We've owned and renovated three homes, and this was by far the worst experience we've ever had with any company. We hired Hearth Doctor to install a Renaissance 600 fireplace--a pricey, complex unit--and they botched it from start to finish. Safety ignored: They skipped a required radiation shield and told me to stuff insulation against the chimney pipe--an outright fire hazard. Only after I contacted the manufacturer did they reluctantly fix it, which meant removing a chimney already mounted two stories up. Timeline blown: A 2-day job dragged into 3.5 months, with constant delays and misinformation to my contractor. Poor workmanship: They mis-measured, forced rebuilds, denied necessary vents (later confirmed essential by the manufacturer), installed the unit with a broken door, then crudely bent the keyhole instead of replacing it. Finally, the fireplace was left visibly off-level, making finishing work nearly impossible. No accountability: Across six visits between June and September, I never received an apology. When I asked for a discount, they brushed me off, insisting they'd provided a "safe, functional, professional installation" that went "above and beyond" If this is their idea of "above and beyond," I shudder to think what "average" looks like. Bottom line: unsafe, sloppy, unprofessional. Save yourself the grief--do not hire this company.

We had reached out to three other companies, two of which we never even heard back from and one who said they wouldn't come this far out to our house (only a town or two over.) We were in desperate need of a chimney sweep and inspection. The woman who returned my call was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and got us booked with an appointment for the following week on a Monday morning! The two gentlemen who showed up to our home were very nice, professional, and knowledgeable. They went right to work and seemed to have everything taken care of in not talk much time. Although I wish the results of our chimney inspection were better (thanks previous owners of the house), the inspection was thorough and seemed reasonably priced. The young gentleman who gave me the results of our inspection was actually the owner of the company and said they would be emailing over photos of the complete inspection along with an estimate for any repairs we would need to have done before potentially installing a wood stove. That is why they are getting 2 stars. But his customer service leaves much to be desired. Communication was difficult, and when we showed up in a timely way to pick up our stove as requested, he was rude, told us we should have called first (they should have told us that, then!) and then, when we inquired about having the stove delivered instead (we'd just wasted a 2+ hour trip), told us that because delivery dates were scheduled out so far that we would have to pay another $100 for storage, in addition to the $150 delivery fee, to deliver the stove on THEIR timeline! All of this was said with no apology, never a smile, and no acknowledgement that they were the ones causing the long storage period, not us. We remained courteous throughout the encounter but came away extremely unimpressed AND nervous about how things will go if, God forbid, we ever need service or help of any kind from them.
