I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I had a horrible experience when they replaced my bathtub with a walk-in shower. 1) The job took 3 days instead of 1. 2) Measurements were all wrong, so my tub and drywall were removed before I was told that they did not have a shower kit that would fit the space needed. Only the shower pan fit. 3) I still need to find someone to finish the walls. 4) The icing on the cake of my bad experience was that they made some long scratches on my hardwood floor, yet are refusing to take responsibility for it because there were already some older scratches. They are totally disregarding the evalution that my flooring guy gave and continue to focus on the older scratches and say that they cannot take responsibility for them because there were already older scratches... they used no flooring protection, not even a drop cloth or paper, yet they take no responsibility for the damage. 5) No professional personel. I was sworn at by the technicians when I showed them the damage of the floor. When I called the office to report the damage, they said that they would send their flooring guy to evaluate it, but the "customer service representative" came to take some pictures but mainly came to pressure me into paying instead. He said that the owner would not address the damage until I paid in full, even though that is the only leverage I have other than leaving a bad review.. so here I am leaving a bad review. Until this year, we thought Robinson's was a decent business. Now we say be extremely careful verifying pricing and every detail of services Robinson's is to provide.  Use your phone to record all conversations and then follow up in writing if you want to avoid getting the run around should a problem arise.  When there's an issue, the response is, "You must have misunderstood."  Will NEVER call this company again. No longer believe they can be trusted. Why? 1 -- They don't operate in good faith to honor estimates for repairs. After replacing our pump, they were to return and install a new crock and repair the alarm which tells us the pump isn't working. Although the alarm's high water warning light and bell were both working before Robinson's replaced our pump, the bell's ringing was muffled. After pump replacement, the high water light and bell no longer functioned at all. Odd. Arragon, the technician, said the alarm box wiring was faulty, and we probably needed a new alarm and new alarm float switch.  So we asked him to estimate fixing the alarm at the time he returned to replace the crock. After working quite some time at replacing the old crock, Arragon told my husband he'd have to return later to finish the alarm repair.  Another customer had an emergency he needed to address. We were later told our estimate only included replacing the alarm float switch -- not getting the alarm system working again.  The alarm repair would be an additional $395.  We were also told we "must have misunderstood" -- not only about the alarm repair, but also about there being an emergency.  The office told us that was untrue. None of this makes sense unless the goal was to leave the job unfinished then return and charge more to complete work on a job which was improperly estimated at the start.  I hope this wasn't the case, but the mysterious emergency reported by one employee and denied by another is hard to explain, as were the extra trip and charges to fix our alarm. Why would we ask to replace an alarm float switch instead of getting the alarm SYSTEM working again?  A working float switch without a working alarm to warn of a potential overflow is of zero value. Robinson's refused to return and finish the job, so we called in someone else to diagnose and repair the alarm.  Turns out, it was only a blown fuse -- no wiring problem, and possibly no bad alarm float switch -- but we had to pay trip and diagnostic fees to another repair service to get it fixed. When we asked that our bill be adjusted, the office said they "doubted it would cost $100 for a blown fuse."  They'd estimated $395 for the alarm repair, but a $100 charge was suspect!?  Anyone know a repairman who'll show up at your house for less than that, much less make a repair, too? 2 -- They damaged our basement flooring and subflooring. When the old crock was removed, gravel in the surrounding pit also had to come out for the new crock to be installed.  The new crock was not placed in the same position as the old one -- more to the right and much lower down.  This resulted in a chunk being broken out of the concrete floor in the pump closet.  I don't know whether this was accidental or done purposefully, but our floor was damaged. Rock was also left outside our basement door for us to clear away. The new crock was installed with its top BELOW the level of the basement floor whereas the top of the old crock was AT floor level.  As a result, rock previously there as support for the concrete slab slid into the pit, leaving a void under our slab, both inside the pump closet and outside the door.  Had the new crock been installed at the same height as the old one, this undermining problem could have been addressed by simply adding more rock.  Because the new crock was many inches lower, a concrete "wall" had to be build to support the slab and keep rock from sliding into the area around the crock or even into the crock should the top need removal for pump or alarm maintenance.  Robinson's also refuses to compensate us for the cost of repairs for this damage. read more

DO NOT USE! We contacted Robinson's Plumbing because of their good business rating, but have had a HORRIBLE experience with them. They said we needed to replace our waterline and took my deposit. We set a date a week away and the repair man said I didn't need to be there for them to get started. (I asked because we were staying with my parents because the water had to be off until the line was repaired.) When the day came I showed up to the house and no one was there. I waited a while and finally called to find out that they had shown up, called the wrong phone number to see where I was and then left when they didn't get me. I told the receptionist that I was home now and they could come. She said they had already started another job and had rescheduled our appointment for the middle of next week. I asked if I could get another plumber to do the work could I get my deposit back. The receptionist said yes. So I set to work finding a different plumber. I contacted JR Tilley who said they could take care of it and offered to do it for $2000 less that Robinson! I called Robinson's back to confirm that I would receive my whole deposit back if I canceled and went with another company. The receptionist told me yes, so I canceled the appointment with Robinson's Plumbing. JR Tilley did the work and we had water again before the end of the week. I waited for the deposit to be returned, but it never came in the mail so I called Robinson Plumbing. That's when I started getting the run around. The receptionist would say they would send the check, then a few days late I would call and she would say they were going to write me a letter and send a check. Sometimes I was told there might be a restoking fee. I explained to them the situation multiple times and even spoke with the manger. I explained I expected to pay the $89 service fee and then receive the rest of the deposit back. That was what I had been told was going to happen over the phone before I made the appointment. I was told that there were labor costs and restocking fees and that the invoice said that there was a 20% fee for canceling. I explained that I didn't remember signing an invoice. The manager looked through their records and confirmed that even though they sent me an invoice, I did not sign it. (I don't remember getting it.) Therefore the only information I had was by word of mouth and I had been told that I would receive the full deposit back minute the $89. service fee. The manager explained that I would get a letter and I found out that they plan to charge me the 20% fee for cancelling even though I never saw or sign that invoice and I had received an verbal confirmation that my deposit would be refunded. I did not expect this from a company with such a good rating and I will NEVER do business with them again! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR HARD EARNED MONEY WITH ROBINSON'S PLUMBING! read more

Called Robinson Plumbing to replace a fill valve and flapper on a toilet. It was at most $30 in parts and 45 minutes of work. They charged me $300. I called them the next day to ask why the charge was so high. They said that was their standard charge for that job. read more

We had issues with water line clogged by debris, a problem we experienced in the past. We contacted several companies who told us we have to wait 3-4 days and live without water. The woman who answered the phone said that there would be no problem installing 3 shower grab bars. I explained that one is to be mounted in marble the other 2 in a different tub/shower in tile. She never explained the $89.00+ 'just come to the house' charge. Well, when the 2 techs came to the house they basically said that their company needs to break through into the adjacent wall and install plywood to anchor the grab bars. We had a grab bar installed in our marble shower a few years back...same shower...it was a simple install. No problems. No plywood. No breaking through walls. We ended up paying Robinson Plumbing almost $300.00 to change a flapper and get a jug of their Bio-chemical drain cleaner. I know they have a great rating and I respect that. Have used for leaking toilet, faucet set install, water heater replacement, install house shut off valve under the kitchen sink + shut off valves for upstairs tub & now the my water supply pipe is BUSTED --yikes! Christine at the office managed to fit a service call in on a Friday. Ryan came to my house & I was impressed with the thorough assessment, his patience answering many questions, his honesty about scheduling. Terrible company. They replaced outside faucets, no complaints with that portion of the work. The issue was with poor work ethics and trying to hide the fact that they take short cuts thinking it won't be found. They installed a new fiberglass tub that had 5 legs that needed to be individually leveled and should have been sitting on the floor in a bed of mortar, after they left I was able to look under the tub through a plumbing hatch and saw that not one single leg was on the ground and the mortar was a small pile of dry mix that didn't even touch the bottom of the tub. They carried out half of the old cast iron tub (I had already removed the other half using a moving blanket to protect the stairs), they didn't use anything and left stains going down the entire staircase that never came out, even with professional cleaning. They did provide a bit of a refund for doing improper installation, but still charged $250 for carrying down the half tub. Their prices are too high and their work ethic is too low. These guys totally changed my opinions of service contractors. In the past all contractors I had dealt with from comcast, to HVAC, to plumbers never showed up on time, or would give a quote then not seem to want to come back on time to complete work or would miss deadlines NOT Robinson's! This company runs like a well oiled machine. They show up when they promise, they complete work quickly and efficiently, and are reasonable with their rates. I do not mind paying for quality if it means i pay for it once and the work lasts. Will never use a different company again. Keep up the good work guys! I wish I could rate the actual work, but the technician never showed up during the two hour window we were given, nor did we receive a call during that window notifying us that he would be late. We finally called Robinson's and they informed us the technician would be an hour late - we took off work to be home for the entire two hour window and could not stay an extra hour. We have sewage coming out of our drains so this was an emergency. Fortunately we found another local plumber who was able to work with our schedule and the rate was significantly less. read more

I had Mike come and replace a section of cracked cast iron in a difficult corner of the house. Not only did Robinsons Plumbing provide the lowest bid, he did a quick and quality repair in half a day; suprisingly quick for the difficulty of the job. When the repair had clogged the drain pipe below the fixed section, he came back the next day and after a thorough inspection he unclogged it without question. He even went beyond expectation and snaked the drain line all the way to the street. Robinsons Plumbing and Mike will be the first people I call the next time I need a plumbing issue resolved. read more

I have been meaning to write this review since last winter. We had a problem involving a hot water circulating pump and our hot water heater. Of course, it was the weekend, less than zero outside, and no hot water running through the pipes of our 100+year old fan house. I called Robinson's, and they sent Rodney. W O W. He not only diagnosed the problem within one minute, he did the repair almost as fast. We waited for the water to fill the tank, made sure it would light, and he left with a smile and a handshake. Superb knowledge and efficiency! IDK if all Robinson's technicians are as good as this guy, but the dispatcher (who is also very knowledgeable) says they are, and I believe her. You can't get any better than Robinson's. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. read more

Nice company to deal with, they get the job done. Their prices are on the high side. Charged more that $650 to fix a fitting that was leaking from my water meter. Two people to do this job? Really? If you are not concerned about money, then go with these guys, however if your on a budget then get multiple estimates. They talk about exact pricing, you would think okay what if the job takes less time or not as much in material? Shouldn't I be charged less? What would have delighted me, is if they came to me and said "we didn't have to dig as much and it took less time then what we originally planned so we are knocking a few bucks off the job." read more

Our realtor recommended Robinsons Plumbing to replace the water tank for our well. The house inspector gave us an estimated range of what a normal charge for this work would be. Robinsons was the only repair we had done that exceeded the upper range of the estimates. Actually, it greatly exceeded the normal charge. When my husband asked why the bill was so high he was told that it included a $68 trip charge!! This was on top of the charge for doing the work. We were never told of this charge beforehand. When we complained to our realtor she said that didn't sound right and she contacted Robinsons. They said this was a normal charge and there would be no refund. We would never hire this company to do any further work for us. Buyer beware. read more

Their prices are outrageous. They charge $59 just to show up. Then another price to assess your problem. Then another price to fix the problem. Talk about nickel and diming. Overall, to replace a leaking pipe, they estimated $400--that's on top of the show up charge and assessment charge. Our assessment charge was $55. After the got the estimate to fix the problem, we hired someone else, but we were still out the almost $120 they charged us to show us and tell us what was wrong. Ridiculous. We ended up using Conston and they charged us $183 to fix the pipe. read more

A great experience! I was in a real bind because our gas hot water heater went out. It appeared to be the igniter. It's a 80k BTU, dual burner, 75 gallon power vented unit but if it won't light what's the point. You can't manually light it b/c the electronics lock out the gas supply. Anyway, I called and the very kind receptionist found a way to work me into their schedule. Her assistance cannot be overstated b/c without her efforts I would have been out of luck. Robert the technician was the most helpful technician I've ever encountered. He went above and beyond! He tracked down the needed part that the local supplier didn't have and was able to pick it up even though it was across town. You could tell he really cared about my family having hot water. He also spent time explaining the options for a replacement hot water heater if needed down the road and all the great services Robinson's Plumbing provides. Based on this interaction I know I will be calling them for all my plumbing needs. I like that they are a local company that really values helping people. Besides their good reviews i went with them b/c I'm near James River HS so they are close by and they sell State HW heater - the Brand I have. I utilized this company for repair/replacement of a well pump. I must say that I was taken back by the service person's comments when I introduced family members to him. He was extremely discourteous to me and my family. I also asked to be placed on a payment plan for the repairs requested and I was, in turn, treated with the upmost disrespect regarding this process. I received calls and emails from them regarding my payment plan, they performed a water test at my residence, and didn't send me the results until I had to finally request them. I asked about preventative maintenance plans and they did not want to talk to me--not sure why. I guess I was not deemed suitable as a potential customer. They did complete the necessary repairs at my residence, but the manner in which I was treated left me feeling like I was not a "proper" customer for them. I will never utilize their service again, basically because of the way I was treated by their service person, managers, and others in their employ. read more

Robinson's advertises "No Surprises Pricing";however, we experienced this not once but twice. The first was our pre-purchase inspection and main sewer line scope. We were prepared for the $100 inspection but there was no quote on the scope. The total was $450. We did not receive the video documentation of the scope because they didn't take one, so when I need the work done I will need to pay another company to perform another scope. We were especially concerned about the remodeled bathroom upstairs but were assured it checked out - we discovered a major leak if the bathtub is used which now pours into our newly remodeled kitchen. The owner personally quoted $1000 to move 2 radiator lines and a pipe to the 2nd floor toilet (when we had no walls in place). Our work was delayed twice due to their scheduling issues. Our final bill came in at 270% of the quote - $2691! They stated time and materials for the increase and expected payment in full. Do not believe their no surprises pricing! read more
