I had dinner with a friend who is a Mexico City native, and he chose Roca because it's an upscale restaurant that caters to locals. It was the only place I went to where there were no foreigners, so it definitely felt like a locals spot.
There is an English menu for food, but I just had my friend order. And we had the following:
- Soft shell crab tacos: deliciously crunchy with the thinnest of tortillas
- Hearts of palm and artichoke ceviche: light vegetarian starter which was the perfect way to begin the meal
- Tuna tostada: thinly sliced tuna on a crunchy tostada
No English menu for dessert, but I again, went with my friend's recommendation. He suggested that I try the following two desserts which are different from what I would be able to get at other restaurants:
- Guava and cheese dessert: this dessert was a combination of savory and sweet with the guava as a more solid gelee/jelly on a mild cheese
- Flour tortillas with dulce de leche with a side of cinnamon ice cream
To drink, I ordered the Paloma. There wasn't a drink menu in English but the Paloma is a classic.
The OpenTable reservations on their website are for the bar area, so be careful when making reservations.
