This was a convenient stay for a trip to Carlsbad Caverns. It was a roomy room with a fridge and microwave, and access to the store right across the street. One other thing I really liked was the smart TV that allowed you to log into your own Hulu, Netflix, etc. I don't see that often at hotels and was happy to spend the night in, catching up on my shows! Only complaint about this place is that they did not seem to take COVID seriously as the woman at the front desk did not have a mask, nor seem to require one of those she was chatting with in the small office. read more

Pretty shocked by the super negative reviews. We received a really good internet price on the room and couldn't find anyplace cheaper to stay (including in Carlsbad). The room was typical motel, but it was a good size, comfortable and clean. Had no problem with the beds. Free WiFi, cable, typical free coffee packs, shampoo etc. I don't know why some visitors didn't receive the shampoo/soap. We had them. Best of all was the remodeled swimming pool area complete with water slides. Swimming pool was large. This was by far the best swimming pool area of all the hotels we stayed on during our road trip. The kids loved it. Unfortunately, we arrived at the hotel a little late and were only able to take advantage of it for an hour. There were two big negatives. Check in was really slow because their computer system was down. Because of that, the guy tried to charge us normal prices. Fortunately, we had previously printed out all of our reservation information and were able to retain our previous internet price ($80). Second big negative was the included free breakfast. It's clean and the beds are comfortable. Very limited service and dingy looking on the outside for sure. The rooms themselves even have old bedspread covers instead of just white. Yuck! They charge a lot more because of the area but this is the closest hotel to Carlsbad Caverns, The reason I chose this property. They do seem to have a very friendly staff and although I requested a late checkout, I am not guaranteed until I actually check out tomorrow. This is a pet friendly hotel, which gives it an added bonus, in my opinion. If you are here to see the caverns, just stay here, not so bad. As other reviewers have posted, there is a small gift shop across the street and a restaurant across the street from the gift shop that is only open until 7 PM. It is close to the park, the old guy at the front desk was friendly and the rooms are big - but that's where the fun stops. We got two rooms; one (255) reeked of smoke and the other (253) smelled of well, we couldn't figure out what. Could be a dead animal, decaying fruit or a lot of wet socks or carpet. The standing lamp in the corner had no switch - broken off? There were a lot of insects in the room: mostly bees and flies. Most were dead. Pictures attached. Some of the towels and washcloths were filthy. That is not an exaggeration. Take a look at the photo attached. The toilet bowl was dirty and the carpet wasn't cleaned (candy and wrappers strewn about) and torn in two places. The floor tiles in the wash basin and toilet areas were VERY slippery. I actually hurt my arm when I slipped and fell against the wall. Maybe strong soap was used to clean the tiles and not rinsed?? It felt like a waxed surface. Bottom line is the balance between convenience and comfort. At 100 bucks a night I expect better than this, even from a low end motel. I would not stay here again. read more

The only reason we stayed here was because it was super close to Carlsbad Caverns. They need to buy new bed! Sleeping on them are like sleeping on a rock! There were 3 pillows on the bed so me and my bf had to share the third. The giftshop across the street is very deceiving. We should have gotten out things from the caverns gift shop; but that has nothing to do with the hotel, just a heads up! They didn't even have shampoo/conditioner, body wash or anything in the shower. Whisky tango foxtrot! The only 2 things nice about this place is the bathroom and the location. Found this place online during our spontaneous road trip. We were looking for a place to stay close to Carlsbad Caverns. This place was the closest you could get, being right at the park entrance. So after seeing a few reviews we decided to go ahead and book this place, plus it wasn't very expensive and we were trying to make this an economical road trip too. I think I would have rather splurged a bit and went into Carlsbad. The exterior of this place and its surroundings looked like a dilapidated ghost town. The only reason you know people were there was all the trash and cigarette butts in the parking lot. I think the only reason people do stay here is because it's so close. The front staff lady was pleasant and helpful with info about the park. She also let us know we could use the water park for free since we were staying there. Thank God, I might have had to punch myself for booking this place if not! When we entered our room it appeared clean, but did have a 'interesting' smell. Not unpleasant, but intriguing. My partner and daughter spent the first 15 minutes being fly killers as our room was full of them. We just kinda laughed at the fact this place had such good ratings. We've stayed at much nicer 'dive' hotels for the same amount of money for sure. The beds were fine, the tub and sink area were clean - which was great since those are the main things you use in the room. But the walls were soiled with prior dead flys and there was 'stuff' on the bathroom door. Guess they should focus on cleaning the ENTIRE room sometimes. The water park was a diversion from your room for sure. Two water slides and a kittie pool play area. The main pool looked unappealing as you couldn't even see to the bottom - yikes! There are very limited options if you want to stay near Carlsbad Caverns National Park, so this is where we stayed. Typical motel for the most part. The good: + Really clean bathroom, including a spotless (brand new?) toilet + Pet friendly! Our dog stayed here with us. + Close to Carlsbad Caverns The not-so-good: - Mattresses were flimsy - Very thin walls. We could understand a lot of what our neighbors were saying. - There were literally 3 things in the "continental breakfast": orange juice (subpar), coffee (subpar), and prepackaged muffins (subpar). - In the middle of the night, there would randomly be these really loud, sudden noises coming from near the window. I stayed here while visiting Carlsbad Caverns from Denver and was so bummed by the experience. After looking at a sparse map, I called the hotel to see if there was food around. The lady that answered the phone assured us that there were a couple of options and that we should come check in. At this point, we were still in the actual town of Carlsbad and made our way to the hotel. Upon arrival, we went to the front desk, checked in, and asked about the closest food again. We were then told that the closest food was an hour away - in Carlsbad - where we just came from. So after nearly 9 hours on the road, we added an extra 2 hours just to eat dinner. After that, we came back to the hotel and looked forward to being so close to the caverns. The bed sheets were not clean, there was hair all of the bathroom, and the beds were uncomfortable. It included waffles, individual bowl cereal, muffins, cartoon milk and orange juice, coffee and fruit. Room was pretty clean, but there was a bee that got in somehow. There was also a big spider we had to kill in one of the corners. Staff was friendly and accommodating. There was a pool and water play area. This place is a dump. My employer set me up here for a couple weeks with several co workers. On a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being just ok and 5 being totally shitty, this hotel is a 5. Why? Shit stains smeared on the outside of the toilet. We asked multiple times for it to be cleaned. They're still there. The comforter has cigarette burns, the sheets have not been washed well, if at all, with multiple hairs from past visitors and the toilet and shower are both clogged. Came back several times and the room hadn't been cleaned in the past 24 hours. Towels that are 'clean' have long black hairs Embedded in them. Loud and noisy due to thin walls. At times it seems like I can hear vermin moving around in the room after the lights go out. The only plus is that it is the closest place to Carlsbad Caverns. We decided to take the long car trip from Albuquerque to Carlsbad, while making a few touristy stops along the way, but didn't book a hotel. We kept seeing the signs for this place and wanted to grab a room as close to the park as possible. The hotel is literally right outside of the park entrance and 7 miles from the visitors center. Got there about 6pm and was easily able to grab a room from the friendly front desk staff. The place is kind of a tourist trap. A couple of hotels, restaurant, store, gifts, gas and a post office. The inn is more of a motel. The room was very clean. Bed was comfy, nice large flat screen tv and a very nice bathroom. My bed had 4 pillows and the bathroom was stocked with everything I needed. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't I could just go to the front desk and ask. In the morning they do have free coffee, fruit and muffins. read more

Not a bad place. Read alot of bad reviews but still decided to take one fur the team. Room was clean and linens were fresh. Bed spreads were modern design too, not that funky multi color motel look. All in all everything was fine. The kids had fun at the small water park and the pool. The motel seemed kind of empty but we were here on a Tuesday. The neighboring restaurant sucked though. Everything around the motel closes at 8 pm in the summer so get your supplies prior to arrival or before closing time. When I checked in I told the clerk that I read all of the bad reviews and was told that if there was any problems to call her and she would make it right. Don't understand all the negative comments. We stayed here for about $80 for 2 adults. Room was spotless (if slightly dated) very large king suite with two desks and separate bath area. Internet connection was a bit of a challenge and i would give that 2 stars. Good overall value, especially compared to the overpriced alternatives in Carlsbad itself which were almost double. Recommended for anyone hoping to stay a night or two nearby Carlsbad Caverns! They had the most reasonable price (especially compared to hotels in Carlsbad proper). The room was spacious, clean, and included a microwave and refrigerator. The staff was kind and accommodating. Negative: This is the closest place to the Caverns. So you would think a dip in the pool after watching the bats would be the perfect ending to the day. But when we got back we were told the pool closed at 9:00. Why? Then we were planning to do our morning aerobics in the pool at 7:00 AM and were told the pool does not open "until 10 or 11" (checkout time). Why? Positive: Super nice fellow at the desk. Room is big and clean. Bed is comfortable. Convenient to the Caverns. Good fridge with freezer. TV is snowy but we brought our Firestick so it did not matter. Good wifi. The hotel is about 8-10 miles from the Carlsbad Caverns. If you stay in Carlsbad you add 20 miles extra to and from each way to Carlsbad. The restaurants and store selection is light years better in Carlsbad than While City. White City is about 30-35 miles from Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The room was big and the bed mattresses were very good. The bathroom was very spacious and great for a handicapped person. However the hotel cost over $125 per night with taxes and fees. The thing that angered me was the constant negativity. Signs says do not take the towels or you will be charged. Do not use the ice machines to fill up your cooler. My personal favorite was all we required to provide is coffee. Choice hotels usually provide a hot breakfast but Rodeway is the bottom of their offerings. They did provide some tasteless muffins, tea-coffee, waffles and oatmeal packets. I was afraid to turn the lights on. The hotel was convenient and that is why we decided to pay extra. I understand theft is a big problem but I do not want crappy towels. At $125 I do not want constant harassment. read more

The reason you're on this page is you want to go to Carlsbad Caverns, but you'd rather not stay in the city of Carlsbad proper, about 30 minutes away, where a comparable hotel costs 2-3 times more. We didn't get it, either. You've also Google Mapped it and seen that from the street it looks, well, possibly closed. It's not - it's an actual, factual Rodeway with all the trappings of a low-end chain hotel. It's old, kind of weird, but by us it was totally fine. Be warned, since we got in somewhat late: there's nothing to do in this town past 6:00. Also, the hotel wifi doesn't work for anything. Account for those two facts, and you'll be OK. You're here for Carlsbad Caverns, which is amazing. Book through Rodeway's site and get your AAA discount, then use the dough saved on prepping with food, drink, provisions, whatever you may need to get you through a long evening. Who knows, you might like it? It's quiet and the views are lovely. The rooms are pretty big with typical motel amenities and a mini fridge. On the chance you get in early, the modest water park looks kinda fun, although it's only open seasonally (would call ahead for the schedule if that's a huge selling point). Grab muffins and bananas from the lobby's continental brekky counter in the morning, and you're right at the park's front gate ready for a totally dope cave adventure. Good times! Now, if you need a flat-screen TV with more than basic cable, carpet and decor that have been updated this century, decent coffee, and more drink options than the antique 7-Up vending machine downstairs, well, this place ain't recommended. But if you're a road dog who can give up a few conveniences to save time and a few bucks, you're good here. read more

The older gentleman at the front desk provided the most awkward, unpleasant check in experience I've ever had at a hotel. When I entered the lobby I could barely even see him or hear him as he sat behind the very tall desk. He was very soft spoken. I told him we were checking in and my name and he didn't say anything for a very long time... and just clicked on his computer. I knew I needed to tell him we had a dog. But I was waiting for him to say something like confirm he had our reservation. So I guess I waited to long to say we had a dog so when I told him. He started shaking his head With a very loud exhale in disgust. He then told me it would be 20$. Then he said well you are lucky we got a room because it was the last one for pets and he would have had to turn us away. (Again saying it in a way as if I did something wrong, when there was no place at the time of the reservation to indicate we had a dog... only that they accepted dogs). So I got out my credit card and handed it to him and he said no, we need cash. And I said you won't take cards? And once again he shook his head and said we've never taken cards for dogs. Luckily I didn't realize the my husband had some cash or who knows what would have happened. Come one people! How do you not take cards!!!! I couldn't wait to leave the lobby so that this terrible experience could end! On another note, the shower barely drained so I stood in about 2 inches of water my entire shower. Also noticed last night bed bug bites on my sons stomach... great. Hope we didn't bring any home. read more

I've stayed at a lot of hotels and this is by far one of the worst. 1) The bathtub was clogged. We tried to have a shower but the water would not drain. Took all night before the water went down. 2) The room was full of bugs. I understand this is the desert but the amount of bugs in this room was unacceptable. Bugs are going to happen but a hotel should do everything it can to mitigate the amount. There was a hole in the floor boards where I noticed the bugs coming in. Thankfully there weren't any bed bugs but it was still pretty gross. 3) The WIFI didn't work. Sure its a 1st world problem but when you are in the middle of nowhere and a cell signal is weak working WIFI is a necessity. I pretty sure it was a DNS problem but I talked to other guest and none of them could get online. 4) TV reception was poor. Again another 1st world problem but the TV looked as if you were watching it through cataracts. 5) There are two drink machines - One was out of order and the other was poorly stocked and what it had was strange brands and flavors. Again not a huge deal by itself but you have to understand, this town has NOTHING so you really need the hotel to at least have some basic supplies. 6) The AC unit barely worked. When we arrived the room was warmer than the outside temp. The once the AC turned on it took until morning before the room even cooled down a bit. 7) The advertised water park was not open and looked as if it hadn't been opened in a while. The room was a lot cheaper than the other hotels in the area so I guess you get what you pay for but damn this place was a dump. The whole town of Whites City is a depressing mess which looks like where Mad Max would go on vacation. You would think a town and hotel right outside of a major attraction would be a lot nicer, yet I would have rather stayed outside of Mount Doom in Mordor. I can't stress how bad this place was. The sad thing is that if you are planning to stay right outside the park then you don't have much of a choice. They have you trapped and know it so they do the bare minimum. So if you like crap that doesn't work, disgusting rooms and bugs that come out of holes in the walls and ceilings then the Rodeway Inn located in Whites City is the place for you. read more

Stayed at the Rodeway Inn on October 2nd & 3rd, during my visit to Carlsbad Caverns. I had stayed at this location previously in 1996 when it was the Best Western Cavern Inn. Things have definitely changed during the last 20 years since descendants of the White family sold the town & motel about 9 years ago. The exterior of the building needs some major renovation, but my room (#252) was well kept & clean. The A/C and plumbing worked fine, but the free WiFi was slow. The nearby White's City restaurant closes at 2pm, so the only dinner options are to drive to the town of Carlsbad, 20 miles east. A basic complimentary breakfast is provided to guests daily in the motel lobby (muffins, cereal, waffles, coffee, milk, and juice). The major advantage of staying at Rodeway Inn is that you are at the very entrance to Carlsbad Caverns National Park....the caverns are located just 7 miles up the road. Things seem to be slowly getting better in White's City, but it is on-going, since the entire place was extremely run-down when the new owners took over. I would recommend Rodeway Inn when visiting Carlsbad Caverns....just don't expect too much, and you won't be disappointed. read more

It's just outside the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns National Park, but there's nothing else here, besides a gas station, a curio shop, a few boarded-up buildings, and a fairly terrible restaurant. Bottom line: if you need to spend the night, stay in Carlsbad (the nearest town, which is 25 minutes away), not here! Definitely a great location that will save you 40+ miles of driving everyday if you are going to the Caverns. Especially convenient if you are going back in the evening for the bat flight, Our rooms were huge & clean; bathroom recently remodeled w/ new tub fixtures and tile. Meals take a little planning as there is not much to choose from in Whites City and everything (sole restaurant included) closes -8:00pm. The adjacent "waterpark" is a little rustic but access is included in the room rate. The swimming pool is a salt water pool. The kids thought it was great fun especially the two big water slides. Free wifi and continental-ish breakfast (prepackaged cereal and muffins and fruit.) I would definitely recommend this to anyone planning on visiting the park for a day or two. Not a bad place...but I was really grossed out by the water stains (I hope that's what it was) and bloody thumbprint on the curtains! Room was old, threadbare and dingy. There were some creepy people around, but it's a cheap motel, what do you want? Guys at the desk were also creepy, but polite. Free orange juice! This is the only place by the caverns. Lock your doors, put on that car alarm, figure out how to sleep without touching the pillow and sheets, suck it up and enjoy the motel. We enjoyed the stay in this hotel. It was VERY clean and smelled fresh when we walked in. The bathroom was very clean. We appreciated the mini fridge and microwave. Downfalls, really nothing around. We got here at 7pm, the small store was already closed. We had to go to Carlsbad to get ammenities, which qas about 25 mins away. Not a deal breaker...The biggest dissapointment was that the pool that we booked the room at this location for was closed! My 7 yr old son was disappointed. We recommend calling to ensure the pool is open if that was a reason for the booking here in Whites City. Otherwise, we were satisfied with the stay here. read more

We stayed here on a family vacation to New Mexico. The inn was clean, quiet, and safe. Our room had recently been renovated, as although it is obvious the inn was older, our bathroom had been completely re-done, and the room smelled fresh and new. The desk clerk was friendly. The location couldn't be beat - literally a few feet away from the entrance to the park and a seven mile drive to the caverns. The breakfast selection was limited to muffins and coffee, so we were forced to eat at the less-than-impressive restaurant next door. I would definitely stay here again, especially when you consider the value and location compared to the hotels/motels/inns in the town of Carlsbad (20-30 minutes away). Based on other reviews written about this inn, as well as hotels/motels/inns in general, it appears as though people expect the appearances and amenities of a 4 or 5 star hotel when staying at what is obviously a 2 star hotel. Just arrived from TX. Didn't plan early enough for spring break, so we found this hotel near the caverns, everything in Carlsbad was booked. Plus side, caverns just down the road, minus Carlsbad is back the other way through construction. If planning a summer trip here, make sure the air is working, as it is not cooling very well in our room. Not much of a lobby and you have to knock to get in. Claim there is a continental breakfast, will hit Walmart to get our own breakfast. Will update at the end of our stay. read more

Talked to Roy even before I left home, such great hospitality at the office! :) Room is very clean, got everything one needs, fridge with freezer, microwave. Yes, price is higher because of its great, convenient location to the cavern, the closest, only 7 miles. Did have problem accessing kids website via their free wifi. There's a restaurant within walking distance, grocery store/post office are across the street. Breakfast you take it to your room since there's no sit-down space in the office. Would not stay anywhere else if you are coming to the Carlsbad Caverns. So conveniently located...makes it easy to go back at night to see the bats. Extremely nice staff! Very friendly making the reservation, changing the date of the reservation, and checking in and out. Certainly not a luxury hotel but a fine place to lay your head. Acceptably clean. We appreciated the limited Muffin, OJ and coffee complimentary breakfast. It was raining so we didn't really do the waterpark, but the smaller kids would likely enjoy it. Only drawback...
