Good bar and a so called brewery located in downtown Rock Island. It has pretty much all guest beers at this point however there's a big selection. Rock Island Brewing is mainly know as an entertainment venue. Lots of live music including karaoke. There's also pretty cheap prices. Came in at night and there was some bad karaoke going on and not much else. It had pretty cheap drafts for $4 on a few. The IPA was a pretty good one. As far as food there's not a lot. It maybe has chips for $1 or so. Greasy food from the kitchen like the usual stuff from a pub. There's wings and those kinds of things. Have to knock it for being a brewery and having mostly nothing of their own on tap, or even in bottles and cans. It's pretty much a lie. The beers they had were good though, and the food is pretty pedestrian for the most part but whatever. read more

Overpriced and mediocre. While the staff are courteous, the owner is aggressive, rude, and cruising for a lawsuit. Owner Terry Titka told me I couldn't come in with my service dog unless she had a vest (she had a clearly marked leash and collar and neither vest nor documentation is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act). He called the police on me after I entered the restaurant anyway. When the police came, they took me outside but finally looked up the ADA rules. The officers apologized to me and told the owner he couldn't throw me out for having a service dog without a vest. But the owner was still extremely aggressive, talking over me, telling me the whole incident was my fault, and that I was extremely rude (I was being super careful to be polite because he was so aggressive and I knew I was in the right. And I was picturing how the ADA lawsuit might turn out.) I ate there despite my misgivings because I felt vindicated, and I wanted to support the waitstaff who were cool to me and looked frightened of the owner. It looks like RIBCO is better known for its music and entertainment but we had a family dinner here around opening time. Restaurant: The interior has some neat old photos and a long bar decorated with old bottles on top. I didn't care for the split side layout though..it limits the flow. The seating here are speak-easy style booths that disengage the patrons. It's on the darker side in here, at their choice, due to limiting the number of lights they turn on and only one small window. Food/drinks: I had the BLT and a Strongbow Dry Cider. The BLT had more bacon than any other BLT I've ever had before, a definite perk. Tasty sandwich but the fries on the side were devoid of flavor. The Strongbow is one of the best cider ales I've ever had. Had a bite of the quesadilla from the app menu, the initial taste is average but the jalapeno's kill any positive flavor in a matter of seconds. The one thing I couldn't get used to here was our booth. No matter what size you are, you have to sit on the edge of your seat to get you arms to the table to eat. Seeing as the seats and table don't move, it really sucks. In the end the food was decent and the beer menu is impressive, but I didn't care for the creature comforts of the place. read more

At one point in time, the Rock Island Brewery Company (RIBCo) brewed their own flavor. Unfortunately, they do not anymore, nor do they serve any bier on draft. However, in its place, the establishment has an extensive collection of bottled biers. Hundreds of flavors and breweries from all throughout the country and world can be found. If your favorite is not available, wait a few months, it may be cycled into the mix. Others have already commented on the food and atmosphere - I visited just for the extensive bier selection, thus cannot comment on the food. Half of the establishment is a restaurant, the other half is a bar. Both sides have knowledgeable, friendly staff. Located in the midst of the "District" in downtown Rock Island, it is part of a revitalization of the area. I was in the area on Tue/Wed night, so the crowd was minimal and subdued. Talking to the security, he stated that RIBCO's weekend live music brings about a large, and sometimes lively crowd, thus the need for his services. Ribco. It is always a toss up between Blue Cat and Ribco. Blue Cat for a chill environment and Ribco to catch up and hang out with some friends while having a beer and listening to some good music. This is a place to go for good specials. Tuesday is Ribco Burger Baskets. $2.00 Burger with your choice of cheese, lettuce, onion, pickle, and mayo. Comes with a drink and side of fries. Overall a cheap meal. Their other selections are good but can be a little pricey for the quality. Tuesday is also $5 long island pitchers. Sometimes they fill it up with too much ice, but on a good day can pour about eight cups. Thursday is $0.50 drafts. You would think at this price it would be terrible beer but they serve Bud Light and Dundee's Honey Brown. Not bad if you're walking in with only five dollars. So SO SO many beers! They just designed a new menu, which is mostly burgers and baskets, but the coolest thing is you can substitute a black bean vegan burger for any of the special burgers, so I got that with portabello's on it! It was fantastic and huge! The side was large too, chips and salsa could have been 2 sides it was so good! Last night I played a show here and I have to say the staff is second to none from bartenders, to wait staff, to sound man, door guy, and manager were all super polite and kind! The bathroom could have used some attention as the night went on but other than that, this is a great place to hang in down town rock island! And they serve food late! read more

They have great beer and burgers. I go on Tuesdays when there's the $2 burger basket special... also $2 Long Island Iced teas. The atmosphere is very chill. I like that you always have the option to go outside with your drink because it sometimes gets too dark/loud inside. In my experience, the bands that play are generally pretty good, and the staff is friendly. The only complaint I have is that it sometimes gets too dark. I'd also recommend going earlier in the week if you aren't drinking to get shwastey because from Thursday to Saturday the place is full of Augustana kids and it's no fun if you're no into that scene. Attended an outdoor concert here over Memorial Day weekend. Have also seen a few indoor shows of local bands. The outdoor space is great. Large crowd but never felt claustrophobic or cramped. Was really impressed with the large beer selection and knowledgeable staff and would come back if I were in the QCs area. Not about the bar itself but saw 2 bands that evening. The opening band was a lot more fun and more of a band than "show" than was the headlining band. Hopefully next year the first band draws as large of a crowd to take over the prime last act spot. read more

Five stars for the tap/bottle list and atmosphere, four stars for the food. RIBCO has the most prolific beer list I know of in the QC with a great and ever changing tap selection and 5+ pages of bottle and can options. Bartenders have always been friendly and service has been great. If you go on a week night, it's normally pretty quiet and is a great spot to catch a game. Let me start with a big fat disclaimer- contrary to the name and the way they subtly advertise their business- Rock Island Brewing Co is not its own brewery. Immediately this was a 'strike one' against them. I went in with a group of guys who love their beer and were excited to check out the local flare. So you can imagine our surprise when a 'Brewing Co' didn't actually have their own brewery. The name is derived from the company that originally owned the building and did brew their own beer... back in the prohibition era. Needless to say it's been a while since they actually ever manufactured their own beer selection here. Just a fair warning to anyone visiting who does want to try out a local brewery- the Blue Cat Brew Pub (about a block away) does have their own beers. Even so we asked for a beer list. We were handed 5 sheets of computer paper stapled together with a never-ending list of every kind of beer you could imagine. On tap, in a bottle, in a can. Flavors from all over the world derived from all kinds of plants. The VERY first beer on the list was a 'guava' beer, which the bartender explained to us was one made of a cactus-like desert plant. It was the very first beer listed, so you'd imagine that it'd be very popular. Certainly the bar wouldn't advertise a crappy beer as the very first one they let their customers read on the menu, right? ... Ummm, wrong. We ordered the Guava and it arrived at the table looking like a reddish yellow dehydrated pee drink. One sip and we were totally taken aback. It didn't even taste like beer. It was an oddly sweet- almost wine-ish drink. And I'd imagine anyone expecting an actual beer would be blown away if they ordered that drink on a whim. I also ordered a lemon drop- which was served quickly and STRONG. It was by far the strongest lemon drop I'd ever been served in martini form. They packed it with vodka, which upped them a star from me. They definitely know how to mix their drinks, and I appreciated that. The bartender was okay. She didn't seem too interested in catering to the customers or partaking in idle conversation with people sitting at the bar. She spent a lot of time on her phone unless you specifically called her over- or she saw your drink was empty. There is a long bar area and booth seating on one side of the bar. The other side features a dance floor where live music plays. I came in at around 10:30 on a Friday and the band had not started playing yet. That just seemed a bit odd to me, as in Alaska bars tend to be very busy by 10:30, and they have the bands blasting at that point. This place was still pretty empty. It was poorly lit- but that's to be expected of most bars. It was clean, though. Overall this place just fell flat. I was expecting so much more out of this place with such an awesome history behind it. read more

Had some terrible experiences here in the past, but the further away the owner is from the business, the better it gets. You won't find a better selection of beers anywhere in downtown rock island or davenport. The new menu as of early 2014 is much improved. They used to be a good lunch spot but closed during the day now. The concert scene is ok, but not what it was 10-15 years ago. Located in the popular district, RIBCO seems to be the staple of all the bars there. They feature live music or a DJ TH-SAT and charge a pretty small cover those days (I've never seen it over 5). It gets particularly crowded on Thursdays when they have 50 cent draft night and it seems every Augie student who's old enough is there. The music is usually better Friday and Saturday when they don't have 50 cent beer to attract everyone as I have seen some horrible bands on Thursday, but decent or good ones for the most part. RIBCO serves food during the day and although it's just your typical bar food, it's pretty good and on Tuesday's they have a pretty good deal for burger baskets. The bar also has an often neglected upstairs that has darts and pool for those interested, and although it does have some TVs, unless you are sitting at the bar it's not a great place to watch a game. read more

I have mix feelings about Ribco. They have a great selection of beer and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff, however their food is very low quality and over priced ($10 for a frozen 1/3rd lb burger and fries, and don't forget Rock Island has increased tax on restaurants). My disappoint for Ribco comes from the poor behavior I have witnessed on several occasions by the owner. Although he has never been dis-respectable to me personally, I have witnessed multiple occasions where I disagree on how he handled situations with customers, which have all ended with him raising his voice loudly over what appeared to be minor infractions. I have difficulties comprehending any situation where a bar owner should escalate a situation, and there has been several times where he has clearly been the aggressor. I enjoy bars for the entertainment they provide, and everyone understands that there will be problem situations every bar, but when I see overreaction from an owner it makes me feel uncomfortable and very unwanted. The bar seems to have less and less people every time I stop in, so I would think ownership would be extremely focused on keeping customers. The other issues with this bar is the general lack of upkeep. The men's bathroom smells horrid however it appears to be cleaned often, I think the smell is derived from plumbing's issues. The city forced the owner to remove their brick wall out back because it was crumbling and unsafe for customers, however for some reason they have not replaced in the last six months or so, and it makes the building look abandoned and really trashy. In all honesty though Ribco is one of the best known bars in Rock Island's District, and I would prefer to spend my money at places that reinvest in making the district cleaner and safer and not one that has given up and worsening the already negative image of the district. If you are in Rock Island and looking for a bar, Steve's is the best dive, the martini bar is very chill with amazing drinks, and all the beer available at Ribco is also kept stocked at Hy-Vee. The new Bent River location has awesome beer and an impressive whiskey selection on top of their brand new, clean facilities. read more

Saw a band here and had a great time. Unfortunately, that's all that was great. Our server was unpleasant and neglected us. The food was, in my opinion, just terrible. We had a party of 5, and truly not picky people at that, but everyone thought their food was terrible. It's bar food, for crying out loud. How hard can it be? My fries were stale and the wrap I had had old lettuce. My husband ordered the Firecracker Rolls and they were unbelievably dry and cooked too long, at damn near 10 bucks. Sister in law ordered a hamburger and wasn't asked how she liked it done...we assumed it would be medium to medium well in that case, and it was charred black. It's too bad our waitress didn't check in on us; otherwise I would have given Ribco a second chance. Too bad! read more

I wish the Karaoke guy on Wednesday nights was a little more efficient with his time so more people could have the chance to sing.
