I'm someone who really appreciates proper barbecue, the kind where you smell smoke before you even open the door, where brisket is juicy and tender, and burnt ends are rich, smoky, and melt in your mouth. That's what you expect when you're paying barbecue prices. Sadly, none of that showed up here. The brisket and burnt ends were the biggest disappointment. Instead of having that dark bark and beautiful smoke ring you expect from meat that's been smoked low and slow, everything looked gray and lifeless. There was no smoke flavor, no seasoning, and worst of all, the meat was dry. Not slightly dry, but the kind where you need sauce just to get it down. Burnt ends are usually the highlight of a barbecue meal, crispy outside with juicy, tender meat inside. These were just dry chunks with no caramelization or flavor payoff. The sausage didn't help things either. Overall, nothing about the meal felt homemade or smoked. It felt mass produced and rushed, missing the flavor and texture that make barbecue special in the first place. What made the experience even worse is the price. Spending around $40 on a pound of meat, expecting quality barbecue, and getting dry, bland food instead. For that price, you expect memorable barbecue, not something you regret ordering halfway through the meal. The food was so disappointing that I ended up throwing most of it away and going somewhere else afterward just to get a decent meal. If you follow me on Yelp, you would know I consider myself a barbecue connoisseur. I've tried barbecue from Chicago, Texas, Kansas City, California , New York to Nicaragua. There's always a debate over prep and cooking times. I'm on the other side of the argument, I believe everything starts with the quality of the meat. Fatty meat will ruin the best prep and smoke. I've visited this location three times on my visits to Colorado. The meals are always fulfilling. They do an excellent job on the flavor profile. I always order the rib tips, it's a Chicago favorite. They sell them by the pound, which was new to me. I would suggest two pounds for two people if you care for leftovers. The tips are not 100% Chicago style however they are a slice of home. I coupled the tips with a slab of Spare ribs. I home the bring in Baby backs soon. The ribs were cooked extremely well. The meat did not fall off the bone, it needed just enough pull to come apart. Over cooked ribs fall apart and the meat right off the bone. There's a thin line between just right and over cooked. It takes skill to get it right on a smoker. The first visit we ate in, the ambiance is cool. Very laid back place. The last two visits were take out. Either way, eat well my friend. The ribs are waiting. read more

If you are a bbq fan, then you get what I mean. Then this place is for you! We travel the country trying bbq and so far anytime we are in the Denver, CO area (several times a year), Rolling smoke BBQ is always on our List for dinner at least one of the evenings. I'd recommend the smoked ribs and south side rib tips. Delicious! There is also a wide variety of bbq sauces to choose from that will stand up to a variety of the most discerning taste buds. Walked in, no menu at bar, no problem I'm easy. Told bartender I'll take the biggest platter you have, he asked which meats, choice of 3. I replied "I don't care, I'm easy, surprise me". He chose, then said I'm not choosing your sides, so I had to read the menu that he now placed at the bar. A good bartender would have replied " you will love our Cloe slaw and our potato salad is the bomb". Easy right? Then came time for a beer, I said "I'll take a draft whatever, i'm easy, Budweiser" and shrugged my shoulders. Easy right? The taps DO NOT have the brand on them so I could not tell which brands they carried. He replied, "your killing me man", and handed me a separate menu for beverages. Again, I had to read a menu. I good bartender would have replied "our **** IPA is the bomb, (which is also the most expensive) I will get you that" I looked at the menu and chose Coors Light, (their cheapest beer) about as close to Budweiser as you can get. The restaurant business is ALL ABOUT SALES and customer service. If your in the position of not able to make a recommendation, then you should not be in the biz. Then he disappeared for 15 minutes, nobody in sight. I could have drank at least 2 more beers. There was one table in there, besides myself and friend at the bar. No big deal. On the plus side, they have a great selection of sauces. You can sample all of them. Great touch. They have a bomb Carolina vinegar sauce. The BBQ was good for the area, very average if you're a coinsure like myself. The beer was flat and not very cold. I will probably not go back, even though I live a few blocks away. It was not a bad experience, but I just don't like attitude and lack of effort. (not to mention excessive facial hair while making serving food.) We've been trying to find a good for awhile now and it's so hard to find good bbq places. We stumbled across this place while driving by. We walked in and the guy up front. Had absolutely no energy. Didn't say one word to us. While we were ordering. We wanted something and one guy comes out and says our cooks don't wanna make that. Meat was dry, and pasta had absolutely no flavor. We didn't use the restroom, so no information there. They have a nice selection of items. We chose the ribs with two sides, baked beans and potato salad. The ribs were tasty and there was additional sauce on the table. Theresa chose the mild and I chose the hot. Both sauces were very tasty. The potato salad was very good as were the beans. The rib portions were very generous. So we brought some leftovers home. The staff was friendly, helpful, and clearly wanted us to enjoy our meal! I hate to write a bad review, but we weren't impressed by Rolling Smoke. The brisket was bone dry and pretty flavorless, the mac and cheese was just okay, and the collard greens were decent, but fairly bland. Both the spicy and mild sauces they had out were quite sweet, and we were more than halfway through the meal before any alternative sauces were offered. The spicy vinegar sauce helped cut the sweetness of the spicy bbq sauce and added some flavor to the collard greens, but not much. They say that they have a full bar, but they don't have anything to make a cocktail (not even a basic margarita or a mule.) We had high hopes because of the good reviews and the proximity to our home, but we're going to keep making the drive up to Post Oak on Tennyson. (Much better food, great drinks, and a more soulful, welcoming vibe for a comparable price.) read more

The meats were amazing and the portions were HUGE!. It will be nice to have another lunch tomorrow and perhaps snacks before dinner tomorrow night. I think I hit the holy grail this week! I found this place while 1/2 way enjoying a hotel dinner when a patron came in for a night cap and couldn't stop raving about Rolling Smoke. I am a BBQ snob so you know I had to try it. Located in a strip mall and as soon as you get out of your car you smell heaven. Got a chance to go over to the heaven and saw the pit master hard at work. Inside the restaurant is very clean and the staff here is awesome. We did come a little later so they were out of some key items but I don't blame them once it's gone it's gone. We asked the staff member and he put together and amazing platter packed with pulled pork, sausage, rib tips, chicken wings and jalapeño corn bread. Side that were coleslaw, potato salad and baked beans. All I can say is everything was amazing and we left in a meat coma. Amazing food! Super delicious. Friendly and attentive staff. We came to Denver to visit family and decided on barbecue for our first night in town. We had a group of 7 so we ordered a ton of food and shared everything. The ribs and chicken were everyone's favorite. We had chicken wings that were cooked to perfection. All the different BBQ sauces were great but personally I loved the habanero it had a great depth of flavor and a nice kick. The gumbo was delicious too! We walked over to the smokers and the friendly chef explained the process of smoking meats. My kids loved that part the best! It was very interesting. Great art work on the walls too. Stopped in today just like we've done for years to order a to go meal while walking my dachshund. I order then step outside to wait until food is ready. Unfortunately there was a very nasty, rude man taking counter orders. We are regular customers and place upwards of 300.00 orders at least monthly for entertaining large groups of ex firefighters. This particular employee knows us and has never said anything before about the dog walking in and out but apparently this is the hill he wanted to die on today. The large order we planned for this week will go to another business. Firefighters like variety too. Kinda sad because we really do enjoy the food, even the dog. We sometimes even stop to buy him a small portion of meat and this employee has pet and talked to my dog every time, not sure why the ugly confrontational attitude today. read more

They are food allergy friendly and knew exactly what I was asking -- although vegans might not be happy campers here -- I mean, it IS a BBQ place :-) It was hard to find for this out of towner. Facing the ARC thrift store, it is to the right in the same building, but with subtle signage. By the way, in my opinion, I could do without the coleslaw; is had little flavor and was really salty. Excellent bbq, probably the best I've had in CO so far. Friendly and helpful staff helped us with our order when we came in. The mac bowl has a lot of cheese and seasoning. The hot links were perfect, not overly spicy, but with a good kick. Pulled pork sandwich was also delicious with a nice fluffy bun. The pork was tender and flavorful. They have two bbq sauces on the table to add to your meal (one regular and one spicy and both are so good). The ribs were amazing! By far my favorite thing we ordered. The meat falls off the bone. The smoked beans were also super flavorful and the tater tots were perfectly crisped. Customer service was outstanding as well. We really appreciated that part of our experience. The burnt ends, some are a 10 and some are a 2 The brisket I was surprised by. It sounds harsh but it's like a 3. So dry. I'm used to brisket melting in your mouth. The potato salad was good, like a 7. The baked beans were really good, like a 9. Maybe it's just me on the mac and cheese. It's literally the lowest grade I would ever give for any mac and cheese. But I almost give it a pass because it's so dry and unusual that I wonder if there's some pocket of the country that is looking for exactly this. It's so different that I must assume it's on purpose. But I like a cheesy, melty, creamy Mac and cheese. This was not that. Again sounds harsh. But this was a 2 for me. Again I give it a pass. The meat, I know that my review is credible. I stand by the low level meat ratings for sure. The 2 on the Mac and cheese, take with a grain of salt. Ordered the brisket Mac and cheese, expecting a melty cheesy situation with pieces of brisket mixed in. It came with just a few dry pieces of brisket laid on top. It wasn't a small amount of brisket. No complaints. Except it seemed lazy and I'm not a fan of neither the Mac nor the brisket. So this dish was not it. The barbecue sauces are pretty good. Like a 6. Hard to get below a 5 on sauce. Some looked like they definitely needed shaken to mix up. The customer service was really really bad. They are not busy but the phone answerer was incredibly rude. We've been to this location several times now and are consistently impressed with the food and service. The burnt ends are always perfect. The pulled pork is lean and tender. The greens are cooked perfectly with just the right amount of spice. I haven't gotten the ribs in a few visits but I remember them being fire too. And the sauces... oh man!
