This is my third visit and I've tried 3 different individual meals: the sisig all-day breakfast (no rice for starch, just toast and hash browns that look more like tater tots) with pulled pork, sautéed mushrooms, green peppers, onions; pork skewers with garlic rice; longsilog (Filipino-style sweet sausage) with sunny side up eggs and garlic rice; and kwek-kwek (quail eggs in batter with sweet chili sauce). My husband and I were excited to discover that a new restaurant opened up in Coventry called Roc's Grill.' The lady who served us was attentive to detail and made us feel very welcome. The menu had excellent selection for both Western and Eastern tastes. As we're both fans of Indian Cuisine we decided to go with the butter chicken, Gobi Manchurian and Garlic Naan, all of which didn't disappoint our taste buds. The Ambiance of the restaurant was perfect and the seating and dining room layout was both clean and well designed. This pub/grill is located in the community of woodbine which many people do not necessarily travel to because it is not really near anything and really out of the way. However, I really like it. It is a hole in the wall but a delicious hole in the wall. This year, 2018, they had a booth at the rocky mountain food and wine festival and were serving: - Lechon Pork Belly - Chicken Adobo - Taro Cake - Sylvanas I didn't have any of the lichen pork belly because I don't eat pork but my family all said it was delicious. Great contemporary twist to the Filipino food, but for me the lack of seasoning is a deal breaker to fully appreciate the Filipino taste. I highly recommend the Beef Bulalo, Sisig, Grilled Liempo, Sizzling Caldereta and Garlic rice. As for drinks and desserts, try the Black Gulaman drink, Sylvanas, and the Chocolate Yema cake are a must. Overall, I might come back for the 3rd time, but not for a while. read more

Delicious! First time here and it was wonderful! We were seated right away, the server was so sweet! We ordered Pancit, BBQ pork skewers with rice and Spring rolls. It was so good, tasted like my Lola's and the portions were great. I wanted to have halo halo but we were too full to even have any...next time we definitely will! I won't be back. Can't recommend this place. I ordered sisig and it arrived warm. Nothing on this plate was hot. The spring rolls were piping hot and actually tasted fresh. Maybe the main chef was off and his apprentice was covering for him while getting over a cold. Just no. The halo-halo was on point. We were a party of 14, visiting from the US and UK. We've been traveling for 8 days now in Alberta and our dining experiences in Canmore and Jasper were not to par up until we dined at Roc's Grill. The restaurant is for small gatherings but we were fortunate to get a table for all of us. Every dish was a masterpiece of flavors, beautifully presented, and made with high-quality ingredients. I especially loved the pinakbet, karekare, sisig, pork belly, lomi overload and grilled tuna panga. The halo halo for desert was the best I have had, the mixture of different fruits and perfectly sweetened made me wished we can have a take out for tomorrow's breakfast. It was definitely a surprise to find a Filipino restaurant so far south but this place is definitely worth the trip! The menu is a very edited selection of Filipino dishes with some fusion style dishes. We started with the kare kare chicken wings. The wings were very large and the sauce was fantastic! We actually kept the sauce for our rice later on! I shared the crispy pata and garlic rice which has a lot of crispy pork skin but not as much meat. The rest of my party also had the chicken inasal with atsara and the house pancit which they seemed to enjoy. We tried an assortment of desserts: the leche flan and the yema cake were my favourite! Service was fairly prompt given that the restaurant was full. The price for the meal and desserts for 5 was under 150$ including tip which is awesome! There is lots of parking out front and the bathrooms are very clean. Would definitely visit again! read more

We came here for thanksgiving with the whole family. We had reserved seats so we were seated quickly. The restaurants did not seem busy, but the service was a bit slow. We ordered a fair bit of food, and they all came in little bit at a time, which was spaced over an hour period. In my opinion that is quite slow. As in filipino dinning you usually have your rice accompanied with your main entrees. We received our rice first - and then got our first entree 15 minutes later, then our second entree 15 minutes later again, and then the 3rd and 4th being spaced at least 15 minutes apart. The main entrees were great, although the servings were quite small. The appetizers we ordered were great as well, our family really liked the kare kare wings. The desserts on the other hand were a bit of a let down. Their cakes were so dry, the ube with ice cream was weird, and the leche flan was nothing special. Overall, I'm not totally convince that I can recomend Roc's grill as I didn't truly like it or hate it. I think I would come back again for the kare kare wings, but nothing else. read more

This is my second time dining here. I must say, when I first visited this restaurant I felt so much much welcomed by the staff. The place has a "cottage like" feel to it (which I LOVE). Food brings back childhood memories and still has the consistency of Filipino cuisine! A must try! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone! read more

Visiting from Seattle, I was astounded by the abundance of Filipino restaurants in Calgary! I prefer the small local shops over the Barrio Fiestas and the Max's Chickens. The cuisine tends to taste more unique, and I love experiencing how different chefs place their own spin on the dishes I love. We ordered takeout: fried pamapano (grilled fishda); lechon kawali (porkbellycious); sizzling seafood gambas; lumpia (spring rolls); and aligue fried rice. I was most excited about the sizzling gambas and the aligue fried rice because these are dishes that local Seattle area restaurants typically do not offer. Nor do I cook these myself. All the dishes were ready when we arrived, and everything was delicious and seasoned well. I prefer my lechon kawali to be a bit crispier than what Roc's had to offer. But it was still very flavorful and melted in my mouth! The aligue fried rice was saturated with lovely umami and paired well with both the pampano and the lechon. And, even though the gambas weren't served up sizzling on a metal platter, they were still quite hot in the small takeout bowl. And the temperature of the dish matched well with the spiciness of the flavors. I wish I could have stayed and tried some of the other Filipino restaurants in Calgary. But if you only have one day in this surprisingly diverse city, I recommend Roc's Grill! read more

First impressions are good and I am going back. Roc's Grill is a clean, nice and inviting "hole in the wall" in Woodbine. I have no knowledge whatsoever as to this type of food but dove in. I ordered the "Sizzling Caldereta". It is a sizzling beef stew platter that is slightly spicy. The server recommended garlic rice, which was terrific. Simply put, it surpassed all expectations. The dish was delicious, and even better with a cold beer from their menu. The problem I will have is exploring the menu now that I know they have a dish that is so amazing. We ordered lechon and a bed bugs like a small cockroach was sleeping on it. We are very lucky that we were able to notice it. The sisig also came in warm, sisig and its for sizzling, so why warm? Roc's Grill is our fave place to go to for crispy pata, bulalo, mang inasal and of course the chicken skin. We would always request more of our fave dipping sauce (lime and chili). They would always provide large servings as well, hence we have to take home some of them then we'd have an awesome breakfast for the next day. My go to place for a delicious never beaten "walang makaka compare" cripy pata. Eaten with shrimp sinigang and rice! I always come out of Rocs feeling satisfied and sleepy with all the food I devoured. Food is fresh, hot and delicous. The changes they've made were good changes. From when they 1st opened they went from good to better. Also, did I mention how good their LOMI is?! I always end up ordering more than I could eat in this place! Our family always love coming back to Roc's Grill. They have a cozy and welcoming ambiance. Staffs are friendly and approachable. Service is great. And of course the highlight of it all, the food is amazing. My family went to Roc's Grill yesterday September 16 for my daughter's birthday. We thought of the place highly, and had decent experiences in our past visits. We even brought a family friend and even recommended the place before we even arrived. However, we were so disappointed with the food served especially with the exorbitant bill we paid. We ordered crispy pata (3) expecting a delicious meal, but was instead served an overcooked and burnt crispy pata, barely considered edible. Secondly, the Kare-Kare (2), there were little to no meat and was mostly composed of veggies! We did not order veggie-veggie but kare-kare. Pinakbet was so salty and the servings were unreasonably small for $16. We also ordered sizzling sisig and 2 pansit for $18/order. Too expensive! Then the rest were desserts like leche plan and halo halo which were at least delicious. We paid $301 in total, an undeserving amount for the quality of food we were served. Even the tip was $50! A tip I could not even decide myself, but decided by the workers or the store itself? or themselves? instead. It was a ridiculoulsly high price and my family have very much considered whether we should keep recommending the place to friends or to not even go back to eat there. read more
