I needed to get my shirting on my mobile home replaced cause we had our driveway redone. I called to get a quote from someone that does this service and they gave me a ridiculous quote!!! No way I was paying that amount for such a simple small job! So thank goodness I went to Yelp for a handyman. I found Rollinghills and emailed them through Yelp for a quote, one evening about 45 minutes before they closed. Within about 10 to 15 minutes I got a response and was told their hourly rate which seemed pretty darn reasonable, $75 per hour. The first quote I got told me it was going to take a half a day to do the job, so I marked on the quote request for a small job for three hours. Ken got back to me and told me he would like to see the job to do a quote. We arranged for someone to come out the next day at 9 AM. The guy he sent was very polite and gave me a quote for two hours, seriously $150 for a job that was quoted for almost 10 times that price from a commercial business. I was totally pleased. Then to my surprise he asked if I would like to get the job done now. Awesome! He got the job done within the quoted period of time, he actually even had to go get a piece because one of the pieces was missing. Jake communicated with me the whole time let me know how things were going and because, he thought, I was unable to get out of the house (I have a broken ankle) he took a picture of the finished product to show me (when Jake left to get the missing piece I actually checked his work and it was great!). I asked Jake what types of work they did he said electrical, plumbing, construction..... well these guys are going on my list when I have things that need to get done. I needed a low retaining wall to replace an old brick wall I had demolished in our front yard. Ken was a Real Pro in reviewing solutions to seal the holes around the torn Aircon Lines to prevent future entries by rodents into our property (rodents were discovered recently in our home and urgent preventive actions including cutting back of trees & bushes, and sealing holes around the Aircon lines were needed after the rodents were exterminated). He acquired the needed materials and installed a rubber boot & sealed with silicone caulking to wrap around the Aircon lines to provide a functional shield to keep out any rodents. I am shocked to see the positive reviews for Ken and his services! I would never recommend his services! He Built a fence for a neighbor & I that will not last 5 years! Is falling apart now after I spent over 5 hrs putting in screws to reinforce the shotty work! Not only the shotty work, he broke sprinkler heads all throughout my Garden! After repeated attempts to get him to come back, he has ignored my calls! I saw a hired hand who came over and agreed that they needed to come back and I heard nothing back from Ken! I recently saw him across my street and confronted him and he actually had the gall to tell me I should have called him! I have call records/emails to this guy and nothing! I just moved into a new house and last night I get the dreaded chirping sound from I assume was one of the smoke detectors. I narrowed the chirping sound to the living room with a vaulted 20 foot ceiling. I was not able to sleep and found Mr. Ken on yelp in the morning. He responded quickly via yelp within a few minutes. Before contacting Ken I called 5 different companies found on yelp and all of them were fully booked or wanted a minimum trip charge of $150 dollars. Seems most of these other companies do not want to deal with small jobs like replacing batteries on smoke detectors. I finally found Ken and he responded with a very reasonable rate of $75 dollars an hour via yelp. He advised me that it shouldn't take more than an hour to replace batteries in 6 smoke detectors. Ken confirmed a 530pm appointment on a Friday, imagine that !!!! He arrived on time and was very professional and explained to me what he was doing to each alarm and checked my house alarms and co sensor. After replacing the chirping alarm, he found out the alarm was not causing the chirp. The old alarm sensor was the culprit. He removed the old sensor as requested and the chirping stopped. He replaced all the other batteries in the 5 other smoke detectors and even fixed my door latch in 30 minutes. I was surprised that he only charged me for 30 minutes of time $37.50 !!!!! Now that is an honest handyman!!!!! We chatted for several minutes about other projects I want done in the future and he gave me options. Another plus is that Ken is an Army retired veteran and served us, so I am more than happy to provide him with my business. I highly recommend Ken for any home project no matter how big or small. I will be hiring Mr. Ken for my future home projects and hope he doesn't get too busy with all these excellent yelp reviews !!!! I used Ken to install a new kitchen faucet in my home. The way the plumbing was set up under the sink it wasn't going to be an quick and easy "do-it-yourself" project. And if you're not happy, then he is not happy. Crap!! He could care less. As contracted he did some work for me putting baseboard and crown molding in one of my bedrooms. Also patched a hole in my hallway ceiling where someone had stepped off the joist and put a foot thru. He took significant time to do molding. 3+ days. Patched the ceiling and didn't come back to either paint or collect his money for almost 2 weeks.(strange). When he finally came by I paid him and painted the ceiling myself. I then noticed that the small bathroom 4x8 did not have the crown molding installed! I spoke to him and he assured me he would take care of it. As he put it to earn my trust. Never saw him again. So if you are looking for someone to do home repairs make sure that you know what kind of work they are capable or incapable of doing. read more

A few years ago we had Ken, then a one man operation, coordinate with our kitchen granite people to do the things they would not - install the under-mounted sink, install the new dishwasher and etc, Ken did a great job for a very reasonable price and we could not be happier. He was here when expected and completed the work in a timely manner. In February this year we contacted him about a retaining wall project. He came over quickly and produced a very good bid for us. They were spot on with the retaining wall bid in consulting with how much of the hilled backyard we could carve away and knew the regulations regarding permit requirements. We are impressed by his level of knowledge. When things went so bad with our pool installation that we ended up doing the retaining wall ourselves, Ken was still agreeable to help us when we were away. The sign of a true professional. In May, while on vacation out of the country, our cat sitter advised we had a smoke alarm battery chirping. In our home those things chirp then go into full alarm mode and as we were out of the country at the time, I emailed Ken and had him go change the batteries. Which he did. So, this is to say Ken is a very trustworthy and caring soul, skilled handyman and its true what the other reviewer said.
