While I was putting my left over food into a to go box, I asked the waitress if she would please come back and I wouldn't do it when I was finished. She told me she had already taken my card, ran it and now I had timed out an I didn't put on a tip! In fact said " it's too late now " instead I went up to the register with the receipt. she said that in front of other people standing around! Several people looked up from their table with a look like I can't believe she just said that to you. My husband and I felt this was very rude and unprofessional. We are in the industry so we know the importance of gratuities, but she needs to be reminded it's up to the consumer not her as to if she'll get tipped and the percentage of. Absolutely terrible experience at Roger's. First off, the biscuits were dry, crumbly, and had zero flavor. The so-called "gravy" was basically a smear at the bottom of the container -- barely enough to cover half a biscuit, let alone make a meal out of it. We called in the order and were told 15 minutes for pickup. That seemed reasonable, but we ended up waiting nearly an entire hour before the food was finally handed to us. The only update I was given was that they had to make more gravy for the order because they didn't have enough on hand. By the time we got the food, not only was it cold, but it wasn't even worth eating. Dry biscuits, almost no gravy, and the feeling that they just don't care about the quality of our experience/food. Heading down to Ashland, needed some fuel. I love everything about diner culture. It's a real slice of Americana, or at least an old Americano. These sorts of places are filled with local so you get a sense of an area better than more slick places. And the food is as close to an old American cuisine as you have it. We came in for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning, and service was quick, friendly, and professional. My brother-in-law and I can drink our weight in coffee each morning, and coffee was the first thing that arrived at the table and never stopped coming. We arrived right in the middle of the mid-morning rush, but there was a table available right when we arrived, the food was fast and fresh, and our server was attentive and friendly. This place was clearly full of regulars that gave the place a wonderful feeling - I'm from out of state and I love experiencing places the locals love. Many local patrons were happily enjoying their meals and company. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in my Veggie Omelet. It consisted of lots of raw onion, raw green pepper, tomato, canned mushrooms and black olives. No one likes uncooked veggies, especially onions, wrapped in a barely warm omelet. The Hashbrowns were also undercooked. I was told the Eggs Benedict was pretty good though. I would try this restaurant again, but definitely order something else, maybe a big cinnamon roll I noticed the older crowd enjoying. The restaurant itself was outdated with basic table and chairs. I hadn't been to Roger's in over a decade and not much has changed... it still looks like I remember it. It definitely has a greasy spoon home cooking sort of vibe. We sat ourselves quickly and almost immediately were greeted with water, menus and utensils. The restaurant was nearly full so the quick greeting was a good sign. The menu has a variety of typical breakfast fare. My daughter ordered pancakes and bacon, Mrs. ordered a taco omelette and I ordered the eggs Benny, because that's what I do. I also ordered a cinnamon roll. The atmosphere is pretty casual. Lots of conversations but the noise was not crazy. We could have a conversation at our table without being too distracted. My coffee was good, but not great. After 13 minutes our order arrived. The food looked good. And I was so hungry I didn't remember to take photos... ‍ So, the food, looked god but had a few issues. The taco omelette was greasy and the onion was not cooked so it had a level of heat that was out of balance with the rest of the fillings... a little sauté would have toned them down quite a bit. My eggs Benny was good but the hollandaise was salty and had a strong lemon flavor... which happens sometimes but it was a little over the top. The pancakes and bacon were good but the server forgot to bring syrup. After being asked twice it never showed up. When we were ready to go the waitress realized the mistake and took the pancakes off the bill without being prompted and was genuinely sorry. The cinnamon roll was tasty. All in all it's an alright place to get breakfast but I'm not sure if and/or when I will return. The bill was $36 and seemed in line with other breakfast places. On top of the nostalgic late 80s, early 90s diner setting, their food is delicious! All the food is amazing, but they specialize in breakfast, and it shows. They have terrific service, they keep my coffee cup full, don't have to wait long on orders, and they get to know ya after you have been coming there to eat for a bit. This place is the epitome of a small town "Ma & Pa's" place. This doesn't mean this type of place is for everyone. Daily breakfast specials for under $7.... includes coffee. You can have gravy added to your hashbrowns for free. You can choose a biscuit as your bread and have gravy added to that for free as well!
