This is by FAR my favorite Beer Festival in the area! So brace yourself because it is biased review time!
First and foremost...this.is.NOT a walk by and in festival. You MUST have an event ticket. At the door admission is not available because tickets ALWAYS sell out. I wouldn't have it any other way. There's nothing worse than an over packed event with long wait lines for tastings. This is a big event with ample but just availability in tickets with large tents to accommodate people a plenty. No need to get your chonies in a bunch for being denied entrance the day of because you didn't have a ticket. This isn't 'one of those' overpriced beer expos.
The highlights of this year's expo, for me:
Roc Brewing Co. --I thought I was a huge fan of their Badass IPA (6.8 ABV)...that is until I tried the newly released WHOOPASS IPA (8 ABV); An imperial/double IPA with flavors of grapefruit rind, tropical fruits, and pine. Hops used are Cascade, Nugget, Zythos, Apollo, and Chinook. This one really packed a punch of flavors and hop. Also released was Sassypants (5.8 ABV); A balanced Belgian-style saison, fermented with tropical fruit and finished with fresh jalapeño. Close to the Belgian Blonde as far as style but with a kick of spice in the finish.
Galaxy Brewing Co. --OH-MY-IPA-GODDD. The most dangerous IPA has been bestowed upon me and I am scared to indulge carefree like. Galaxy really brought it to me with their Valence Triple IPA (10.8 ABV!!!); Belgian style triple aged in whiskey barrels. This IPA was smoother than a fresh jar of skippy and softer than a baby chicken. This is the kind of treat you need a field trip buddy for. I mean, in all seriousness, you never know what journey this deceiving creeper will take you on. It practically has its own white van. You will need that partner to pull on the ties and anchor you back! As I type this I am orchestrating a plan to have another taste...just...one...more...sip. OKKK, jokes aside, go grab a pint bro. It's delishiz.
Unity Vibration --Have you tried Kombucha? Did you like it? What if I told you...that it can be hoppy? The Triple-Goddess K.P.A. is the love child of a nice cold one and kombucha! From the company: pairs well with: spicy foods, caramelized onions, roast poultry, potato chips, deep-fried foods, citrus or sour fruit. You know what it pairs better with? ME ME ME!!! This tasting left a thirst for a lot more! It was love at first sip. It's gettin' hot out there. Just give it to me.
Another highlight of this festival was Dragon Sweetie baking up some amazing pretzels. My favorite was their soft pretzel with cheese and bacon with a creamy honey dijon mustard. Can they like, have this forever and ever? IDK if I can wait another year to have it. I will pray to the beer gods that they work with Tap & Mallet and serve it daily. Srsly, it's the best marriage since...kombucha and beer :D
