I had a chance to try this chocolate store as a Yelp Experience and until then I didn't know about the store at all. I got a Halloween box, that was cute, spooky chocolate and wrapping. This store is a hidden gem full of sweet goodness. ExVoto looks clean and crisp with the white walls and black decor. The case is full of beautifully decorated and hand crafted chocolates. The lady at the counter was very nice and gave us the affogato before we figured out where to sit. Salted caramel ice cream as an Affogato was soo good. Hands down the best hand made chocolates in Ventura County, possibly the best hand made chocolates anywhere. Other than Chocolate Maya in Santa Barbara, I have yet to find anywhere that comes anywhere even remotely close to Ex Voto. They have incredible seasonal flavors rotating throughout the year and the chocolates themselves are so beautifully decorated! Some of my favorites include the meyer lemon, key lime, passion fruit, and apple cider caramel. Since I moved to Ventura a few years ago, my father has become obsessed with Ex Voto - the only thing he wants now for his birthday, father's day, and Christmas, is The Big Box from Ex Voto, which I customize for him. He especially LOVES the "turtles." (See included photo of him holding his box of chocolates lol). The staff are always friendly and happy to let me customize the box to my father's likings. You can really feel the love that has gone into making these beautiful and delectable bites of heaven, and though they are a little pricey, they are well worth it. They make fantastic gifts, even if it is only a few of them. I have not yet had a chance to try their ice cream, though my father is also quite fond of it! We've driven past this place so many times without ever realizing it's there. It's looks so unassuming in the strip mall, but it is oh so good. We actually came here because we wanted to try the coffee, so I can't give a review on the chocolate in its name (except that they looked delicious!). But the coffee was great. We tried the mocha with added caramel, and it tasted like the finest cocoa with espresso. So incredibly delivious. The ice cream, though, oh my god. It was something else. We got the egg nog ice cream, and it was so smooth, creamy, and flavorful. It tasted so fresh (and probably was since they make their own ice cream). I could eat a tub of this in one sitting. My husband and I came out of a little Greek restaurant next-door to this little chocolatier and decided we wanted to have some desserts so we walked in and we were greeted by a very beautiful young lady who helped us and let us try the different flavors of ice cream. I have always gotten chocolates that are really good here, either for myself or as a gift

So I was cleaning up around the house and found a chocolate frog from I had no idea how long ago. I knew I had bought it for my best friend who likes chocolate, frogs, and Harry Potter, but now it had a VERY slight blush on the chocolate. Since I of course could no longer give it to her as a gift I ate it. It was really delicious!! Caramel inside. Anyway I wanted to re-buy a frog for her and saw the packaging said Ex Voto on it. I googled and was surprised and pleased to discover this is a local chocolatier! I went in last week and asked the staff if they had any frogs today. They let me know the frogs are a seasonal item they make around Halloween and for back to school. I told them my tale of finding one of their chocolate frogs the other day. When I told them it was brown with gold dots they said, "Oh that must have been from Sugar Lab." I said, "I don't know, but I do go to Sugar Lab sometimes." The woman let me know that's the only store they had worked with, and that's the color of frogs they had. Last July... so like 9 months ago. lol!! I told them, well despite the time delay, the frog was delicious!! And she let me know that although it's a seasonal item they could also do a custom order of frogs for me if I wanted. The minimum would be 8. So when I know I'm going to visit my friend again maybe I will get her some frogs!! I walked out with a variety of truffles and they were all magnificent. When I tell you this place is amazing, I'm not kidding! So my gf that I was staying with told me I had to go to this place and bring back some chocolate for my family and friends! Can I tell you she understands me bc food = love in my filipino culture! And damned if this wasn't some of the best and most beautiful chocolate truffles I have EVER HAD in my entire life! When I tell you I had to admire each and every truffle as I shared it with my boyfriend bc it looked hand painted. It and tasted as good as it looked too! The lady that was helping me, and I'll look up her name in case I put it in my tip, was so utterly sweet and helpful in picking out my different truffles! She even made a list of what each truffle was with a description! My only regret was that I didn't get a bigger box of truffles!! And while I was waiting for my truffles to be ready I overheard a regular who was raving about their chocolate and told me I should order chocolate bunnies as well (this was during Easter week!). I should have listened to the lady's advice! Hehe... In addition, I think it was the owner offered me a sample of their ice cream as well! Omfg, y'all I wish I got the Ice cream too! My boyfriend and I moved here from Chicago and we have been trying to find a new favorite chocolate place.(our favorite gift to give) we were pleasantly surprised to find this chocolate place on our first try! The first experience here was game over. I didn't catch the girls name, but she was a young girl, with glasses, she was so helpful. All of the chocolate looked beautiful but she was helpful in helping us design our first gift box. They also make little cards to show which chocolate was which. And offered to let us try the ice cream. AMAAZING. Since then, we have been back a handful of times and all pleasant experiences! Recommend: Buddha chocolate is both of our favorites.
