What a fun experience!! I was recently in the area visiting my long lost brothers (seriously, we never knew about each other until 3 years ago!!!) and my brother suggested we go out for ice cream while we were running errands (even he knows already how much I love ice cream). This entire experience was so fun. The employees were friendly and engaging in conversation. They also put on a little show based off details about you. I found it charming. This place is a lot of hype but semi worth it? The vibe is great if this place wasn't always so packed! Depending on the time and day you go there are easily 30+ people in this small building. It's extremely loud because it's obviously small and we have people making ice cream in front of us which is very noisy. They have cool little chairs that swing from the ceiling and then a few tables that are not thoughtfully placed behind the line of 30+ people. The place looks really cool but again it's only a good vibe if you have maybe 15 people inside Max. The process, since it's so loud you almost have to scream your order and spell your name to the employee at the register which is no fun. Once you place your order your name gets called to one of the slabs they make ice cream on. It's pretty neat watching the entire process and what goes into the ice cream being rolled. They usually spell your name or a cute design once it's smeared out then it gets rolled. After that you go to the toppings section where you can put as many or little toppings as you'd like. The ice cream.. that's the whole reason for this place right? It's not the ice cream you're used to. No not because it's rolled but because it's something very hipster (imagine Portland!) with little sugars in the base itself. That's not a bad thing it just leads to a not very sweet ice cream. The ice cream is very hard so put fruit into the mix and you have a frozen strawberry that you're chewing on..not the best situation. It lacks really any flavor aside from the first few bites. I've given this place a few shots and each time I'm just not impressed. Personally it's a great and innovative idea in a location it can thrive in but the flavor mixed with how packed and uncomfortable it gets makes this place a dive for me. I wouldn't go out of my way to just see a cool show of bland ice cream being made. I would definitely recommend everyone trying it for themselves and making their own decision. read more

I am a regular customer. My boyfriend and I try to make a visit to the rolling monkey at least once a week. Sometimes our schedules make it hard to come by a lot. I have to say, from the moment we walk in, it feels like you're at a nice small local business. The people are so friendly and kind. Most of the workers know us by name. I was in a car accident earlier last summer and everyone made me feel comfortable coming in with my neck brace and always checked to see how I was doing. The ice cream is the perfect amount and delicious! I love the weekly flavors, always trying something new. Usually I end up trying it but their originals are great too! I've had almost every kind. The music is always way too loud. The staff tries to talk to you while they are making the ice cream and its impossible to hold a conversation with them. I appreciate their motive for trying to be friendly with the customers but the club like noise level of music makes that impossible. How do you give half a star on this site, anyway? This was a fun place, offering an innovative product that was tasty and original (hence the need for a half star more). Insofar as the ice cream is concerned, I have had better (creamier, more flavorful); but, insofar as the atmosphere is concerned, I've not experienced better. My daughter and I were warmly greeted by, I assume, the shift manager, who explained the process to be followed. Once our selections had been made (I chose "Have a Peanut Butter Day" and my daughter chose the "Cookies and Dream") we proceeded to the counter, where the ice cream artist proceeded to mix the chosen ingredients with the ice cream on a chilled surface (an anti-grill, if you will), at one point spelling out my name with peanut butter, atop the chocolate ice cream. From that point, the ice cream is literally rolled into tubes of frozen goodness, then placed in a cup. You can eat the ice cream with fork, or with your hands; but either way, you will enjoy it. read more

Let's start by saying this, the ice cream is made right in front of you fresh and taste so good it's unbelievable. The people who work here are very nice and kind and knowledgeable. Very nice place to be in. The one reason I gave it 4 stars is it very pricey but you pay for what you get. It would be great to not spend 25 dollars on 3 cups of ice cream maybe thinking about lowering the price per cup. Hopefully they figure it out. But it is definitely worth a try. read more
