Staff is extremely knowledgable and attentive regarding an individual's particular needs. These guys also live and breathe their sport. Abbey, the Store Pup is also friendly and fun. It starts with an analysis (via a video supported treadmill) of your walking pattern and continues from there with well guided conversations and fittings from there. As Kevin S mentioned before, this store can be appreciated by all, not just runners. While it's obviously a specialty runners' store, the breadth of their knowledge makes their staff helpful to people from all walks of life. Unlike the minimum-wage drones at places such as Foot Locker and the like, the folks at RVR clearly know their sport, and what gear works. So whether you're just working to get off the couch, or training up for your first marathon, RVR's staff will get you outfitted properly. I can't say it enough -- their staff is ultra-friendly and helpful. If you're in need of it, they also offer gait analysis as well. That way, you know for sure if the shoes you're rocking are in fact appropriate for you. They have the usual selection of brands -- Nike, Adidas, Brooks, Asics, Mizuno, Vibram, etc., as well as all manner of running apparel, as well as the various accessories a runner would need -- knee braces, iPod slings, foam rollers, etc. Prices are generally competitive as well, which is a huge bonus. As much as it's ideal to support local business, sometimes local businesses mark things up so much it's hard not to look to Amazon instead. Fortunately, RVR keeps prices competitive, making it easy to choose to buy from them. Great store. My only quibble is that like most businesses in the area, their hours aren't nearly as compatible with my late-rising schedule. They close way too early! But it's a minor quibble given all the other positives. read more

You don't need to be a runner to enjoy this store. But, if you are a runner, they have a fantastic selection of specialized running shoes and apparel that is hard to find elsewhere. Brands that bigger less dedicated places just don't stock. There is a separate men and womens section along with accessories such as socks, hydration systems, power gels, etc. And, being in Oregon there is no sales tax! Yippie! The friendly staff know their stuff and seem to all be runners themselves. I bought a neat pair of inov-8 trail running shoes in the Black Friday sale, normally $100, at 30% off with no sales tax for $66, a freaking deal. Recommended. read more

I wore out my main running shoes and decided to try the Nike Wildhorse model at REI where I had a credit. The store didn't carry that model nor did nearby Dick's Sporting so I took the long drive to Ashland. The salesperson at RVR said he didn't have the shoe in my size and recommended the Saucony Exodus 3 as an excellent shoe that lasted longer the the old Nike model I was replacing. The shoe looked good and felt good: I bought it. At home, I opened the Saucony website for more information on the shoe. (Are you old enough to remember back in the 20th Century when runnings shoes had lots of information on the box and tags--now all you get is name and size.) The shoe was not on the Saucony website: the shoe was discontinued, replaced by the Exodus 10. I emailed Rogue Valley Runners that I had been sold a discontinued shoe and should't it be discounted. Shortly the reply came and offered a 25% discount which I received the next day at the store. Definitely five star customer service. read more

I went here to get socks today and had an awful experience. The sales guy had an oddly hostile attitude when we walked in but seemed to get more helpful when I asked for advice on running socks. He kept getting increasingly rude until someone from the back room said something to him and he just walked away from me. I left without socks. My husband was going to look for a hydration pack but he didn't want to deal with the rude guy. We were the only customers in there so he wasn't just busy. He was condescending and talked to me like he thought I had never run. The only reason I didn't give this one star is because I was here about six years ago and had a great experience. read more

Then he brought out three pairs of shoes that all fit incredibly well and I found the perfect pair in ten minutes flat. Drove here from Brookings because it's the closest running store to us. I wasn't disappointed in the amazing customer service but I was disappointed in the selection I had to choose from because they were limited in women's 91/2. I guess if they know that is a popular size they should order more of them?! Left with a men's Hoka's (which I love) and a pair of Saucony's which after taking out for a spin today feel was a mistake. I wouldn't hesitate going back though! I bought a pair of Brooks Pure Grit 4 shoes here and I am satisfied with them. I got excellent service and the saleswoman was very patient as I tried on 10 pairs of shoes. However, I saw online when I got home that the Pure Grit 5 had just come out, and they didn't tell me in the store. I would've waited to buy the newer shoes if I knew they were already shipping. I also wish they sold Altra shoes, as they are the best brand for trail running shoes in my opinion. read more

I do want to say that the service here was great, the employee was very knowledgeable and the store was nice and neat. My biggest reason for the low rating is the prices. They do not reflect current market prices at all. RVR had my shoes for $100, I find them at another store on clearance for $70, and online for $45. My husband's shoes were $115 at RVR and $70 online. That's a $100 savings between the two of us. If we didn't live 45 minutes away, we'd have returned them and purchased them online. Both of our shoes are "older" models (i.e. the next version of the shoe is already out), hence why they were so cheap everywhere else. Just be aware of the model and prices, unless you like to spend extra money when you don't need to. read more
