My entire month of July was spent here with my community, and I loved every single minute of it.The concerts start at 7:00 p.m., but I was always the first one there since I live the closest. I'd show up with my folding chairs, claim a big spot, spread out blankets, and save plenty of room for everyone. Then I'd wait for my friends to arrive. You know the evening is officially about to begin when they play Downey's official city song! I had no idea Downey even had a song, but it's absolutely adorable and always puts everyone in a great mood.Our final concert was extra special--we had a grand total of 22 people at our little gathering! Every week turned into a giant community potluck with everyone bringing something delicious to share. One weekend my friends even surprised me with a birthday party, complete with a decorated table and cake. It made me feel so loved, and it's a memory I'll treasure forever.There's something so peaceful about sitting on a blanket, listening to live music, chatting with friends, and watching the sun slowly set over the park. It's a reminder that some of the best nights don't have to be expensive--they just need good people and good music.The concession stand offered the basics--hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks. I do wish there were a few more food options, but maybe that's something they can expand on next year. Before the concerts, there were booths from local businesses like Lazy Dog, the Downey Theatre, dental offices, and other community organizations offering fun giveaways, games, and raffle prizes. We never won the raffle tree, but we sure had fun trying every week!One of my favorite parts was running into so many familiar faces. It truly felt like the entire community came together to enjoy summer evenings at the park.The only downside? July is over way too fast! I wish the concert series lasted longer because one month just isn't enough.Thank you to everyone who makes these concerts happen each year. Until next summer...

This is a great park with a bathroom near the playground, swing in and check it out. The gorgeous flora alone is worth the visit.

Came here this Saturday for my grandma's 88th birthday.. They have 4 recreation centers where you can actually reserve. So as long as you call ahead, you can take a spot, and dont have to worry about it getting taken by someone gettting there at the crack of dawn. Park itself was nice. They have a small area, which is the green grassy park, play ground, a water park for kids, basketball courts, a huge baseball diamond, and a rec center. This park is also adjacent to the river, so if you bring bikes, you can always go down the river bed for a leisurely ride. Would definitely come back.. Its a small park, so if you have kids, there easier to watch here. Plus you dont get as much traffic, since you cant really see this park from the main street.

Adventure Park. It has an early-'90s water-park ring to its name, and while parts of it look like they're from the early '90s, it's just a plain old park with athletic fields, a gym, green space, and some sparse picnic tables. And what would a Whittier-area park be without its obligatory random ravine and/or concrete drainage area? In this case, said concrete drainage area is dangerous-looking for kids and runs right through the park at a right angle. It's fenced off, and there are helpful bridges to cross it, but I wonder why they sited it through the park rather than on one end of it. I'm sure some kids have adventures here, because all parks with grass and play equipment can be fun and create childhood memories. But Whittier has spoiled me with its parks, and while this is technically South Whittier so it's outside of Whittier's borders, it's still close enough that it should feel like a Whittier park, and it most certainly does not. Why? Because it's totally flat. And totally rectangular. When my parents were walking twice a day during COVID lockdowns/curfews, I suggested they visit this park to change up their rotation, which comprised only two or three parks at the time. They said it was OK, and I later came with my mom and realized why it wasn't their favorite. The concrete path isn't totally straight, so there's some variety, but there isn't much shade along the path. There's lots of parking, and it serves its purpose as a neighborhood park, but it could be so much better.

We had a family picnic here a few weeks later. The park is clean and well kept. There are sinks near the picnic tables under a shelter. There are also two bbq grills if you plan on grilling for your event. You can see your kids in the playground if you're in the picnic area. They have a baseball field which can be used during off season. The bathrooms are clean as well. The City of Norwalk has lots of activities for kids planned throughout the year at the parks. One of these events include their free lunch program during the Summer. The weekend we went there happened to be crafts and snacks for the kids. We were excited to see some of the youth workers my kids knew from Kid's Camp while we were there. Thank you Amanda and coworker for playing basketball with the kids and helping them with their projects. All the kids in our group made a craft, colored in coloring books, and had snacks. It was a great day all around. We'll definitely come here again if they have activities on the weekend.
