We had the opportunity to try this food truck recently as part of our apartment community gathering. According to our neighbor who arranged this, it was the easiest event she was ever in charge of. The "sammiches" were delicious and the variety was amazing! The staff who fed us, Julie and Rob, were friendly and got us all fed quickly. Quite possibly the answer to all my hopes and dreams... french fries IN the sandwich, ummm, best. sandwich. ever. Thanks Pittsburgh for inventing it and even more thanks to RCS for bringing it to Rochester, food truck style. I was happy to make my first visit at one of the Food Truck Rodeos at the Public Market. Convenient stop to eat 'til I burst, why yes, count me in. We arrived early so the lines were short. I had a light lunch in anticipation of the rodeo so I was salivating for some grub by the time we got our sammie. I recommend you share or save some for later because this is one hearty sandwich. My friend and I split the halves, packed with chicken (cut in strips), a pile of slightly sweet, but tangy coleslaw, and of course the french fries. Personally, I think the coleslaw made the sandwich, serving as a condiment and refreshing veggie for some crunch. It's a new thing for me, I used to hate it. Probably because what I had in the past had too much mayo, but this slaw was delightful. For $7, this hit the spot and I can't wait to give the other meat sammiches a whirl. I had the Roc n Philly steak sandwich and french fries from this truck today. They didn't have the horsey aioli (which I wanted to try) so they said they could put the country sweet sauce on it. The sandwich was palatable and had a good amount of shaved steak, fries, and lettuce. It could definitely use more peppers though. The french fries were crisp but relatively flavorless. A co-worker got cajun fries which sounded pretty good but I didn't know that was option (perhaps I didn't read the menu well enough). Overall, for a food truck lunch it's not bad for the price. We had a work event at UofR and the first day I had the Rachel, It was a wrap with smoked turkey and pastrami but my favorite part was the coleslaw that they put inside the wrap. Probably the best coleslaw I've ever had! This truck must be getting the French fries from the same supplier as McDonald's, because the fries are like McDonald's fries but 20 times better, I think the seasoning on them is delicious! Had my first sammich last night. They were parked out front of lux, and after having a few beers I was very happy there was a truck out front. It really didn't matter who it wS to be honest. I ordered the roc philly. Bread was really delicious. But I wish my sandwich had double the meat. The bread was thick and even tho I didn't want the peppers and onions the ratio still was a little short in the meat department. The aioli that it was served w was tasty. And the fries were cooked perfectly. Nice crunch. But they were just regular fries. Needed some salt. I dunked it in the aioli. The gentlemen who took my order was super friendly. Finally made it to the Wing Nutz truck to try the wing nutz waffle cones. I think is is one of the most inventive street food items in ROC, and was really excited to try it. Unfortunately it just didn't deliver. The chicken itself was good, but for some reason, they decided to make the waffle cone soft. Additionally, one couldn't say that the softness was there to emulate the feeling of "chicken and waffles" because the waffle was fairly thin. This, paired with the fact that the waffle cone was cold, led to it becoming soggy wherever the sauce touched. Alternatively, the spots that the sauce didn't touch were chewy. I really do think the dish would have come together a lot more if it was on a hard waffle cone. As it is, it feels like an incomplete dish, so I cannot fully recommend it. However, if they keep working on it, I think there is room for improvement. read more

I have been fortunate enough to try Roc City Sammich on a number of occasions when they park downtown on Broad at South or when we hit up the Food Truck Rodeo on the last Wednesday of the month (April-October). I personally love mixing the pastrami & the shaved steak to make an even more delicious sandwich (even the guys in the truck were impressed with my custom creation). I always think of these sandwiches as Pittsburgh's answer to Roc's plates - complete with fries. This is perhaps Roc-centric thinking on my part, but these sandwiches are really great so I don't really care where they came from. So I already wrote one review for this great food truck but as hard as it is to believe the best has only gotten better! There have been several changes since my first review of Roc City Sammich, all for the better. Around the time I posted, Roc City Sammich was operating out of a trailer, a pimped out trailer but a trailer non the less. Shortly there after the owner managed to get his full fledges food truck up and running. He has the kinks worked out and is now operating at full capacity in this roomy rollin restaurant, cookin up and serving some fantastic food. Now we have a lot of great trucks around Rochester, I wish the city made it a bit easier on them but sometimes progress is slow. One of the things that I particularly like about RCS is that the food is simple, delicious and affordable. I saw a truck the other day charging $9 or $10 for some of it's food and that might work in a lot of places but a $6.50 almost 1 pound Sandwich is a bit more down to earth I think. So how is the owner/ Chefmixing it up with the new storage space? Well how about a Zweigles hot dog, wrapped in bacon and tossed into the fryer, served on a fresh roll with mustard and his unique sweet slaw? Sounds good? IT IS GOOD! Or if your are looking for some healthier options how about a salad? Or a chicken ceaser wrap? Great flavors with a healthy flare. He has also started trying out some specials of the day for around $7. Todays was a bacon infused burger with what esle but bacon and a few secret ingrediants mixed right into the fresh beef! This comes with cooked peppers and onions and a jalapeno ranch sauce on fresh bread, with a side of fries. If your feeling something simple and only have a few bucks how about a throw back to the days of youth? Enjoy a $2 corn dog!! Tried this truck for the first time last night at the food truck rodeo. The size of the sandwich is definitely worth the price and worth sharing with someone if you plan on eating anything else. For $8 the sandwich had a decent amount of pastrami, fries, and coleslaw. Overall, I would eat this again. My only complaint was that the sandwich was a little dry. If they added a true rochester twist on it and had the option to put Boss Sauce on your sandwich, then it would be over the top! Also compliments on the service. Very unhappy with my Roc City Sammich experience. I've avoided the truck simply because of their pictures. They look unappetizing. However, I gave them a chance. They must look better in person, right? Wrong. I stopped by the truck during a festival and ordered the Pittsburgh style sandwich with pastrami. The pastrami was good, but there were only two slices. I expect a pastrami sandwich to be packed to the brim, a la Katz Deli. This was my first disappointment. The plain white bread was soggy by the time I arrived home to eat (a five-minute walk), the fries were undercooked (another customer before me was waiting extra long for them to finish), and the coleslaw was weak. Combined, it was a mess. I ate maybe half because I was extremely hungry, but I did not end my meal satisfied. The service was nice enough and I really want to like and support food trucks. Sorry, but the sammich I had was pretty bad. Granted, I didn't try one of their signature sammiches. I tried the Buffalo Chicken. I'll start with the positives: Italian bread was soft and fresh. The fries were tossed in an excellent hot sauce. The 'blue' cheese was good. However, the neagtive outweighed the positives by far: The chicken breast itself was cold and just wasn't tasty. You could tell it was pre-cooked and taken out of a cold fridge, and they didn't take the time to heat it up enough. The chicken breast was also tough, didn't taste grilled at all, and was poorly spiced. Here's a tip guys. You have a fryer, why not use breaded chicken fingers instead of grilled chicken, and deep-fry them when ordered? Guaranteed to be hot and fresh tasting, and more authentic.... read more

They were part of the Food Truck Rodeo at the Public Market and they were my last option that accepted CC as I had expend all my cash at a non worth cart/truck. I ordered one steak and one chicken Sammich. I was completely surprise of how big it was and the kick of the sweet coleslaw and to top it off fries in between!!!! Heaven. I was satisfied with my recent meal from Roc city sammich. They were set up at Party in the Park last night and with minimal choices these guys were first on my list. I ordered the chicken sammich. It had good flavor and was big enough! I think I would like to see a different option for the bread but otherwise I was happy. They didn't seem to have napkins available, but I'll let that slide too. I was thrilled that they are participating in the University of Rochester tasty Tuesdays events. I sampled their standard sammy. The stuffing of our wich was unevenly dispersed, and the halves were unevely sliced resulting on some food envy on my part. Some how the not so seasoned coleslaw on my half ended up on top of instead of inside the sammwich. Nestled in some crusty, biased cut, frenchy sort of toasted or grilled bread was nice salty pastrami, accompanied by some fries, overall pretty dry offering though. Joe and his team are fabulous! We reserved the food truck for my son's grad party in July. (It was Joe's bday and he still came to serve.) Everyone raved about his menu and said it was the best food of the grad-party circuit! We loved it so much we called him back to reserve a truck for a retirement luncheon this past September. This place has fallen from a place that I used to refer everyone to, to a place that's average at best. Their Texas Toast used to be golden like on a grilled cheese, but now it's plain white with black marks on it. Their fries used to be crispy, but now they're just flimsy. Oh, and they used to pile the meat on. Today I got a French fry and slaw sammich, with a little pastrami sprinkled on. I miss this place in it's prime. My company has been working with Roc City Sammich since last summer to have them come out during lunch hour. Last summer, they were wonderful. We really enjoyed the experience of having them come and to give us a different option for food. But over the course of the year, their service has failed completely. The majority of the time that they are scheduled to come, they do not show, stating 'mechanical problems'. If this happened once or twice, I can understand, but at this point, it's happened so often that we all just expect them to not show. I know we are a smaller group of people than they are probably used to in the city, but we are still paying customers who, once upon a time, enjoyed their food. Their lack of reliability has really lowered my opinion of them. We know that they have more than one truck, it would be nice if they would stop sending their broken one to us. As of now, we're asking our contact to stop reaching out to them and take our business elsewhere. read more

I would not do breaded over grilled with the chicken as i seen suggested in another review.
