Great hospital. They have a separate entrance for cats. They got us in the same day for our new kitten exam. Dr. Kelsey Dobesh was super nice and the office staff was all great. We are new to Santa Fe and so glad to have found them.

Annabelle, our Briard who got Foxtail in her paws and nose. Smith Vet fixed it.

We have always counted on Smith Vet for our dogs when we are in Santa Fe for the summers. They are "the Mayo Clinic" of Vet clinics in New Mexico. I highly recommend them. Our Briard got Foxtail in her paws and nose. I rushed her to the clinic and they got them out before surgery was needed. Our Miniature Dachshund eats things he shouldn't. Smith Vet gets him back in shape. It's comforting to know that there is such reliable and excellent care for my dogs at Smith Vet.

Savannah - The crippled dog sent away with no treatment.

The following is the email I just left for the clinic. I cut and pasted the address from their website. It got kicked back to me "ADDRESS NOT FOUND. "Figures... I just got back from your clinic. My dog Savannah wasn't seen. It isn't just a matter of her not getting medical attention. The woman working behind the counter - middle-aged, hispanic - was unconscionably rude. Here's what happened: I arrived in the parking lot and called your number as per your instructions online. No one answered. I called again with the same result. From what I read in your instructions, I was supposed to go into the lobby if nobody answered the phone. I tried but the door was locked. The woman aforementioned came to the door and told me the instructions were on door. I told her I read the instructions and nobody was answering the phone. She said call again and I'll answer. I called again several times and she didn't answer. I knocked on the glass in the sidelight and she came out. Here's the exchange that followed: Her: What do you want? We're only seeing sick dogs and emergencies. Me:My dog went to the dog park yesterday and damaged 2 of her paws, but... At that point she cut me off. What I was going to say before she rudely interrupted me is: but now it seems to be more than that. She's become so crippled, she can just barely walk and she's obviously in pain. Her: Come back tomorrow! (She yelled this twice!) If you don't consider my dog's problem serious enough to warrant attention today, that's bad enough, but there was no justification for being so offensive and uncivil. She could have denied my dog medical attention and at least been gracious about it.

For what this Vet practice charges, they do not meet the standard. I wish there were more choices in Santa Fe.

Waited nearly 3 hours. They don't take appointments. This veterinary clinic could be hugely improved with a simple appointment system.

Was this vet practice purchased recently by a chain? I went to their web site, and it looks like a different company. Anyone know? Is the staff the same?

It was purchased by a corp, i was told Some staff are still there. One of the owners, Dr. Cathy… Read more

He had had a very delicate operation to repair a tricky break in the tibia bone of his back right leg. They had installed a metal brace and screws and wire. Very expensive and extremely important to contain the cat so he would not harm the leg while it is healing. I had an out of state family funeral to attend and was in a panic. I googled something like post-surgery in home care in Santa Fe. Her website plus one other Pet Hospital came up. I reviewed her website, noticed how well it was designed with attention to detail (very important) and that she was licensed via the city of Santa Fe for animal care. I never even felt the need to review the other website. My cat, named Kitty, needed 24/7 care and someone with experience handling medications and delicate post-surgery care. I emailed her of my upcoming needs, as it was late on a Sunday and I needed to leave in 4 or 5 days. We spoke the next day and went over all my concerns. As we spoke it was so obvious that she was very experienced in the post-surgery needs of an animal. Additionally, she demonstrated a deep understanding of relating to the cats and dogs she takes care of. If you want to just have Irina go to your home and feed and water and clean up after your pets while you are away that is of course possible also. Irina sent me wonderful photos and reports everyday of Kitty. I felt completely confident that Kitty got excellent care and attention...complete with a heated rug his first day there to comfort him as he adjusted to this new environment. I could go on and on but don't want to make this any longer. In short, all pet owners in Santa Fe, are lucky to have Irina the Pet Angel of Santa Fe as an option for animal care when the need arises. Thanks, Irina for your love and devotion to my Kitty and all cats and dogs. Mary BB

My first advice... put your dogs on the CareClub plan! Both of my dogs are on the monthly plan…read moresince they were puppies! It's extremely helpful having peace of mind knowing their regular exams (and even most urgent visits) have been covered, as well as their vaccines and fecal tests. Knowing I don't have to come out of pocket every visit is a good feeling. Other than paying for medications and preventative stuff... this CareClub is a lifesaver! As for the hospital and staff... they have always been amazing!! I have a Cane Corso and Olde English Bulldogge... and the staff and docs have always been great to my giant boys. They seem to understand breed specific needs (like the proper age to neutered a cane corso) and knowing that my bulldog shouldn't go under sedation unless absolutely necessary. My corso had his neuter, gastropexy (stomach surger recommended for giant barrel chested breeds), and cherry eye removal all done at VCA. The surgeries were all successful, and recovery time was easy. I attribute this recovery magic to the amazing surgery team's skill and care. My bulldog has had skin issues due to food and environmental allergies (that was fixed with an allergy shot. GET THIS SHOT IF YOUR DOG HAS RANDOM ALLERGIES!) and recently a ruptured cysts. The doctor fully understands what cysts are scary and which are common. I wasn't forced to do some random tests or surgery for removal. I have had bad experiences with Vets in the past. But never at VCA. Pet care is expensive... but VCA has always provided upfront estimates and NEVER has my payment been on the high end of that estimate. I'm always surprised it turns out to be on the low end. Also, they TEXT!! When I send a message about a concern... they respond all the time, and fast!! VCA is great! The docs and staff are great! They know my dogs needs, temperaments and breed specifics!
