My favorite store in Ashland is a place called Get 'n Gear, which offers used sportswear and equipment. In an upscale community like Ashland, the hand-me-downs are more like hand-me-ups, at least to a poor boy like me. Typically, I spend some cursory minutes flipping indifferently in the men's clothing rack. But it's in the women's department where I spend most of my time. The reason? Women are more discriminating shoppers than men, and their products are invariably better. In addition, sportswear is generally unisex, except for pink. Take this little number from New Balance for instance. The fabric alone is something you just don't find in men's garments. It's a near-microscopic twill on the outside with a flat finish inside, save for the finest of brushings to feel privately luxurious against your skin. The fabric also drapes beautifully, without hitching up on under-layers like leggings. Note the reflective piping on the outer thighs for safety. Two discreet onseam side pockets give you a way to securely stow valuables. The left has an attached emergency tab with space for a personal note like "Hi. I'm T.J. I'm dead. Better luck on your next one!" Ten-inch calf zippers, also artfully concealed, slip easily over most athletic shoes. When left open they provide a nautical flair, just like something the jaunty little sailor on a box of Cracker Jacks might wear. Let's not forget the waist treatment: Brief and to the functional point of holding up your pants, with a coordinating drawstring to get the fit just right. Men's elastic waists typically are quite domineering in their chunkiness. It's beyond me who would want an extra roll of girth around their middle. But oh well, all the more women's apparel for me. The price was right in the meaty middle of my past purchases. Nine bucks. I had twelve bucks in store credit. Who could resist? So that's it. My son and I had a day to kill before returning East from my business trip. I called the "big" bike rental place and they had no bikes to rent, and didn't have an idea who might given the bike shortage (this being COVID/Delta time). We had passed Get N Gear the night before on a late afternoon walk and given the hour, they were closed. Since we didn't remember the name we took a chance and walked over and not only did they have bikes to rent, they were very reasonable, friendly, unpretentious and happy to see us. They spent the time to make sure the bikes fit us, got my son a helmet, and locks for both the bikes. The paperwork was minimal and we were soon off to explore Ashland, despite the heat and smoke. We will definitely be renting bikes there the next time we're in the area. read more

I have also sold with them , they are generous and work well with sellers. Get N Gear saved my Sunday. I was in Ashland for the weekend and looking forward to biking the Bear Creek Greenway. To my great disappointment, the rental shops I had scouted turned out to be closed Sundays. I searched some more and found this friendly, funky shop - open, with bikes to rent. I didn't catch the owner's name, but he was totally kind and helpful. He quickly fitted us with gear and steered us to the Greenway, even recommending a tasty lunch spot. His store also offers a range of new and used gear to get you outdoors on a budget. Very glad we could support his business and enjoy a beautiful day on the trail. read more

Don't go there. Bought a bike brand new have had 3 problems and only rode it 2. Don't know if it's person who put it together or they just have cheap bikes but between the service and equipme t I'd rather shop at Walmart and I haven't shopped there for 5 years! A great way to see and get around Ashland is by bicycle. Get N Gear is the only reasonable way you can rent a bike in Ashland. They're down in the Railroad District and very easy to find. The staff are terrific-- friendly, helpful and easy to work with. read more

AThe owner and matt are awesome, Zoe has good days and bad days is sometimes a little rude and needs better guidance in prices of articles u bring in to sell. But all around the place is awesome... Also if its 6:35 pm and a person shows up to sell some things after biking all the way across town they should not be told that she is not buying anymore because she's about to close. With 25 minutes left she should ha s helped me out. And not treated me as if i was bothering her. Customer service should be number one priority!!! read more

Get n Gear is the most helpful fun used and new sporting goods store around. Doesn't matter what you're looking for.. camping stuff, boating stuff, ice skates, you name it. I love it that they recycle and resell nearly everything under the sun. They truly care about the environment. I have been shopping, trading with this shop for more than 8 years. I love snooping around the shop on a regular basis. Every time I go in there are new and fun surprises. It's just plain fun. I usually find what I'm after and they've even ordered things for me at a cheaper price than I can get elsewhere. The owner Greg, and his staff have gone out of their way for me on more than one occasion. It truly is about as good as it gets. Location is very near the Bear Creek Bike trail. The selection of bikes is huge and the three we took were all in excellent shape. We needed water bottles and they "loaned" us some. Not sure they even charged for the helmets or the bike chains. Wonderful, friendly, helpful people. They're the best. read more

Fun place to shop, but you need patience, there's a lot to sift through. You can usually find a deal if you're thorough. I have founds two Electra Cruisers there, in good condition, at reasonable rates. A plus might be to clean up the front, as it's a bit overwhelming to eyeball a ride-able bike in the disarry of bikes. Less is more type thing. read more

Get'n'Gear is an excellent used adventure gear store and a fantastic bike repair shop. The people who work there are always friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. They have really reasonable rates for bike repair, and they have some really quality adventure gear for a great price. I got a pair of nearly brand new Asolo hiking boots there that retail for around 250 bucks for about 50. Love this place! read more
