We ate here for dinner on the first night of Birmingham Restaurant Week. We had sampled their jambalaya at the Preview Party a few days prior and enjoyed it, so we were eager to taste the rest of the menu. Our server was kinda busy that day, and took awhile to check back on us after we ordered our drinks, so we gave her grace. One of the bartenders walked around with sample shots of the special drink they made for Restaurant Week. My guy took it and said he enjoyed it. They had a several specials for the week. I ordered the one that came with an appetizer (Boudin ball and egg roll) , entree (Jambalaya was my choice) with three sides (gumbo, dirty cabbage and Mac and cheese) and dessert (I selected the southern kin cheesecake to celebrate National Cheesecake Day!) My guy ordered the jambalaya entree with Mac and cheese and dirty cabbage. My guy's entree came out way ahead of mine. Like 15-20 minutes before. I'm assuming that was due to the appetizers I ordered with the special. However because he's nice, he let me eat off of his plate. It was kinda weird because technically we ordered the same thing but I guess they wanted the appetizers to come out first, which was only a few minutes before the main dish came out. However....none of this was relevant after I tasted my food. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious! Every. Single. Thing. Seasoned like my mama was in the kitchen. Perfect in every way. The dirty cabbage was incredible! The jambalaya was even better than what we had sampled a few days earlier. My guy agreed that the food was some of the best we've had in the city. What put the icing on the cake was the owner. He is so full of flavor and personality and puts a lot of love into his business and it shows. He took the time to walk and chat with every table and even shared some of his story with us on the business. I appreciated his hospitality and made sure to rave about it to him before we left. Easily earns my 5 stars!

My friends and I stopped in for happy hour last week. The boudin was amazing--truly an authentic Cajun recipe. The egg rolls were also very good and well seasoned. I didn't love the crab dip, but the bread served with it was really good. They had Music Bingo with great prizes, which we really enjoyed. The owner even came over and chatted with us. This place has been on my list for about a month, so that was pretty cool. The staff was friendly, fun, and welcoming. My friend ordered a Gold Rush, and the little glass was less than half full, with one large block of ice. The waitress assured her that was the correct pour, which seemed a little odd. Oh--and the restroom is really nice!

This is definitely where the locals go. There has been some shade thrown at this place, but I think you just need to enter and enjoy with the expectation that it is a popular hang out with great food and atmosphere, not a place to run in for a quick bite. Order, enjoy the scene and the company that came with you. The staff were super friendly, generous with their time and, though we were just passing through Birmingham, they made us feel very welcome. We sampled as much of the menu we could and wish we had a reason to return soon. It was clear that the staff are members of the broader food community and connected to the local culture. The place was filled with friends and family, live music, and good food. I understand food pretty well, but this is a somewhat new genre to me, wasn't disappointed in anything. Flavors were balanced, portions appropriate, and I wish we had come earlier so I could have done the buffet with the slow cooked alligator.

Well Matt, you earned that 5th star! It was great seeing you and your staff tonight at Birmingham Restaurant week at The Theodore! Kudos for bringing the most samples out of everyone there. I didn't need to sample your boudin, but I did walk away like a hungry little nutria! Your sausage jambalaya was spot on. Your Nani's crawfish bisque had hints of an etoufee which I love and that crabmeat dip?!? Oh my... Yom Yom Yom Yom! You were hands down my favorite tonight! Thanks for bringin' IT! I still wanna try your shrimp poboy! Geaux RCB!

I looked this place up for something new and it did not disappoint. This food was so good and I tried something new, too. The owner came over and shared his story with so much love. Anna was working the room with a smile. The place has a New Orleans flare with live music at times. It really gets 4.5

Cajun Boudin has a great atmosphere, and Matt the manager is always friendly and welcoming. I love the live music and bands they bring in. The crawfish can be really good and juicy, but the flavor isn't always consistent from visit to visit. Service can be a little slow getting the crawfish out, and the prices are a bit high. Overall, it's still a fun place to visit and enjoy some good entertainment.

    So good !

Amazing find at the North Pole Expo in Trussville , Alabama. The owner let me try a sample of the Spinach Articheaux, this had good flavor from the spinach and a nice crunch. I decided on the Jamblaya. The dish had it all, great flavor, rich base and just the right amount of heat to keep the proteins as the star. I also indulged on a piece of Southern Kin Cheesecake. Smooth and not too sweet this dessert was an additional hit. I think they might be opening a brick and mortar in Birmingham. If im ever back in the area, I will find Roll Cajun Boudin.

Why try one thing when you can try it all?? We studied the menu and could not decide because everything looked SO GOOD. So we got the platter with nearly everything! My favorites were definitely the crawfish étouffée, the jambalaya, and the spinach artichoke egg rolls, and my husband's favorites were the yard bird egg rolls and the boudin balls... Basically everything on the plate was a favorite! Great atmosphere, live music, fun place to be. This will certainly be a Birmingham staple, which makes sense when you're slinging the best Cajun food in Alabama!

Visited on a Friday at lunch. Wanted to try everything. Lunch menu is a bit confusing but the are still working out the menu. We had boudin egg roll, half link of voo doo boudin and jambalaya. Also tried the dirty cabbage. I loved the cabbage. Yes its boiled cabbage but with seasoning and sausage. Its really good. Go ahead and try it. Jambalaya was good, not too spicy, with chunks of chicken and sausage. Egg roll had chicken boudin in it and it was the best thing on my plate. The voo doo boudin was good. A sprinkling of Ball's Cajun Seasoning made it better. It was a good. We'll be back to try more stuff. Looking for some crawfish étouffée. This is a sit down server come table place.

Aside from them not having their liquor license, this was a cool experience. I popped by on a Friday evening to grab some crawfish. They were offering a pound for 9.50!! Insane , right!!! I had two pounds to go and they were delicious. With corn and potatoes. Whew!!! I could have literally eaten 5 lbs. Service was a little slow but extend grace since they are new. The bartender girl that helped me was really cool and hard working. I really expect great things from Roll Cajun boudin! The vibe is lively and definitely offers a Louisiana flair!! Im excited to explore more of their menu. I see this being one of my favorite restaurants in town.

***Veteran owned business alert** why yes, I will sit down for a meal. As a fellow Veteran, I am always encouraged to see a Veteran in the entrepreneurial space. Let's get to the food. Another Veteran and I stopped in for a catchup lunch. Lo and behold, behold and lo, we were there for a couple of hours catching up. The vibe was welcoming, fun and perfect for a family, friends or a business meetup. The menu was small but considering they had only been open for a couple of weeks, it was acceptable. My salad was good but the deliciousness of the sweet potatoes was so so good. It's like a sweet potato cobbler with just the right amount of sugar basted in butter. My friend ordered the gumbo and she loved it! The service was great. We received the right amount of attention. This place is just comfortable and relaxing. I can't wait to come back to try more menu items.

Ask the Community - Roll Cajun Boudin

Hoping to come around 8:30 tonight. Is it walk in and think we will be able to get a table?

    Beer, wine, or spirits?

Yeah , they offer all three.

Does this restaurant have table service?

We sure do! We have a full 100 foot bar as well as table service. On Sundays for our brunch we ask customers to check in and out at the bar but run full service every day.

The menu looked interesting but we weren't hungry at the time. He asked me to pull over and he would give me and my son some samples. We chatted for a few mins then he gave us both a homemade tortilla chip topped with smoked salmon a crawfish tail some roasted corn salsa and cheese sauce. My son doesn't eat seafood. Like at all. He ate tail first then devoured the rest. I did as well. I asked him if he wanted some nachos and he replied Yayyah (Lil Jon voice). So we got some kid nachos. He loved them and I snacked on his left overs which were delicious. When we got home later that evening I started looking for Leo on IG, yelp, etc. I saw he was grilling some patty pan squash topped with fresh Maine lobster. I told my wife he mentioned he made some fire vegetarian nachos so I headed back down to see if could catch him. There were several folks there when I arrived. Picking up slabs and fixins, plus some sandwiches. I saw the prime rib on his IG an it looked so good I had to try a wrap. He grilled up some fresh asparagus to top my wife's nachos as well. Everything was super fresh and delicious. The pepper sauce on my wrap was spicy and the roasted corn and prime rib were tender and smoky. It was an epic portion of food. No I mean seriously the vegetarian nachos could easily be an appetizer for 6-8 ppl. I am really excited to have met Leo and I can't wait to go back. He also mentioned that if I have clothing or shoes to donate his foundation needs them and he would take them there at the truck. I told him I would put a review up on yelp and be back soon. Birmingham Restaurant Week has ended and I am happy I got the chance to try some new places so I can tell you all about them. So let's get right into it. First up is The Lil Bougie Foodie INC. What brought me to them is what I saw written all over their food truck. It said Home of the Bougie burger, so I was very intrigued. So I ordered it after asking what all came on it. I don't fully remember what was all on it and unfortunately I tried to find it only but there is no description of it I could find so I'll do my best here. Like I said I ordered The Bougie Burger (A LA Cart). It had cheese, bacon, tomato, pickles, onions, lettuce, and bougie sauce. Oh and two smashed patties. This burger was good. In my own opinion it was lacking just a touch of season and I wish they had given me more of the sauce on the burger it was like I know it's there but wish I had more of it. Also I was disappointed I received bacon bits on my burger instead of actual slices of bacon (not sure what was going on there). Also on the picture it looks like there burgers were served with White American cheese but I received Yellow American (yes they taste different to me), don't get me wrong I love yellow American so it didn't bother me at all. Anyways this burger was very good would 100% get this again and can't wait to try what else they have on the menu. I give the burger a 8.9/10. If you see this food truck parked and serving gone head and hope in the line with me and everyone else because you are about to eat good! Be sure to follow them on social media too!

I asked her to please find out and I'd wait. In response she asked me what time I planned to come. I told her, 4pm. She responded, "YOU SHOULD BE FINE AROUND THEN." I was baffled and just asked for her name and ended the call ... We went to Courtyard 280 ‍ It just so happened that my friends picked SKA for brunch today, Saturday. I'd resolved that I was going for the company and would put all of my past experiences aside. My food experience had been prior the food truck and brick and mortar. So I was open to giving them a chance. I'm so so glad I did! They refer Saturday brunch as a Day Party. It's on the louder end of the spectrum, which is perfectly appropriate for a day party vibe. There was a DJ ... at some point my friend asked, Are they playing GloRilla?!? lol! I'm a fan so it was fine. Our waiter had great energy and he was attentive. The decor is nice. We ordered the mimosa flight. They were good, 4 flavors - strawberry, mango, blueberry, peach - not too sweet. I ordered shrimp and grits. The grits were thick (that's how I like them) and well seasoned. The shrimp was plentiful! was not over cooked at all. There was shrimp in most every bite. I'd recommend this. My friend ordered the fried catfish and grits and said she enjoyed it. The biscuit tasted canned - it wasn't needed though. This was a nice experience!

The catfish is made fresh to order which takes a little bit of time but the wait wasn't horrible. The fish was hot but just alright. The Cajun corn was just straight corn out of the can but I got it replaced with greens which were very tasty! The portion size is VERY tiny though for the price. The fries are frozen shoestring fries but the seasoning was very tasty! I want to try the chicken wings if they still have them whenever I come back to the Pizitz but no rush to get back.

Occupying the space previously used by Spoon and Ladle, Broad Street is next to Uno Tacos and across from J Wings. A native of New Orleans, Kelli Caulfield was raised in Birmingham and never forget her fondness for New Orleans food and culture. So much so that she started a New Orleans themed sno-ball "truck" called NOLA Ice in 2011. Six years later, she added another venture to her resume and started the Broad Street Peaux Boy food truck. It's success has now lead to this location in the Pizitz Food Hall. By the way, I love the clever spin on the spelling and pronunciation of "poboy" to "peaux boy". Unlike Walk-On's or Pappadeauxs, the menu at Broad Street Peaux Boys is short and delectable. It has the basics such as chicken and sausage gumbo, red beans and rice and chicken and sausage pasta jambalaya (or pasta-laya). This menu also has some changes from their food truck menu, but their peauxboys are basically the same. Broad St is proud of their "overstuffed" peauxboys as advertised on their menu and website. All their peauxboys are "dressed" with lettuce, tomato and pickle on french bread and served with your choice of chips or cajun fries with one additional side of dirty rice, cajun corn, or collard greens. Their choices of Peauxboys include: The Parkway is their classic fried shrimp, catfish peauxboy. The Hot Boy is a lemon pepper "hot" catfish on french bread. If you like your catfish blackened and covered with their remoulade sauce, try the Parkway. The Cassie is their classic fried shrimp but tossed in hot buffalo sauce then topped with blue cheese crumbles and ranch on french bread. Finally the Hollet is a peauxboy made with roast beef in their special au-jus sauce. Beyond Peaux Boys, they have what they call Broad St Boxes which include Shrimp Box, Catfish Box, and a Catfish n Shrimp Box. There's even a Broad St Salad Box which can be served with your choice of catfish or shrimp. These are also served with a choice of sides and hushpuppies. Studying their menu, I had planned on trying the gumbo, red beans and rice, and a shrimp peaux boy. Unfortunately that didn't work out as planned because when I arrived, the kitchen was shutting down. They were closing early due to impending storms. Although most everything was already put away, the last employee there felt sorry for me and offered to cook some simplified boxes for me. I couldn't say no so I got a shrimp box and a catfish box. Both only had cajun fries. The catfish and shrimp were both fried in the same "fish fry" powder. The catfish filet was a nice size and fried perfectly. The batter wasn't thick but just enough to seal in the oil and juices of the catfish. The catfish was oh so good. Yom Yom Yom. It wasn't too salty or overly covered in a thick batter... just the way I like it. The fries were on par and complimented the catfish and shrimp. The shrimp box had about 8 large shrimp that were also fried to perfection. With the same delicious light "crust" that meets your taste buds first, you then taste the inviting shrimp underneath. I'm quite sure that the shrimp that's used in their peaux boy will be cooked the same way so I'm trying to imagine how these shrimp would taste sandwiched between their french bread and dressed with tomatoes, lettuce and pickle with possibly mayo or remoulade sauce. It was torture trying to imagine that so that's why I'm definitely returning. I'm not a big roast beef peauxboy kindaguy, but I may even try the Hollet. If you fancy sno-balls, feast your eyes on all the different flavors that NOLA Ice has to offer right under the same roof. Also owned by Caulfied, it made sense for NOLA Ice to also be there next to Broad St Peaux Boys to tickle your taste buds. Broad St Peaux Boy may not be a big place, but they have big flavors. Nothing fancy about their silverware or dishes since everything is served in disposable containers, but their food is cooked fresh and to perfection. Don't forget that they still have a food truck and they cater. Welcome to the Pizitz Food Hall, Broad St Peaux Boys!
