Dear John @ Rock Valley Fence cc: Dawn M. Bengston @ Dane County Fence & Deck, Thank you for the solid-looking, beautiful fence that you installed on 12/13/2024. I would have thought that when RVF sent Dane County Deck & Fence with personal and BBB - A+ recommendations, that it was a sure bet. Perhaps this customer just caught their crew during a bad day. I paid RVF $7200 to install a new fence inside my older one as the neighbors had committed numerous crimes against me with no police action or court protection. Before one section was built, I noticed 4 vertical wooded slats hanging and flapping loose at the top on a neighbor's side. I asked Raoul (sp?) if he could please nail it together with 4 screws. He barked, "That's not in the contract, and I only have do do what's in the contract. I was not hired for this." I reminded him that the customer standing before him was an elderly, totally disabled man in his spine, shoulder and hands and could not turn 4 screws himself to resolve the obvious future problem with the threatening neighbors. He barked again, "I'm not going to do the whole fence. I wasn't hired for this. It's not in the contract." I told him that it was not the whole fence, as I showed and stated, but only 4 vertical wooden slats. He argued, and roboticly repeated himself - with good measure turning his body to face away from me to hide his obvious unreasonableness - and poor business and customer service sense. In the end he said begrudgingly that he's do it. He did not. 4 screws. 4 screws and your previously A+ rated business gets this for a business review from a man who has been a foreign correspondent/journalist in 6 countries over 32 years, including 2 wars. My talents could have been put to better use to add to your otherwise fine online reputation. It only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch. I had even greeted and made coffees for the workers. No thanks needed; how about hello, whenever I passed them. Not one of them ever responded; not one - once. They did not even look back at me. Strange way to treat a man who had just paid you $7200. I hope you shape up your customer relations and teach Raoul to act on the SPIRIT of the law, as they say, not the letter. In the end, it brings better reviews - all over the web. Recently we had a chain link fence installed with a black vinyl coating. We love it and so do our dogs Scott did a great job giving advise on how to install with an electrical box in the corner of our yard. The method of installation they use is great! There was no mess because of the work because there was no dirt removal and it only took a day. The only issue we had with the entire process was we were told scheduling would call us and let us know the date of install but I had to call after a week because I wasn't notified. However the receptionist was super helpful and let me know the install date right away. Would definitely recommend. read more

One of the reasons I picked Rock Valley Fence and Deck to install a chain link fence in my back yard is the positive comments that I heard from previous customers. I was not disappointed. After my initial meeting with 'Scot', I knew I was working with professionals. His suggestions proved valuable and added to my overall satisfaction with the end result. The installation proceeded without a hitch and the fence looked great! However, it is what the team did after the install that I believe needs to be mentioned. Prior to installing the fence, I had to have three trees removed from my back yard. The company that performed this work needed to remove part of a wood fence with gate at the front of my property. Once the job was finished, they reinstalled the fence. Unfortunately, the gate no longer worked properly. At the time the Rock Valley fence and deck team arrived, they noticed this problem. I said that I would need to take care of it. However, once the chain link fence was completed and the installers had left, I noticed that the gate on the wooden fence had been fixed as well! In this day and age, you hope that when you hire someone to do a job, they will do it correctly. It is truly refreshing to find a company that actually does more than what they need to do. Worst fence I have ever had built. Poor quality of materials and overpriced. Rock Valley Fence took advantage of us because we were new to town and in a jam to get our fence installed. I spent two hours picking up garbage from their crew. Salesman Scott was the biggest D-bag ever! Do not use this company! read more

If I could give them 0/5 stars I would. Like the other reviewer, I called twice, within a week and no one ever returned a phone call about a quote for materials or getting work done. Each phone call there was literally a brain dead woman on the phone who is the epitome of rude, and ignorant. They advertise that they sell fencing supplies, yet when you call, the woman who answers says she has no pricing or access to pricing, they have to have a quote and will call back, no call back every, no quote. Maybe I'm stupid, but as a District Manager of 8yrs, if a business advertises that they sell fencing supplies, they should have pricing when you call in, otherwise its a bait and switch, let us do the work for you or overcharge you since your doing it yourself. Here's to the $4,000 pounder I just bought and new account with their supplier of materials. Sometimes the only way to put Aholes out of business is to take their business, which by the way this company operates, won't take long! read more

Not happy! Called for an apt over a month ago, for a simple fence repair. Waited almost 3 weeks for an apt, just for an estimate and the guy didn't even show. Called the office that night but it was after hours, so I left a message. Called again the next day, the lady got my message but didn't call me back because she didn't have me on the books and assumed I called the wrong place. Talk about making you feel like you don't matter. She said she'd leave a note for the other girl to get back to me. Called again the next day and she said they forgot but she had already come out and took pictures. Even though, for the original apt, she suggested the homeowners be present. She said she would send me the estimate via email. A week later still no email. I call today and am now told a price, finally. I asked how soon. At least two weeks and we'd have to pair it with another job because it's so small, so maybe longer. I told her how I'd been given the run around and how I needed my fence to function for an event in two weeks. I needed a time table. She said she couldn't do it in two weeks for the amount she quoted me. I couldn't believe it. I wad floored that I had wasted over a month waiting on this company, who in the end, made me feel like my issues were not worth their time. Unacceptable in the customer service world we live in.
