Long story short, I ended up having an excision surgery for Stage IV Endometriosis, and it was so bad that I also ended up needing a bowel resection. For being told multiple times during my visits that my pain was due to ovulation, my fibroids weren't an issue (he had women with 12cm fibroids get pregnant), and that the developing cysts on my ovaries were nothing to be concerned about, it was a genuine shock that my situation was so dire. My doctor that did the excision surgery shared that I had a life expectancy of 5-6 years if I had not been treated. With regard to the office experience, it is a shock that his office does not send out appointment reminders. According to his staff, they are too small. Given that my dog groomer, acupuncturist, and my therapist all manage their own schedules and send automated appointment reminders without issue, that is definitely an area of improvement. Especially when I was charged a $50 no show fee for an appointment that I never scheduled. All in all - they tried. However, when a patient is far too complex they should be referred out to another provider, not told that everything is fine and to move on. If it were his family, I doubt he would have taken the same approach as he did with me.

No amount of orthopedic or physical therapy had helped --the problem was structural. The fix? A temporary 9mm heel lift that got my pelvis moving correctly. (And that is not even what I saw him for!) People mention the price and, although it took a couple months to get the check, Medicare covered a lot of the cost. Because health insurance doesn't ever reveal to us how much MD's are actually charging for their services, we assume they are cheap or "free". They are not. They are very expensive. Top osteopaths like Dr. Cohen are healers, in the best sense of the word. They go through the same training, study, residency as MD's. But MD's can only test, diagnose, and give a prescription drug or surgery --the American way! Unless it's catastrophic ICU, I prefer being healed. I like to stay ahead of the game. Lastly, I have history of long-term emotional trauma, complicated by a recent concussion. That is what I went in for help with. I tried many things to recover yet Dr Cohen helped far more than any of the other standard treatments did. I highly recommended several sessions in a row, a week apart, to get full benefit of his work. I can't say enough good about his work. Highly recommend!

I am so very thankful to know that I have a doctor, a healer, who is so effective as well as kind and compassionate.

Dr. Kieffer is a gifted and skilled individual…read more Our daughter was born via induced labor two weeks early. At about two months old she started having problems with digestion, and was in obvious pain. Sometimes she would cry and then scream herself to sleep after eating. She was on breast milk and we tried different brands of formula and all sorts of combinations to try to ease her digestive problems. She would struggle and struggle to have a BM, her whole body tense and contracting, and when she did it was a small but non-productive explosion. She was born very content but her life was becoming a cycle of waking up hungry, eating, crying/screaming, and sleep. My wife and I were very concerned. We knew we had more than a "colicky" baby as out GP had told us. My wife committed herself to finding a solution and started researching the symptoms. It was a conversation with a friend of hers that brought up Osteopathy, as her friend's daughter had been relieved of acid reflux problems through Osteopathic treatment. My wife found Dr. Kieffer through an extensive search for DOs with specific abilities and familiarity with infants. Within minutes of sitting down with Dr. Kieffer I felt we were on the right path. Dr. Kieffer started out by asking about the pregnancy. She wanted to go back to learn what she could about our daughter's time in the womb. Obviously she wanted foundational information before determining a course of treatment, or if Osteopathic treatment was even an option. After a lengthy conversation she began examining our daughter. What happened next was awesome. Our tired, tense, fidgety infant "melted" in Dr. Kieffer's hands on the exam table as Dr. Kieffer worked her "magic". As she gently and slowly used her skilled and practiced hands to work with our daughter my confidence in our decision grew. Dr. Kieffer was soothing and comforting to our daughter and it was obvious our daughter was feeling relief immediately. That night after we got home from that very first visit our daughter had the best night of sleep she had since entering this world. So did we! We followed up with three more visits. Each time Dr. Kieffer used her skills, knowledge and ability to gently work with our daughter and each time we saw our daughter becoming a happier baby as a result. After the fourth visit Dr. Kieffer advised that our daughter seemed to be doing well and she didn't see a need for more treatments unless symptoms reappeared. We were prepared to go for treatment as long as it took. Obviously Dr. Keiffer isn't in this practice for the money, she genuinely wants to help people feel better. Now a little over four months old, our daughter is a very happy, healthy "normal" baby that sleeps like champ, has a healthy appetite, normal BMs, and is learning to laugh at silly faces and make a variety of funny noises. In my opinion Dr. Kieffer greatly improved our daughter's quality of life. As a parent I am very grateful for her skilled treatment of my daughter. If you or someone you know has a baby that is more than just a little colicky, or seems to be having trouble with digestion or sleep I very strongly recommend a consult with Dr. Kieffer.

(not hers, as she was not taking new patients at the time)-- instead, I went to see Dr. Kieffer, and I'm glad. Think holistic medicine, fully clothed treatments, and unbelievable results. I had suffered from allergies for almost my entire adult life. Two visits in, I ditched the inhalant, and I've been allergy-free since. Lower back pain? Gone. Now, I schedule a visit about once every six months for a check/tune-up, and I feel better than ever before. I'm a believer, and I think you will be too.

Dr Chen is a natural healer and amazing Osteopath, Acupuncture, Naturopathic/Holistic Doctor. My son was diagnosed with multiple food and environmental allergies. The stress of having a child with multiple food allergies is real. So we lived with EpiPens and food restrictions with him. It's not easy for us having a kid with peanuts, dairy, dog and cats allergies. We believe that Naturopaths improve health by treating the person holistically, tapping a person's own internal body, mind, and spirit resources. Our first visit session with Dr Chen was 30 mins consultation and 30mins trial treatments (acupuncture, osteopathic manipulation) She also gives us simple exercises at home, food recommendation and supplements/ lifestyle changes. My son feels better after the first treatment he had a restful sleep that night. Dr Chen also sent us follow up emails for post treatments recovery tips, and detox, nutrition and natural remedies such as medicinal herbs and foods rather than conventional drugs. I highly recommend this ND. Her office clinic has good vibes and positive energy! Located at Osteopathic Center for Children. However, she didn't take our insurance (HMO) but we can get it reimburse thru PT and Osteopathic bill. We will be coming back for another treatment for sure. They always answered the phone right away and he was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. He then referred me to the physical therapy office next door and that's where the issues began. Since the first time I called, nobody ever picks up, I called 20+ times in a span of 2 weeks and each time the automated phone system made me listen to a 5 minute message about the history of San Diego Sports Medicine and the different location's phone numbers and then would proceed to hang up on me. The few times it did let me leave a message, nobody ever got back to me. It seems like nobody works at the front desk for some reason. When they finally got back to me, they made an appointment for me with the specific PT that Dr.Koretoff had requested. I was 3 weeks out from the earliest appointment which was not ideal but I had no choice but to wait. When I finally received the appointment reminder the week before the appointment, it said that the appointment will be with someone else, and not the person I had made the appointment with. The person at the front desk even confirmed that it will be with the PT I requested but that's not what they inputted in the system. As a result, I now have to wait another week to start PT. They offered no way to reconcile the situation even though it was their fault, and basically the conclusion was "tough luck, you have to pay for our mistake." In a separate conversation with the front desk again, they were explaining to me the difference between paying out of pocket vs going through insurance. They gave me the out of pocket rate but said that they can't confirm what the cost will be with insurance until I come in so I explained my deductible and the terms on my coverage to get her advice, the answer I got verbatim was "I've explained to you over and over again and it doesn't seem like you're understand so I think I'm wasting my time here." WTF? She only explained to me once, and basically indirectly called me dumb and told me I'm wasting her time? That's no way to talk to any patient especially if I'm being respectful. This is absolutely unacceptable. I don't care if you're having a bad day, you shouldn't be talking to people like that period, let alone if your job is customer service. This is absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with any front desk/customer service. It's like they hate their jobs. Do you guys no vet people before hiring them?
