If you are looking for a cute old school family diner, you've come to the right place! It has an old school feel to it which makes it a super fun experience. The food came very quickly and the service was wonderful. Angelo's has a large variety of American, Italian, and Greek food. We got spaghetti ($9), a gyro ($12.75), and an iced cream brownie sundae ($6). The spaghetti was perfectly portioned for one person and came with meat sauce and garlic bread. Delicious! The gyro was also a nice size and served with chips. The tzatziki sauce and feta blended so well with the crisp lettuce and hot gyro meat. The melty brownie also paired well with the iced cream. The space is tight Service: waitress clearly needed help with large party, I never got my fries and after she put our order in she didnt know who ordered what. I loved coming here when we had a place in colonial beach, since Montross is not far away! I've come here many times and always have enjoyed a delicious meal. I love the sausage and black olive pizza and the service is fast! It's a typical Italian pizza place with wooden booths Italian decor that also serves seafood, and oysters from the raw bar. One of the best gyros in town. The Italian sub, my husband loved but I did not, usually Italians have salami and Italian meats. This one was like a bologna. Or liverwurst. Not sure but odd. We stopped here tonight in order to take advantage of the Tuesday specials. We ordered the special 2 topping special with mushrooms and tomatoes. It came out hot, loaded and fairly fast. Medium thin crust with nice crunchy curb. The tomatoes were nice and ripe. There were also plenty of mushrooms. Washed it down with a cold Miller Lite.we also picked up two slices of pie to go. The service from Gracelyn was perfect. The restaurant is a find a seat yourself buy when we did we were promptly waited on. My first time was for Pizza which had fresh green peppers and onions and the iced tea was freshly brewed and it was great.. . The atmosphere was very friendly and staff was having a good time. Enjoyed the cannoli, it was one of the best iI have had. That should be 5 stars. However came back a few days later for a weekend lunch ; it was seemingly a different restaurant. The server was not attentive like the one we had the previous time.. My crab cake was slightly black after being grilled or fried., taste was bland and rather disappointing, I give it a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5. since its alot of work to pick a crab) T.he roast beef sandwich was given a 1 on a scale of 1 to 5. for the server said it was good before he ordered it However his meat was bland and substandard I . The server never asked us if we liked our food and never refilled our drinks. The cannoli was the only thing that saved this lunch. This is a nice local family owned bar/restaurant and one of the few spots to get a bite to eat in the area 7 days a week. The restaurant is casual and has a private parking lot on the side as well as across the street. There is two side to the restaurant. There is the family dining side and the bar side. Both sides have dining room seating. The bar side has a full bar with a television. It has some neat eclectic decorations. The restaurant has an extensive menu that includes steaks, burgers, salads, seafood, wraps, desserts and Italian. I heard that most everything is good. I opted to go with the oyster po boy with fries. It was delicious and fresh. I throughly enjoyed both. On another note, I have also eaten some of there catered food at a local event and it was delicious too. The staff there is very friendly, attentive and welcoming. Even though I was not a local, I felt right at home. This is an awesome down-home bar/restaurant and worth a visit. I really enjoyed my meal here and hope to make it back here soon. read more

Returned to Angelo's again (and again, after a long absence). This time I was in the mood and craving a steak; considering my options in Dahlgren, this is as close as I could get that wasn't a chain. Anyway. I find it very hard to complain, because the NY Strip with scallops was really tasty. But: The salad was sad. Just sad. They serve coleslaw in little plastic cups? I mean, come on, you're a full-service restaurant and you bring out a little scoop of coleslaw in plastic? The baked potato was only luke-warm (at best) and it only came with butter. I would have been happy to let the waitress know and see if she would nuke it for a minute to heat it up, but once she delivered my order she was non-existent. And that's really where the biggest issue for me is: I walk in, obviously not from Montross, and the waitress acted like I was imposing on her to get a table and order some food (by the way, the table had dried up spaghetti sauce (well, it was red anyway) on it, which is pretty gross)...but boy, if the waitresses knew you (in other words your a local?) oh yeah, lets stop and chat and hang out, blah blah blah. I couldn't even get a refill on my tea, or get asked if I want dessert...just "here's your check" And oh by the way, if you pay by card? Expect to pay 3% more for your bill. Like I said in the beginning, the main course was good; and their pizzas are awesome (I'll have to get one soon to reverify, it's been a while)....but crappy service with attitude? We were camping nearby and decided to not cook one night and ordered takeout from Angelo's. There are VERY limited options in the area so we landed on Angelo's as it seemed to have a good variety of items. I called and placed our order (can't remember the last time I've actually done that!) and was told 30 minutes. I arrived around then and the staff was clearly overwhelmed with the full dining room. It took several minutes to get acknowledged but once I was recognized, things moved quickly. I paid and left. And promptly returned to the counter after checking my bag as an entire entree was missing. I went back in, they put it together and I was off. We ordered: hot wings, fried oysters, a chicken gyro, and a kids chicken fingers and fries. The kids meal was basically inedible- the chicken was very hard and crunchy with little meat and the fries tasted like fryer grease. The other items were ok-not terrible, not really memorable. The next time we camp in the area, I think we will try the other restaurant down the street for takeout and hope for a better experience. read more

We are out of towners and had a great meal at Angelo's. Our server was really nice, friendly and attentive, even though the place was packed. All the food we ordered was great. The baked spaghetti was flavorful, and very cheesy. I wonder where they get the cheese from, it compliments the dish well. Kids loved their pizza and theyre always picky about food. I used to eat here quite frequently, and the food was decent, however the staff and service were the low point. However, tonight, I really wanted one of their cheesesteaks and some bacon/cheese fries, and I went to go order, only to find out they apparently close at 8pm on a Saturday night now? Folks, it's not 1932 anymore in the "Neck." Folks stay up later nowadays, and they want to eat later. So you've just finished putting in 40k steps walking the many trails of Westmoreland State Park and you're getting hangry. You drive from the park and type in restaurants on google maps and wait for an appealing one to catch your eye. Let me save you some time and recommend you carry your hind parts over to Angelo's Restaurant & Raw Bar. The outside with it's fresh, clean design will catch your attention as you're see on the bend of the road. You'll see a sign to seat yourself when you enter then you'll be quickly approached by one of their gracious servers. The restaurant is clean and you can see the into the kitchen from the dining area. There is also a full bar side with table seating separated by a wall from the main area. The menu is very extensive. I'm sure Gordan Ramsay would call for Angelo's menu to be condensed. There's a lot to take in on each page and I was getting a bit stressed trying to comb through it to make sure I didn't miss on anything I would've loved to choose. I ordered a small Italian sausage and mushroom pizza and meatball sub. My cousin ordered the fried oyster sandwich with fries. The pizza was actually an amazing pizza. There was tons of cheese and we all know there is no such thing as too much cheese. OMG, the crust!! This is an award winning crust! Heck, an award winning pizza! The crust is like no other. It's light and airy. Not only will you devour the section of the pizza with toppings, but you will find yourself impatiently waiting to devour that light crust! The meatball sub comes with a boat load of cheese and it's delicious. I'm not a fan of oysters, but my cousin mentioned that he loved the taste and flavor of the fried oyster sandwich. Typically eat at a place more than once before leaving a review but I won't be returning so... Only picked this place because the BBQ place was closed for the season and the coffee shop was closed for the day (small town limited options). The food is definitely not home made (maybe the pizza is but didn't order that). The meatballs are bad, have had better at Costco. Super spongy. "Garlic bread" had no garlic or butter for that matter. Salad had raw white onions (pet peeve, only red is acceptable) and browning edges. Peanut butter pie was out of the grocery store frozen section. Vanilla ice cream was freezer burned. Not worth another visit in my opinion, I can buy this stuff at Food Lion and microwave it myself if I wanted to. read more

I really don't like writing negative reviews but my experience at Angelos was disappointing after reading mostly positive reviews on Yelp. Nothing I ordered was homemade. The meatballs were spongy and processed. They remind me of the meatballs we would eat in my high school cafeteria. Seriously. The chicken parm and chicken fingers were the same type of chicken! The parm was covered in sauce and cheese and the chicken strips were plain and cut into strips. Dessert pie was straight out of the box. Angelos has many steak and seafood items on the menu that are considered "specialty" items. I just don't feel confident that Angelos would be able to execute a high priced and quality "specialty" item. The place was steady and the phones were ringing with pickup orders. Most of these orders appeared to be pick up for pizza. It's possible that Angelos makes good pizza but I wouldn't roll the dice with the rest of the menu. What a great little gem in Montross! We were visiting nearby for a friends weekend and thought we would stop in on our last night. The menu is varied but the primary offerings are Italian food and seafood. Maybe it's because I'm coming from Philly but the prices were very reasonable. We tried some local Virginia wine, a cab franc that our waitress recommended. It was a solid table red, dry with a little sweetness on the finish. I got the veal parmesan which came with a salad (that I upgraded to Greek) and bread. The veal was lovely but I found the sauce a little sweet for my taste. I loved the huge Greek salad. My friend got the blackened scallops- there were a ton (like 10!) and cooked perfectly. One of my companions got the meatball pizza. It was pretty big for a personal size and he said it tasted better than expected. We had a lovely waitress who was attentive to all of our needs especially since we were a bigger group. The decor is classic hometown pizza shop which we found charming. Overall this is a great choice if you are staying near Montross- big portions for an affordable price and relaxed dining. read more

We were super excited to try the pizza here on our spring break visit to Montross. We ordered on a TU which they had a great price for two topping 12" pizzas. Pizza wasn't all that great, we are pizza lovers and often will spend $30 a pizza at our hometown pizza place bc the pizza is worth it. This pizza was barely worth the 10.45 a pizza, it reminded us of Pizza Hut, nothing special about it. The meatballs tasted frozen (pretty sure they were store bought not homemade which I expected more from an Italian restaurant) the "hot peppers" are jalapeños which we did not expect that's why not just call them jalapeños on the menu not hot peppers, bacon were huge fatty pieces, not what you expect on pizza- gross to be honest. The pizza and lasagna were amazing! Unfortunately the mahi mahi wasn't good at all. My whole meal was cold, getting it warmed up was a mistake because the fish was now dry, instead of too raw. Looks like this is the last time we're coming here. Since our last visit they started forcing an 18% tip. This is bullshit! Forcing a tip allowed the servers to be lazy and not care about their guests. This explains why the service sucked this time, because she knew she was getting a fat tip no matter what.
