Most of my at-home vehicle maintenance is generally done during weird hours to avoid the watchful eyes of the HOA rule crew. In most situations, I've given up and simply take my car to the mechanic; paying for labor and hoping the work is done correctly. This past weekend, I visited Shadetree for the first time. There are four open bays (two with lifts) and tons of tools. The shop is heated (nice when its cold outside), and the owner is super helpful (side note: Ask him about his track days.) Being able to change out the transmission and diff fluids, on one of their lifts, in a heated garage during winter, was easly worth the bay rental change (the prices are more than reasonable.) I've always done my own maintenance on all my vehicles except when I know I can't handle the job myself. The one time I needed work done I took it here and they did an excellent job at a reasonable price. But while I've waited for my inspection, Ive seen a lot of interactions there. From what I've heard, they've always told people what is wrong, but have always advised them of alternative for what was needed, such as a less expensive option or if it can wait a while. This to me being a mechanic myself is the proof of a honest shop.

I specifically told Scott that I only wanted to perform the repairs that were absolutely necessary. When he said the vehicle needed mufflers, I told him I would rather replace them myself because I wanted something nicer than inexpensive aftermarket mufflers.Over the course of several conversations, my wife and I repeatedly asked Scott what type of mufflers would be installed. We didn't ask once--we asked multiple times because this was important to us. My wife even specifically asked if they would be Ford OEM mufflers. Based on those conversations, we came away with the clear understanding that Ford OEM mufflers would be installed. That understanding is the reason I authorized Hanover Lube & Brake to perform the work instead of purchasing and installing the mufflers myself.When I picked up the vehicle on July 21, I had an unpleasant interaction with the new manager, Mike. Because the shop was already closed, I was told I had to sign the invoice before I could receive my keys, so I wasn't able to thoroughly inspect the vehicle until after I left.When I stopped for gas, I immediately noticed that inexpensive aftermarket mufflers had been installed instead. One of the pipes was dented, and the mufflers already had surface rust. That was the exact situation I had tried to avoid from the beginning.I texted the shop that evening to express my concerns. The following morning, Mike told me they had installed "OEM fitment" parts. That was the first time anyone had used the phrase "OEM fitment." It was not the understanding my wife and I believed we had after our conversations with Scott regarding Ford OEM mufflers.After I had time to cool down, I tried to reach a reasonable compromise. I asked if they would provide and install a pair of exhaust tips so the aftermarket mufflers would at least have a more factory appearance. Instead, I was told that if I purchased the tips myself, they would install them. I wasn't looking for an expensive repair or anything extravagant--I was simply hoping they would make some effort to address a situation that I believe resulted from the misrepresentations made during the estimate process.What disappoints me most isn't simply that aftermarket mufflers were installed. It's that I made my decision based on what my wife and I understood after repeatedly asking what parts would be used. Had I known aftermarket mufflers were going to be installed, I would have purchased and installed the mufflers I wanted myself. Between the communication surrounding the repair, the customer service I experienced afterward, and the unwillingness to offer a meaningful resolution, I cannot recommend Hanover Lube & Brake. If you choose to do business here, get every promise about parts in writing, ask for the manufacturer and part numbers on your estimate before authorizing repairs, and inspect the work carefully before leaving the shop. The really funny part is, that after I tried so hard to work with the shop, they said I was just looking for something for free. Go figure. At least they stayed in character. In 40 years of dealing with probably close to 100 repair shops, this is absolutely the WORST experience I have ever had. BEWARE of the new management

They were waiting for me when I got there. Water pumped had failed. Parts store closed. Gave me a ride to a nearby motel. By the time I walked to the shop after breakfast Saturday morning truck was already on the rack with a new pump getting installed. Guys were as helpful as I could have asked, clearly already busy but in my circumstance worked to get me on the road as fast as possible, and the cost was better than fair. Can't thank them enough.

We needed to have a vehicle towed after it was unable to be started. We called AAA and they sent…read moreout a tow truck from this company. The time it took for him to arrive was acceptable. That's where anything positive ended. First, he was rough with the vehicle, hitting the chains against it and handling it like it was a junker. He worked very quickly but not carefully. The garage was 3.2 miles from where the vehicle was towed from. The driver claimed he made a "wrong turn" and the trip ended up being just over 3.5 miles, which isn't a huge issue except he could charge more for going over the half mile mark. That short of a distance from start to finish should not result in a "wrong turn." The garage we had it towed to requested the vehicle be placed at a certain place. The tow truck driver was uncooperative with this request, and placed it where he felt like placing it. As he was removing our vehicle from the tow bed, he did not fully lower the bed and dropped our vehicle a foot onto the ground, causing the rear wheels to bottom out. Completely unacceptable. While we did file a complaint with AAA and the tow company, the tow company was just a single entity and the driver was the owner, who did not offer any kind of apology. In fact, he hung up mid-discussion. I would never trust my vehicle to this company for anything. The kind of service we received was rude and disrespectful. We've had other tows from AAA which were wonderful and when the time comes to need one again, we will be sure to request that this company NOT be dispatched. Treating someone's personal property so poorly creates a very negative image. I want to share this so that others' don't suffer the same experience.

My truck was in rough shape a shock was bouncing around and rusty crossmembers, old crusty fuel lines. After CMP's magic my truck runs as good as when I first got it, while being swamped with work my truck was done in a timely fashion and Paul communicated everything that might need to be done or what he thinks would be the best option. A few years ago, something starting rattling under my hood so bad to the point where I couldnt stand the noise anymore and finally went to a local dealership. I was tight on money at the time and my heart sank when I was told that it would cost me $500 to fix... at that point, I was damn near ready to just trash my car completely. Wanting a second opinion, I reached out to Paul. He told me to swing by his shop and let him take a look at it. When I got there, he was in the middle of working on another vehicle but he dropped what he was doing to come over and take a look. He started laughing and shaking his head, took his wrench, tightened a bolt for me and the noise instantly went away. I tried to pay him something for his time but he refused. Most auto shops could care less about you as a person; they just want their money. And if you're someone who is ignorant in that area such as I am, they're going to find a way to get it. We took our 2001 Blazer ZR2 4x4 to James for a diagnosis of what seemed to be a limp mode issue and…read moreit turned out to be a clogged catalytic converter. While doing further diagnosis on the Blazer James noticed the Rear Shackles on the leaf springs were so rusted it was a safety hazard and they could break at anytime. I asked James to install a complete exhaust system, new shocks, ignition coil, rotate the tires and he gladly accepted every job. He was very nice and scheduling a time to meet with him was also great because unlike other shops he made himself available to suit my schedule which is almost unheard of these days. He was also kind enough to repair a tire on my truck that was going flat. He said bring it out asap and he would fix it and in 15 minutes he had the self tapping screw removed and a rubber tire plug installed. You just don't expect this type of service these days but James is one of the few great people still putting people first. His work is top quality and he works on minor and major repairs as if his family was going to be riding in every vehicle he services. His prices are extremely reasonable and I believe he will match or beat any written quote you receive from other mechanics. I usually don't give reviews for anything but I decided to so hopefully other people who want to be treated fairly will give James a chance. Trust me, you won't regret the old fashioned service from a very knowledgeable guy.

I was not pleased with the work that place did on my clutch nor the price. So when they quoted me $2k for an AC compressor install, that was the last straw. Dan not only quoted me an extremely lower price but worked with me to get my car in quickly during the hottest part of July to get it fixed. He's an honest and knowledgeable mechanic and he now has my business for life. Go to Musselman's for all your car maintenance and repairs!
