This is hands down the best Italian in Tappahannock. Very authentic and tasty. You can tell everything is homemade. Roberto is a wonderful guy, not many owners would be out serving tables but he was and he was fantastic. You can tell he truly cares about his business and his patrons. The entire staff was very sweet and personable. I got the Italian wedding soup and Tuscany pasta and it was AMAZING! The scallops in the Tuscany were cooked to perfection. The Italian soup was absolutely amazing too, and my nonna made me picky. Always a classic when it's done right! I never write reviews, however I felt compelled to warn our community. When you arrive you'll notice a cafeteria style setting which is very unappealing. The staff was nice however the food is absolutely horrible. Our entrees were most likely frozen and served with a canned sauce. Can't come to Tappahannock and not stop at Romas and get the famous cheesesteak sub. We also tried the Parmesan chicken which wasn't a hit. It was not flavorful. I'm new to the area. I think the first week here I ordered a pizza from Roma. It was good. A few weeks later we ordered another. I'm not sure how p**s*d the person was who cut my pizza but when we got home we discovered the pizza cut into ten slices in every conceivable shape. Some were square without crust, some had a crust and were 3 inches long. A few others were very narrow but the length of the whole pizza. I mean there was something for everyone. That should have been my last meal here but despite that ridiculous disaster the pizza still tasted ok. But this pizza was cut by someone who wanted everyone to know they were having a bad day. So that's my advice - you stick with pizza or Stromboli. They can handle that much. Then last night we got Italian food. One Stromboli and some Italian meals. When I arrived I was told my food wasn't ready and I had to wait. It comes out of the kitchen and I go home. I'm thinking at least it's piping hot. It wasn't. I don't really understand that. Just came out. Wasn't hot. Also it was awful. When I ordered I was asked what sides I wanted. It's funny they bothered to ask because I didn't receive any sides whatsoever. Like some genius put these entrees into a foil pan with no pasta, no vegetable. They looked anemic. Cold and anemic. The fried items were greasy. I ordered an antipasto. Didn't get it. So my advice is I guess you should sit there at their little bar and open up every. Single. Container. Of. Food. To make sure you got what you paid for. I called. I complained. They told me they would have the manager call me if I left my name and number. Won't be necessary. I will not be back. There's no need --- There's two other places in town that make excellent pizza. Their menu is enormous. I ordered eggplant rollatini which is called rollatini because it's sliced long ways & ROLLED. Not here. No they just pretty much put together a stack of fried eggplant and call it rollatini. Asked for cocktail sauce. Nope! None for you. To top it all off whatever my husband ate made him ill. So he's calling out sick today. The magic continues! I do not know why you are in the restaurant business if you just don't care about the product you provide. Time to retire. read more

We wanted to go somewhere different a few months back and went to Roma. I grew up in Warsaw and this restaurant was the childhood go-to for pizza parties. But I hadn't considered it for dine-in or for fresh seafood before. However, the food was excellent and the service was efficient and friendly. We've returned several times since. One time we were there, they were understaffed and it was Wednesday, which is when they run a pizza special, so the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders. That didn't bother us. They have the best pizza in a 70 mile radius, so it's likely to be busy on pizza night! We go there regularly now and each time, the service is excellent and the food is some of the best Italian American food I've had. They also have fresh local oysters and often have fresh fish. Last Saturday I had the fresh salmon and it was superb. The salad bar features a variety of items and is fresh and maintained. During one early visit, I heard a man compliment the owner on the salad bar. This restaurant is consistently good as far as the food as well as the service. Wow, just wow! You walk in and meet the most adorable hostess in the world! She was friendly and had the best smile and best hugs ever! We started with the salad bar and bruschetta, great way to start a meal. There was plenty to choose from at the salad bar and the bruschetta just sent my taste buds to heaven. For dinner we had the Italian Delight, a perfect mix of pastas and I'm sure it will taste just as delicious for leftovers. We also had shrimp scampi and steak. I continue to try this restaurant because so many of my friends love it, but it always fails. I ordered a medium rare steak once, it came out well done and it was not even chewable and I was in a hurry so I canceled the order and what they do is they tell you that the salad bar comes with your meal, and so when you cancel your order they still charge you for the salad bar to make sure they got money. This is something that came free with the meal and just because they messed it up they found a way to get money out of me. I then went back again and ordered pasta, it had absolutely no flavor! This is an "authentic" Italian restaurant I don't get it. The last time I tried it I ordered a seafood pizza which is very very pricey and once again no flavor. They were chunks of seafood and you couldn't decipher which was which because they all tasted the same. Just not good. read more

OMG! What a culinary delight! This Roma knocks the other two out of the ballgame! Wonderful food, caring and kind servers. We have been going there for years. My husband since the 70's. It used to be good. The pizza was so cheesy and flavorful. It has really gone down hill over the last couple of years. Hardly any sauce and very little cheese and we order with extra cheese. The last two times were awful. It's sad when restaurants cut back on the quality of their ingredients to save a buck. I work for a local hospital. We celebrated technologist week. My token of appreciation to the wonderful workers was a catered lunch. We asked for a catered lunch for 25 people. Instead we got individual lunches for about 4-5 people. There was a huge miscommunication and lunch was ruined. When we called about what happened we were told that they would call back. No call, no attempt to remedy the situation. I tried to leave feedback on the website, however, when I tried to submit it, it was rejected because my email was "invalid" (it is not). Tried to call again to leave a message...busy signal. It's as if they really don't want feedback and really don't care about their customers. Very disappointing. read more

Tappahannock does not seem to be a food town, there are far more chain fast food places than actual restaurants. This place seems to be one of the better places to eat. We had a large-ish party, 12 people. They seated us right away, without flinching and the server dealt with our orders like a pro. I was in town overnight for work and just wanted delivery after a long drive. Upon calling I got a short no and then dead silence when I asked. Ordered pizza bread and a Greek salad. Restaurant looked clean when I picked it up,but staff seemed overtaxed even with a half empty building. Very underwhelmed with the flavor. Pizza bread was not seasoned and tasted frozen. It was also soft and mushy.The salad had too much dressing which was mostly vinegar. Very little depth of Greek flavor and they used black olives instead of kalamata. Basic Italian fare, but it wasn't bad. The salad bar is pretty decent, and the bread they serve is very good. My wife had angel hair pasta with tomato sauce, which was good. I had the Italian pannini, which was okay. Would have been better with a little more between the two slices of bread. Nice and clean inside, and our server (Joe?) was very good. Awful...I had the prime rib and it did not taste anything like Prime Rib. It was soaked in Worcestershire sauce or vinegar and ice cold.
