Great chocolate cannot make up for the poor customer service. One of the workers was helping me with a box of chocolate covered strawberries wrapped in a heart shaped box. A customer behind me was attended by another worker. Instead of helping me complete my order, the worker who was helping me thought it would be a great idea to stop what she was doing and for whatever reason help out the customer behind me who was ordering the EXACT same thing as I was. I was so shocked by this, I didn't know what to say or how to respond. I do not mind waiting, but it is the principle behind it all that makes this situation so frustrating and infuriating. I ended up letting this slide. That happened yesterday. Today is Valentine's Day night and I figured they were sold out on chocolate covered strawberries, so I called the store to find out. I was certain they were but I figured no harm in checking. Whoever answered the phone proceeded to chuckle and nearly bust out laughing at me as she responded to my question. I originally loved this place's chocolate products enough to overlook the high prices and many of the apparent flaws. But enough is enough. Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of their bear cub apple. It has white, milk and dark chocolate. I'm not a fan of nuts and peanut butter so it's one of the few apples that doesn't have either of those. I have eaten so many that I've gone through 3 (buy 9 apples, get one free) stamp cards. The last time I bought one of these, to my horror, I discovered that they had hidden a layer of walnuts under the chocolate. You couldn't even see it under all the chocolate, which is why I felt safe buying it in the first place. What if I had a nut allergy? I did not buy a different apple. I bought the bear cub apple. I hope they're not trying to cheat their customers by putting less caramel and/or chocolate on their apples. However, this alone isn't their biggest problem. Rewind to several months ago, I came here two nights in a row around 8:45 (with store hours until 9pm) to find them closed. I was very upset by this because there was no sign on the door that indicated an early close. Fast forward a couple months and I go again, this time, 45 minutes before closing and the employee working has the open sign off again. She is still in there and I try the door and it's locked. I knock and she comes the door and says they're closing early today due to "personal reasons" (taken verbatim). After this, I called to complain and asked for the manager after a lady answered. She very rudely said she was the manager. After I explained the problem, she apologized that their hours weren't correct on their business hours sign and that she was sorry. They gave me a 10 or 15% discount on an apple or a free apple if I bought 4 apples (which is ridiculous for a single person and $8-10/per apple - I'm not buying $40 worth of apples). After this, I figured this problem would be taken care of. When I came tonight, I came at 9:09. Instead of fixing the problem, the business hours sign has been completely removed. Both Google and Yelp indicate that they close at 9:30. The lights and the open sign were off and at 9:11, I saw the employee leaving and locking the door. This is completely unacceptable especially AFTER I called the manager about this. Either the manager needs to update their hours on the Internet, post actual correct hours on their storefront, or fire all the employees that are leaving before their shift ends. TLDR; the store has repeatedly and consistently closed early with no warning (and not on holidays) and beware of their apples containing things they shouldn't. They have lost a very loyal customer. read more

I love chocolate, more specifically chocolate-caramel covered apples, so Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is my heaven. After waddling out of Houlihan's because we ate far too much, we had to walk past this place to get to our car. After seeing the giant chocolate covered caramel apples and cherries in the window, I had to stop in. The two young girls working behind the counter greeted me as soon as I entered. They were very nice and asked if I needed any help. When I responded that I just wanted to stare and drool at all the goodies, they kindly let me know what new items they had and showed me their most popular candy covered apples...CHEESECAKE APPLES! Oh lord. This place had chocolate covered everything, but aside from the stuff behind the glass cases, they had really great gift baskets and other items to bring to parties and events. They had the cutest chocolate dipped pretzels that were made to look like a tuxedo and a wedding gown and cute caramel covered apples with graduation caps on that read "2014" in icing for graduation parties. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars is because they really didn't have any great deals going on (they never do) and they are pretty expensive. I would never pay what they are asking for their chocolate covered strawberries or cherries because it's absurd for something so small, but their giant chocolate covered apples are a completely different story! read more

This is a clean store. We stopped in this weekend and much to my delight, they were having their 4 for $20 apple sale. There were no other customers in the store, yet the clerk seemed rushed to see us leave. We asked to have one of the apples sliced, and when we tried it later that evening, we discovered that she had not cut through all the way, making it hard to handle. None of these things are a big deal, but a little better service would go a long way. Kind of disappointed. Walked up to door and reached my hand out for the handle LITERALLY just as employee was walking up and pulling up a chair to turn off light for open sign. Wanted to get my wife something nice because she's been very sick lately and we had a death in the family on top of it. As a local business owner myself, I would've stayed past my normal time for the extra 5 or less minutes instead of turning the customer away. Yummy! What a treat! We got mint chocolate bark. After I ate mine, I kept thinking about it and wanted another. I have eaten my husband's. .... yet... We also got a chocolate covered toffee bar. Very good. These treats would be great to give as a little gift. Prices are high but not unreasonable. You pay by the pound, just like when you get meat from the meat market, so when you buy one bar, you pay the part of the pound. It came out to about $4 per treat. read more

I see that there are other locations in the area but my first experience with this shop was this location. As its the only one I've visited, it feels like its not a chain. Does that make sense??? It feels like my personal, tiny, conveniently located chocolate shop. My chocolate, caramel apple cravings started when someone at work had an apple for lunch, back in the fall. Apparently, I said a little TOO much about how delicious it looked and where was it from and why did they get it and how much was it and on and on because they finally gave me the rest of the apple just to hush me up. It was delish! :) One or two slices wasn't enough and so I went to get a whole apple for myself...a couple of times! And then I got a gift for my Grandad and my mom and a friend. Tonight I decided it had been a while and so I'd stop in for dessert. Each time, the apples are crisp, the chocolate is tasty, the service is friendly and fast and I don't have a complaint. I suppose its a little pricey when I think that a regular grocery store apple and a bar of Hershey's from the checkout line would maybe be $2 with tax...but this way I don't have to make it myself...If they had a drive thru window, I would be back much more often! Well I bypassed sending in this review when it actually happened back in April but we bought 4 caramel apples of different assortments. This cost us as we all know a small goldmine since I think they run almost $10 a piece. The first apple no problem... the next one was mushy and mealy and then when I saw that I cut into the next one just to check and the same disaster. I've never returned food before but I was mad. So we brought back three apples and asked for our money back. Then we got this coupon for a free assortment of chocolates that started this past Monday. It says while supplies last. Well we went in on Tuesday morning and they said they ran out. Seems to me like you don't really run out of chocolate when that is what you make. I think it's a scam that they didn't honor this coupon on the second day of the promotion. Should have made the coupon say- to the first 20 customers or something like that. So I did not have a yelp account prior to this, but I felt that my trip here deserved a good review. I went into the store wanting one single chocolate covered strawberry, I didn't see any anywhere and come to find out the woman who walked into the store a couple minutes before me (and was just checking out at the time) bought them ALL. They told me they were completely out, and asked how many I needed they could place me an order for the next morning if I needed them right away. (they only make them in the mornings) The woman I spoke with her name was Lisa and she was SUPER nice, when I told her I had just wanted one, she told me she could go in the back and make me one really quick. It only took about 5 minutes, and she came out with my chocolate covered strawberry, wrapped it up and took the time to put a cute bow on it and make it look nice and place it in a box and wrap another bow around it. 5 stars because the chocolates are great, and the customer service is excellent at this store!! read more

A little disappointed store was not open when I arrived at 6:15 p.m. tonight. Sign on the door indicated they closed early at 5 p.m. due to weather conditions. It's now 6:15 p.m., the roads are perfectly fine, and the temperature is above freezing, and will remain above freezing all through tonight. In all fairness, around 3pm today, the side roads, sidewalks, and driveways were icing over. However, by 5pm temperatures were above freezing and the roads were perfectly fine. Also, every other retailer in Naperville crossings is open, except for Rocky Mountain Chocolate. Holy crap, the white chocolate dipped oreos. They're proof that there is a *insert personal diety here* and that s/he loves us very much. And wants us to be happy. Rock Mountain Chocolate Factory is right by the intersection of 59 and 95th in Naperville, right by the Showplace 16 movie theater. Me and my choco-holic significant other go here a lot to nurse our addiction, usually starting and ending with the dipped oreos and milk choclate truffles. Their fudge is also phenomenal. (Get the grasshopper: also proof that a high power wants me to go forth and prosper.) One thing that is nice is that they have an extensive sugar-free menu, which is super thoughtful and equally as delicious. All in all, if you're in the area, make a trip to Rocky Mountain. It was a delight of chocolate heaven inside. I got a peanut butter cup that was the size of 4 regular Reese for 5 bucks. That was with tax of course. I wouldn't have felt so bad if it was actually good. The chocolate must have been stale because it just fell apart. When does the milky part come in? And the little peanut butter that I found had no peanut taste and looked quite odd. I think they need to stamp an experation date on these things. My new favorite place for dessert!! I first heard about Rocky Mountain at my sisters wedding, where she had their adorable bride and groom apples on each table. I was a little skeptical at first, being a frequent Fannie May shopper, but the pecan bears at RMCF blew their turtles out of the water! Every time I walk in, I'm greeted with a delicious sample and a friendly face behind the counter... The caramel apples are TO. DIE. FOR. (a reason to stop by in itself).. I am a peanut butter fanatic, and the options are endless. There are the Tiger Butter apples, the avalanche bark (aka a peanut butter rice krispy treat mixed with chocolate chips and a little white chocolate), the peanut butter brittle (which is like the inside of a butterfinger), and finally, MASSIVE peanut butter cups. The owner, Heather, went above and beyond to keep within my price range. She was very creative and was a big hit at parties I have hosted. I received a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory coupon in the mail one day after a promotion began for $12.95 worth goodies for free. Though the dates and disclaimer, "while supplies last", were clearly stated, they were out in less than two days. I think that it was misleading on the store's part to post a ten day span of dates and not have at least a reasonable amount of items. In the 5 or so minutes that I was there, three other people came in with the same coupon. Like me, they thought they were ahead of the game. I felt bad for the young lady who had to constantly turn the coupon toting customers away. They were not happy. I've only been here once and was surprised that the candy/chocolate apples were not kept refrigerated to prevent them from getting mushy. I do think they sell them at a bargain price, I can remember Neiman's charging $10 for them back in the late 80's! I was looking for a chocolate fix and zeroed in on the truffles, bought 6 of them and for snorts and giggles got some chocolate covered pretzels. The truffles were mediocre, but the pretzels were really good. I get the impression that if you have a real taste for chocolate junk food, this is a great fix... chocolate covered cookies, potato chips, pretzels and other novelty items this is the place. But if you are a serious chocoholic looking for amazing truffles, you may come up short. I am undecided on whether the truffles were stale or just not very good.
