My favorite store in Ashland is a place called Get 'n Gear, which offers used sportswear and equipment. In an upscale community like Ashland, the hand-me-downs are more like hand-me-ups, at least to a poor boy like me. Typically, I spend some cursory minutes flipping indifferently in the men's clothing rack. But it's in the women's department where I spend most of my time. The reason? Women are more discriminating shoppers than men, and their products are invariably better. In addition, sportswear is generally unisex, except for pink. Take this little number from New Balance for instance. The fabric alone is something you just don't find in men's garments. It's a near-microscopic twill on the outside with a flat finish inside, save for the finest of brushings to feel privately luxurious against your skin. The fabric also drapes beautifully, without hitching up on under-layers like leggings. Note the reflective piping on the outer thighs for safety. Two discreet onseam side pockets give you a way to securely stow valuables. The left has an attached emergency tab with space for a personal note like "Hi. I'm T.J. I'm dead. Better luck on your next one!" Ten-inch calf zippers, also artfully concealed, slip easily over most athletic shoes. When left open they provide a nautical flair, just like something the jaunty little sailor on a box of Cracker Jacks might wear. Let's not forget the waist treatment: Brief and to the functional point of holding up your pants, with a coordinating drawstring to get the fit just right. Men's elastic waists typically are quite domineering in their chunkiness. It's beyond me who would want an extra roll of girth around their middle. But oh well, all the more women's apparel for me. The price was right in the meaty middle of my past purchases. Nine bucks. I had twelve bucks in store credit. Who could resist? So that's it. Thank you for your patience, and if you were planning to buy me a gift anytime soon, please remember: I'm a Women's Medium.

So I read a prior review of someone who drove from the SF Bay Area to pick up a bike from these…read morefolks, and can concur - great experience! I was trying to pick up a couple of Specialized Turbo Kenevo bikes and most everywhere was out-of-stock because of the big sale they were having ($9000 MSRP down to $5800). Eventually did get what I wanted - but could only have them delivered and was shopping around for a great shop to set them up, test ride and go. Well, found the folks at Siskiyou Cyclery. Usually I'm heading further north to Medford, but the plan was to also enjoy Oregon and take a visit to Crater Lake. These folks are conveniently located near middle of Ashland. They're on a main road so you will have an easy time finding them (and turning around if you miss). Parking is nice - there's two spots on the road in front of the shop, parking in the back and next door parking if you have a larger vehicle as well. Inside, it's a bike shop. Nothing fancy. What is nice is that while I was waiting, I saw one mom bring her kids (6?) bike in because of a flat. I saw another guy just wander in needing a derailleur. Very low-key and friendly in terms of "sure, drop it off and come back this afternoon" and no, I didn't feel I was being blown off while they got those folks in and out. When I was picking up the Kenevo's, engaged in light conversation and they knew their stuff. "What is the bottom bracket of the e-bike?" or "what is the largest chain ring I can run?" plus they got into the conversation of what e-bike rules are locally, which varies crazily for USDA and USFS along NP land. Grabbed a bike, after it being set up and went for a quick ride. You can go right out the door, and then right again to head towards Starbucks. You can stay on that same road the shop is on for a long and level ride. You can go straight out and head up some minor inclines (not 10 ring stuff, but middle cog, haha) Paperwork was easy, in and out basically. You're not going to be stuck there while they treat you like a baby explaining how the dropper seat post works, or how to charge up your e-bike - unless you want to be. Overall, because "Oregon" and "Ashland" convenience, this is a great shop to stop by, get repairs or parts, and enjoy the Ashland scenery!

I found that I was leaning heavily on my hands and was causing bicyclist palsy. It was suggested that I have new handle bars installed so I would have to lean forward so much and my bicyclist palsy has disappeared!
