I moved to Tulsa over a year ago and have been searching for a new stylist spouse. I tried one…read moreabout three times when I got here, but it just didn't work out. I chose Nicole based on her stylist description on the website. She's experienced and an artist in life more than just hair, so I felt she would be able to take control when I told her what I wanted. I'm open for a conversation to get to what's realistic based on upkeep, home styling, and my hair type. I rely on hair stylists expertise and many do not seem comfortable taking the reins on it, even though they should, IMO, since they are the professional. She delivered and then some. She is very knowledgeable. She explains things in a way that you can tell she just knows her stuff and she wants to make sure you understand where you two are going. She puts importance in giving you what you want, but also explaining how it will work based on how much time you want to spend on your hair and upkeep. Since this was our first meeting, I only did haircut (which is more important than color and requires an artful eye to shape, personality, etc), but we discussed color and she's on it. She knows her stuff and I feel super comfortable letting her work on me next time. I've had the privilege of having some really talented stylists coming from California. This salon has at least one talented lady here that I can speak of and they are very lucky to have her!

I visited this salon requesting an Aveda gray lowlight color treatment and a flattering cut. I left…read morewith a very crooked haircut, confirmed by the next stylist who cut my hair, and a color that turned brassy and orange within weeks. I had no way of knowing at the time despite the standard mirror check. I tipped 20% because I always tip and because I had no idea yet what had been done. When I called to address the color issue, the manager was immediately hostile. She later confirmed, without apparent awareness of what she was admitting, that the stylist, Christine, had applied Ash Brown Level 7, not the gray level 4 from the Aveda Demi+ line I'd requested and that Christine told me she would use. The manager even said she didn't know anything about color levels but confirmed that the gray Aveda line was sitting in plain site on their shelf. And Christine applied a completely different product than what I consented to. Had I known, I would have walked out, because I specifically told her not to put brown in my hair because it would turn brassy. I then contacted an Aveda school in Austin who confirmed the wrong products were used and offered to correct the damage themselves. I compiled documentation and research but the manager and the always unavailable owner of the salon refused to review any of it. The salon's offered remedy was to have the same stylist who had lied to me about the products she used, fix the damage she caused. I declined. No way. They considered this offer sufficient. I did not. I filed a dispute with American Express. Only then did the owner contact me, but to berate me. No accountability was taken despite Christine's own admission through the manager. Their refund policy was never disclosed at time of service either verbally or in writing, which they are required to do. They then used my 20% tip to twist things as evidence that I was satisfied. A word of advice: Do not tip your stylist until you are certain they did what they said they would do. I learned this the hard way. Make them show you the actual tubes of color they're mixing. Additionally, roughly two to three months ago the manager appeared in my Facebook feed. I had not contacted this business in well over a year. I found it deeply unsettling that she sought me out on social media long after the fact. Christine's name appears in multiple negative reviews for this business. There is a pattern here. Proceed with caution.

I almost never leave negative reviews, but my experience at Mather Salon on Sept 15 (9 a.m…read more appointment with Todd) was too awful to let go. I was running 10 minutes late due to traffic and called ahead. The receptionist was kind and said they would wait, but I can't help wondering if my poor experience was retaliation for being late. First, the haircut itself was bad (let my picture speaks for itself). I've had bad haircuts before, but this was probably one of the worst -- even worse than the one I once got at a $10 chain salon many years ago. I showed Todd a reference photo, but what I got looked nothing like it. My hair was uneven (clearly visible in the photos), and from the back it looks like a mop. He didn't ask me basic questions -- such as where I part my hair or how much length I wanted -- and when he was done, he didn't even show me the back with a mirror (which makes sense now, because it looks terrible). The service was just as bad as the haircut. While drying my hair, he used such a high heat setting that it burned my scalp -- and even five days later, my scalp still hurts. During the cut, he walked away for 5-6 minutes without saying anything, leaving me awkwardly facing the entrance gate with hair all over my face ( he did not even bother to rotate my chair back to face the mirror). The same thing happened at the shampoo station, where I was left staring at the ceiling, wondering if he would come back. For almost $100 (including tip), I expected a professional haircut and at least decent service with some communication. I regret ever going to Mather Salon. I am also attaching my credit card statement so you know it was my authentic experience.

I have like a big black hole and just did the front in the top and I told him I wanted a light toner and he gave me a yellow gray toner just saying I $330 plus tip go elsewhere. Then I ask him to cut my hair straight across and I wanted the front a little longer than the back and he end up using a curved scissors to cut my hair. Looks like frappe and then they cut the front short. I thought oh my God I've never gone back $330 plus tip is not worth it. Do not go to him. It's just the name his work is not that good

I loved my experience at Silk and with Imani!…read more I love how moody the salon is, I couldn't get over it! No detail was spared, everything is on theme even the bathrooms and I was so impressed! Imani was so sweet, was offered refreshments on arrival, the wash experience even had me feeling like a princess with the stream deep conditioning treatment. I felt so pampered. Imani did my sew in for my wedding and was extremely gentle with her braiding! I'm normally extremely tender headed but half way through I had to stop her and recognize, I haven't flinched once due to her gentleness, that was honestly a first! We had great conversation the whole time, the music playlist was a vibe, and she provided tips to help me take care of my new hair! 10/10 experience overall, thanks Imani!!

This is honestly really embarrassing and upsetting for me to post. I've never left a bad review…read morebefore, yet I am so distraught and upset by my experience I feel like I am left with no choice. I have been severely burned by this salon on two separate occasions, and Imani has refused to take any accountability and apologize, and has even gone as far as to trying to gaslight me and change the story to make it my sensitive skins fault for the chemical burns. I have had relaxed hair for 8 months, and have only had it done by Imani at the salon. It's not cheap to go to her, and I have invested in it because of the good reviews and I genuinely enjoyed my experience and the result of my hair. I was willing to put aside the burn damage because I loved the outcome of my hair and did not want to believe this was intentional or malicious, because I do try to see the good in people and I know that Imani is good at what she does. On February 21st, I went to the salon for a routine touch up of my relaxer. Imani handed me off to a different stylist to be shampooed. This young woman was very careless and clearly had not been trained on black hair. I got back to the chair after my rinse and Imani found clumps of relaxer still in my hair that had not been rinsed out. She sent me back to this same woman, unsupervised, and let her try again at the rinse. She was very aggressive and got globs of chemicals under my right eye, behind my ear, and near my temple. She still did not rinse all the product out, and I had to get back in the shampoo bowl for a third time and Imani rinsed me out herself. I ended up with burns on my skin for two weeks in the places I mentioned above. Then, at my last visit to the salon on May 14th, it was just Imani and I in the salon. She put the treatment in my hair, and then proceeded to leave multiple times to answer the phone when it rang, or disappear into the back room. I expressed my concerns of discomfort, and asked her to wipe the back of my neck because I could feel maybe some extra product got to my bare skin once again. She dismissed me and called it normal, and that it was almost done processing. After the shampoo, the back of my neck was red and inflamed, and she even agreed that it looked bad. She blamed it on her "scrubbing my skin too hard at the bowl" The next morning I woke up to a large chemical burn on the back of my neck, probably the size of a paper clip. I am only 20, so when I called my mom back home (I am in Tulsa alone for college) she was very concerned and worried because this is now the second time I have left the salon with burns. She called Imani and was very nice, she only wanted to know how we could refrain from this happening in the future, because at this point I am still wanting to continue seeing Imani, and I genuinely believe these have been accidents. She promised my mom she would be the only one touching my hair from now on, she would use extra protective grease, etc. I made a relaxer touch up for Wednesday, July 8th, and Imani called me yesterday, July 3rd, to let me know she no longer felt comfortable doing my hair because "of my skins reactions to the relaxer." There was no apology, no accountability, and no explanation. My appointment was canceled and the phone call lasted 30 seconds. I am genuinely so upset and confused. I loved going to the salon and was even planning on investing in a membership for the fall. Those were only two experiences of going to the salon where I had gotten burned, I have gone there and had no problems with the relaxer at all. Which is how I know it is not an allergic reaction. Anyone's skin would burn with a treatment that strong being left unattended for that long. I never got an apology or an explanation, but instead the story changed and it somehow became my fault on why I was burned. She also said nothing about no longer relaxing my hair when she spoke to my mother in May, she only called me after I made another appointment two days later. Now I have no idea who will help me with my hair, or what I will do in the future. Silk is a luxury salon that promises a luxury experience and results. I did not get that on two occasions, and instead of any accountability or remorse, I was met with defensiveness and rude behavior when I was only trying to get my hair done. I am very upset by this, and I would urge any younger people who are maybe shyer like me or inexperienced with their hair to not go to Silk. Because clearly I was mistreated and taken advantage of, and they did not even have the decency to apologize.
