Poor excuse for pet care! The vet seems to care less about the animals but is VERY focused on the money. The girls that work for her seem compromised and compliant to policies that are all about getting as much money from each patient they can. Substandard care! For us, going there was a BIG MISTAKE! Thank you for your response, Dr. Apodaca. Maybe if I had responses to my emails regarding my concerns for Omar, I would not be complaining. When I called your office regarding my concerns and a request to speak with you, I was told Omar's wellness check was in April 2025. I sent an email in which I indicated that he was not doing well and that it seemed too far out considering how poorly he was doing. No response. I requested his records. His records were comingled with our other cat, Chico's. I sent an email requesting the records be corrected. I requested Chico's records. They were never sent. I had to request the blood tests from the dental exams three times before I got them. My cats had been at Animal Wellness prior to you taking over the practice. I asked for a complete records history, not just when you took over the practice. Didn't receive them. I, too, have documentation of my calls and emails. I doubt that Omar had his teeth cleaned because the photos in Omar's record were of Chico. Maybe you are an okay veterinarian. I was looking for the same response from you that you provided the year prior about Omar's needs and care. I did not receive that.​ read more

This clinic's approach to my 12 year-old cat's diabetes diagnosis could not have be WORSE. The doctor came in after the tests were done and didn't even introduce herself or call Presley by his name. They loaded me up with. food, insulin and needles and charged me over $500 and told me to come back in a week for a fee of $200. I can't afford those fees and I'm not going into debt for healthcare for Presley or myself! They topped it off with the AUDACITY to have a receptionist leave me a voicemail asking if I wanted to RELINQUISH PRESLEY to a place that could afford to care for him. How cruel, insensitive and insulting. They are trying to guilt me into treating him. it's not going to work. Horrible clinic. read more

Agreed: The doctor and some of her staff are inconsiderate and rude, which is especially difficult when you have ill pet. The previous doctor, who has since retired, was great. She had some staff for receptionist that were a bit terse, but it was ok. I went to see the new doctor and had an experience warranting never going back. Found a new doctor and that doctor had problem dealing with them to get records and information, while also reporting rudeness. If you want to act like that, don't work in healthcare. read more

I would highly encourage Yelp users to look at the previous negative reviews for this clinic because they are very similar to my recent experience. I found this veterinarian condescending and displaying a poor bedside banner, who failed to communicate nuances associated with the decision to spay or neuter your pet (and at what age), when in truth it's absolutely a conversation that should be had and is not a one-size fit all answer. When I asked basic questions about my dog's nose scratch and the healing process, I received a one line answer that were again condescending in nature. And finally, my poor dog was shaking during her examination and was very obviously scared by the way she was handled, when she's never reacted that way before with any other medical professional, including an ophthalmologist who dilated her eyes and examined then closely. This vet is the best one I've ever been to! I've moved around with my sweet (now 11.5 year old) dog a lot, thus having different vets across many states. I am so glad I landed in Santa Fe and found Dr. Moreau! She is real, she's straightforward, professional, caring and aims for my dog to live as long as possible! Dr. Moreau is a great vet. She is experienced and knowledgeable. She explains clearly what she is doing and why and does not order a bunch of unnecessary tests at every visit. Also we are always allowed in the exam room with our pets even during COVID. This definitely reduces the stress on the animals. We are very happy to have found her after our previous vet refused to see our new puppies because they were considered "New Patients" and they were not accepting new patients due to COVID even though we have taken our other animals there for years. read more

I hardly ever give a bad review, but this Vet... bad news. Don't go unless you don't care how your animal is handled. First visit was fine. Second and third she hurt my dog. On the second visit she treated me like I neglect my dog, Lucy and then didn't allow me to comfort her when they aggressively handled her. My 9year old dog is a rescue and very timid, not aggressive. They never asked about her, just assumed and told me they handle her like that so they don't get bit. I've been bit by a dog before, I get it. No one wants that. But my dog has never bit any one and she was clearly terrified. Then Dr. Monroe was upset about some matts in her fur, grabbed clippers and cut them out. That would have been fine, if she hadn't CUT THE SKIN. It left scabs behind both ears. I called later and explained I that was unsatisfactory with the lack of attention, to say the least. She apologized and I gave her another chance. But the lack of care and respect for the animal that she was handling only got worse. Third visit Dr. Monroe came in with attitude again. Now aggressively ripping a tiny matt out of my dogs head. If you've ever had a shepherd dog matts happen. And you don't need to tear them out with force. Anyway she was bathed and clean. So after that Lucy was shaking. They were clenching her and had her face covered. They gave her no comfort or care. It was inhumane. The doc grabbed a needle for a heart worm test and missed the mark, pulled it out, drew it back and pushed some saline out, then didn't tap the needle to ensure the air was out and reinserted it. Lucy whimpering. I said stop. I was horrified by the lack of care, communication and poor treatment. I left to never return. The visit was too aggressive and I will never go back. I had unfortunately recommended her to my roommate, who also had a bad experience. Don't know what you will run into there, but she wasn't kind or caring. Just authoritative and aggressive. You're welcome to have your own experience. This was mine. I'm not recommending it because I care for my dog. Worst review I've ever written and sadly true... read more

There is a new owner, Sarah Apodaca. The most unfriendly, condescending person I have been unfortunate enough to try to do business with. The girls at the front desk are complicit in a scam this business runs to add charges to every bill. In my case, they tried to force an unnecessary rabies vaccine on my 17 year old Beagle. I declined the vaccination right away at the front, then they took him in the back and came in the room to tell me that they were going to administer the vaccine. (this is after I had already said no to it, twice!!!) So the vet tech told me that she " wasn't going to be the messenger" between me and Apodaca. So Sarah comes in and tells me she doesn't want to do business with me since I declined the forced vaccine. I had traveled a long way and my dog needed help, so I finally agreed to the vaccine just so they'd help him but at that point the Dr said I needed to leave and the nasty receptionist threatened to call the sheriff on me!!! This is all because I questioned their policy of forcing vaccinations on animals so they can pad the bill. No Ethics, morals, compassion or professionalism happen in this place. What a terrible experience. Would give negative 10 stars if I could. read more

I have been taking my three doggies to the Animal Wellness Center for seven years now. I absolutely love the staff and Dr. Moreau. They have amazing costumer service. I feel the prices are very reasonable compared to other places. Dr. Moreau does such a great job cleaning my doggies teeth. I love that Dr. Moreau is the only Veterinarian at her office. She is always the one to see my doggies and they love her. She has built such a great relationship not only with me but with my fur babies. Love this office. read more

My terrier had a bad foot(couldn't put pressure on it). This is my first time meeting the new vet & owner, Patricia Apodaca. They were very busy, but the nice lady at the desk suggested leaving the dog, so they could help her between other patients. When I picked the dog up, I had a bill for $522! They charged me $175, emergency fee, which they did not tell me about. The X-rays showed arthritis. I will never go back. I felt completely railroaded. And there was no talking the vet out of that ridiculous fee. I would never have left the dog, had they mentioned what it would cost. read more

We had an emergency situation to have our Australian Shepherd cared for. Our established Vet in Eldorado wouldn't take us. I called Dr Moreau's office. Not only is she outstanding in her field, her staff is amazing! April took us immediately and we are so grateful to have found them. We learned our dog has diabetes and Dr Moreau has been beyond phenomenal. She is available like no other Veterinarian I have ever experienced. She is available and extremely knowledgeable. Not to mention competitive pricing and a very clean sanitary clinic. We love this office and are so grateful to have all of our animals cared for by Dr Moreau and her staff! Wow. This very was extremely condescending, presumptuous, unprofessional, aggressive with my sweet baby boy who was terrified of her and her staff. He has never been that afraid by a vet or a groomer. She was so inappropriate that she even apologized for being inappropriate. She didn't even look at his eyes or his ears or give him a proper exam. Almost two days ago I noticed my almost two year old Rottweiler was limping. I checked his paws, ran my hands up and down his legs, checked his toe nails, and I couldn't figure what was causing this. I called the Animal Wellness Center yesterday morning and spoke with the incredibly polite woman who answered the phone. They were able to schedule us an appointment first thing this morning. My boy is a lot to handle and the female staff who helped get him checked in was phenomenal. Dr. Moreau was beyond kind and very thorough. She didn't do anything without first asking me and informing me of the cost. Although the news we received back wasn't what we hoped to hear she was compassionate and discussed the options available to my boy. I am incredibly grateful for the care my boy received, for the kind staff, and of course Dr. Moreau!!! Visits to the vet can be stressful but this was not at all one of those visits. read more

Dr. Moreau and her staff are fabulous! They have cared for our older Bassett hound for the past three years and we could not be happier. They are compassionate, know their stuff, always follow up and to top it off, their prices are very reasonable. And, if we have any type of emergency they get you in right away. It pains me to write this review, but after such an outlandish experience, I must warn others...I called many vets around town and in ABQ and was shocked that the average dental cleaning for a DOG was $500+. When I called Animal Wellness Center, I spoke with Jessica who agreed that the prices were outrageous and happily informed me that they were the cheapest place in town and their dental cleaning price was $113, plus any extra for extractions or unexpected complications. I later called back and booked an appointment. We were scheduled for today and when the assistant took us in a room and started asking questions and having us fill out forms, she mentioned that the price for a 10 year old dog would start at $562 or something outrageous like that. At this point, the doctor was in the room and my husband and I looked at each other and then I reminded them that Jessica told me the price was $113. Of course, the doctor was shocked and assured me this was a mistake and stated they weren't a "bait and switch" veterinarian office...the fact that she SAID that gave us both pause and we immediately left. This sad reality made me shudder and that I why I am writing this review. It IS a bait and switch and I am sickened by their tactics. read more

Earlier this year my long-time veterinary clinic (specifically the kennel supervisor) decided my kitty Boots was too difficult and we were banned. She was my 4th cat to go through there and in fact I had adopted her from them after her owner had passed away and my old cat had died at almost 18 so I knew Boots was living in the kennel. They had told me at the last boarding they felt she was unhappy there but I still felt it was a trusted environment and better than having someone pop in and out 1-2x a day and leaving her by herself the remainder. But I didn't know we would be banned! It was very upsetting as I needed to find a new place a week before I was going on a business trip! To make a long story short it was a blessing in disguise; I read as many websites as I could and discovered Dr. Joan - the moment I walked into Animal Wellness Center, the vibe was warm and caring. She was not at all put off by a so-called "difficult" cat and immediately embraced Boots and me. The kennel staffer Cheyenne spent time showing me the boarding area and explaining how they care for the "guests." The additional staffers April, Denise and Lana were equally friendly and helpful - and the whole place radiated an aura of calm. I knew I had found a new veterinary home for Boots and me. It was such a change from a place that had become so large - I never saw the same vet twice, and they were able to just dispense with a long-time customer so easily. The blessing in disguise came when Boots became ill and stopped eating and was rapidly losing weight. Dr. Joan ran all the tests, did extensive x-rays - and something I had NEVER experienced from a vet - she printed out the tests and explained every one of them to me. She put the x-rays up on her computer and explained all of those to me. Dr. Joan was always realistic and explained the decisions we would make along the way together. They called me nearly every day - no vet had ever done that either, and I have had pets all my life. On my weekly visits with Boots, the caring and concern was always there. I saw some review comments about high prices - all this that Dr. Joan and her staff provided for Boots was always a half to two-thirds what the old place had been charging me for my cats for years - both medical care and boarding. Her prices are very reasonable, and worth every penny and then some. When Boots' cancer overtook her and we had to say farewell, I never experienced the transition in the way Dr. Joan handled it - typically if I had to put a cat down to end its terminal suffering, you stay with it a bit, then the shot, and kerthunk, it's over. Dr. Joan and I talked to Boots a little, petted her, and then she was first sedated so that she drifted peacefully as we said good-bye.Then final medication was imperceptible as Boots went to the next world. Yes it was difficult - they all are - but this was the most gentle and peaceful transition with a pet I have ever experienced. I always have older rescue cats because they are so unwanted and have usually been abandoned for some reason and lost the life they knew. My next kitty in due time will be introduced immediately to Dr. Joan and I hope to be able to have her care for my cats long into the future. Thank you, Animal Wellness Center! read more

Dr. Moreau has been our vet for over 10 years. She was a caring friend to our little Yorkie/ Poodle and kept him happy and well much longer than we thought possible. We now have a new little friend and are again entrusting her care to Dr. Moreau. The staff was very friendly and effective, and seemed to generally know their stuff with regard to procedures for international travel. The price, however, was ludicrous. I was charged $167 to fill out an international health certificate form. At my previous vet the price quoted was $40. YELP won't let Dr. Moreau answer these bad and even dishonest reviews on YELP, which is not fair or the right way to do things, YELP. But YELP has a reputation for being one-sided and not entirely truthful themselves ... My personal experience is that Dr. Moreau at Animal Wellness is a caring woman and vet who helps lengthen the lives of kitties in renal failure for free, and who advised us that we were indeed correct in not wanting to anesthetize our 15 yr. old JR to have her teeth cleaned. We knew she needed them cleaned, but were concerned about putting her under JUST to have her teeth cleaned; after all it wasn't a life or death issue, but still one that needed addressing. 15 is getting up there in doggie years and we would not be able to live with ourselves if something happened because we said yes, put her under, with no regard for her age. Dr. Moreau is the only vet who told us she could sedate her and hand clean and polish her teeth versus doing general anesthesia. Other vets just wanted to apply general anesthesia and would not address our concerns AT ALL. Well, guess what, our 15 year old 'baby' is a big deal to us, and Dr. Moreau was the only vet we spoke with who agreed that it would be an unnecessary risk. Kudos to her, and we've just heard that our little girl came through with flying colors and will be home with us soon. read more
