Sunset enjoyed while our boys swam & we bbq'd chicken mozzarella sausages bought there. They even provided paper goods and condiments.

This place is a classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover". When we first pull in, the exterior needs a little work and it's in the middle of nowhere so we were a little concerned. But as soon as we checked in, those concerns totally went away. The new owners have invested a good amount of money to renovate the inside of the rooms with really comfortable beds and an interior refresh. The pool and jacuzzi are perfectly heated and offer a gorgeous vew of the mountains at night (see attached). The closest restaurants are about 30 minutes away so Chris and Curtis, the managers, have done a really nice job stocking a good selection of quality foods that you can cook on their outdoor bbq or, believe it or not, even microwaveable options that are healthy and tasty... good selection of microbrews too (at reasonable prices). You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do and really go out of their way to make you feel at home. Great place to stay if your going to Capitol Reef National Park. We will be back on our next trip through. Thanks Chris and Curtis... great to meet you!

That was a very pleasant surprise. This place seems newly constructed and was very nicely designed to be spacious feeling in a very simple way. The main building was just a row of rooms, similar to a motel, but the artistry of the rope walls flowing like a canyon, really uplifted the whole feel. In the room the green plants, wall art and simplicity of a clean room, with the space to have comfy seating gave a feeling of ease. The open view to the cliff wall from the sliding door wall was about the prettiest scene you would want out of your bedroom. They offer rooms with and without a hot-tub on the back porch, as well as dome rooms, some with skylights for night time star viewing. However the domes don't open for reservations until sometime in April, the rooms with hot-tubs go very quickly!! I regret to say that we only stayed overnight. I now wish I had given us more time in this delightful hotel.

Incredibly clean and huge thank you to the folks who refreshed our room!! We got the king suite with hot tub on the patio. As everyone mentioned, stunning views. The stargazing rooftop was a fun option! The customer service was outstanding. The owner Joshua helped make sure our stay was perfect! All of the other staff we interfaced with were wonderful too. I also love the reusable water bottles in the mini fridge. We used those throughout the stay and were perfect after hiking!! Love the Shooke Coffee in the rooms with the French press - the best way to have coffee in a hotel. Definitely checkout their storefront while you're in town! No complaints, no notes. Would recommend to everyone! Thank you, Skyview!

And as of January 2025, the owners of the Grill have acquired the Lodge, so it's all one entity now. The Lodge has very comfortable rooms, a pond with an amazing variety of resident and migratory birds, a second-floor Great Room and balcony overlooking the pond, a hot tub, and ample grounds for children and pets to run. It's an easy drive up to Capitol Reef National Park for the day. Burr Trail Scenic Backway, starting right around the corner, is 67 miles of some of the most beautiful terrain you'll ever see. Don't miss the little slot canyon 11.5 miles down the trail! Last summer I took a pillow and some reading material and set up on two flat rocks near the back end of the slot canyon. It's nature's most gorgeous reading room ever! The Grill features vegetables and salads from their farm, local pastured beef and bison, and some of the best desserts ever. My two favorite orders are the Dinner Jenchilada with calabacitas (squash) and the Chocolate Chile Cream Pot. But they are both rich, so I have them on different days. Big secret -- it tends to be quieter in mid-summer! People think it's going to be hot in July, like other Utah areas like Zion, so they plan to come later. But the average July high is just 88, with an overnight low of 60, so the wonderful hiking trails nearby are pleasant for morning and evening hikes pretty much every day.

I had the Single king room which was nicely furnished with lots of nice touches and perfect for my needs. The king size bed had a nice firm mattress but the pillows were kind of soft and didn't provide a lot of support. The tv was a connected to an antenna so there was only a limited amount of channels and sometimes the reception was spotty. But since the purpose in visiting Escalante is to get out and enjoy all the wonderful hikes and drives available this was no problem. The room has a microwave, small fridge, and a coffee/tea area with fresh ground coffee available. It would have been nice to have a small office chair so I could set up my laptop on the desk. The bathroom has lots of towels and a nice shower. The room has a back door that leads to a seating area in the back with a nice view of the mountains. The front of the rooms has a firepit and a grill and a nice seating area as well. The lobby closes at 6pm but the owners are available by phone to text or call. They are wonderful hosts. I had the pleasure of talking to and getting to know Terry and Wendy when I had a waffle for breakfast. They do not offer a free breakfast but they do have a small restaurant that sells incredible Belgian waffles and wonderful fresh ground coffee. The next time I am in Escalante I will definitely stay here again.

They also had a jar of snacks available, cups, plates, bowls, and silverware if you were eating any food. There was a roll of paper towels available and also a few packets of instant oatmeal and a variety of teas to make. Some of the rooms are pet friendly and they had a blanket, pet bowls, and treats available. They also had a note that they would arrange to let your pet out mid-day if needed while you were out for the day. There were also grills available if you wanted to grill. The blinds were also great for blocking out light if you want to sleep in a bit.

We stayed in a beautiful 2-queen bed room that was very comfortable and well-equipped with a good-sized refrigerator and microwave. The amenities here are fantastic--there is a large recreation area featuring a heated pool, hot tub, sauna, gym, and pickleball courts. Breakfast was also a highlight, offering a great selection of options including waffles, breakfast sandwiches, cake loaves, oatmeal, fresh fruits, and a wide variety of coffees and teas. Because we used a free Hilton night certificate, the price wasn't an issue for us, but room rates this May were running around $600 a night. For a property commanding that premium price point, there are still a few operational details that need to be ironed out to match the high-end experience they are aiming for: Front Desk & Service: The front desk is currently not staffed all day, which can be inconvenient for a luxury resort. Communication: Communication needs a bit of tuning, specifically updating their welcome email template and ensuring guest text messages are answered promptly. Signage: Physical signage from the main road needs improvement, which is especially important if you are arriving without a working GPS signal. Overall, it is a gorgeous property with excellent bones and great potential. Once these smaller service details and the new dining options are fully sorted, it will easily be a top-tier luxury destination!

We stayed at Austin's Chuckwagon Motel for a night while exploring Capitol Reef in one of the…read moreretro-Queen rooms above the store. This is a room that isn't advertised in 3rd party sites and has to be booked on the property website only - it's something like 50% cheaper than the rooms in the hotel. The room comes with unlimited tea, coffee, and hot chocolate from the General Store/Cafe. We were a bit confused with how it worked since other customers have to pay for drinks, but the clerk assured us we could go whenever to get drinks (which we did multiple times!) While we checked in too late in the day to eat at the deli and left too early in the morning for Chuckwagon's famous lunch boxes, we did hit it up in the morning for breakfast pastries, which according to the cashier are all baked in house (and why we were attracted to them in the first place). We were having trouble deciding between the Kouign Amann and the Chocolate Croissant, eventually deciding on the former, but the cashier tossed us the latter for free! What great service! Chocolate Croissant (Complementary, normally $6) - This is a gorgeous looking croissant, golden brown with a drizzle of sweet chocolate on top, still soft and gooey thanks to being fresh from the oven. It's baked hard, so croissant shards fly everywhere while eating. I'd say it's baked a tad too long, so while extremely flaky, the interior isn't quite as chewy as I'd like. The lamination does look quite good from what I can tell after having some difficulty slicing through with a plastic knife. As is traditional, two chocolate batons are baked inside. (5/5) Kouign Amann w/ Cream ($6) - Again, this pastry has a really hard bake, so almost the entire thing shatters easily, except for the stellar caramelized sugar layer covering the bottom. It's hardened, sticky, and sweet with a great crunch factor. The interior is actually correct for a Kouign Amann, which is really surprising for a small-town bakery. It's not laminated nearly as much as the croissant, and instead seems to be a nice enriched brioche interior, albeit not particularly airy and soft in texture due to the bake. There's a really tangy and somewhat sweet cream cheese frosting that's piped into the center. I'd actually prefer the pastry without this extra flourish, but beggars can't be choosers! (5/5) Both pastries are more of a 4.5/5 due to the bake, but the ingredients and technique (other than bake) seem to be well thought out. We were not expecting much from these baked goods given that the Chuckwagon Deli isn't exactly a specialty bakery, but in the end we were extremely surprised by the quality. I'll definitely be revisiting if I'm ever in town again.

Guests of the motel gets free coffee, tea, or hot chocolate from the general store which is open early til late, 10pm I believe. We ate at the deli for breakfast. I was looking forward to the quiche based on what I saw on the Yelp pictures but I guess the menu has changed. They only offer breakfast sandwiches now but it's made to order so we got to choose type of eggs and proteins. It did take a bit a time for them to make it so factor that in when planning your visit. The sandwiches were ~$12 each but were pretty filling so perfect for another day of hiking.
