We are at the one in Mountain Brook village a few weeks ago - not a huge lover of Cajun food , so I ordered a salad - honestly I like a wedge salad, but I rarely eat salad because I don't like it that much. I wish I did - but I eat like a child . The salad was the best salad. I believe I've had in 10 years honestly I don't know what they did to make it so good , but it had croutons and it had homemade buttermilk dressing on it. It was just it was the cheese on it. I don't know what kind of cheese they use in this place, but it is heavenly! . I love the atmosphere of this place - it's in the old sneaky Pete location & is like a little "hole in the wall "got a lot of really cool things on the wall , decor is rustic .the services were amazing & im pretty sure one was an owner (?) bc he cared that we were happy ! It looked like it would have been a very cool place with a great Cajun menu as well as an attractive lunch special. However, I'll never know how good it was because nobody acknowledged me when I arrived. I stood there for a few minutes and members of the staff were chatting with each other and paying no mind to my existence. I then figured I would just sit myself down and waited for a little while at the table and no one came over to me, so I just up and left. Went here for the first time with my friend and we absolutely loved it. The service is great. The ambience was definitely New Orleans vibes and the food was amazing. I tried bread pudding for the first time and it was hot and delicious. I'm a texture person so I believe my complaints is only personal overall it was amazing though and my friend loved it too. I think for me it would be better with like ice cream the Poboy was magnificent. I added hot sauce and some mayo to mine just because I love sauce but overall I think it's a 10 out of 10. read more

Rougaroux is amazing! I had a shrimp po boy here, and it was just about the best po boy I ever had. The bread literally melts in your mouth. It is the gold standard for me for po boys from now on. Another amazing experience was had but this time with a group of seven. Even though we placed separate orders ALL the food came to our table at the same time. They made sure to check on us periodically but everything was prepared to perfection. The group decided to sit outside and pulled some of the smaller tables together. The food was just alright. I used to live a few blocks away when I lived in Birmingham and it's always been good, just not great. The gumbo was ok... I've had better. The sandwich was just ok as well. I was really looking forward to the lemongrass and chilis but all I could taste was an over abundance of garlic. The frozen cocktails were the highlight of the meal. It's been a few years since I visited the Rougaroux. I decided to come for lunch on a Friday afternoon , around 130ish. I was able to easily park in the rear lot. When i entered, it wasn't crowded; just a few people spread throughout. I ordered their lunch special which comes with a drink. I believe it was $15/ plus tax. The beef debris po boy was tasty but it wasn't hot enough. The seafood gumbo WAS hot & hearty. I enjoyed my food overall. Most importantly, service was outstanding. Great Cajun food despite the fact that we thought we had pulled up to a haunted house. Workers were friendly and the decor was kitschy and fun. Gumbo and blackened catfish poboy were on point. The service here is always great! The food comes out quickly and staff is always polite. I love the laid back atmosphere, and the funky posters and signs decorating the walls. The patio here is the perfect chill place to meet up with friends and have a nice meal together. Their shrimp po boy is about as good as it gets for a seafood dish not served on the coast. The batter on the shrimp is perfection, and the sandwich is dressed perfectly. Stopped in here on my way south to Florida and it really hit the spot. I got the shrimp po-boy and it was perfect. The bread was soft, the shrimp weren't overcooked and I couldn't get enough of the sauce. My food came out quick and the interior of this place is really cool. Since this was my first time, I asked the guy at the front what I should get and he said that the shrimp po-boy was probably the best sandwich on the menu to serve as an introduction to the awesomeness that is Rougaroux. The interior is an eclectic, cool old house with voodoo vibe. The people are friendly, efficient and accommodating. The food is fantastic. I had the gumbo with yes potato salad in it. A poor boy. A hidden gem! I was so happy to finally be able to cross this off of my list. All I got this time was the Oyster Rockefeller Poboy and a Hurrmosa drink which were both SO good. The fried oysters were seasoned perfectly and all of the ingredients came together great. The Hurrmosa was a partially frozen drink which was strong! I definitely felt it. Couldn't really tell if there was crawfish in there but that's fine since the shrimp was so well cooked. My only critique is that there was not enough of the meat to offset the thickness of the bread. Wish there was more stuffing because it was so good. The fries were perfect. I don't even like crinkle cut fries but these were so crispy and crunchy and fresh. Paired with the well seasoned remoulade , it was a great dish. So I've been to this place a couple of times in the past three years I recently just went and took a date there I bragged about the place the whole way there and describe the aesthetics. some of the employees that's in the front will give you prejudice vibes by how they treat you. This last time that I went it was about an hour in 20 minutes before they close I ordered the Boudin sausage, which was just OK the gumbo bread pudding in the surf and turf. I got home and noticed that they gave me a shrimp Poboy instead of the surf and turf, which is the shrimp and roast beef together I called to ask how can we resolve this and maybe get a remake but the guy that was on the phone was extremely rude and asked what do you want me to do about it we close in 20 minutes which I replied. Could I possibly get a remake or a refund then he hung up the phone my date call back and he told her it's nothing they can do about it. They won't be remaking it or refunding it and I will have to just come in and order again. This will definitely be my last time eating there and if this is how they treat most black customers then I advise no one to go there. read more
