The low rating this place has is unfair! It's very much comparable to the other location in Woodside. Lots of the same great products and I was happy to find this location as it is somewhat closer to me. In particular, the Mary's Organic Chicken is a great deal at $4.49/lb. It makes the perfect base for a roast chicken or a chicken soup. I will be coming here regularly from now on to buy the chicken and whatever else catches my fancy! read more

This place was a savior after a long hike on a very hot day. I picked up a pre made turkey and cheese sandwich, which was delicious, and loaded with turkey (I hate when some places skimp out!). Sandwich was big, tasty, and under $10. Made me very happy! This place has everything you would need in a market, with a more extensive deli section (which I always appreciate). A unique yet classic grocery store. It has a delicious deli with plenty of meal options. You may also purchase meals for the holidays or other special occasions. They also have s smoothie and coffee bar, I have only gotten drip coffee from there so I can't say much. But seems they have some good options. You will find a wide array of sundries/ non perishables including some speciality iems that are harder to find at say , Safeway. Their product section isn't very big but it has the essentials of most items you need. Produce seems a bit pricey in general. They have a large display of fine wines and alcohol. read more

I usually love Robert's woodside, however I was near the Portola valley area so went to that one. I was super disappointed and will not be going there again. I had two items that were surprisingly terrible. I had bought some dips, a turkey sandwich and couple other things. Nevertheless, the turkey sandwich was so dry, yet the bread was mush and gummy. Plus it's an $11.00 sandwich. If you're going to charge that much it should taste good and I shouldn't have to salvage it at home. The spinach dip is usually like homemade, but this day someone forgot the soup mix, sour cream and green onions. It was so bland and not creamy. I also had to go get the mix and sour cream at another store to salvage that. Needless to say, won't go there again. read more

The unresponsive store management would do well to require smoking in a designated area away from the store entrance to prevent traveling ash and odors from spoiling the goods inside. Besides being a confirmed health hazard, the obnoxious odors make it impossible to enjoy the purchased food--smoking belongs at a bar, not a place of business that ostensibly cares about quality food. Cigarettes contain flavor additives and heavy metals that damage human health at any age, but children and the elderly are most vulnerable--maybe some of the people ignoring this review were one of those children, since we now know nicotine damages developing brains. Having groceries delivered has improved the flavor of my food and quality of life, but everyone deserves fresh air and chemical-free food, especially in a neighborhood that's otherwise as nice as this one. A shame management won't listen. read more

I love this place! It's a wonder market and they have delicious sandwiches. The turkey bacon club with avocado was delicious. The bacon is warm which is a really nice touch. Their rosemary chicken sandwich and Chinese chicken salad are great options as well. They also have specialty sodas. read more

It's been almost two years since I've written a review of Robert's in Portola Valley. One would think that even the top gourmet deli-market would slip a little, especially with a pandemic on, but Robert's Portola Valley hasn't slipped one bit and the service continues to be warm and accommodating. The difference between Robert's Portola Valley and other gourmet deli-markets? First and foremost, Chef Luis. Every soup he creates from scratch (including a delicious Split Pea and Smoked Ham and a Lobster Bisque with Sherry that is dreamy) and every dish he creates (from chicken breast parmesan to to the best spareribs in the Bay Area and even Beef Wellington during the holidays) is outstanding (I already mentioned his Thanksgiving cuisine in my previous review). The Sweet Ham they bake up on the second floor and slice for sandwiches is the best ham we've ever tasted and it's lean and reasonably priced. Robert's Portola Valley has been very accommodating during this viral outbreak. To Manager Mike, Tom, Sarah and Julie along with Chef Luis, we want to thank them and their staff for keeping us happy! Our only requests? That they bring back the Chef's scrumptious meatloaf, Turkey Curry Salad and the frozen Blueberry Lemon Marscapone Cake! read more

I have been going into Roberts in Portola Valley for years. Unfortunately, there are very few workers, to ask questions..There is hardly anyone at the deli..I see so many come and go..Why is that?? We usually spend a few hundred dollars, at least once a week. You can tell, the workers don't enjoy their job. That makes all the difference in the world. I did notice one young man, that seemed nice and curteous. I think his name was Matthew. We may frequent Bianchini's Market, from now on. If i am going to spend the money, i might at least have a warm welcome and great quality of food. Too bad :( read more

Prelude: here I'm wondering how this local grocery store escaped my reviewing, even though, after coming to Roberts for years, I thought surely that I did. Nope - until now. Well, it's 4th of July and I feel patriotic and proud American to give a shoutout to everything local! This is an upscale gourmet grocery with country feel to it, very appropriately so, for it is located in Portola Valley amid country roads, hiking trails and biking routs. This is a specialty store that's way above your typical grocery chains, although it has a sister location in Woodside, each one with its own character. Roberts reminds me how lucky we are to live in the area with a multitude of great grocery options and freshest produce available. Together with Bianchini's Markets, Roberts supports the idea of local and customer oriented "how can we help you" types of stores in Portola Valley. Whether you come for the deli counter after a hike or a bike ride, or shop here for those hard to find products, or visiting from afar and browsing, or just realized that urgent need for a unique item, I'm sure that Roberts Markets are able to meet your needs and perhaps get you pleasantly surprised. read more

Only the name remains the same. They really can't make quality coffee drinks at the Portola Valley location of Roberts Market and they are lacking in terms of friendly staff. The lady making my sandwich was rude and the sandwich I ordered was soggy. I do give them props for replacing the total crap market that used to exist in this location. Also the salad bar is way better here then Biachini's market. However, this Roberts Market loses out to the Woodside version of the market. read more

Sooo nice to have this great grocer at this location! Convenient and stocked well, they can save a trip down the hill to the larger stores. A wonderful variety of quality meats and produce, as well as the gourmet items and wine selection they are known for. We like to stop here on the weekends for snacks or drinks or just to people watch when we're out on a long cycling ride. There are clean tables with umbrellas on the sunny side, and more tables on the shady side of the market. The sunny side also has a water spigot to refill the water bottles or rinse off a bit with. It's definitely different than the Woodside location, but PV has got it's own cool vibe, no? read more

To whom it may concern, I have been shopping at Roberts Market for about a year already. I found out about Roberts Market through a friend who took me for lunch. I had a Rosemary Chicken Breast sandwich on Dutch crunch. The sandwich was delicious, I highly recommend it! It was there that I notice their meats department. So while I was waiting I went over to take a closer look at their great selection of fine steak cuts & seafood options. I was window shopping at my next steak dinner where the young gentleman, Mr. Amaya, came over to ask if I needed assistant. He greeted me with such kindness & manners. He went on to explain to me where they buy their meats & how it's all cut. I was fascinated! Here I have this young gentleman with great knowledge about butchering & here I am enjoying all the knowledge this young man has to offer. I came back two weeks later looking for that great steak cut & the young gentleman that convinced me to come back for a steak or two. Ever since then I have been coming to Roberts Market for my steaks & seafood. It's always nice coming in, seeing friendly faces & smiles. Mr. Amaya always knows best when it comes to what meats to eat for each occasion. Not once has he ever disappointed my self or most importantly my guest with each great selection he makes. As long as Mr. Amaya is working that knife behind there, I'm going to keep coming back for my steaks! Roberts is a great local grocery business that I love to support. I should probably mention that I support it with my employer's funds, since I do the office kitchen shopping here once a week. You have to love the large variety of unique food items here, this isn't your average corporate brand filled Safeway. This allows for some venturing and meddling with smaller company's products and it's generally a positive experience. I love their sandwiches here. In particular the Hummus Veggie sando, which is slathered with delicious chickpea puree, staked high with sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, carrots and sprouts, and is served between soft 9-grain bread. The prosciutto baguette is another favorite of mine. The service is fun and friendly, I'm always greeted by several employees during my shopping sprees and the cashiers are fast and efficient. Although I'm extremely happy with the deli, the salad bar, the extensive fresh selection of veggies and fruits and not to forget the 4 daily soup specials that Roberts Market provides, the coffee service needs to improve by quite a bit. My chai lattes that I've attempted to get here a couple of times are sub par and my colleagues have complained about the coffee drinks here as well. There seems to always be someone else behind the coffee bar, it almost seems like whichever employee is currently not busy will take the drink orders. Maybe it would be a good idea to train 2-3 people on how to make delicious coffee drinks and assign them to that area. Try to avoid going here between 12-1 for the extreme lunch rush, especially if you just want to get a sandwich and get out within 5 minutes, 'cause that won't happen. read more

I like this new branch of Roberts. It is well laid out and has all the wonderful offerings that the Woodside store offers. Yes, it is a bit more expensive than the typical Safeway type store, but here you get the convenience of a local store and all the gourmet goodies you should be willing to pay a bit extra for. I love the soups here. I always forget about them at the Woodside store because of their location, but the tomato bisque rocks. read more

This is a very welcoming and pleasant grocery store. I wouldn't recommend doing your weekly shopping here as it is very expensive, and does not sell a large amount of food. it is the perfect place to meet up with friends, walk down from school, etc. All the workers are very kind and interacting. The only reason Im not giving it a five star is because of how stupidly expensive it is. It costs $13 for 2 vanilla beans, and $6 for about 5 chicken nuggets!! I work just down the street from Roberts and shop here quite frequently. I love their fruits and veggies. They try to get things as locally as they can, and I appreciate that. They have a vast organic selection. A huge plus in my mind. It's not a big place, and doing all of your stocks up here just isn't possible. But it's great to stop by for the best niman ranch steaks and fish. the meat and fish counter guys are amazing. They even have (thanks, will) gluten free marinades for their chicken and sea bass now. The downside? The coffee sucks. I'd give anything for mr Roberts to purchase a true espresso machine and barista. He'd make an absolutely fortune! Blanca and Lu, at the checkouts are so sweet. They always remember my name and ask about my family. Did I mention they have yummy frozen yogurt? Yum. read more

5 stars for great customer service! It's everything! Their staff is always so friendly, helpful and smiling! It's a pleasure to shop in Roberts PV- you feel like a welcome neighbor instead of like an intrusion (ahem, that's for you woodside location). I love going to this Roberts because the deli staff is super friendly, the butchers are always smiling, and the ladies in the check-out lanes make you feel at home. We're lucky to have both Robert's and Bianchinis in Portola Valley. Both are good in their own right, but keep in mind that these are specialty markets and not Safeways (for better or worse). In general Roberts will have most of whatever you need and usually the best quality items. They have a lot of premise meals made daily that are worth checking out. We visited Robert's Market in Portola Valley today for the very first time to sample their deli food and pick up our (early) special order of two quarts of their homemade dressing (We ordered our pre-cooked bird from another market, unfortunately! Robert's Diestel turkey--same weight and pre-cooked--would have saved us $30). We normally buy our deli food from a gourmet market chain that is closer to us but today's visit blew away the competition! Unlike our other specialty market, Robert's chef is on-premises. His deli manager, Carina, was gracious with her time and information on the various sumptuous dishes they offer. We were operating "blindly" as we had never tasted their deli food; this was all new to us! They weren't putting out the dressing, different homemade gravies and string beans (with mushrooms and shallots) until Monday and our annual Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner is tomorrow, so we had to take a chance on the dressing, Porcini mushroom gravy and the aforementioned string beans which we heated samples of when we got home. As Carina told me a few days ago when I ordered [the dressing], it was THE best I've ever had (Sorry, Mother!) and the Porcini gravy was heavenly! We hit a grand slam--actually many grand slams--as we sampled their egg salad (to die for!), their cole slaw (also tops), their turkey salad (there should be law against it tasting so good!), their chicken salad, their red potato salad and their tuna salad (The latter three my other half sampled, not me). Before cashing out, we spied the petite cake and pastry section and took home the lemon blueberry Marscapone cake slice and their pumpkin coconut bar and chocolate cake. Haven't tried these desserts yet as we're so full from eating their main course deli items! We're going back Monday or Tuesday for the onion-sage gravy, more dressing and their candied pork ribs. By the way, they're packed at lunch time, so be prepared to wait. But their staff is first-rate and if you can get Carina to wait on you, you'll hit a grand slam, too! In the middle of a long ride, I was cravin a sando baddies and pulled into Roberts in Portola Valley. I had been to the Woodside location dozens of times but hadn't been here. When did they take over for whoever was here before? WHAT a great store!! I saddled up to the deli and ordered a turkey, avocado and brie on toasted wheat bread + some chips and a 20 oz. Coke Zero. Seeing how PV is one of America's most expensive places to live (http://www.househunt.com/most-expensive/), I had a 20 out and thought I might have to leave the soda at the register... I go to Roberts every single day. Overall, a great grocery store and the best in the area. The good: The meat department and butchers are fantastic. Get the chipotle chicken. The women who run the cash registers might be the sweetest people I've ever met. The bad: The deli sandwiches are disgusting and to make matters worse, the women who make the sandwiches constantly get your order wrong no matter how simple it is. They can also be rude. Good sandwiches for lunch, although breakfast is pretty bad. Breakfast burritos are pre-made, tasteless, bland. Eggs with chorizo have virtually no chorizo, just a tiny hint of chorizo flavor. Denver eggs have almost no ham. No salsa to help compensate for there being no spice or other flavor. Very nice staff. I found another local place for my breakfasts that's way better. I could give most of the soups about the same review, especially the chicken and sausage gumbo.....pretty bad. read more
