Rocket Fizz has been around for many years! This place fought tooth & nail to stay in Ventura County. It's moved a few times and they closed the location in Camarillo. I understand rent is significantly high but, inflating candy is not cool. The drink are pretty pricey! It would be cool to see places like this stick to a reasonable price. A boba canned drink runs about $3.29 when I saw these for $1 elsewhere. The boutique candy vibes causes for the price to be higher than normal. The place has a lot of unique vibes! You can find Asian candy (our favorite), sour candy, hot chili candy, tons of taffy ( be aware over priced). You'll find some candy sure for .$59 and other candies on the front table for .99 It's a cool spot to come have your kiddos check out. I do caution to bring extra, extra cash! I love Rocket Fizz and have been to their Camarillo location a few times. (I actually saw the "Tanked" episode that featured Rocket Fizz and their custom fish tank!) I went to their old Ventura location years ago, and then recently drove by and saw that it was closed and vacant. I was very sad and caught some bummed feelings thinking that they had to close up shop. I love flavored soda, Ginger Ale specifically, and bought some from here in the past. Cut forward to last weekend and I am exploring the new Downtown Ventura area on Main Street. Lots of new changes and many restaurants now offering eating outside. It's a really neat set up actually. In my exploring I stumbled across Rocket Fizz and THEIR NEW LOCATION. Of course they had moved! Or rather, of course they (must) have moved. Makes perfect sense! And one of the employees said they get so much more foot traffic now (uhm, hi!) I went in to look around, to look for some chocolate, and just see the neat novelty items. I am a returning customer however yesterday night around 6:15 my fiance and I went in and we typically come at least once a month to get a pickle kit for my feminine part of the month which might be tmi but I picked out a mystery bag with a cute drawing from spongebob on it. Then I get to the car and after paying 19.99 for it I'm so excited and open to the worst candies that I won't eat at all and NO PICKLE. So I'm very sad and have only just left the store so I walk back and say hey i'm sorry this was my bad I thought this was a pickle kit can I swap it out with the right items for the same price. With a very rude tone the female manager with long brown hair said "yeah well it's not labeled pickle kit." insinuating that I'm stupid then she continues "also i believe you guys already left the store so there's nothing I can do to help you." So I just paid 20 bucks for a bag of candy to sit in my pantry and eventually get thrown away and also I have to find another candy store to give my business too which sucks cause I loved Rocket Fizz. Due to the nature of how the manager handled it and the rudeness rather than showing any sympathy or understanding is likely going to prevent me from returning and being in that environment. Very cool drawing on the bag though and I used to love it here if that counts for anything. I came here to buy a bag of various old-fashioned hard candies for a friend of mine. It was $9 for a small bag, which was pretty expensive, but I was able to select individual (wrapped) candies, flavors and types, such that in the end I had probably two dozen different kinds which I would not have been able to do for less than $9 if I'd had to buy regular packages. They also have a large variety of salt water taffy flavors, if that's your jam. They also have various knick knacks that vintage-candy-buyers might like, such as fun aluminum signs and a few small toys. Overall pricey but good quality products. Staff was friendly and polite, even encouraging me to put more candy in my $9 bag so I'd get the most for my money. I couldn't stop thinking about KQN/Kim N., since he loves finding unusual soda and they have the widest variety of sodas I've ever seen, including regional brands like Faygo, Squamscot, and Filberts, Japanese soda and varieties like Torrance Beary that I've never seen before. The soda is organized by flavor. Some of it is kept refrigerated for immediate gratification. Candy wise, the selection is also domestic retro/nostalgic with regional favorites like Idaho Spud. They have Zotz, Pop Rocks (Did you know that Pop Rocks makes chocolate bars? They have that pop in your mouth effect), Giant Sweet Tarts, salt water taffy, old fashioned sours, candy cigarettes, and more. They had free taffy samples by the register. The fun part might refer to the various small toys that they carry - I didn't spend much time looking at those. This candy & soda shop used to be located kitty corner to my daily commuter bus stop, so it frequently captured my attention, particularly when getting off the bus. I'd drop in periodically when craving root beer of which they have a magnificent variety. If you're a fan of old school sodas (and a multitude of candies), check 'em out. Rocket Fizz is the best way to get Dublin Dr. Pepper outside of Texas. The last time I was in here I was rung up by the owner himself. Nice fellow, the place was a little slow and he took the time to "shoot-the-shit" and asked me how my day was going and thanked me for my business. I thought that was a nice personal touch and is something that is mostly missing from retail establishments these days. The selection is impressive and can be intimidating. Dr. Pepper is what I came in for, but when I saw the selections of root beer it was hard to make a choice. I left with 12 sodas, which is $20 give or take. If you are strolling on Main St. it's worth it to walk over a block to Oak & Santa Clara and grab a real soda, with real sugar in a real glass bottle. read more
