If I had one word for Dr. Ziering and his nurse practitioner it would be gaslighting. They have an agenda to push certain medications whether or not it's the right medications for you. They must be getting a kick back from the pharmaceutical company. They kept pushing pamphlets for this one particular drug which is ongoing shots and absolutely not what I want to do. I came to Dr. Ziering for allergy issues I was having and based on his rude behavior from the first appointment I should have known better. I informed him I had a long history of allergies and sinus issues - when I told him I was trying BEG spray he looked it up online and immediately told me it could cause kidney damage. Which is actually not true, there's only negative reactions in very high doses with one of the medications in the nasal spray. When I came in for my allergy tests his nurse practitioner completely disregarded my allergy tests and gave me NO solutions for how to treat them. She actually prescribed a pneumonia shot which again felt like she was pushing as if they get paid for prescribing it. Needless to say I will not be going back to Dr. Ziering. read more

Trust those who Yelp regularly... The staff here is rock solid, including Dr. Zeiring. I've never had to wait long, everyone is courteous, and Dr. Z keeps digging until he finds a result he likes. I've visited 1/2 dozen times over the course of 2 years (ish). Dr. Z identified an asthma concern and eliminated others that were wrongfully diagnosed by my [former] PCP. horrible md has a condescending demeanor kept repeating are you sick or do you have asthma and told me we are going in circles. i came to him for adult onset asthma and been struggling for 5 weeks. he didn't care, had no compassion and basically almost argued with me stating again we keep going in circles are you sick or do you have asthma? i am sorry no one with asthma wants to be spoken to like that. of course when you are having difficulty breathing you are sick!!!!!!!! he wouldn't prescribe steroids to help but gave me another inhaler that isn't working. i had to go ask another md to assist me with steroids. again horrible bed side manner wouldn't waste my time seeing him all he wants is returning weekly alergy injection patients. go somewhere else i am!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Dr Ziering is the best. He does what he says and says what he does. It is amazing to be able to count on your health care provider. He is very personable, knowledgeable and just a down right nice person. His staff is wonderful, they are friendly, organized and prompt. This is a wonderful office to be seen in. read more

I went to Dr Robert Ziering because I was chasing some health issues down, among them, some obvious intolerance and allergy symptoms. I wanted to know what I was allergic to in my environment so I requested testing for food allergies and environmental allergies. When I told Dr Ziering the name of the connective tissue disorder I have, he insisted I was spelling it wrong (I wasn't) - then went and LOOKED IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA, came back into the room, TOLD me he looked it up on wikipedia and questioned my diagnosis, based upon what he read - ON WIKIPEDIA. I told him I have a heart murmur. He listened to my heart. Backed up, looked at me, said "You have a heart murmur?" I confirmed. He listened again. Then rolled his eyes, shook his head and said "Good thing I'm not a cardiologist!" He prescribed a full panel of blood work (none of which I requested or needed) - including a nearly eradicated (in the US) disease I was immunized against TWICE in childhood and have no symptoms of and didn't ask to be tested for. When they do the allergy panel, they start with putting a drop of histamine on the skin to get a baseline reaction. They are SUPPOSED to come back in and measure the reaction. The nurse neglected to do that. Then when she gave me the allergy panel, she said she couldn't see any allergic reaction, when and got someone else who identified several allergic reactions. I was told they could only do one of the two panels of tests that day and I'd need to come back for the other. I was charged ~$340 in the office - based upon them having called my insurance company and theoretically knowing their own rates. And then a month later, got a bill for another ~$100 - because apparently they DIDN'T know their own rates or get accurate information when they called my insurance company? Oh, also, they aren't set up to take cash / give change. Dr Ziering has lost perspective. His tone was dismissive, he was not consultative at all and he didn't focus at all on what I'd asked for. I would not hire him for medical advice again. His staff had no idea what they were doing. Edited : While in Dr Ziering's office, I told them I have exercise induced asthma. They had me do a breathing test (sitting down, at rest, which wouldn't show exercise induced asthma) and then Dr Ziering told me I didn't have asthma. This week, I had the diagnosis reconfirmed through another doctor after an especially gnarly attack. Dr Ziering is supposed to be an allergy and asthma expert! How irresponsible of him. read more

Doctor is nice, however I always end up waiting at least 15 minutes to get called back for an allergy shot even when there is nobody else there. Then (the wait time is supposedly 20 mins after) I end up waiting 35. The whole thing can end up being an hour long extravaganza. Im falling behind on my allergy shots because of this. Put your patients first!! read more

Dr. Ziering is an amazing,competent doctor and an amazing person that takes the time to listen and then outlines your action plan perfectly in a manner that you can understand. He never makes you feel rushed. I feel fortunate to have found such a kind and caring physician in these days that has helped me resolve issues that no other doctor has been able to over the last two years of searching for an answer. What a difference Dr. Ziering made in my hopes to find an answer! Big shout out to an amazing office and nurse staff that make you feel important and not just another person. read more

Would give 3.75 stars if possible Update: Dr Ziering has been great every time we have an appointment. Takes a decent amount of time with us and office is very accommodating w payments and billing. Original post: We only go here because there is a serious shortage of Allergist and immunotherapy allergy shot clinics in the north county San Diego area. After 1hr 20 min I left today unable to get both the service I came(allergy shot) as well as the Dr.'s attention (we didn't have an appointment) needed to resolve it. My boyfriend was referred to see Dr. Ziering in hopes of figuring out his multiple allergy issues and what could possibly be causing these reactions. First office visit he explained he was diagnosed with celiac disease as a young child and also a few other food allergies along with the normal pollen dander types. Having gave his thorough medical history at the first visit, they referred him to get his blood drawn at Quest and come back with the results at his next appointment. So today after his appointment, he came out to the car very upset saying he saw the nurse practitioner and she didn't even listen to him or read his blood panel results. She just kept saying you need to stop using a fan in your bedroom and dust the house twice a day?? Are you kidding me?? He then tried to explain about the celiac situation and she ignored his questions and said you need to keep your windows closed and not use a fan??? Okay so I feel like this was a gigantic waste of time, we thought this was an allergist and immunology practice? And last I looked celiac disease is caused in part by a gluten allergy? They did no food allergy tests and offered no real solutions to any of his issues, just said go back to your primary care doctor, so what was the point of anything really? I guess Celiac Disease is not something they deal with or have ever heard of??? Sure closing our windows and not using a fan at night is the new cure all, it's just ridiculous. Not okay. read more

I have ever been more disappointed. My son had reoccurring fever with growth retardation. When the work ups were done he basically called me an over worried mom. Three months later a brain tumor on his pituitary gland was discovered along with immune deficiency disease. Not the quality healthcare I had hoped for, and you failed my son as his doctor! read more

Dr. Ziering and his staff are amazing. I've been coming to see him for a few years now, and my allergy situation has improved dramatically. I used to suffer from chronic sinus infections (every few months or so); at this point, it's been at least two years since I've had one. The staff here are incredible - they are friendly, and get to know each and every one of their patients by name. It's easy to get an appointment, and the wait times are very reasonable (5 minutes usually, 10 minutes at the most). Just to reinforce how great this place is - I had the option of either getting my shots at my primary care physician (which is 5 minutes away from my house), or coming here which is closer to 20 minutes from my house (one way)... I opted for Dr. Ziering's office. read more

Dr. Ziering is a great allergist. I have been bothered by allergies since my childhood. He treated my with allergy shots (which did take about 2 years) but it has drastically reduced my allergies. I used to get cold and eventually sinus infections several times per year which meant a lot of time off work. I finished allergy shots 3 years ago and have not had a sinus infection yet. I used to take several different medications, now I take one nasal spray per day and I am good, whether it is spring, summer or fall. Highly recommend. read more

Have been going to Dr. Ziering for about 9 or 10 years. He is an expert in his field and has been. very responsive, over the years, to all of my allergy and immune issues. I I have received regular allergy shots over the course of several years that have radically improved the quality of my life. Dr Ziering was also very intuitive in diagnosing my migraines, early on, which led me to seek out and get effective treatment (Botox protocol) from a headache specialist. He also encouraged me, along the way, to see an ENT as I'm a very complicated individual, medically speaking. He has gotten me through bouts of severe food/ allergy reactions and helped diagnose these, too. When I have had another immune issue, he referred me to a superb specialist who he has worked in conjunction with to help me. The office staff is extremely pleasant and has been very helpful in films of emergency. I couldn't be more grateful or recommend this doctor more highly! read more

I have spent my entire life battling environmental allergies. When I was a child I received the allergy test on my back and was off the charts across the board. It was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Nothing seems to help my allergies that doesn't have a more bothersome side effect, so I have learned to deal with them and suggest . I visited this office (same office I visited many years ago) in order to determine what, if any, food allergies I may have. The doctor was insistent I needed the $900 test on my back again. I reminded him I was in for food allergies and he handed me a sheet of the items tested. Wheat and dairy were on there so I agreed. Afterward, he said I would need to go get blood tested for one food allergy at a time and cut that food from my diet. Every visit I would report how I "feel". I asked about the food items tested on my back and he said "that is how you react with those items in your environment, not ingesting them. Gee, thanks for nothing, or actually, thanks for putting me through that horrible test again to remind me I am allergic to everything under the sun. I can cut things from my diet and see how I "feel". After I politely appealed the charges as not being for tests I requested, I was sent a letter stating they would refuse service to me and my family for non payment. HA! We were never coming back anyway. read more

Dr. Ziering does allergy and food intolerance testing the right way- with a scratch test on your back. The blood tests simply are not as effective. Scripps did not find that wheat was a problem for me. Dr. Ziering found this and other foods as well that I should avoid. (For the visit, I find that it is helpful to come prepared with written questions.) I recommended Dr. Ziering to a friend who had the allergy testing- scratch test on his back and then eliminated foods from his diet and it has significantly helped him with stomach issues.
