The restaurant appeared clean. The service is incredibly friendly and attentive. The chips are good, the salsa is non chunky and not spicy. We asked for a side of pico and added to it and that flavored it up better. The queso was bland and thick, didn't really care for it. The chicken fajita was ok, came out hot and sizzling, it was 4 thicker pieces of chicken rather than the usual strips. The chimichanga was ok. The old Sartins is now Habanero. Beaumont is not a Mexican food hot spot like Los Angeles, or even Houston, but El Habanero has some good offerings with a good atmosphere at a good price. A former coworker of mine told me that he can tell that a Mexican joint has great food if the floor is dirty and you see roaches running around. You don't get that here. But you also don't get an upscale vibe like at Casa Ole. And that's a good thing. It's cleaner than on College Avenue between downtown and the freeway, but it's still on the bare bones side. The focus is on the food. What food? Well, after church, five of us came here and got enchiladas. Four had house enchiladas and sweet tea, I had enchiladas with mole and a Coke (I just gotta be me...). The Hunny really enjoyed hers, didn't say why. For mine, the mole made it a winner: a strong taste to go along with the nicely cooked chicken. Both of us were surprised to see corn mixed into our Spanish rice, added a good taste to it. Be warned: the chips and salsa as an appetizer, the salsa is HOT, and everyone in our party complained that it was too hot. Dayanna really took care of us. Bachata music playing the whole time, and the Hunny laughed when she saw my feet doing the basic step while we were waiting for a table (no, we're not Southern Baptists). And no roaches came to visit. El Habanero is a medium sized place, larger than it looks from the Eastex Freeway, and is on the northern end of what has become a busy part of Beaumont. Personally, I prefer Habanero to Casa Ole, or even Elena's, because it feels more authentic. And the food is really good. read more

Finally found a place to get Menudo and Barbacoa tacos in the Beaumont area!!! My sister in law recommended me to this place after having lunch there awhile back and noticed they had menudo on the weekend special! We loaded up and heard that way! We were promptly greeted and seated. Our waitress came to take our drink orders and asked about appetizers, but we passed on that and went straight for what I came for, the bowl of menudo and two Barbacoa tacos on the side! I began my meal with Ceviche de Camaron. Delicious Gulf shrimp marinated with citrus juices, bell peppers, red onions, jalapeños, and cilantro. I'll be having this again soon, absolutely scrumptious. My entrée was the chicken and beef fajitas, with the beef being my favorite. The beans, rice, and veggies that were the sides came out steaming hot. Just the way I like it. I ordered extra pico because that's the way I roll. The guacamole was fresh and creamy. No complaints about the presentation, atmosphere, service, or taste. I left very happy and extremely full. Great locally owned Mexican restaurant in Beaumont! There are plenty of other places that a lot of people go to that get a lot of hype, but this one is low-key, better food, better prices and homey. My kind of place. Everything is fairly priced, including their alcoholic beverages. I ordered the mixed meat fajitas and they were pretty bomb. I couldn't finish them all in one sitting. A bit watery but, appropriately firm. Needed a bit of crema in the mix to enhance richness. Completely absent was some herb for character. Missing cilantro, which is my fault as this herb is an "ask for" item. I would prefer this reversed, because persons who dislike its flavor are practiced requesting the removal. Potatoes and refried beans are basic. Interesting is that the beans had no flavor other than that of a rehydrated frijole. We got there around noon for lunch and half the tables were occupied and when we sat down and ordered, more people came and filled up the tables. We were brought some chips and salsa before we began to order. The salsa was perfect, maybe needed a little more cilantro for my taste buds. We were given more salsa than any other restaurant so we didn't need to keep asking for more. Waitress came and took our drink order as we looked over the menu. We all decided on tacos except my son who ordered the Coconut Shrimp. My husband and I ordered the fish taco, my parents ordered the Street Tacos (beef) and my other son ordered a kid's Taco. Food came pretty quick. Everything was great. My fish Taco was good, I asked for Flour instead of corn tortillas but as soon as it got to us, the waitress noticed the mistake but we told her it's okay, we will eat it anyway but she still brought us extra flour tortillas. I've had better but it was still good. My parents liked their beef taco but also said they've had better but still good enough to come back. My son loved his coconut shrimp and said it's a repeat for next time. Overall, everything was great. The staff was very friendly and the food was good.
