I've been coming to the Binghamton area my entire 45 years and I love it. Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Tioga Gardens, Greenwood Lake, Endicott Cinema Saver, Chucksters, are all of our go-to fun spots. This summer, however, it was just my son and I. Father and son bonding requires a special outing, so I simply Googled "Fun things to do in Binghamton" Robot City was the first thing that popped up, and quite frankly, I didn't read further. With the help of a GPS, we found RC pretty easily, just a few minutes from 17. I was told the area might be shady but , being from Philly, it didn't stand out as a particularly bad area. There was also ample parking next to the building in case you were wondering. Upon walking in, the child that still lives within me had a heart attack. On display was almost every single game system known to manchild complete with the software. I even saw a godamn Game Glove! I wasn't really in the market for such things but it was entertaining just browsing. In the back of the store lays the arcade. From sight to sound to smell it was reminiscent of the arcades I frequented in my own Stranger Things days of the early 80s. Even the 2 tone neon paint job on the walls nailed it. The place is near perfection. Before actually playing, we just walked the rows, geeking out on each game. You'll find all the greatest hits here, from Pac Man to Donkey Kong. Also pinball aplenty. My PS4 playing 15 yr old son quickly adapted to the 8bit life. We separated and did our own thing and I was both thrilled and jealous to keep seeing the BEN name in number 1 spots. Also cool is that my 2 favorite games from my day that they had at Robot City; Joust and Gyruss, turned out to be my sons favorites without me even influencing it. This shit is genetic! I've been to a few 80s arcades (recently) and Robot City is by far the best. Notable exceptions here (and the others) are 2 of my favorite 80s games ; Kangaroo and Burger Time. They must be difficult to get. I like the pricing system here. I've been to some where you pay a flat fee and play games for free within a time limit, but I prefer Robot City's method of simply buying tokens ($10-44 tokens etc). Most games were 1 token, some 2. It worked for us, mostly because my son is a video game savant. We stretched $10 into an hour and a half visit. We came again and did the $20 for 96 tokens and after 2+ hours, we had to leave with a handful of unused tokens (like Aanold , we will be back) If I lived in the area, I'd be here at least monthly. I hope the people of the southern tier don't take this place for granted, it's a real gem. read more

I love this place, it has an old school arcade where $20 will last the whole day. Just be prepared if you buy a game or console that it might not work. Im not sure they actually test this stuff when they buy it. We bought a game and it didn't work, I went through all the trouble shooting and it still didn't work. Quite sad about that and makes me weary about buying the consoles I had planned to buy. They should probably start testing the stuff they buy, it would save them and their customers a lot of time and money. read more

RCG is just the place for you to go back in time, and play some of your favorite old time games, a time when you probably were living with less worries, and escape to that time even if it's only for a couple of hours. They have a great selection of game cassettes for old the old platforms, and the people that work there are very knowledgeable, and more than willing to help our with everything game wise...I wish they were closer to home, I miss playing Berserk, Defender, and Space Invaders. read more

I found this shop by accident while Googling. It's very out of the way, but worth your trip. They have an extensive collection of old computers and consoles, as well as very nicely organized games. They probably have the largest Atari and cartridges for consoles of that era that I've seen. Of course, everything since as well. They even had some old Commodores, Atari, and RadioShack Computers. The staff was extremely knowledgeable when helping me look for an old computer part. On top of this all, they have a super cool retro arcade in the back. I'm so sorry it took me this long to find it. I will definitely return when I'm in the area. read more

They had mostly original Xbox games and "retro" Nintendo games for sale. Prices were average, not dirt cheap. Lots of controllers though, no official Wii remotes, but some quality off brand ones (which I bought). They know what they have if you ask (they did not have half life ps2). I didn't have time to check the arcade, so no opinion. read more

Great place to visit and spend a few hours! The front part is a store selling a ton of games, consoles etc. really fun to look around and see what they have. Pricing seemed fair and pretty good. The back is a full arcade with pinball games, full on arcade game console, etc. They have a coin machine that spits out tokens for the games. Most games took 2 tokens; some took more or less. Some of the game controls were not very reactive but the games are pretty old. The game arcade place by my home uses a wristband to track the time you spend in the arcade and they scan your band when you leave to see how much time you played. Much nicer that way as opposed to using tokens. It was sooo dark in there I had to use my phone to see where to put the tokens and I wasn't the only one. They lose one point for having NO hand sanitizers that were working. Kinda gross not to be able to at least clean your hands after touching all those games. read more

Good time throw back arcade. O. G. Gauntlet was fun to play with brothers. No DigDug, Astroids, Battle Tanks, Spy Hunter or Dragon's Lair. I was slightly disappointed. All games were a token or two. Very affordable. Many different and fun pinball machines. read more

If you are a person who grew up in the 80's, as I did, you must check out this place. I was in Binghamtom visiting my daughter and she introduced me to this place. They pretty much have every single arcade game and they are all just .25 cents. My all time favorite game is Robotron and they had it. This was my 4th time here. I am surprised that this store doesn't get more attention. It's really a cool little gem in an area that doesn't have a whole lot of unique retail offerings. It's basically two stores in one; the front half is a used video game store covering all the major consoles (and also some of the rarer ones). It's not quite as huge as the larger Sound-Go-Round (which appears to have bought out the M.A.Ts Bead store next door and expanded) but it is certainly a respectable size. It has all of the games and systems that GameStop no longer carries. The real treat is the large arcade in the back half of the store. They have tons of games, mostly from the 1980's and 1990's. Most of the games seemed to be one coin, though there were a few that were two or three coins. Most games worked and looked good, but I did find a couple that had a bad controller or a blurry screen. They also have pinball machines lined up along one wall. On the down side; the neighborhood is pretty run down. There are parking meters outside, but none of them work. I asked inside if I had to feed the meter and the guy behind the counter said that they haven't worked in years. The machines take tokens, not quarters, which makes it a little harder to figure out how much each play costs (since it's not always 25c per token, depending on how many you buy). Also be aware that if you buy more tokens than you use, they will not buy them back from you, at any rate. I guess I overestimated how interested my kids would be in video games from 30 years ago! I ended up selling my extras to a guy who just walked in and was about to buy tokens from the machine. All in all, there's a really cool vibe here and the employees do seem to really be in to games and know their stuff. Definitely one of the highlights of my recent trip to the area. read more

My boyfriend and I made a trip to the Binghamton area to visit some breweries and heard about Robot City Games. We're glad we stopped in. Very nostalgic! The place is very clean and well organized. There is machine to get tokens to play the different games and cups to put your tokens in so it's easy to carry them around. Most games seemed to be 25 cents or 50 cents. Lots and lots of pinball machines and other games you'll remember from your childhood. There was a guy going around with a little vacuum making sure the place stayed clean. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and there were a good amount of people in there, but it wasn't so busy that you couldn't move around. They also have a restroom in the building. Just ask the people at the counter for the key. There were a few times that I put money in and the game didn't work. We'd definitely go back if we're in the area. read more

Every time Ms Pac-man and I need to get a bite to eat, we always choose Robot City Games and Arcade. We usually start of with a couple mushrooms followed by a few centipedes. For the main course I prefer a good asteroid to get me ready for my rampage. The Ms will usually take the time to shoot her own duck while take a trip to the spacious restrooms for some hydro thunder. After dinner we can joust for pole position before sharing a delicious frogger for dessert. It's in a great location on the way home to our house of dead. Robot City is like no other. My dad set the high score on Galaga! If you're a child of the 80s, this arcade is definitely a cool blast from the past. The arcade is just past an extensive game selection (although I didn't look because I know nothing about that lol). It's pretty loud with lots of flashing lights back there but pretty cool overall! This is a arcade and a retro video game store so both sides of the business have there plus and minuses. I'll start with the retro video game side because thats what I'm most interested in and most knowledgeable about. Also it's what your presented with first when you walk in. There games and consoles are way over priced. They claim it is because they have a buy 3 get 1 free deal but the total of all 4 games is still way over priced. Before buying from them I would check Parlor City Cards and Collectibles or Sound go Round for what your looking for. If those establishments have the item it will most definitely be much cheaper. With that said Robot City Games seems to have much more of the rare items than the other establishments in the area. That might be partly because of the price and the item staying on the shelf. Do not bring your items in to trade or sell! There trade in credit or cash offers are insulting low to say the least. Which makes no sense to me with there prices being so high. I would suggest bringing your items to the other places I mentioned to get the most for them. The store is clean and the items they sell are clean and well organized. The arcade is large and diverse. The cabinets take tokens not quarters so DO NOT buy to many tokens because they will not buy back your unused ones. Most of the cabinets are fair with the token prices but there are a few that are not. Most of the time the arcade is not crowded and the cabinets do not have a line. The arcade are of the store is dimly lit so the arcade cabinet lights really pop adding a cool feel to the environment. Over all it's the best arcade in the area in all fairness it's the only one I know of or have been to. A few other things are that the establishment is not in a safe area so I don't like taking my children. The staff is rude and unfriendly. Also contrary to what others have posted there is not a lot of parking. The lot is big but it is shared and if visiting Robot City your only permitted to park on the left along the building there are signs indicating this which leaves few spots available. read more

Best arcade in New York state hands down. They have the best old school classic machines for only a quarter. And the best part is that they are all fun. It's definitely very cool that a place like this exists in the Binghamton area. They have an arcade with tons of games and they have a store where they sell game systems new and old, and they have a ton of used games. they were missing a few games I would have liked though, and some of the games are a little more expensive than I've seen at Sound Go Round, but they do have some decent deals like if you buy 3 games you get one free, and you get $5 off a game if you buy a gaming system from them. read more

They always, always have the games that I want-- I love to buy older games because I have way too much free time on my hands. I brought my older consoles up to school with me as well, and they satisfy my need for a more out-of-date game. Prices are affordable, store is organized, and they're super accommodating. read more
