    Dining area w bar

Food: not great but tasty and fairly inexpensive. Service: the servers were great every time that we visited. I'm not a fan of their management at all. I coordinate a group of friends that are not easy to organize. Granted it's a group that is supposed to be disorganized and arrive when you want but between 6-7:30 pm. Most times it's been easy to get a table in the back but lately they want the entire group there before we can be seated. I explain that some may arrive late and only want to drink but mgr persists to wait and I have to tell them that we'll meet somewhere else. Ambiance: perfect but I really wish that they had a bar and that they had liquor. I can bring my own liquor but a bar like the owners other restaurant would be really great.

Grilled shrimp with garlic butter, Cajun rice, & broccoli.

My husband works in the area and we decided to meet up for lunch. He's tried a couple of different places in Statesboro but hasn't been impressed. That is until we tried The Saucy Shrimp. The waitress was prompt and polite and we were seated quickly. I ordered the grilled shrimp with garlic butter. The portion was quite generous with 4 skewers (16 shrimp) , a large side of Cajun rice and a large side of broccoli. The shrimp was COOKED perfect and incredibly flavorful. My husband ordered his shrimp blackened and said it was also good. He also ordered a side of hushpuppies which we thought were pretty epic. It came with a side of honey butter which we felt they didn't need. The puppies are sweeter rather than the more savory, drier kind so be aware if that's not your preference. I'm sure we will be repeat customers! I only took one picture because we'd already started digging in. Oops.

First time here after the name change, we where here on a Wednesday around 1:20 in the afternoon. The place was not very busy and only a few customers. Chris was our waiter, he was very nice and polite. Although he was slow, he would get back to you. I ordered a 16oz Beer that was cold. (If I had know it was $5.00 for it I would have passed.) I ordered Fried Fish and Shrimp with fries Basket $16.00 . The order came out very fast, but I had to send the fish back as they was not completely cooked. The Shrimp was fine but on the small side, I only about 8 with 4 Pieces of Fish. Over all I don't feel the place is any better than before, and I will look around before we return..

Oyster and shrimp platter with coleslaw

Well this place was along a route headed out of Savannah GA headed back to Alabama. I definitely wanted seafood so the stop was made. This joint wasn't busy at all. They only carry wine/beer, no cocktails. We tried the shrimp, oysters, a poboy, calamari and a seafood boil. Now the fried shrimp were amazing and if ever I walked through those doors again that would be the only thing I order. The seafood boil was pretty flavorless (we ordered medium heat with garlic seasoning) and the oysters I just returned. I couldn't eat them. They were little maybe previously frozen nightmares. The calamari were huge like onion rings and I didn't really understand them. Maybe they are frozen? They were chewy and not really delicate like a fresh calamari. If I lived in this little town I'd go for the shrimp. Fried. And coleslaw. The end.

After receiving my oyster dinner, I was asked if everything looked OK? Upon my "no," the waitress said thank you and walked off. Obviously I requested to see the manager and promptly asked for a refund. As long as they're serving diet oysters in small portions, I will not be coming back!

Clawdia sat at the table and the server found her a banana, her favorite treat, after the long car ride. As far as the humans go, we all enjoyed our meals as well. They have a good lunch menu and prices were reasonable for other items as well. I enjoyed the popcorn shrimp while my daughter raved about the shrimp and grits. My wife also enjoyed the mahi sandwich. Service was fast and friendly despite a large lunch crowd. We ate on the porch since it was a nice day. I never went inside the main building, but we did note that they have a lot of activities like trivia night, etc.

Definitely probably one of the better restaurants in the area though. The Diet Coke was really good. The fried okra was not. Well priced for the food. The restaurant lives up to its name as there are a lot of gnats. Once the staff turned the fans on it was not as bad. My chicken parm sandwich was good, but probably wouldn't order it again and would stick with more classic options. Good casual place in the area though that does the trick for a good price.

This is the best restaurant I've been to in Statesboro yet. Here's what my wife and I had: * Mixed Chicken and Steak Lunch Fajitas Over Rice ($11.25) - cooked with bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes, and topped with cheese dip * Lunch Combo Special No. 1 ($9.25) - one chile relleno, one taco, beans and guacamole salad * Guacamole Dip - Small ($4.65) Everything was delicious. This is your standard Americanized Mexican restaurant, complete with complimentary chips and salsa (side note: the chips here are of the thicker, harder, and crunchier variety). I would say this place does the Americanized Mexican restaurant concept well and operates like a well-oiled machine (in business since 1989). Our entrees came out fresh and tasty, but the Guacamole Dip was a bit underwhelming. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting out a while. It was discolored whereas the guac that came with the lunch combo was fresh and vibrant. Service was good. We visited on a Friday for lunch and it was nice and busy, though not absolutely packed. Lots of families. This location on Buckhead Drive is the third and newest of the three "El Som" locations in Statesboro, having opened in 2008. It's relatively nice and known as the "Palace." The original location opened on Fair Road in 1989 and the second location opened in the Publix shopping center on Northside Drive circa 1993-1994.
