So here I am shopping in support of our small local business and farmers market, and couldn't help but over hearing a group of young women last week while visiting Roberts Petshop making negative and derogatory remarks after asking an employee for a free Bird. Talking about how bad the birds look and because they are caged. These young women must have never had a pet growing up. I can't imagine them being raised with respect. Talking about how Pet Super Market has given them free animals. Being a big business with high paying rents I doubt it very much they give anything away for free. They don't get it that the animals are not made and shipped from China. The pets come from local Breeders to all local stores in the area. So that being said says how dumb and stupid they sound when writing negative remarks about local business. Any business is monitored and licensed by federal and county agencies. If there is any wrong doing im sure they wouldn't be operating for more than 30 years. Get your priorities straight before bashing any business. I personally know and shop always at Roberts Pet Shop and can honestly say they are family owned and have the best care and prices. If you look around there are cameras recording with audio and extra cameras not in eye's view listening to your nonsense. Let's keep supporting our local small business. read more

Hi everyone! we bought a very beautiful baby tortoise here. I didn't know ANYTHING about caring for tortoises but we really loved ours. We spoiled him and even brought him to the vet for a check up after we got him. He had a slight respiratory infection. The vet was able to prescribe medicine and it prolonged his life for a few weeks. She thought that he would live but he didn't. He unfortunately had a bad infection which resulted in him dying from a seizure. It was heartbreaking cause we only had him for 2.5 months. These animals are supposed to live for decades. Because of this process, I did a ton of research about taking care of tortoises. They have specific needs regarding heat, food, UV, and quarantine that I now know were not being provided at the pet store. All of the turtles were together in the same cage (different species) and this is not good because the hatchlings are very fragile and really don't develop good immune systems until age one. Remember, in the wild they live in isolation, which means their little bodies are not prepared to fight infection. Our sweet tortoise lived a wonderful life (though short). I just feel as if he was doomed from the start due to the conditions at the store. I hope his story helps people consider the living conditions of the animals. If we continue to buy animals in this condition, these types of sales will continue. The best way to prevent this kind of maltreatment of animals is by not buying them. I wish we had known all of this beforehand. This was our very first pet we ever had, but I have learned a lot if we ever get another one. If anything, he lived a very good life. I only wish it could have been longer. read more

I have bought a baby Quaker parrot and a baby Sun Conjure parrot from Roberts and they have become the love of my life ! Maybe not the most glamorous place, but great birds at great prices. It brakes my heart walking by this shop every time. I choose not to even go to this flea market just because of this careless pet shop. I have relatives that have bought little pets that were sick and died. I in the market for a pet snake and went to Roberts pet shop to purchase the same day after getting him we went to a pet store for a tank set up and one of the buyers told us be careful because he bought a snake from him and it died. This is the saddest, most depressing place I've ever stepped foot in. I've been here twice while at the Redland farmer's market on weekends and always leave crying and heartbroken. Why do I return? I guess I hold onto some small fragment of hope that it has closed down. This place is hell. The birds are sick, overcrowded, neurotic and living in filth. Overplucked cockatoos, birds with nasal discharge kept in extremely close quarters, dirty water IF they even have water in the cages, the list goes on. My heart aches for these poor animals. The reptiles and some bird species are extremely questionable as far as where they were born and raised. I've seen toucans for sale here. How is that even legal?! This place is the epitome of illegal pet trade. I wish I knew a way to help shut it down. read more

Birds who were ripping their feathers out due to stress. Large parrots in depressing cages desperately trying to get out. Reptiles that looked sickly in small containers. Being located in a flea market, I expected to find animals in poor living conditions when I walked into the store. I was right. This store keeps its animals in crowded pens and cages and provides little to no water to them. Outside of the store is a large cage containing more than 30 chickens and 1 pig, and there was only one small receptacle of water for all of them. There is no a/c inside of the store and there are flies all over. Keep in mind we are in South Florida in the middle of summer. I truly hope this place improves the living conditions of the animals they offer for sale. I will never shop there and I encourage every reader of this review to truly evaluate Robert's Pet Shop before giving them your business. Under Florida Law 828.1615 Prohibiting artificial coloring and sale of certain animals.-- (1) It is unlawful for a person to: (c) Sell, offer for sale, or give away as merchandising premiums, baby chickens, ducklings, or other fowl under 4 weeks of age or rabbits under 2 months of age to be used as pets, toys, or retail premiums. -Some of the rabbits in Robert's Pet Shop appear to be under 2 months of age. read more

This place was the single worst place I've ever seen. The cages and everything else was cheap but the parrots and other birds as well as other animals had no food , in rusted cages and had over grown beaks. Extremely scared and ripping out feathers from the fear and stress of people and noise. No a/c either. I hope to god these poor birds get rescued. If you walk in and don't find a dead animal you should probably consider playing the lottery that day with luck like that. The only reason I've ever supported them was to take those animals out! I give them 3 stars because of the food. Good quantity for a great price. Unfortunately as far as the animals sold here I am not satisfied with their care. It seems that there is not enough staff to care for the abundance of animals. Kids are allowed to manhandle the rabbits, chicks and ducklings. On September 21, 2013 I purchased a rabbit from Robert's Pet Shop. It died the next day. When I brought it in was told that it had diarreah. Was told to get another one so I did. When got home noticed that the rabbit was not eating. Ended up having to hand feed him. Seemed that it was taken from his mother too soon. He started to eat rabbit food but not drinking much water. Also not gainning any weight and you can feel all his bones on his body. Today, September 30, 2013 the rabbit died. It is obvious that Robert's Pet Shop is selling sick animals. HORRIBLE --their animals are housed in tiny dirty cages, many are sick and dying. The parrots are plucked due to stress and cages so small they can't even spread their wings! The owner is awful, doesn't care about anything but money, and even smokes cigarettes around the birds. They don't deserve a single star so 1 star is too many for them. DON'T support this place. The pet shop is obviously not up to the standards of petco, petsmart, and other large pet chains. It's supposed to be a pet shop that sells low cost product and animals. Yes most of the times low cost can mean low quality. I haven't discovered this to be true in this store.. I've personally gone their looking for bearded dragons, reptile supplies, dog food and birds. The lovebirds I looked at are very pretty and they have a lot of them. The dragons they buy off breeders so you might just get lucky and find something good like I did. On a regular basis they'll just have regular normal dragons. Dog food highest brand I can compare the best quality to is Purina. Enough about the products, let's talk customer service. First word that comes to mind, improvement. The associates need to practice their customer service and keep in mind customers are what keeps your business thriving and keeps your job. Visited this place yesterday. Most of the negative reviews are spot on. This is such a sad and depressing place for animals. Overcrowded. Little food and water out. The guests can poke at and grab the animals. I noticed a little girl jabbing her pink umbrella at the chickens and then later inside the store at the other animals. One of the chickens was dying. The birds where all crowded into wire bottom cages. I felt terrible and helpless when I left this place. It should be shut down! read more

Robert's Pet Shop is the best pet shop down in South Florida. Ranging from their products to their customer service, they always have the best service every time I visit. I've been going to this shop since I was a little kid, and I've seen them expand from a small shop to an amazing, professional store. As for the comments listing how this pet shop is of poor quality, they don't appreciate the products they are selling at such an amazing and economic price! I've been to Pet Supermarket just to compare prices and it's the exact same products for a considerably cheaper price. These may be low cost prices, but definitely not low quality. read more

Awesome,Awesome Family Owned Pet Store. I've been visiting this store for over 25 years. I have purchased all types of animals as well as my first Bird. My kids were brought up visiting Robert Pet Shop and now my grown kids take their kids. It's awesome to now see three generations of father, sons and now his grandkids at the same Pets Store I visited with my family and still do. Shopping at local family owned stores and seeing generations continuing the same wonderful tradition is great. The feed is the freshest in town and the best prices. Have been a client of this place for over two decades and improvements have been done for the welfare of animals Robert's Pet Shop have for adoption.... have always seen cages that are clean also, clean water and food in the dishes place does not have bad odors, there are no flies and have never seen a dead animal ever....just the last time went to buy bird food, mentioned to the attendant at the counter that a baby red footed tortoise was upside down and immediately an announcement was made and in less than a minute yes LESS THAN A MINUTE an employee turn the baby tortoise to the correct position ...for crying out loud Stop this persecution against this Pet Shop...hope you guys stay put for many years to come..... read more

Noticed 1 dead turtle (maybe more), 3 dead baby chicks and 1 big fish dying while in there today. One cockatiel's chest was bare with one or two feathers clinging on. Another cockatiel was featherless on head. Another had wound on wing. Not much water for many animals and what was there was dirty. Worker denied any animals were dead though it was quite obvious. read more
