My fiancée and I had our haircuts here. His hair is extremely thick and curly, but Ty did a great job of giving him a low maintainable yet still stylish cut that complemented his long face. Let's start at the very beginning (I'm told it's a very good place to start). I'm a recent transplant (yeah, join the club, I know) to Denver after having lived in the MD/DC area for 40-ish years. For women, there are two relationships that are the hardest to end: the one you have with your gynecologist and the one you have with your hairdresser. Once you find someone you trust and who you love, finding someone to replace them is an arduous task, at best. So when it came time to find a new hairdresser, I was pretty gun shy. I'd been going to the same person forever and wanted HIM. NO ONE was going to be as good. Not possible. Except ... it WAS. I read scads of online reviews. I combed through Yelp and Foursquare and such with a froth that's normally reserved for rabid monkeys. When I emerged from the Internetz, it was clear that Rockstar Industries was the place I HAD to try. I had my first appointment with Ty about a week ago. The shop is fantastic. Small, intimate ... beautifully decorated, but without a bit of pretention. I needed a cut, kinda, but my main goal was color: I needed to go from kind of a mousy red to BLONDE. And I wanted all-the-way blonde. Ty took great care in finding out what I liked, the kinds of things I'd done to my hair before, all of that. He and his assistant, Matte (who is among the lovelier people I've met since I've been in Denver) took my hair from blah to ba-BAM! I haven't walked out of a salon feeling that good in as long as I can remember. Seriously. I felt like I could take over the world right then and there. And not only was my hair to DIE for fantastic, the whole experience was a blast. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming and hilarious. We talked about food and cocktails and politics and sex and fun and all in the brashest way possible. It was the most fun I've ever had at a salon. Rockstar isn't inexpensive, to be sure, but for me, the price was totally worth it. For once, I didn't look in the mirror and think, "Meh, it's fine." I looked in the mirror and said, "Wow!" I am turning 40 this month and I've never been to a salon before without feeling somewhat ugly in the process -- I figured it was impossible to be beautiful when my hair was wet and covered in tin foil pieces. Ty achieved the impossible. Every moment that I sat in the salon chair was a moment of increasing beauty. Tin foil be damned. Ty is colorful. He's a Scorpio man as well as a talented professional, so there will be no use trying to change his mind or his approach. But that's why we're paying him big bucks. The feel inside the salon is very rustic and classy (great for men and women) and located in a bougie area in Cherry Creek, which is perfect because my husband can take a walk and go shopping with my son while i get my hair done. The staff has lots of experience and talent when it comes to color, style, and cuts, which is a total MUST for the prices you will be paying for at Rockstar Ind. I booked an appt with the owner Ty, he kind and funny, that , & I felt well taken care of with magazines and cappuccino. The staff was very time conscious and respectful in that matter, and always in communication with the next step, not just leaving me under a dryer with out any expectations. I will go back. I called the next day to try out this amazing little thing called spray tanning! I have to say, I was a bit taken back about what to do... Undies, no undies... I absolutely love this place! I used to always cut my hair and I was always afraid of salons that may sway your opinion of how you want your hair to look. Ty was very helpful , patient and understanding. I've always had short hair and wanted to go a little longer but I knew I didn't have time to style my hair much or spend much time managing it due to a very busy work schedule. Ty instructed me to grow my hair out a little longer and so I did. I returned and he put me with Austin and gave Austin the rundown of my lifestyle. Austin knew exactly what style to give me. After about a half hour I had a new look that wasn't a college looking shaved head but yet a professional but still fun older cut. I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing Blanc (now called Rockstar Industries and located at Third and St. Paul in Cherry Creek) is. I seriously do not think I ever knew what a good haircut was until I stepped in this place 2 years ago. My VERY picky mother in law first started going to see Ty at Blanc when they first moved to Denver. She is pretty stylish and I thought she had a great haircut before but it was absolutely nothing compared to what it looked like afterwards - seriously, she could have been a model if anyone hired models who were over 50 years of age. When I saw how great they could make a 55 year old woman look I had to try it out. Wow, seriously? AMAZING. Kyle is the BOMB!!!!!! I had salon baggage before I started going to her - you know, too many bad experiences with those stylists that never listen to a word you say and then you end up with a really bad haircut? I actually like going to the salon now and no longer feel like I'm sitting in a dentist's chair when I'm getting my hair cut. Now, I just tell Kyle to do whatever she wants because I trust her, and I always walk out looking great. She also does my hi-lights which look so natural and like they're just part of my natural hair color. This is an assessment of Matte, with regard to my blowout/style before my engagement photos. I was stuck in the abysmal Cherry Creek traffic and got to my appointment nearly 15 minutes late--and had to be out of there by a certain time, in order to make it to Red Rocks for our photos. Matte is the literal bomb. With no time to actually wash my hair prior to blowing it out, he put some stuff in it and went to it. I asked for "hippie-dippie-i-don't-care-waves" and that was exactly what I got. I got compliments on my hair leaving the salon from a total stranger walking her dog, and DURING our photos from other strangers gawking as I sat on rocks and tried to look natural. The very first time I met him he took a hard look at my scalp to figure out everything about how my hair grows. Only after that did he start cutting, and I have been seeing him ever since. I called yesterday evening after getting my hair butchered at another salon. Austin was awesome and got me in this morning when I was available even with staff being out of town and calling with such short notice. I arrived for my appointment and the salon is super clean, bright, and overall awesome. I loved the huge wooden framed mirrors. Austin greeted me when I walked in and listened to what I wanted, I showed him what I thought was wrong with my hair from the day before, and he told me exactly how he was going to fix it. I have layers where I shouldn't but he blended everything and made my hair look amazing again. I guess its a lesson learned to ask the price before booking but I just assumed it wouldn't break the bank since all my men's haircuts at a salon have been $40 to $60 range. I moved to Denver from FL almost a year ago and have been terrified of getting my hair done by someone I don't know and trust. (I've been going to my girlfriend in St. Petersburg, FL for years, I'm sure some of you know the feeling!) When I finally became more scared of my roots than I was of getting a bad hair stylist, I researched as much as possible before deciding on Rockstar Industries Inc. The reason for me choosing this small, intimate spot was the reviews. So, if you are debating on whether or not you should try this spot, let me add one more excellent review to their repertoire. I scheduled an appointment about a week in advance. I asked the receptionist who she recommended, she gave me a price range, and I chose Austin. The stars did not align on our first TWO scheduled appointments! (Once because of the torrential downpour that was happening a few weeks back, and another time because of stupid work.) I've worked at a salon as a receptionist before, so I remembered how harsh the stylists were when people reschedule appointments.... especially TWICE. Thank goodness Austin was so sweet and warm. I got there 30 mins before my appointment thinking I would have to wait, but I was taken right in! After being walked to the back by the lovely receptionist and being handed a smock to put on, I sat in Austin's chair and started talking to him like we've know each other forever. I needed some good advice....I was initially planning on going BRIGHT RED, (Rihanna red!), from an ombre job done in FL 3 months ago on a visit. (Dark on top, light on bottom.) He was straight up and told me it would be A LOT of time and money if I wanted to be THAT red at the end of that day. He suggested starting to go lighter now and make it a process over a few months. I agreed that it would probably not be the best thing for my already color treated hair and appreciated his advice. He gave me the best highlights and cutest cut I've had in awhile. Not to downgrade my girl in FL, but I walked in there not knowing WHO I was about to encounter, and I'm so happy it was Austin! Granted, I payed about $100 more than I'm used to paying, including tip, but I still think it was worth it. I'm convinced that Izra Tadesse is the best stylist in Denver. Izra has been doing my hair for the past 10 years (my first and only long-term stylist relationship!) and still manages to impress me with his talent and versatility. He has an amazing ability to translate the vague descriptions of what I'm looking for into reality and always has great ideas. He, without question, does the best blowout in Denver. I never look better than when I leave his chair. On top of all this he is so much fun to be around and is so sweet. I trust Izra so much that I had him style me and my entire (massive) bridal party for my wedding (and he styled my engagement photos-clothes and all). He is insanely fast and everyone looked perfect, beautiful, and natural. None of that wedding helmet hair!!! He made what could have been a stressful day super fun. I don't even know where to begin this review. I love this place. I want to go back and hang out with the stylists, with or without getting my hair done. They are such cool people and really know what they are doing. Nestled in Cherry Creek North across from Cucina Calore on St. Paul, Rockstar Industries is the salon you hear whispers about from your "cool" friends who have excellent hair. You instantly feel chic going to a place called Rockstar Industries, and then when you actual arrive you are instantly welcomed and loved by the stylists. Ty, the owner is a blast. If you decide to get styled by him (which you should, the man knows what he's doing), expect a constant stream of witty and swear word riddled banter throughout your appointment. Just don't get him started on politics, it's his most favorite topic to debate. All the stylists are wizards with hair and you will leave feeling extremely satisfied. I have my sister to thank for bringing me to Rockstar Industries. I tagged along to her cut a few weeks ago and Ty started talking me into doing something with my hair and now I have highlights. The first hair color in my life! He was pretty excited about taking my hair color virginity. I am still freaking out about it but I do love it. I have been to a few other salons in Cherry Creek and they don't even come close to my experience at Rockstar. That being said, if you are looking for a quiet, conservative salon with soft spoken stylists and Enya inspired music, look elsewhere and know you are missing out. Rockstar Industries is not your grandma's salon with its club/dance music, chic furnishings, and bold graphic art, and that is what makes it so awesome. In brief: Ty did an ok job with my cut, a terrible job with my color, and was rude throughout. I will say that I have had no experience with any of the other stylists--from the reviews on Yelp, they may well be awesome. Just don't get your appointment with Ty. The long story: When I came in Ty asked how I had found them. I said Yelp, and "people seem to love you on Yelp!" He said "Not everyone." Then he spent the next 45 minutes ranting about how much he hates Yelp and everyone who uses it. I wanted highlights in an alternate color and I had called ahead to make sure they had the brand/color I wanted. They did and Ty started on the bleach. He was sloppy, tugging at my hair roughly, and the bleach was far away from the roots. When he was ready to put the color in, he said, "I'm just going to use the bowl, that'll be easier." I didn't know what he meant--the mixing bowl for the dye? Well, of course he should use that. No, it turns out he didn't feel like brushing the color into my hair. So instead he just mashed it onto my head over the washing bowl, splattering my face and ears with color and staining my scalp. Thanks, if I wanted all that I could have done it myself. After a few minutes of having me awkwardly sitting next to the bowl trying to balance my hair on top of my head without any clips or plastic cap, and without putting me under any heat, he decided I was done. He asked another girl to shampoo me. She was also rough and pulled my hair HARD. I couldn't wait for it to be over. She was finally done and I waited, dripping, for him to be done with the other client he had started I between. (Yes, I had had an appointment.) When he wandered back by, he said that he didn't like the way the color was taking and that he was going to do it again. He blamed it on a bad batch of color (yeah, right) and tried to play it off like he was such a perfectionist. Not that he had he hadn't left the color on long enough and hadn't put me under any heat. He again mashes the color onto my head, and a few minutes into it I notice that it is burning my scalp. Just when I am about to voice my concern, he notifies me that, without telling me ahead of time, he had switched to an entirely different color and brand, this one permanent while the other had been semi-permanent! He said it would be just what I want--in spite of the fact that what I _wanted_ had been the color I have been using for years. The color ordeal finally over (with another painful shampooing and this time with a scalp that burned) I went back to the chair for my cut. Now that Ty had burned out on his Yelp tirade, he began gossiping about and insulting the other client he had been working with who had just left. Funny that he doesn't like customer feedback on Yelp, but is happy to shit talk his clients to his own customers practically before the door has finished closing behind them. This new topic of vitriol kept him busy for the remainder of my stay. The cut was ok. It wasn't quite up to the standards I'm used to, but that's what happens when you move and switch to someone new after years. He didn't really take the time to listen and understand what I wanted like I would have preferred. But it turned out to be in the ballpark of what I was hoping for and people said it was cute. My biggest complaint was that it didn't take long for it to look terrible when it grew out just a bit. The color also looked alright, even though it wasn't what I wanted. I had wanted blue, this was more green. It didn't last long and the roots were faded almost immediately. To his credit, Ty offered to fix any issues I had with the color free of charge especially if it faded quickly. Of course, I had no desire to go back after such and unpleasant experience. read more

Blanc the Salon is the only truly fashion-forward salon I have been to in Denver, (not to say I have tried them all, but I have lived here my entire life). While there are salons in Denver that will give you the run-of-the-mill short-in-the-back-long-in-the-front and certainly dozens more that still offer "the Rachel," Blanc the Salon was exhibiting the female-faux-hawk at the same time it was in fashion, which is something to be reckoned with in Denver. Not only are the staff some of the friendliest and most well-styled you will find in Denver, the space itself is magnificent and often preparing for nighttime fashion shows. I have made the mistake of getting my hair cut at other salons in Denver even after discovering Blanc to save on cash and never will I make the same mistake. read more

I had had the same length hair for 20 years, and also have done a lot of hair modeling, so was pretty discerning with trying a new stylist. I have never had the same haircut... I've been going to RS for about a year now and I got my hair colored by Gretchen yesterday and I think it's the best color I've gotten. I showed her a pic of what I wanted but it was also kind of out there so she did a varaiation of it that looks gorgeous. I am still looking at it going how'd she do that? She puts this shine stuff in after she washes my hair too which is a nice touch. I see Kyle for my cut and she always shows me how much she is going to cut before she cuts, and once I told her I wanted some bangs and she did it gradually so I wouldn't freak out. I usually just tel her to cut it like her hair is cut because hers looks so darn good. And now I get my skin taken care of by Kelly. I have never had microderm and now am addicted. It sort of sucks your skin while it exfoliates and I love the feeling during and the way it's changed my skin because I am getting older and am gonna fight it! And then she spray tans me which makes me feel instantly great about my bod. It's located in Cherry Creek but I never feel like I have to get dressed up to go; it's a very easy place to hang out and Ty (owner) will probably come over and make you giggle during your service.
