Folks leaving bad reviews are whiny Texans who want their feet kissed because they "know what good bbq is." Jim and Jerry are good guys out here smoking meat for the people. This isn't some Michelin star restaurant. It's a broken down food truck with a giant barrel smoker in a gravel lot. Meat is cooked with no rub or marinade which is fine because the hickory smoke is the seasoning. Most times the ribs are a bit dry, but if you're not a prick, the sauce makes up for it. It's tomato based and heavily spiced with cinnamon and pepper... Delicious. If you are a prick, you'll still love the smoked sausage. If you're a big sides guy like me, their potato salad is some of the best I've had. Mayo based but also vinegar, and sweet relish for extra zing. Slaw is good. Beans are good. Peach cobbler is pretty basic sloppy homestyle stuff. Not my favorite but my parents and grandparents dig it when they are in town. I serve it with vanilla ice cream at home. Don't let the yelp snobs scare you away from a good experience. Go try it for yourself. read more

I keep seeing and smelling Big Jim's food and I finally had the chance to stop and give this place a try. As soon as we walked up towards the truck we were greeted with awesome service. Big Jim wasn't there that day but his cook was (Forgot his name). Dude was super friendly, showing us around the grill, and giving us a brief history of the business. With his awesome customer service, we got even hungrier. We ordered the full rack of ribs, and a turkey leg. Unfortunately we weren't as impressed with the food like we were with the service. First the ribs. The flavors were bland. We didn't see any seasonings added and all I tasted was the smoke from the wood. I could be wrong but I don't there was any added seasonings or sauce. There was sauce on the side, but that tasted more like it came out of a bottle bought from the nearest grocery store. The meat wasn't coming off the bone as easily as I like. I don't like the meat to fall off the bone as soon as you pick it up, but I also don't like it where I have to eat the rib like it's a corn on the cob. The latter is what ribs were like. The turkey leg was much better. That seemed to have worked better with just the natural smoke flavor from the wood. The turkey leg did have a lot of the tendons, which seemed more than normal. Price was a little on the expensive end. For the rack of ribs I paid around $40 I think and the leg was around $15. I didn't mind paying the price because I expected better quality food. I would like to try Big Jim's again mainly to see if I just caught them on a bad day. The chef mentioned that Big Jim has been open since the early 80's so they must be doing something right. read more

We drove by Big Jim's BBQ and saw people waiting in line at this lunch truck and wondered how it tasted. One day we were thinking of where to eat at so I suggested that we try out Big Jim's BBQ. We drove into that big lot and as soon as we opened the car door, we smelled that wonderful aroma of BBQ. Our mouths were watering. As we were looking at the menu, Big Jim himself came up to us. He is a really nice and friendly guy. He explained the menu to us and we placed our order. We got our food and took it back to our place. We got the ribs and the brisket. They both had a nice smokey taste and a nice sauce. My ribs were a little bit dry but the brisket was nicely done. Colorado born and bred. I remember seeing Jim's as a kid and always wondering what it was like. As an adult, I finally gave it a shot and realized I wasn't missing out on anything. The ribs were extremely dry and didn't have much flavor. The sauce, though may be good to some people, was not to my liking. It had the look, consistency, and taste of gravy. Having spent considerable time in the south and in texas, I think imma decent judge of what good barbecue is supposed to taste like and this was not even in the ballpark. I am really sad about this experience because I really wanted to like Jim's food. I love it when local businesses thrive and do well. I've wanted to try Big Jim's for years. Since we're trying to support local businesses, I stopped by this Sunday. It looked great, and smelled terrific. BIG MISTAKE. $55 for a turkey leg, 1/2 a rack of ribs and a small amount of hot links. We are bbq fans, we eat bbq a lot. Big Jim should be embarrassed to feed people this food! The turkey leg was okay, dry but edible. The ribs were so dry we couldn't eat them and the hot links had a mealy texture and the taste was horrible. The bbq sauce had an odd taste, like it had lots of cinnamon or some strange spice in it. Not like any bbq sauce I've ever tasted. One other strange detail, when I ordered, Jim pulled the meat out of the smoker and brought it into the food truck. I was the only one there, yet it took almost 15 minutes to get the food packaged. read more

Stopping at Big Jim's is an experience. You've got the big smoker on the corner to draw you in and, once you're there, the friendly, personable, and engaging character that is Big Jim. This man and his crew seem do a great job of engaging every guest that stops by. The BBQ is good, certainly not the best I've had but definitely not the worst. I had the ribs, pulled pork,and brisket. The pork wasn't pulled, but rather chopped. The meats are well smoked but I feel like mine were pulled from the smoker prior to my arrival and had been resting for a little longer than I want for the price I paid. The sauce is tasty but not to my liking (I like to think I'm most picky about my sauce when going to any BBQ joint). It is thick, which is nice, but cinnamon is the most prevalent flavor. Finally, my two sides were fantastic. Beans and potato salad were on point, and top quality. It is relatively expensive but they are not shy with the portions, so I think it's worth it. Overall, I recommend stopping by and trying it. I was shocked and appalled to see the Big Jim's Bbq food handling at Brookfield Days festival today. Uncooked meat was being stored under a white sheet unrefrigerated. Raw meat was being placed on the smoker on top of cooked meat. I unfortunately noticed this after I paid over $50 for a half rack of ribs a brisket sandwich. The ribs were pretty well cooked but the brisket was a rubbery dry mess with cheap BBQ Sauce. If you are going to charge premium prices you better serve premium food. I had high hopes for the bbq after seeking the giant smoker and meeting owner Jim who spoke with a genuine southern drawl. I ordered brisket, specifying a moist (fatty) cut. I decided to try out this food truck sitting along Parker Road. I was planning a family reunion and I am responsible for bringing the main dish so I decided on brisket and baby back ribs. I stopped by tasted both and was very impressed. However, the day of the reunion when I picked up the 25 pounds of brisket, it had a horrible smell and even looked terrible. The brisket was chopped up pieces of meat, covered with some type of sugary sauce, and it tasted horrible. I wound up throwing away half of the meat, and the people who had it on their plate, wound up, throwing it away as well. The ribs were tough, had no flavor and was a huge disappointment. I was very sad and frustrated because I was so excited for everybody to try some great barbecue, I do not recommend big Jim's. They're very hard to get on the phone and they kept losing my order. Big Jim from Arkansas is a nice friendly dude but I just couldn't let that blind me from the fact that a 3 meat platter with 2 small sides cost $28! The 5 meat platter cost like $35 but the small portion all fit into just 1 regular size styrofoam container. They really need to adjust their portion or set lower prices. Ribs were burnt, beef was hard, chicken was ok. Don't let the big fire pit fool you into thinking this is good BBQ even for food truck standards. read more

Big Jim has a BBQ truck on Parker road which is open every weekend from 10am-5 pm. Jim is the sweetest guy I've met in Colorado. His chicken is super juicy and great for leftovers. We ate and enjoyed it for days! Much better than Hickory House and Texas Roadkill. Trust me on this!! read more

I give 4.5 stars for Big Jim. He has been in business I think for 18 years. He is doing something right to be a vendor on the corner this long. He is extremely friendly to everyone. We had the rack of spare ribs, sausage (spicy goodness), and beans & potato salad. There is a lot of meat on the ribs and the wood smoke flavor is amazing. We have lived in Parker for 8 years and this our first time trying him. If you live in Parker, you know where he is located and have smelled the aroma on the weekends. He does accept credit cards. We've driven past this place for 12 years and have always commented that we need to stop one day. So, we finally did. Everything overall was good. Except mainly the price. We got 1 rack of ribs, 1 extra hot sausage link and two sides (pints) - cole slaw was mostly just cabbage - maybe a touch of mayo? and baked beans. The beans had way too much clove or some spice that I really don't like. Same spice in the BBQ sauce. Plus a bunch of crunchy bits in there that just kind of grossed me out. The ribs were better the second day after I steamed them to reheat them. Made them fall right off the bone. The heat on the sausage was very nice. Anyway, it cost $83!!! WTH? Much prefer HH next door for 1/4 of the price. Will have to come back to try the peach cobbler on Saturdays. read more

We tried the brisket, ham (pulled pork), pork ribs, and hot links. It was a great snack. I've had "to die for BBQ," this was not it. But it was real good and I would come back. SO GOOD! Worth the wait (3 people ahead of us) and the price; lunch special comes with roll and made two meals actually and we were starving (made a great pork sandwich next day!) Also a few mentioned pricing, this is a very fair price actually and I only hope y'all remember to tip them! They give you enough for two meals! The sauce was the best I've ever tasted and I like all kinds of bbq! The sides were good as well; the potato salad was excellent! Usually it's hard to find a bbq place with good sides and meat. Someone mentioned it took awhile to get their plate with no one in line. Well they must have been so impatient only because it smelled so good and didn't think about how they need to let the smokin hot meat cool a few minutes before putting it in a styrofoam container. Stopped by Big Jim's last Saturday after enjoying the Parker Days festivities. (Side note: the parade included free popcorn and popsicles... for a few minutes I actually thought I was in heaven.) I was with a few friends, so we all chipped in a few bucks and ordered the five meat sampler (brisket, pork, ribs, sausage, chicken). Surprisingly it was handed to us in a single styrofoam lunch-size box... which was worrisome since it needed to feed four hungry amigos. HOWEVER, I felt the weight of the box and almost dropped it. That box of meat was jam-packed full of smoky perfection. We got home and threw it all on to a platter (see uploaded pictures of said platter for a good laugh) in order to heat it up in the oven. After ten minutes of warming, we pulled it out of the oven and barbarically torn into that marvelous mountain of meat. SO GOOD. Oh man. The sausage was probably my favorite. Word of warning: the sausage is actually very spicy; not for the faint of tastebuds. Big Jim came here from Arkansas and bought legit southern BBQ with him. I was excited to finally stop here and the smell was wonderful. Unfortunately, he pulled my ribs from a dirty pan filled with odds and ends of BBQ pulled from the smoker hours previously. To warm up the ribs he put them in a styrofoam container with dry bread and put them in the microwave. The ribs were so dry they we're inedible. I've had beef jerky that was more juicy. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to love this place. I rarely write reviews but wanted to share my sad experience so that someone else doesn't waste $25 on 2 sandwiches. I moved here from Montana a year ago and all the bbq I ate in Denver tasted the same until I stopped at this place, which isn't even that far from my apartment! My husband said this is the best bbq he's ever had, and I don't usually like bbq food, but I love this one! The bbq sauce is very tangy - not for the plain Jane's out there - the potato salad and baked beans also have so much flavor!! I like to mix a little meat/sauce in with the potato salad and/or beans on each bite. We order the deal that comes with two meats and two sides and we share it... just right for the two of us with a bit of leftover meat. Big Jim's BBQ offers so many selections of great cuts of meats pared with fantastic sides including some of the best beans I've had. I've found that the negative reviews on Big Jim's are far from accurate. BBQ reviews are in the eye of the beholder. With that being said, I've had famous BBQ style variations from Memphis dry rub to classic Texas BBQ to Kansas City classics and any combination in between. While Big Jim's sauce is different from most, that is a good thing. The sauce is a balance of smoke, sweet, tangy and spice and compliments the meat perfectly. I'm very pleased I chose to have Big Jim's for diner tonight. My family and I have thoroughly enjoyed every bite of our baby back ribs and brisket. read more

Terrible. We were so excited since we saw the smokers and this place looked legit. The guy was funny and nice. The lady looked genuine. The brisket and ribs were hard and chewy. Not tender at all. It's a real shame. He has all the right tools to make a gem, but has failed on many levels. What really did it for me was the "peach cobbler". It looked like oatmeal with canned peaches. I just don't understand how this place could be so awful. In all fairness... the chicken was ok. The slaw was not Terrible. But for a BBQ place... this was just terrible. I hate that I wasted money, time and calories. Please don't support this place. Or if you know this guy... please help him improve his recipe. Again, there is potential.
