What a cool place! We visited this former pharmacy turned bar for an after dinner drink. I wasn't expecting all that much but the inside is so cool, service was great, and the drinks were fantastic! They even had a live jazz band playing this particular night which was a really nice surprise. We sat ourselves at one of the tables since the bar was all full. The bartender was nice enough to come round to us to take our orders instead of us having to go up to the bar. I ordered one of the seasonal specialty drinks called "Stache". It was cachaca, pistachio orgeat, lemon, meletti, and cherry bark vanilla bitters. I love pistachio and I love amaro so it seemed like a good direction for me to go in. The presentation wasn't much but I was really pleased with the flavor! It was one of those drinks I had to force myself not to chug because it was that drinkable. All my friends seemed to like their drinks too. We were only here for an hour or so but I'd definitely return the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

If you've been in Edgewater, you've likely driven by the condo-building where La Pharmacie is located. Who knew it would be in a residential building? It took a hot minute, but I finally made it in. I cannot say the experience was bad, but at the same time I don't find myself itching to stop back in. I had the opportunity to try the Ancestral and a Mint to Be. With the Ancestral, this one didn't do it for me. I am very familiar with Mellow Corn whiskey, and expected something more spirit forward with a little heat from the Chipotle-Adobo Syrup. As much as I hate to say it, I felt that this cocktail both was and fell flat. Not wanting to leave disappointed, and because I didn't want to look for a second bar that night, I ordered a Mint to Be. Now, when a friend orders mint-anything, I joke that they're ordering toothpaste-flavored-that-thing. That said, I am pleased to report that this one was decidedly not toothpaste flavored. Both the use of sweetness and mint was mild and pleasant. I also liked that this one was more spirit forward. At the same time, I wouldn't go as far as to say this is something I would order again. For lack of better terms, I felt it was a little plain. When it comes to the service, this too left a bit to be desired. It felt a little slow and inattentive, especially given that it wasn't very busy at the time. The best thing about the experience? Believe it or not, the Bar Mix. It was like a bougie-ish chex mix and pretty inexpensive at that. Not a bad way to get something in your stomach to slow down alcohol absorption. In terms of their vibe, it's unique in that it used to be a pharmacy (hence the name!). I do wish there was a little more memorabilia, but I suppose some is better than none. Final verdict: La Pharmacie had some good ideas, but in execution, I'm afraid they fall short across the board. This has to do with the service, vibe, and the drinks themselves. read more

We popped in here on a Saturday around. 10:45pm. My husband had been here before for work but it was my first time. The outside is cute, and don't be fooled - this is a cocktail bar and not an actual pharmacy! The interior is cute and not too loud - honestly a great date night spot. We walked up and sat at the bar. The seasonal cocktail menu was great and so fun!! We loved the stache cocktail that had pistachios in it; it was a light and refreshing drink! We also tried to Bananas du monde (riff on a sazerac) and the Amanita (interesting, earthy martini vibes). Chase our server was great and provided the best service!! We really enjoyed talking to him. when i first moved to chicago in 2022, i lived right across the street from la pharmacie and would often come in after work to read with a nice cocktail/glass of wine. especially during the winter it was the perfect place to stop by and grab a hot toddy and hang out alone romanticizing my new life in the city. the bartenders were always friendly and good conversationalists, and you can tell that they all take great pride in the bar overall. i moved around while living in chicago but no other cocktail bar i found matched what la pharmacie gave me in terms of quality, and i love the novelty you can enjoy with their seasonal cocktail menu. the cocktails aren't cheap but i can guarantee they're worth it, and i think this would be a wonderful and romantic date destination, although i've enjoyed it the most coming alone. i moved out of chicago a few weeks ago but had to come back to la pharmacie one last time before leaving as part of my "goodbye chicago" tour. I got the "stache" seasonal cocktail and it was AMAZING! i would recommend la pharmacie (and i have) to absolutely anyone. it's definitely on my chicago must-try's and i can guarantee you won't be disappointed with any of the cocktails on the menu. read more

A what gem of a cocktail bar found in Edgewater. Turned bar from an old pharmacy, this place has a unique ambiance that is both welcoming and intriguing. Definitely can see bringing a buddy or two to have a good conversation over better drinks! These bartenders really know their stuff. There is a rotating menu that the bartenders craft. If you're not sure what some of the ingredients are (which I know maybe 10% of them) they will be more than happy to inform you. If you don't know what you want, they would be more than happy to guide you! I got a variety of drinks and there was not one that did not hit the spot. Did I mention the food? Well they say big surprises come in small packages and La Pharmacie is no exception to the rule. This bar is located in the Edgewater Beach Apartment building, the big pink building you can see from Lake Shore Drive. The bar was at one time an actual pharmacy, serving the community and apartment complex. Looking around the décor, you can see old vestiges of when it was a working pharmacy. That said, this is a small bar with limited seating because it was originally designed as a pharmacy where people walked in and out. There is a bar, a large communal table that seats eight, two high tops that seat four, a bench along the wall with small tables that could seat maybe three, and what looks like to be an outdoor bistro patio seating for four in the window. My first impression walking into the joint was that I was in some small bar in Paris. It was just a vibe I got based on my past experiences. Honestly I had no idea this place existed. From the outside, the storefront windows looked more like a museum piece, with displays showing items from back in the day when the pharmacy was open as well as other items from that time period. So imagine my surprise when a co-worker of The Doctor's recommended this place. So glad she did. The overall atmosphere is adorable and the type of intimate settings that I like. Because of the location, parking will be tough as this is located on Sheridan Road and Bryn Mawr. There is a small frontage road next to the hotel that is separated from Bryn Mawr going to LSD, but good luck parking there. While I did luck out and get a spot, I don't expect that to happen the next time I go. I have located a couple of places around the bar where I could do Spot Hero next time for $6 and will just do that to avoid the stress of trying to park I am not a cocktail person, but The Queen was very impressed with their selections. She ended up getting a Shibuya Crossing (Matcha, Gin, Midori, Lime, Lemon, Honey-Ginger Syrup, Ginger Beer). I am not a fan of matcha, so I did not like it, but The Queen had three and was going for a fourth one, but they did not have any more matcha. She switched to The Madison (Tequila, Ginger Liqueur, Lavender Syrup, Lemon, topped with Prosecco Rose) and enjoyed that one as well. This one I did like very much. For food, the menu is small and ever changing. When The Doctor's co-worker mentioned this place, she spoke about these great meatballs that they have...those were not on the menu, but they did have these great tacos which is what we ordered: Chipotle BBQ Beef (with chipotle aioli), Shrimp Tempura (with spicy mayo) and the Pulled Pork (with cilantro-lime crema). All were $5 each and very good. Have to say that the BBQ Beef was my favorite, very flavorful. We also got a fig and bacon flatbread, which was lovely as well. The dollop of ricotta was a nice complementary addition to the flatbread. We later discovered that the cocktail and bites menu is constantly changing, so what is on there now may be different down the road. This was definitely a lovely discovery for us and definitely will make the rotation list of place for us to hang out. Service was nice and our server, Curtis, was attentive and friendly. With the closure of the Signature Room, The Queen was thinking that this could be a new chill hangout for her. But we will be back. read more

This cute cocktail bar is right off the corner where you enter Lakeshore drive off of Bryn Mawr so it may be easy to miss. With that being said, it can be tough to find parking in Edgewater, but this spot is definitely a gem for locals who live in the area. This place maintained the integrity of an old pharmacy while still making the ambience very cozy and cafe-like. Food was surprisingly good and cocktail list has a lot to choose from with a lot of unique ingredients. There were 2 of our cocktails that tasted too similar, but overall a nice spot to chat with some friends over drinks. On top of that service was super attentive and welcoming. read more

I love accidentally finding unique little spots. La Pharmacie is just that. Set on street level of the iconic pink high rise Edgewater Beach Apartments, this vintage pharmacy turned night spot, takes you back to the roaring twenties instantly. The rounded front window, black & tan floor, classic bar and original pharmacy cabinetry brings you back to a time where fun was number one. When I walked to the ladies restroom the long hallway that has not been touched, I saw classic elegance. Still pristine, it lead me to the restroom that was also lost in time. Just lovely. The food menu is on the small side but offered delicious bites. We tried a variety of tacos and loved them. The specialty craft cocktail menu is diverse. Fun names and quality ingredients wowed both me and my friend. The two bartenders and server were all very friendly. The chatted us up about the vision for La Pharmacie and the history behind the location. They really made our experience even better. Street parking is sparse but there is a public parking garage attached to the building. I saw a bus stop too. The beautiful history that shines through every inch of this unique spot brings you back, allowing good times instantly. I cannot wait to return. read more

Fate brought me here after a delicious dinner at Blowfish. Blowfish had just closed for the evening and my friends and I wanted to stay out a little longer and grab some drinks. La Pharmacie was only about 2 blocks away. We braved the winter winds and briskly walked over. The decor here is very cool. I'm an interior design noob but it's kind of an industrial-meets-art deco vibe. Cocktails are out of this world. Classics and new flavor mixes abound. I ordered a What's Up Doc that used carrot juice. I'm also a sucker for cocktails that use Earl Grey tea. I had one that had a splash of cream. I can't recall the name but I'm sure it was equally as clever. Fun fact/pro tip: La Pharmacie is in a historical building and is therefore grandfathered in under previous fire safety laws. So the external door opens in. Keep that in mind when you're stumbling out several cocktails later! read more

Cutest little cocktail and small bites bar located on a busy intersection. No real available parking but we finally found a spot. Located in the old Edgewater Beach hotel complex. This was an original pharmacy and still had many of the original features. Servers were helpful and the cocktails were delightful. Had a very French atmosphere that was slightly spoiled by the loud rock music they chose to play. By the looks of the clientele, whom were older, French jazz would've been more appropriate, especially in the afternoon when we visited. We commented about the music one or two times and no changes were made, even though this is a new bar striving to get new business. Also, it was hard to tell if this business was really open because the windows were all so dirty inside and out. But if they just tweak these little changes, it will really be a lovely spot. The bar area is delightful and I could imagine spending lots of time drinking wine at this bar if the music was more appropriate. The bartender made perfect cocktails with fresh tasting ingredients and the one I had, even had a real flower clipped to the side of it from the florist shop, which was a couple of doors down. The vegan tacos I had were delightful as well. I can't wait to return and see them improve and grow. read more

Guys, there's a new hip joint in town! A cocktail bar / restaurant in the famous 'pink hotel' or Edgewater Beach Apartments. Fun affordable drinks and unique dishes in a historic space! Great people watching from the huge picture window on the corner and awesome old historic built-ins with movable ladders. The space is so cool, I can imagine Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra sitting down the bar from me enjoying a classic cocktail!
