Crooks! They made me pay a co-pay last spring even though I told them I had already paid my out of pocket expenses for the year. Gave them $50 and figured they'd just give it back when the insurance company paid in full. They didn't. I called every month for 7 months and it was always "the check's in the mail". They finally sent me a check. For $35. I told them they owed $50, but they denied it even though I have the insurance statements to prove it. I had high hopes. I will say that that they did finally get me a diagnosis that others had missed. However, that's where my warm fuzzies end. Calling and calling about erroneous bills, trying to get refills, questions needing answered about tests...no call backs. I don't know if it's the front desk staff or they just don't care. Then we get to the unnecessary testing frequency. Nice ploy to get more money in my opinion. The final straw for me was when they refused to refill my prescription saying I needed another blood draw....that I had just had done 6 or 7 weeks ago. Are you kidding?! Yeah I'm done! The cost was 220$ to see a nurse practitioner....and they charged me almost 80$ for a b-12 shot....no thanks. Do yourself a favor a find somewhere else. They are way to into your pockets. Edit: they said they would send a one month refill on my medications after I canceled care with them: SHOCKER called the pharmacy today....*gasp* they never sent them. My experience with Cynthia Culp yesterday was BEYOND shocking. It was my 5th appointment with her, and I brought in blood work that I had done independently which showed an aggressive Epstein Barr virus and serious liver issues. She became very defensive and stated, "I don't have to tell you half the shit I tell you. You'd pay $400 an hour for what I provide in 30 minutes" She then went into a rant about her office overhead and said, "Do you know what it takes to keep the lights on in this place?" She talked about seeing patients back-to-back and said, "I'm too old for this shit." She also told me that my case was complex and that she didn't have time to study it in detail. At one point she asked sarcastically, "Why don't you just go back to school and get your medical degree?" The purpose of my visit was to go over several new supplements that I am taking. When I asked her if she knew what astragulus was, she flew off the handle, saying, "You don't have to educate me about supplements. I've gone to school for years." I was in no way trying to insult or educate her, I was trying desperately to get help for my condition which includes Hoshimoto's adrenal fatigue and EBV (all exacerbated by stress) . I know that I am responsible for my health and that there is no doctor who will be able to spend the time required to get to the root of my health issues or to treat them. Cynthia's defensiveness was totally unwarranted. When I told her that I was shocked by her behavior, she told me that I had raised my voice about not having my liver tested. This is NOT true. I was very aware of the her defensiveness within minutes of sharing my blood work with her, and went out of my way to compliment her on her knowledge of supplements and her ability to think outside the box, in an attempt to diffuse her antagonism. I told her that the reason I was in her office was because I didn't know who else in the area has the knowledge that she does, and that I desperately needed her help. I added that I was resistant to having another appointment with her due to her misdiagnosis of thyroid nodules and her callus remark about how much she diagnoses thyroid cancer. I explained that this had terrified me AND caused me to get an expensive ultrasound. She responded by saying, "People hear what they want to hear." She also said, "You won't find another practitioner in po-dunk Idaho who knows more than I do." At one point toward the end of the appointment which she cut short, she said, "I'm an intuitive person too, and I don't think I want to work with you." She also said that she would not write me a prescription for a new medicine that would be ideal for my case and said, "You'll just have to find another practitioner to write your prescriptions." I responded by telling her that I do believe everything happens for a reason and that I would be looking for another provider. I then asked the receptionist for copies of all of my records. Her expression was one of concern, and I got the impression that this was not the first time a patient has made such a request. Perhaps Cynthia is just burned out. If that's the case, she needs to either take a long vacation or retire before she harms more of her patients. read more

Rocky Mtn Health & Wellness was very disappointing to me. I am new to the area and was hoping to find a medical clinic that would look beyond prescription support, but more towards whole health. I will try to give you a succinct review. Reasons I considered staying: 1. Both Nurse Practitioners were knowledgeable and kind. Problems with the clinic: 1. This place is not inexpensive. They only have Nurse Practitioners but they charge as much or more than medical doctor charges. That seems wrong to me. Why am I paying these outrageous prices when you do not have the education? 2. Front desk team does not include caring individuals. I think they try, but are not innately kind, caring people. 3. There is no doctor they are associated with. If you need a physician, you have to go to another clinic, another bill, another appointment, more work for us, the patient. 4. Their holistic approach is associated with a vitamin supplement company, CTL Research. They are good vitamins but very expensive. I invested a year into this clinic, hoping that they would turn out to be what I needed. Sadly, I am moving on. I read a review before I went that said they only cared about money. I chose to ignore that because it sounded like an outlier situation and they had made someone mad. However, I wished I would have listened to that review. read more

On a personal level, I enjoy Colleen and believe that her heart is in the right spot with wanting to approach illness in a more natural way (compared to others who practice traditional medicine). I appreciate that she does not try to prescribe medications for every little thing. My issue is with the billing and coding of charges from this office. They do not have a certified coder in the office so the Nurse Practitioners code their own visits. My labs came back and I received a scary call "Colleen wants to see you to go over your labs, when can we schedule you..." The day of my lab review appt. I was an hour late being seen (never mind that I had to take time off of work) and when Colleen did come in, she spent less than 10 minutes with me reading my labs and handed me a copy.... They billed my claim as a 99214 (complexity equivalent to annual physical)... the claim was way over charged (it's called upcoding) the billed amount was $170 and the insurance allowed $163.34... who wants to pay $163.34 to have a nurse tell you what you could have read on your own? For the amount that I paid for that 10 minute visit, I could have had 2 appointments with a Naturopathic Doctor and walked away with far more valuable information and insight. Colleen is a great NP, but I highly recommend reviewing all claims for accuracy. As patients, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves and not let ourselves be LURED into additional appointments. I should have just walked in, got a copy of my labs and walked out. The staff was argumentative and hostile when I questioned their billing and coding practices (I was a Certified Coder and have almost 10 years experience auditing claims). I have since turned my care over to the hands of a Naturopathic Doctor and I'm saving money and my health has vastly improved. read more

I have been going to Rocky Mountain Health and Wellness for over 5 years. I've seen all three of the nurse practitioners in the office, and have been happy with each one. Cynthia Culp was my primary for many years, but as she began to specialize in more complex cases, it became harder and harder to get an appointment with her. I started seeing Colleen Shackelfod a year or so ago, and am thrilled with level of care I receive from her. She is more thorough than any M.D. I have seen historically, and she spends a lot of time with her patients. Sometimes the waiting time is a little longer than I'd like, but it's because of the quality time the nurse practitioners spend with their patients. I'd rather have to wait a little extra time here and there, and then get the attention I seek when it's my turn vs. going to another office with no wait time, and a standard '15 mins and your out' appointment. Colleen spends as many minutes as necessary to really understand the case at hand, and never cuts corners. I recently took my youngest daughter to her for a well baby check-up (my daughter is 3 1/2), and Colleen spent more time with her than any pediatrician I have gone to in the past. She is top notch, and I couldn't be happier with the service she provides. I trust her wholeheartedly, and appreciate her approach is looking at natural options vs. meds when appropriate, but also being open to western medications when necessary. I feel Rocky Mountain Health and Wellness provides a very balanced approach to medical care, and I'm thankful for the care they provide. No issues with billing (read the prior review), thankfully, despite the fact my insurance company tends to be a pain to work with in general. I would be frustrated as well, if I had billing issues, but haven't had to deal with them yet with Rocky Mountain Health and Wellness. I was so pleased with every Nurse Practitioner on staff. I usually have appointments with Colleen, but when she wasn't available I was seen by Cynthia and Kara and they were both fantastic. Two years ago I was looking for a medical care person who would treat me holistically, instead of visiting multiple health care practitioners for various conditions. It seemed liked none of my other Dr.'s would listen to what another practitioner was advising, and my care was fragmented, and thus much less effective. At Rocky Mountain Health and Wellness they treat all of me. Finally. Cannot recommend this practice enough. I'd give more than five stars if I could. read more

I am 43 years old with a young family and have been painfully suffering from increasingly debilitating health problems for over 5 years. Trying to diagnose and treat my ailments with conventional medicine alone led me almost nowhere. In 4/2015 I started seeing Cynthia Culp and she was the right person because she had been trained in mold sickness and was very instrumental in figuring out why I was experiencing my health problems and what to do for treatment. So many of the health problems we are experiencing are not being adequately addressed by our current medical establishment, such as mold sickness (and other bio toxins) and heavy metal toxicity. I believe conventional medicine has a role in our health however, it misses many critical underlying issues and promotes over medicating. Naturopaths are GREAT and they are needed; but for me, I needed expertise from both sides. The treatment I have received at RMHW has included both medication and herbs/supplements. This is the best that I have felt since 2010 and even though I am still healing I am in many ways much healthier than I was before I became ill. I definitely would recommend anyone who has a "diagnosis" of fibromyalga, chronic fatigue syndrome, severe and increasing allergies to foods/environment, RA, MS, and gut issues to RMHW. It is worth a different approach. It can be costly as some of the tests and treatments won't be accepted by insurance; but I decided that I have a life to live!
