I stopped by Sound Go Round today (May 27) with a bunch of Pokémon plush toys, some action figures, and a few DVD movies. My brother-in-law and nephew came along, but this was strictly my deal -- they were just along for the ride. I was really happy with how smoothly everything went. The staff treated me well, and I walked out with a nice mix of store credit and cash in my pocket. I didn't make a big fuss or smile too much because I didn't want my family thinking I was getting any kind of special treatment. They actually thought I was crazy for making the trade at all, but that's okay -- it was my stuff, and I'm the one who decides. I wasn't trying to get rich or score a huge payday; I'd just gotten bored with it all and wanted it gone. Sound Go Round handled everything fairly and professionally. I've visited this place once or twice a year over the past decade when I am in the area. Comparing the the many similar type stores around the country, I'll give a few points on this particular place. They have a pretty comprehensive variety in stock both among and between categories of both new and used/vintage (video games, music, movies, collectables, comics and so forth). Each category has its own section of the store. Their prices used to be a bit under the equivalent ebay cost even before shipping (if a game was $20 on ebay + $5 shipping, they would have it as $16), but over the years they caught up to, and are now basically same prices plus or minus a couple dollars even after considering shipping, however they will sometimes offer sales on categories (buy one get one 50% off or buy three get one free) which give them back the pricing advantage. The exception is the rarer stuff, which can be more volatile in price, so sometimes a sought after game can be somewhat over or under priced for example. I've bought dozens of games, comics, consoles from them over the years, all worked, and the one time I had an issue they resolved it ( I bought a complete run of new mutants which noted it had a reprint of 98, but did not note having a reprint of 87, so I was able to return after opening the set and finding this). On the selling side, I rarely sell stuff, but like anywhere, they are designed to make a profit, so if you are looking to sell for cash by definition you are not going to get market value, so I recommend getting store credit, and then waiting for a sale day to buy other stuff you want and you might end up ahead of the market rate on your trade in! The reason its not 5 stars is the place can be a bit cramped, and hard to browse if there are more than a handful of people in the area you are shopping, and they over pack the back issue comics bins such that you can't really flick though the issues, you need to pull them out of the tightly packed bin to see them, and if you want to buy something in a case (understandably most valuable items are locked in cases) it can take a while to get somebody to get it for you to buy. read more

The Pokémon black didn't work properly, and I had a relative return it because I was on a trip halfway across the country (literally). Staff has been nice both trips. Most hardware is first party, there is usually a significant discount for third party additions or parts (ex: $100-200 ds vs $60 modded shell ds with a few cosmetic damages). Every time I have visited this store, the service has always been terrible. The workers are perpetually pissed off it doesn't even seem real. Every time I ask for assistance I receive an audible sigh and last time was there an employee audibly said "Oh my god" when I asked for help. It had been like this every time except maybe one and I have been there plenty of times due to it being the closest card shop. This place just does everything right, man. Very friendly and cool staff, with a wide selection of games, comics, merch, and more - got a great atmosphere and plays awesome music too. I think the best thing though is the pro-consumer culture. They don't try to screw you at all ~ once bought a Xbox controller but it was broke. Didn't have the receipt. Guy working says "Don't worry I believe you. Exchange it out for another one. Whatever one you want!". Awesome customer service. Way above the big box stores. 10/10! read more

These guys are on the Vestal Parkway now, just past the library going west on the right. Awesome! Excellent used games in every conceivable format (I even have our old SNES & Sega Genesis out again because of these guys.) and we've never had a problem. Got myself a couple of Wild Arms, Final Fantasy III & IV, and Crash Bandicoots, too. We've purchased a used GB, GBA, GBC, and PSP here and they worked beautifully. The staff will help you locate ANY game you can imagine and their music selection (go LPs!) as well as their DVD selection is amazing. Check out the books, too. Went once in 2012 and again in 2016. They've since expanded and really cleaned up the place. There used to be a bead store next door called M.A.T which seems to have closed, and Sound Go Round has expanded into that space. The store is very well organized and staffed well. The prices are on the high side, but that's what happens when you have a local business trying to sell used media. There were some bargains, but few and far between. I'd have rated 3 stars for the prices, but you can't expect yardsale prices when they have to support a store, employees, pay taxes, etc. If you are looking for video games and accessories, movies, or CDs, they probably have it. read more

This place is a joke. The last 2 times I brought my son in to sell stuff I'm told they don't have cash but can give store credit. When I come back when they have cash I get a different amount, which is less. Went there Sunday was told my son could get cash for his stuff but of course there was no cash. Then I was told when we come back we might not get offered the same amount because everyone is different. We went back today and my son was told they couldn't take one of his things because they already had 3. When I told her it was going to be taken on Sunday she took an attitude and said that was what her manager told her. She didn't talk to the manager. I am sooooo done with this place and won't recommend them to anyone. read more

Purchased an item from them on eBay and never received it! Said it was shipped and when I sent an email about it they never responded! They refunded my money but they pulled a bait and switch! I purchased the lp with the buy it now feature with free shipping. After a couple of days they sent an email saying it was not available and would refund and I replied back that I would report them and leave negative feedback on eBay. Then I got a reply that the item had indeed been shipped! IT NEVER ARRIVED! They LIED! I would NEVER buy anything from this lying company again! Stay far away from this type of business! read more

Love this store! They have a huge selection and a knowledgable and friendly staff. They are willing to work with you on purchase prices and offer fair trade in values too. I have never once had a bad experience at Sound Go Round. Worst thing that ever happened was i bought an expensive dreamcast game and the employee forgot to put the disc in the case. I didnt notice until later that evening well after closing, returned the next day got the game no problem and got a nice discount on my next purchase for my troubles, most VG stores would never do such thing nowadays. read more

i held off on writing a review of this place for a while because i always had mixed feelings, but i don't really know why because last week when i was there on record store day i had a great experience. on record store day i went to music city (which opened at 9) and sound go round (which opened at 10). i got to music city 20 minutes after they opened and only about 10 people were in the store. they had all their record store day releases in one small section that you had to crowd around to get a look at. i got a few records that i really wanted because i wasn't sure what SGR was going to have. turns out SGR had the records i already bought plus many more. i got to SGR 10 minutes before they opened and got in line. i counted roughly 25 people ahead of me. i thought that when i got inside i'd be fighting to get in to find the records i wanted but that was not the case, they most of the RSD releases layed out on a big table so everything was easy to find. a few of the releases were scattered through the store but it led you to check out their selection of used records. i ended up spending about $50 or so here. a few releases were a little pricey but i don't know how much control they had over RSD releases. they had a lot more releases than Music City and they put a lot of care into the event. they had snacks laid out and also gave away prizes, and when i got home and took the records out of my bag i found 2 free 7"s and a hand written thank you note! these guys really care about their customers! they have a great selection of new and used DVDs, most of which are very reasonably priced. this place has the edge over music city because this place is more in touch with the underground scene and what the younger people are into. if you're more into classic rock then music city might be your place to go, but they do have a pretty good selection of the classics here too. the staff is pretty friendly here and they are always willing to help promote local music, i've been in bands and sold music here and hung fliers in the window. the owner of music city wouldn't let me hang a flier in his space. this place is great, not perfect but still great. Angry Mom Records in Ithaca is still my favorite but they are hard to top, i have no idea how they come up with the records they get but for binghamton Sound Go Round reins supreme. read more

These guys are helpful, friendly and while they aren't quite as impressive in terms of their scope and selection as Syracuse's Sound Garden, they're close--and certainly the best option you've got for movies, music and the odd graphic novel in the Southern Tier. read more

These guys run a great shop. They have a ton of classic games, movies, and music. They usually give you a pretty fair trade for your used stuff and claim that they give at least 25% more than Gamestop for video game trades. Their prices are obviously not as low as you could get on Amazon, but they are also not a rip off by any means. I feel good patronizing this place. It's a great example of a successful local business. read more

Stay away. Very poor business. I stopped there today and found a DVD that wasn't priced too bad and a ps3 game that looked like a great deal. I realized that the game was incorrectly marked. I assumed that since EVERY OTHER BUSINESS I've ever shopped at honors the price of an item that s incorrectly marked, I assumed that this business would do the same. WRONG!! They realized their error after I had already paid for the item and said I needed to pay them MORE!! They actually started fighting with me about the price because I said that, since it s not my fault it s marked wrong, I should get the price that is on the item. Yea right, they said that they couldn't t in good conscience give me the item at the marked price. Even though it was them that screwed up. I told them to keep it and to give me my money back. Every business that I've ever been to will honor a price if they screw up. NOT SOUND GO ROUND!! Very rude employees, poor business practices and very overpriced. Save your money and go to Gamestop. At least they re easier to do business with and aren't sleazeballs. read more
