8/10/25 - Lunch The Saucy Shrimp has had a food truck in the Statesboro for several years. They now have a full size restaurant in front of the Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx and Aldi shopping area in Statesboro. This location has been about 50 restaurants over the years (yeah a little exaggeration lol) and I hope the Saucy Shrimp can succeed there. The restaurant is large, very dark and has the more dramatic decor from a previous owner. We had the fried shrimp baskets which came with a good bit of small medium shrimp and fries ($15). We ordered some hushpuppies ($2) but couldn't eat them as they contained corn. Never had corn in a hushpuppy before. The batter was kinda sweet. Good variety of sauces to try and they were generous with their sauces. Service was great - very friendly and quick to refill our waters. Some menu items were reasonably priced and others were a bit absurd. I'll be back to try some other items on my next trip to the 'boro. read more

The service was very good. The food however was WAY too salty. We found it was extremely expensive for what we got. We ordered the seafood clam chowder and it was mainly potatoes and very thick floury sauce and it was $20 for a bowl! We did enjoy the Keylime pie but very likely will not be returning. read more

Food: not great but tasty and fairly inexpensive. Service: the servers were great every time that we visited. I'm not a fan of their management at all. I coordinate a group of friends that are not easy to organize. Granted it's a group that is supposed to be disorganized and arrive when you want but between 6-7:30 pm. Most times it's been easy to get a table in the back but lately they want the entire group there before we can be seated. I explain that some may arrive late and only want to drink but mgr persists to wait and I have to tell them that we'll meet somewhere else. My husband works in the area and we decided to meet up for lunch. He's tried a couple of different places in Statesboro but hasn't been impressed. That is until we tried The Saucy Shrimp. The waitress was prompt and polite and we were seated quickly. I ordered the grilled shrimp with garlic butter. The portion was quite generous with 4 skewers (16 shrimp) , a large side of Cajun rice and a large side of broccoli. The shrimp was COOKED perfect and incredibly flavorful. My husband ordered his shrimp blackened and said it was also good. He also ordered a side of hushpuppies which we thought were pretty epic. It came with a side of honey butter which we felt they didn't need. The puppies are sweeter rather than the more savory, drier kind so be aware if that's not your preference. First time here after the name change, we where here on a Wednesday around 1:20 in the afternoon. The place was not very busy and only a few customers. Chris was our waiter, he was very nice and polite. Although he was slow, he would get back to you. I ordered a 16oz Beer that was cold. (If I had know it was $5.00 for it I would have passed.) I ordered Fried Fish and Shrimp with fries Basket $16.00 . The order came out very fast, but I had to send the fish back as they was not completely cooked. Well this place was along a route headed out of Savannah GA headed back to Alabama. I definitely wanted seafood so the stop was made. This joint wasn't busy at all. They only carry wine/beer, no cocktails. We tried the shrimp, oysters, a poboy, calamari and a seafood boil. Now the fried shrimp were amazing and if ever I walked through those doors again that would be the only thing I order. The seafood boil was pretty flavorless (we ordered medium heat with garlic seasoning) and the oysters I just returned. I couldn't eat them. They were little maybe previously frozen nightmares. The calamari were huge like onion rings and I didn't really understand them. Maybe they are frozen? They were chewy and not really delicate like a fresh calamari. First visit. Here from out of state for a collegiate national archery tournament. Had seen the menu and was really looking forward to trying it. Upon entering, the restaurant was an icebox and I opted to order a bowl of clam chowder rather than a drink to warm up. My bowl came out and it was room temperature and not hot at all. It was remade and wasn't much better but figured I wasn't going to get it hot so gave it to hubby to eat. Hubby ordered a cup of coffee and our table ordered our meals. When meals came out, my daughter's bread bowl of clam chowder was also stone cold. It was sent back to be remade. The waitress left and was gone for some time as she attended to all the other tables so we had no one to tell that our basket of shrimp was also cold. We waited for a while then the person in our party that ordered it decided to eat it cold rather than wait. For what our meals cost, sending out multiple items cold was just poor kitchen management. When the bill arrived, we were charged for two cups of coffee at $3.00 each. I asked the waitress who stated cost is per cup and no free refills. $6.00 for a cup of coffee with a refill?! Are you kidding me?! Not only were we not impressed with multiple failed attempts to bring hot food to the table but even after screwing up three separate orders, they couldn't waive the cost of a refill for coffee? The food was really good at this place. I had the gumbo appetizer and it was almost as good as at home in Baton Rouge. The shrimp was fresh and a good size. The service was great! The food was good but I ordered the king crabs legs and another person in my party ordered the snow crabs. The snow crab came in 3 huge clusters of legs and the king crab came in 3 individual finger legs and a toe smaller than the snow crab with less meat. I might eat there again but never recommend the king crab legs more like peasant crabs. Didn't know I was going to be rationed!! Service was good and food came out quick because it wasn't much food! They serve few of the most tastiest Sea Dishes around Statesboro. I used to go here often before COVID , but I am happy they are open again right when I started missing this place. I tasted almost every dish on their menu. Their Fish and Shrimp Basket, Grilled fish with Garlic-Butter sauce on side, are couple of my favourites here. Shrimp boil is a joke. They don't even provide a plate! They expect you to eat out of the tray they delivered it to the table with. The server actually argued with me when I asked for a plate. And when she delivered the plate, had some parting words that it stained the plates too bad. The boil only includes one small potato and one half ear of corn. I paid extra for additional sausage but got less than my brother did without paying extra. I had to go out to my truck and get my own gloves test with. We there again later and had a great server but I had the fried shrimp that were delicious. When Saucy Shrimp first arrived in Statesboro it was great. I just ordered and wow what a difference. I ordered a shrimp boil bag..........disgusting!!! The shrimp was not clean cooked to mush, the sauce was oily, the sausage was hard and the potatoes were dark as if they had been just sitting in something for a long period of time. I paid over 60.00 for this???!!!!!! You can tell the food was not fresh this is disappointing unacceptable period!! Blown away by the flavors and quality. We love this place! We've been here twice now, taking OOT family for a meal after touring Georgia Southern. We love the ability to individualize the boils on sauce and spice level. We've tried shrimp, blue crab, and crawfish at various spice levels and different sauces. Everything has been great. When I got the blue crab this last time, I had some trouble getting the meat out. She's kept crumbling and the meat was thready. Maybe because it was the first time having crab? I'm used to lobster since I'm from Maine. Aside from the sauces, my favorite part is the corn on the cob. I always get an extra piece! Being gluten-free, I haven't had any problem with the boils but haven't gone too spicy or cajun. The staff is always stand-out friendly too. This place is da bomb! Snow crab legs were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Hubby ordered the whole 9 yards seasoning and I was a little worried. In no way did it disappoint. It's a mixture of lemon pepper, garlic and Cajun seasoning. Crab legs come cooked in a bag with corn, potatoes and sausage. I myself had a kids fried shrimp basket. Shrimp were a good size. Probably one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Tip: get a side of white rice, salt and pepper, and limes. Mix all three and eat with your seafood.
