Just tried this place. Its been around for years and never knew it. Plate lunches that taste home cooked. The country fried steak was on point. Long line but the serve very fast and efficient. Kinda noisy with concrete floors and tin ceiling but a fabulous place for lunch. About 15 dollars with a drink plenty of food to fill me up. Steam table was completely stocked and steadily printing fresh out for the servers. Seems to be a more working crowd industrial area to grab a quick good lunch plate. Several choices of protien to choose. May return tomorrow for lunch try another dish! read more

I had lunch today at Rockin' A Cafe. The lunch was FANTASTIC and the prices were just as good. I should have gotten the hint early that this was a terrific place to eat because the majority of their customers are blue-collar men. They serve cafeteria-style and the atmosphere is casual. Today I chose the baked chicken. It was tender and flavored to the bone. The pieces are also large. My two sides were seasoned green beans and cooked carrots with a touch of sweetness. You get a cornbread or roll. I chose cornbread and it was very good. My lunch was $9.43 + tax and worth every penny. Everything was seasoned well and tasted great. I bought two more meals to go for hubby (for today and tomorrow). One was the fried chicken plate (sold only on Wednesday) for $9.43+ tax and a rib plate for $10.50 +tax. When asked if I wanted dark or white meat fried chicken I told them dark. The nice lady told me, "I don't have any more thighs so I will give you three drumsticks." A slice of lemon pound cake was $.50 and the peach cobbler was $1.00. I kid you not. The staff was friendly and the cafeteria was clean. I may have been sleeping on Rockin' A Cafe, but I won't sleep anymore. I hear their beef tips on Fridays are very popular. I will include a menu with my photos. I crave Rockin A Cafe!!! Yummy! My husband and I eat here often. We own a construction/concrete company and are always on the go. When we get together to eat for lunch... it's Rockin A Cafe! Everything is great here. I wouldn't know what to recommend. Everything has a different flavor and it always hits the spot... And let me tell you - the Yeast Rolls & bread pudding - ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!! And to top it off - Affordable pricing! My sons love their mashed potatoes and brown gravy, so when we go, I pick up a large order to-go as a side for dinner. It's a huge tub... for $2!!!! The food here is sooo good. I had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and fried okra. The okra reminded me of my grandparents. It was real okra fried to perfection!! My boyfriend had the smothered pork chops and the same sides as me. The pork chops were so tender they slid right off the bone! And the gravy was amazing! My only complaint was that it was really loud. The workers seemed to forget the restaurant was open and weren't really friendly or helpful with us or our choices. But the food more than made up for that. It was our first time here and we weren't sure how everything worked. Still not real sure but we ended up with some amazing food. Great food and good portions, this place is not a fancy place but very solid comfort food and great service attitude. I had the hamburger steak and it was baked or broiled not pan or plate fried. The meat was juicy and had great flavor with a delicate crust. The rice was good and the green beans were great. The pinto beans were sort of charros beans with meat and spices. Awesome, stick-to-your-ribs home-style cookin'. I've been craving beef tips for months now and today the gods blessed me some lumpy brown goo in a stainless steel tray. I was going for the ribs, but when I found out the slop was in fact beef tips, I went for it. So f'n awesome! It came with mashed potatoes and corn that covered the entire plate and a roll and a brownie. Everything was awesome and it looked like the rest of the menu was just as good. The place was full of content looking, big-bodied customers. I've heard the line can be out the door if you don't get there a little before noon, we got there at 11:30 and got right in the plate assembly line. I've only eaten here a couple of times, and both times it was super crowded, very hot, and they ran out of white-meat fried chicken before we managed to make it up to the food. Of course,the reason they run out of food and are so crowded is that the food is delicious! Definitely arrive early if you want any chance of sampling everything they have. It's also best not to have your heart set on something so that you are happy with whatever entrees are available when your turn comes. I'm still hoping to try the chicken some day! HA! It's good food and plenty of it. I really thought it was good but not great. I went there for lunch and it was pretty busy but the line moved quickly. It is Southern cooking which can be a good thing. I am not a big fan of cafeteria/buffet style places but I make an exception for this one. The veggies are good and the meats are better than average. I usually end up getting whatever meat that is swimming in dark gravy, rice, greens or beans. I have eaten the fried chicken that I rate as very good and as good as any in town.
