I've read the reviews here on Yelp for Rock Solid and I'm a little bitter to be honest. I've been with Rock Solid Internet since they've brought their services out to the Castroville area basically. When I initially got installed with RSI I was searching for months prior (almost a year) for reliable high speed internet as the cellular / mobile internet providers are horrible out in my area. If I happen to get cellular service here near my house is spotty at best. I am a web designer and I needed a high speed connection that would last and would not give me a data limit. Rock Solid is the only company in the Castroville area that provides such a service, let alone at that price. I am currently on their (up to) 15mbps connection (Top of the Rock). I am an avid "speedtester" and my connection averages in download speeds from 10mbps to 15mbps on the dot. This is typical and acceptable for the package I am on as it is advertised as "up to 15mbps" and their firewall system gives you an initial burst rate of 15mbps and then slowly degrades to a set amount thereafter depending on usage. Like I said I'm a web developer and I completely understand their reasoning behind their "variable speed" setup as this keeps "abusers" from overloading the network. In comparison to other ISP's this is a great feature. I was previously with HughesNet (DirecTV's satellite internet service) and they would basically turn your service off instead of the "slowing it down". I would hit my download limit monthly on HughesNet and drop down to a speed that was literally unusable (slower than dial-up service). Over the years I've gotten a chance to meet quite a few of the owners, managers and technicians for RSI and you will not find a group of people happier to provide you internet service and do their job. I'm not going to say that our service has never been down or that it has never experienced an outage but RSI is always on top of it right away and the problem is usually fixed within a few hours. What people have to understand is that all Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs), not just Rock Solid, rely on wireless equipment to provide services to their subscribers. This equipment (especially at the heights they sometimes have to be installed at) can easily attract lightning strikes and voltage irregularities. Over all though, their equipment (at least from my experience) has held up extremely well regardless of weather and / or power outages. Our service has been out the last few nights, but I personally confirmed that our outages were due to two major power outages in the Lacoste area (which is where their NoC is located). They did call me 2 weeks ago to let me know that they are in the process of redesigning their power management system at the NoC, so this was to be expected, at least on my part. read more

I've had the service for over two-years. What you should know: 1) Service is dependent on whether there is line-of-sight view of a cell tower from the roof of your home. 2) Service goes down, on average, about 1-2x per week, during the evening, usually, for short periods (05-10 minutes +/-) 3) Customer service (tech support) is very difficult to reach. I've held for long periods, and when I've opted for a "save my place in line" call-back, I don't get a call-back. Yesterday, I held 33 minutes before their system disconnected me. So I called back and chose "new customer" and my call was answered in eight minutes. The customer service person was very nice. 4) I inquired about the outage, which was in its third hour at that point, and the call-taker, who, as it turns out, covers incoming calls for both technical support AND new customers, still had NO CLUE what caused it or when it may be fixed. How could Rock Solid customer service not have some information from their "boots on the ground" folks by hour three?! 5) Rock Solid apparently does not have built-in redundancy to avoid or mitigate such outages, with their "hub" tower located in Houston, TX. Houston usually gets hit hard when hurricane season sends one into the Gulf of Mexico. ** This was a statewide outage due to Hurricane Beryl, which damaged a tower in Houston that also "took out" Spectrum Mobile yesterday. 6) A crucial difference between Rock Solid and Spectrum was that Spectrum released a statement to its customers and to the media. Rock Solid didn't notify customers by any means, even though (they) have: a) A website that remained up and running during the outage b) Every customer's email and phone number on file - for notifications c) The option to issue a press release, as did Spectrum and other providers d) The duty, in my opinion, to keep their customer service personnel informed AND up-to-date, as this maintains customer confidence; and e) The duty to have in place a GOOD manager that is not too busy, or afraid, to call a customer back who requests it. Rock Solid was inconsiderate to their customer base and they've lost my confidence and trust in the quality of their services. Completely. ... I get that a major storm can affect service. We all do. Lives and property were lost, and folks are without utilities in sweltering heat. It's terrible. But folks will understand that It's not a service provider error. Just tell us! Rock Solid missed the mark completely on this opportunity to support and serve its customer base. At this point, it is clear to me that this was just "business and usual" for Rock Solid, unfortunately. Be aware, and explore all service provider options before choosing this one. read more

Update: Feb 2015 - For the past 18 months my service has been great, very few issues. That is until this last week when the same issues from 2013 began to show up again. I called tech support twice and the day after the second call a man named Danny called me and very rudely insisted I was lying and that something was on my system sending out massive amounts of traffic. I told them this just wasnt possible as everything in my house was unplugged including my router. I then offered to have him come to my home and trouble shoot the issue himself for which he said, I will come to your home and take all of your equipment (equipment that I actually own mind you) and told me my service was now terminated. I have messaged the owner about this issue and will update my review once I hear back from him but as it stands I can no longer recommend this company to anyone. Update: Sept 2013 - After a long conversation in shop with the owner and techs my service has been much better for the last 2 to 3 weeks. I will now update my rating from 1 star to 3 star. After a few more weeks this may change to higher. Thanks for the help. For 3 months and over 3 dozen phone calls I have been trying to get what used to be superior internet service back up to even marginal acceptance. I have spoken to Rock Solids Tech support 25 time since June of 2013, I have spoken to a man named Ray about 8 times always with the promise to figure out what the problem is but never getting anything solved. Over the past 3 to 4 years I have been with Rock Solid I have sent them many customers including family and friends because for most of that time they were great helpful and fast. Now I guess they have grown to big and don't care about the problems of their customers as long as the payments keep rolling in. I work on the internet, I am also a graduate student and my wife is a college student and we do most of our school work on the net. For the last 4 to 5 months we have been more dependent on our 4G cell phones then on our home internet because Rock Solid has simply become undependable. I am not asking for money back, all I am asking is that the locate the problem and fix it, I will even pay for new equipment if I have to but I want the problem solved. I would love to recommend this company to friends and family once again but at this point in time there is no way I can see me being able to do and still have a heart. We have had RSI for about a year. We were told we would have 6mgb with a minimum of 3mgb. We would have times with great service but most of the time we had below 1mgb. When we called they made excuses,"updating towers, to many people using the towers, or the standard "it is your router". So we went out and bought a $300 router. The past 3 months our service has been horribly slow .25mgb, .65mgb, etc. We made several calls to costumer service to inquire about the speed issues. They would pass us to tech support only to get NO support. We even offered to pay for a tech to come out and figure out if it was on our end or not. "Michael" called back and told us that we had made to many complaints and was canceling our service, and then hung up on us. Instanting cutting our service off. We never wanted to cancel, just wanted costumer service to help us figure out what was wrong! After reading several other reviews I see it is RSI policy to cancel service instead of providing service. This is a horrible way to run a company. They are on a total power trip. They know for many of us in this rural area, they are the only option for internet. They are bullies and take no responsibility for their lack of service. All we wanted was HELP in figuring out why our service was slow, we were even willing to pay for it. RSI just wants you to shut up, take what they provide, knowing you have no other options. We will be taking this to the BBB and report this to local review sites! read more

I have been with Rock Solid now for 6 plus years and have had only 2 tissues over the years with my bandwidth going to almost nothing and they fixed them both promptly. The first time my antenna at my house died and they replaced it promptly, the second time they set another customers antenna frequency to close to mine and they just had to make a simple adjustment from the office. I have really seen this company grow over the years from when you called them a 10am you could tell you just woke Shane up and he was not sure where he was at to now, I have only been happy with my service and will stay with them as long as they stay ahead of the curve. A lot of people who have Rock Solid complain about he speed but all when pressed tell you they have the basic package which is slow and they also give priority to bandwidth to the higher packages so their discontent is expected. My service and speed has been outstanding for 6 plus years that's pretty impressive. read more

I love Rock Solid. The technicians are knowledgeable and friendly. I thought I was getting less than what I was paying for speed wise... and they figured out that I was using an conflicting channel on my router and I had too many processes running on my computer. They showed me this by having me log into Windows through safe mode with networking and they ran a speed test. Sure enough I was getting consistent fast download rates. I moved here from Georgetown and found out that there are no cable or fiber providers here in Mico. I heard about Rock Solid from one of my neighbors who said he has them and liked their service. I ordered the service but had to wait about 10 days to get it. They seem to be really busy now. I finally got service about a month ago. It is not as fast as the fiber I had in Georgetown but it is reasonably fast and has been reliable. read more

Got their service in 2009. I have been pleased with it. It is fast. I went to a download site (speedtest.net) and got 6.2 Mbps. Their tech support is ok. The 800 number is for a call center in the US (thank God) and they are good for basic stuff. The local staff is VERY good. I had an aircard, and it was constantly up and down. This service is much better. The only time it is down is once in a while in bad weather. read more

OK, let me tell ya something. Rock Solid is the 3rd internet service I have had. And now that I have been with them for 3 years is a blessing. So much trouble with AT&T. And I don't even want to tell you about "Wild Blue". Seems like they were at the house every month. Am I happy with Rock Solid ? You bet. Living in the sticks is as good as it gets. Been with Rock Solid Internet for several months now. We live pretty far from the nearest tower but overall service has been great. Our son is a heavy online gamer and we are all able to use the service even when he is gaming. Sure, it slows down occasionally when we are all online but the same thing happened to us when we lived in town with ATT DSL. read more

I moved to the Mico area about 1 1/2 years ago. I tried several other companies and none were as fast and reliable as this. Netflix works and there are no download limits that were found with my previous ISP. A great company and the customer support has been good when I have had to use it. I have been getting 10 to 20 Megs in speed most of the time. read more

I have had the service for about 4 years. I started out with their 6 Mbps plan and when they upgraded their network in my area, I got their 15 Mbps plan. I consistently get 13-15 Mbps plan, even at night. They were pretty small when they started out, but their tech support is pretty good now. It is also local, which I appreciate. read more

I've had this service for over a year now. Have no problems with multiple devices and gaming system connected. It's perfect especially because I live out in the country and is unlimited where Hughes Net is costly and is not unlimited. I have had very few outages, which were storm related. Once storm passed, back up and running. read more

Still having some problems loosing service but not as bad as before service came & made adjustments to outside equipment. WiFi to my phone is horrible while other devices don't have near as much trouble. On the positive side last time I spoke with service I was treated respectfully & courteously, improved my impression. read more

In the latest storms, my satellite TV went out, but my internet was still on and Rock Solid!!!!! These guys are absolutely great for us. Believe that your location has to have "line of sight" with one of their towers for it to work well- we have that. Our service give us around 80 Mbps speed - FAST - Internet, and it has been up 100% since we got it 6 mos. ago. For us, it has been rock solid. read more

Have used Rock Solid for years. It's been pretty reliable. On the rare occasion that we have an outage, we can call up and talk to an actual person (that's unheard of) at any hour! They can usually walk us through a fix, but if they can't, they fix it the next day. I'd would highly recommend them. read more

Rock Solid provides Phone, Phone system and Internet service for my business. The personal and reliable service blows away the service AT&T provided our store. .If you want a company that hasn't grown to big to deliver great customer service then give Rock Solid a try. read more
