I will keep this short and sweet....Perfect spot to stay Only if your visiting the Carlsbad Cavern....simply a place to lay you head...very limited cable channels...weak wifi and big downer was the lack of outlets to plug into...unless you count the one nest to the light switch on the wall...could have just been our room...but I suggest an extention cord and power strip.

I decided to establish a scale for rating hotels and motels. I apply the same scale for "luxury" hotels as well as "budget" motels as I stay in all types depending on where I am traveling and the purpose. After cleanliness there is no particular order. 1. Cleanliness. IT WAS REASONABLY CLEAN 2. Comfort of bed. THE MATTRESS WAS GOOD BUT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH BLANKETS AND THE BED WAS COLD. 3. Comfort of pillows. Are there both firm and soft available. THE PILLOWS WERE HARD 4. How new is the room decor and fixtures. THE DECOR WAS OLD BUT FUNCTIONAL. 5. Quality of room. This includes size, temperature, smell, lighting. THE ROOM WAS LARGE AND COOL. 6. Quality of bathroom. This includes size, lighting, ventilation. 7. Bathroom amenities. These include magnifying mirror, presentation, quantity and quality of toiletries. Softness of tissue and towels. NOTHING EXTRA 8. Friendliness of staff. THE STAFF WERE SUPER FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. 9. Noise. Road noise, adjacent room noise, air conditioner noise. 10. Price. Was it worth the price I paid all things considered? This includes proximity to conferences and activities. LOCATED CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE FOR THE CARLSBAD CAVERNS. DOGS ALLOWED. OVERALL A GOOD VALUE.

It's def older, but the ladies, front desk were very nice and friendly. The lady in the evening who checked us in and the two who helped us with breakfast and check out in the AM. The bed and pillows were comfortable, clean and roomy. Plenty of space. Was quiet, no loud noise. It was empty upon check in and busy when we left so we didn't even hear everyone arrive. The TV was very old and the channels were kind of staticy with multiple Spanish channels haha but for a one nights stay and getting to the caverns it was good, no complaints. Per their information they had Apple or orange juice, cereal, muffins which is all you need and if you have an issue with it then you can go 25 min into town for breakfast. Not a bad deal. I'd stay again if i was driving through.

    These guys were happy!

I am SOO happy we came across this place while driving into Carlsbad Caverns. Don't look anywhere else in the city, this is the place to stay for the best bang for your buck. First and foremost, they are PET FRIENDLY! No weight limit and just $10 per pet. You won't find any place in town that beats that. Sure, the Motel 6 there doesn't charge for them, but just look at their reviews... it's a rough one. The front desk running the place was extremely friendly and some of the best customer service we have encountered during our week-long road trip across New Mexico (Valerie?). She was able to snag us a great room the night of. She even called us back to give us a heads-up to grab some food first because nothing is near this place besides a little convenience store/gift shop that had already closed. This store is fun as well to check out FYI, cool stuff for the kids to see. Another plus is we were short on time the next day to check out Carlsbad Caverns first thing in the morning before our journey back home to Austin, TX. This place is literally walking distance to the entrance vs. the 20+ minute drive if we were to stay in town. So, we were able to get in and out of the Caverns that morning in time to come back and checkout. It was very quiet and safe in the area. The room was HUGE with two beds. They also have a large (somewhat) grass area for the doggos to do their business which has been hard to find in places. We would 100% stay here again.

As of late April 2022, is this inn still open? I booked online and I tried to call to confirm, but the call never connects.

It was open end of May 2022 ~ we just stayed there!

Keeping the 5 star status going!…read more Arrived on a Friday evening and stayed until Sunday morning. Staff was nothing but polite, considerate, and helpful. They stuck our 5 year old's name on customer of the day and allowed her to spin the prize wheel each day we stayed. She was thrilled to win a koozie. Hotel lobby was clean and they had candy, water bottles, and fresh cookies out for guests to enjoy. You could borrow an appliance for your room if needed. There was a little food pantry stocked to the brim if you needed a quick snack or forgot to pack something. Yogurt, apples, oranges, coffee, water, and hot cocoa were all free. Our room was clean and tidy. It came fully stocked with utensils, dishes, cookware, paper towels, dish soap/dishwasher pods, a coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. The hotel was also pet friendly, which was a major plus since we had our two dogs with us. There was a nice little gym section which was connected to the laundry facility and pool. We didn't use the gym or laundry during this stay, but our kids loved the pool. The water was a little cold for my liking, but the kids didn't seem to mind. The area was handicap accessible, clean, and stocked with fresh towels. There was a lovely outdoor patio with heat lamps, tables, and a few grills. Around back, there was a dog walk area stocked with poop bags and a trash can. To my surprise, there were also children's toys-- two cozy coupes, a slide, some scooters, and balance bikes. These people really have it together! If we ever go back to Carlsbad, I'd stay there again!

Leann at the front desk was kind a welcoming, we needed a bit of assistance with the TV/remote and the maintenance guy was quick and efficient! I waited 20 minutes in line until the manager showed up and was able to get to me. My check in after that only took a couple minutes. It was frustrating because only one person originally was at the front desk and didn't even acknowledge me or the fact that I only needed the card key and room number because I checked in online. The other problem was checking out. When I went online, it asked if I wanted a late checkout time at no extra charge. That was great because my son was still sleeping at 10 and I wanted to give him extra time to rest. This was at 10 am when I requested it but at 1045 housekeeping knocked so we rushed to check out at 1100. It was a little hectic but we were able to do it. The problem was our request for a late checkout never came back and just said pending. It wasn't till after we rushed to checkout and we were on the road that the email finally came in at 1130 saying it was denied. Again, lack of communication and late responses led to the low rating.

Doors to both rooms opened to the outside of the building. Neither room had what I would consider a special character, but I don't really care about that sort of thing. Beds were among the most comfortable that I have experienced in a hotel. The rooms were a good size, with a sofa in the first and a chair in the smaller second room. Both rooms were quiet, though I expect the celler room must be more so. Our main complaint was the lack of space to store our clothes outside of the suitcases - neither a closet nor dresser in either room. The Sailor's Hornpipe room has the bathroom at the top level, and you walk down stairs to reach the bedroom portion. This is okay, except that we moved into this room the evening of the day that I hiked to the summit of Guadalupe Peak, so I was in a considerable amount of pain going up and down the stairs. You might factor this into your choices. The room does have a sunken window which seems to have an escape ladder in case of emergency, which brings some light in if you open the curtains. We found the upstairs heater fan quite noisy so turned it off, and found the electric fireplace downstairs was adequate (I let the owner know, so hopefully the fan will be fixed in future). Parking was angled parking at the street out front (best to approach from the north, or you'll need to make a u-turn). A little worrisome backing out into the road when the view was blocked by another vehicle, but there wasn't much traffic, and I just backed out slowly to give any cars time to react. The housekeeper was friendly and helpful, she even loaned me a broom to sweep snow off my car. A $18 breakfast credit was provided at the Blue House Bakery and Cafe, which was the best breakfast option I have had at a B&B. Good coffee and food, and a friendly cat out front. Overall a positive experience, though perhaps a little pricey for Carlsbad.

The window unit ran the entire time and it never seemed to get warm enough. The wall unit also was noisy. They did provide extra blankets and ear plugs. The bath room floor tiles were cracked and the shower controls were super sensitive. I wish the room had Tea or Cocoa but that's just a suggestion. We would definitely return but would book a room with a fireplace.
