She is the only doctor at her practice and as such is able to deliver top notch medical care. I have been taking my son to Dr. Katz since he was a newborn. In fact he came to the hospital to do…read morehis first newborn check up. So where do I begin!! Dr. Katz was actually my husbands pediatrician. I know what you're thinking. Whoa! He's old. Right?! :)) Well I happen to think it's an advantage. He's been around awhile, therefore he's seen a lot of babies/kids therefore he's seen.... well a lot. I like that about him. He's even saved a kids life where the parents thought they were bringing in their child due to the common cold(look it up!). Anyways, my favorite thing about Dr. Katz is that he has always been on my side, on my track and followed my mom instincts. It seems as though he's always praising me, and telling me how perfect and healthy my son is. As a new mom(2 years ago), I was always thinking about what I was doing wrong or what I could do to be better. But he always somehow boosted my confidence at all of Vance's appointments. He's always so positive and compliments my mothering. He has never ever told me; "do this" "don't do this" "you should do this" "never do that" ....I'm sure you get the point. But instead he would say things like; "well that's ok" "that seems right" "I don't see anything that I'm concerned with" "you're doing a great job mom!" With Vance, he is such a picky eater. Very much a texture kid. So I'm always concerned with him getting the right amount of food and nutrition. He DOES NOT eat fruits and veggies!! He's always been above average with his weight so that's not a concern. And Dr. Katz even clued me in on how half his kids are either great eaters or poor eaters. Never in between. So when he told me that I felt much better about our situation. He always seems to say the right thing and makes me feel reassured that I'm doing the best job that I can. I am currently pregnant and I know I will be seeing him in the hospital for my little one and continue to bring Vance into see him. He is such an amazing pediatrician. Unfortunately I will never be going back here. They fumbled my daughter's care BIG TIME. This needs…read moreto be known, so the medical staff here can learn, as well as the parents who put their faith in urgent care places like these; to seriously caution where they go for certain medical issues. My 6yr old girl fell at school and hurt her left arm doing cart wheels. We took her here immediately. They took X rays. Then the PA Denea Heintz came to talk to us. She said that her injury broke her humerus bone. The exact report was written as "supracondylar fracture of the distal humerus." PA proceeded to tell us, they don't cast at this location but they usually don't do casts for this injury anyway. All you need is a sling and to keep it elevated as much as possible for 4 weeks. But no surgery to worry about, no alignment issues. She got us in a sling and then said to call the pediatric ortho to schedule a basic follow up. And we left. Well: for one, even if the above info was correct. How the heck is a 6yr old supposed to keep their arm steady in a sling without even a splint? We started to realize that very quick. We called the ortho when we got home. They scheduled us for 7 days later. The following morning. On the advice of Cali-Kids we had her in the sling and sent her to school. Mom had that intuition that something was NOT RIGHT. You could see it in the poor little girl. Her motion, her pain, the swelling she wouldn't move her arm at all. Called the orthopedic again after drop off at school. They said to bring her in 10:45, they had an opening. (Thank God: for Moms intuition and that place having the cancellation). Picked her up from school. Went to see the ortho (which was the office referred by Cali Kids). Dr. Took a while to come in but he came in and said: "I'm sorry it took a while I was on the phone with CHOC @ Orange because I need to have your daughter admitted to the ER for Emergency Surgery and I had to call the on call surgeon and have them review the X-rays and they agreed it was an emergency." He then said unfortunately it was multiple fractures/breaks as well as miss alignment beyond the threshold and he couldn't just cast it, it requires surgical fix. At this point we were blown away. BLOWN AWAY. Told him what was explained to us by Cali-Kids and he couldn't even believe we were referred to him and not an EMERGENCY room. He couldn't believe all they did was put it in a sling. I've never in my life seen a Dr. throw his chair backwards and put his hands on his head and say: WHAT! WHHHHAAAT ???!!! We then got her up to CHOC in Orange and she was admitted to the hospital and had surgery. Parents out there: Take serious caution as to where you go for certain medical problems. Unfortunately it's hard to believe there can be a huge inconsistency with care between urgent care facilities and specialists etc. If there is ever something you think could be serious: DO NOT take the word of an urgent care facility. Just bypass it and go right to the ER. As a parent you don't know. Unless you're a medical professional yourself. But for those of us that are not. If you go to an urgent care. You expect they are pointing you in the best direction. Had we listened in this case and waited 7 days, the surgeon told us it would have been even worse and ultimately our kid would have suffered even more than she needed to. To the staff at Cali-Kids: I'm well aware it's not a perfect world and urgent cares can make mistakes and are not specialists. But please take this as a learning opportunity. If there was a fault by an incompetent staff member. Take action to get them to learn their mistake. And if there is something a staff member is unsure about, or borderline, recommend to the parent that it would be best for them to get an immediate second opinion at an ER. Don't just confidently tell parents they have no surgery to worry about. When that was 100% medically inaccurate to say, based on the X-Rays they took.

What meant the most was how he took his time on the phone with me. With his suggestions our baby's fever went down that same day. We feel very lucky he accepted us into his family's practice. I'm sad to say that I no longer trust this group with my child's care after discovering the abundance of unnecessary vaccines that were given which were not required in order to attend California public schools. Instead of vaccinating my child with vaccines that were mandated by the California public school system first, the physicians decided to prioritize other vaccines that were not mandated. Unfortunately, now I'm going to have to rush getting my child vaccinated with the required vaccines because the office does not know California Public school policies. Despite me verifying verbally at every visit that this was required for school, I was still misled. Moving forward I will not trust any office to tell me which vaccines are required for California public schools, I will research this myself. Tough lesson that I had to learn. In addition, all of our appointments with Dr. Reda felt very rushed. Any questions that I tried to ask he answered with one word versus having a more thorough explanation for a first time mom. I should have switched earlier, but stuck with him because no one else seemed to have a problem. Once I started asking around, I discovered that all of my friends that had referred me to the practice had left for the very same reasons. Wish this was something that I would've talked about sooner. I'm writing this in hopes that the office improves their vaccination schedules and communication. It would've helped to have a plan out the gates for my child's vaccination schedule versus a fly by the seat of your pants and see what happens. In other words, a "don't ask questions" approach. My primary care doctor, Dr. Serna, is amazing and always takes great care of me. I had an appointment with her today, but the office called to let me know she wasn't in and asked if I wanted to reschedule or see another doctor. Since I've been in significant ear pain, I chose to see Dr. Ashizawa just to get a referral to an ENT. My appointment was at 3:00, but he didn't come in until 3:50. After briefly looking in my ear and doing a quick ear drum test, he said nothing was wrong and that there was nothing more he could do. I asked if he could please send a referral to an ENT since I'm in a lot of pain and pressure, but he shrugged and said there was no point because they wouldn't do anything different. That's simply not true, he barely investigated the issue. I left after two hours with no diagnosis or help and am now debating whether to go to the ER or pay out of pocket to see a specialist. I'd highly recommend avoiding Dr. Ashizawa, he seemed completely dismissive and uninterested in helping his patients.
