A ridiculous, unprofessional, and horrible excuse for a medical professional and medical office! If you are seeking true expert support for your ENT needs, keep looking. This doctor and practice are a disgrace. I am the primary holder of our insurance and am appalled at the service my husband received. He has faced issues with his breathing for years. He cannot breathe through his nose and his PCP recommended he see an ENT to ensure the issues was addressed so as not to cause strain on his heart as he ages. When he visited Dr. Karin back in June, he was asked a couple brief questions, no exam. Dr. Karin told him "some people just can't breathe through their nose." WHAT?!?! That is unacceptable! Provide some actual information and support. Dr. Karin spent no more than a few minutes with my husband, then sent him off to pick a OCT nasal pray and told him to come back for a follow-up in a couple weeks... My husband made arrangements with work for the follow-up. The morning of (with less than an hour notice) Dr. Karin's office called and cancelled on him! They then said their system was down and would have to call him back to reschedule. It's been WEEKS and we have not received a call back. Then the real kicker...Dr. Karin had the nerve to bill our insurance company $745.00, most of which was applied to our deductible hitting us with a $550.00 bill. For WHAT?!?! For asking a couple questions, providing NO EXAM, and flaking on the follow-up appointment! What a disgusting disgrace of a medical professional. Rom Karin is amazing doctor, I had an opportunity to meet the doctor Karin 10 years ago when I had my tonsils removed and agin coupe years ago I had some sinus problems and I had to do a nose surgery, all my experiences with doctor Karin were outstanding! Was sent to see Dr. Karin as a 2nd opinion for a sinus issue. First & only time I saw him...he walked in with an arrogant smile and I thought, uh-oh what'd I get myself into? I told him the details of my problem and the treatment I'd had in the past for it. I told him I had tried antibiotics in the past and that the same drug that I was given, I had become immune to (surprise, surprise). He didn't say anything to that. He heard my concerns, turned around and started typing on his computer. I was surprised he hadn't said much through all that I explained. So, I decided to ask questions to get him talking. EVERY response I got was "I don't know, maybe?" . SERIOUSLY????????????? If you don't know, then why the hell are you a doctor? Arrogance & being dismissive when you're supposed to help me isn't acceptable. I was shocked at his reply so I sat quietly. He started tapping on his computer again. After he finished, he told me he was giving me an antibiotic - right after me telling him how the last one I took for the issue did not work. Okay, obviously I'm no doctor and I know there's different antibiotics out there but he should've explained the difference(s), etc. to help me understand. He prescribed 2 medications, an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory. I was so angry by the time he was done that I didn't bother asking any more questions because I knew what the answer would be. I went straight to my local pharmacy to pick up my meds. My pharmacist explained the meds to me in detail when HE DIDN'T! On top of that, finding out the hard way, I found out that the anti-inflammatory could cause your blood pressure to rise significantly with you're dealing with HBP. After taking 2 days of that med (before I knew of that side effect), my blood pressure skyrocketed! I felt sick & was scared. I called his office to speak to his nurse (who gave me more info than he did) and asked her if he even looked at ALLLLLLLL the paperwork I filled out and saw that I had HBP. She assured me that he did but I didn't buy it. The nurse later got back to me, after speaking with him about that med, and explained how I should immediately taper off. I was supposed to have a follow-up with him but decided to see a different doctor in the same office. The OTHER doctor I had was wonderful. STAY CLEAR OF DR. KARIN IF YOU WANT COMMUNICATION & A PROPER DIAGNOSIS!!!!! I found out later from the 2nd doctor I saw in their office that what Dr. Karin thought was my problem, most likely wasn't and I had already taken a lot of the antibiotic for NOTHING. My pain hadn't gone away but the 2nd doctor helped me figure out what the real issue was and put me on the right path. read more

Dr. Karin has done two procedures on my sinuses over the years. He came highly recommended by my uncle, also a surgeon in Palo Alto. In all my interactions with Dr Karin he has been incredibly professional, laser focused and highly skilled. Before this most recent procedure, a turbinate reduction, I naively thought to talk to an ENT closer to home, and walked away from that consultation thinking 'No way.'. Called Dr Karin's office immediately on the way home, discussed the situation in his office, and knew right then who I wanted to do this surgery. My procedure was great, the surgical facilities top notch, and I was back to work a couple days later. I have been having some trouble for three months as of now, since the beginning of March. Seen multiple specialists, including a pulmanologist, who referred me to check with an ENT, as regular asthma medications do not work. During my attempts to find diagnosis and treatment , that works, I have had 2 COVID 19 tests, which both came back negative. Dr. Karin refused to see me unless I have a 3rd test, although my CV antibody test has come back negative only 3 weeks ago. Dr. Rom Karin is one of the best doctors I've ever seen! I am a young woman in my thirties and I've had three botched rhinoplasty's. He was able to give me a comprehensive analysis of the issues, CT scan of my face, and recommendations of how (and who) to move forward with which made me feel at ease. He patiently walked me through all of his research and spent a good hour answering ALL my questions. The front desk staff was also sweet and friendly. So i went to see Dr. Karin...yes i had to wait a while but that doesnt bother me...to me its a sign of a doctor whos taking time with his patients so i appreciate that. I had septoplasty and turbinate reduction in July and I was very nervous before the surgery and also after concerning the recovery, but Dr. Karin reassured me well and answered all my questions, so I felt I was in good hands. The Good: 1. Treatment wasn't any harmful: My problem didn't go away, but maybe that's the end of science and I wouldn't blame the provider for it :). 2. Interfacing in person: Courteous and Professional. I also felt he takes unnecessarily excessive time to explain simple things and skips over the real meat. 3. Office environment: Not a crowded street, not a crowded office, Laid back environment with Very neat interiors and furnitures (including a courtesy coffee/tea) etc. Welcome to Los Gatos! The Bad: 1. Medical knowledge - I wasn't fully convinced coz I failed to understand the causes of the issue from him. And that casts a little doubt on "availability of treatment options" other than what he mentioned. 2. Pricing - It IS on the high side but my only gripe was about how it was split into deceitfully little numbers. Also, I felt like the staff (not sure if that includes the doctor as well) were little sales'ey and pushy about selling their diagnostic services. This Yelp page should address the work of Dr. Rom Karin and not his staff. So those of you who rate his staff poorly, should do so on a different Yelp page. I have had chronic ear issues since i was 4 years old and i am now 28. I almost went deaf at 4 years old and i've had ear tubes 5 times, with the 5th ear tube implant being a permanent one (per my request). My parents have always taken me to the best doctors around (being that i was born in the Bay Area at Stanford Hospital) so we have seen 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions. We settled with Dr. Karin after my initial doctor in Palo Alto retired. We felt most comfortable with Dr. Karin for a few reasons: 1) His credentials and experience. 2) His ear equipment was and still is the most advanced we had witnessed in any ENT Dr office environment. 3) He never pressured us into surgeries, whereas other doctors tried to. 4) He has a very calming demeanor and remembers personal details from years prior. What Dr Karin has performed on me: 1) ear tube implantation. 2) adenoid removal. 3) tonsil removal and 4) patching of a perforated ear. Each surgery was performed with excellence and i never had any issues recovering. Follow up was wonderful and he would personally call to check in on me while i was resting. I would highly recommend Dr Karin to anyone reading this who has ear issues or who has a child needing tube implantation. He has been my ENT since i was very young and he is absolutely the best. read more

Couldn't tell you if the doctor is any good. But his office staff is anal retentive about how long it takes to do paperwork. Make sure you don't encounter any traffic on the way to your appointment because they'll tell you it takes exactly 20 minutes to fill out their forms and even though you'll probably end up sitting around the waiting room if they're like every other doctor's office on the planet, they'll say they need to reschedule and bring the next person in instead. Doesn't really seem to matter how trivial the reason for your visit might be. The important thing is that everybody knows you can't fill out medical forms in less than 20 minutes for goodness sake! When I first saw this Yelp page the first things I thought were 1. Why does this Dr have so few reviews? And 2. Wow...2/3 are bad. I def normally would have kept away from this guy - but I needed an apt STAT for a throat problem I was having, and I needed a place close to my work, and a place that took my insurance. Up popped Dr. Rom and I thought "What the hay" I'm SO glad I went- and here is why. 1. I called on Friday afternoon and they were able to get me in Monday morning. AWESOME! 2. I went in to find an almost completely empty waiting room - 2 people! Freakin sweet 3. The two ladies behind the counter were not only friendly & helpful, but funny as well. 4. I filled out my new patient paperwork and was called back within 5 minutes! 5. The lady/nurse who took me back to weigh me and get my vitals was ALSO friendly and funny! 6. Dr. Rom didn't keep me waiting AT ALL. When the nurse left the room I grabbed my phone thinking "Okay now for the real wait" NO! I didn't even have time to finish reading the text I opened and he knocked on the door. I made to sure to tell him, "Wow. That is the fastest a DR has EVER come to the room!" 7. I explained to Dr. Rom what was going on and he let me explain clearly while he asked some question (never once cutting me off). He showed me his high tech/fancy screen with the virtual tour of the throat and explained what he thought was bothering me, etc. He was extremely informative and answered most questions before I even had to ask them (I hate when Drs just say a closed ended statement with a diagnosis and expect that to be the extent of your communication). Once he made his diagnosis/assessment - he let me ask questions WITHOUT rushing me or talking over me. That is so rare! So often you feel like a Dr is just trying to rush you along so they can get to the next person and I didn't feel like that at all. Maybe I lucked out and he had a completely free morning? No idea- but either way it was a relaxed, comfortable, friendly environment and visit ALL around. All in all - I was back at work within 45 minutes of leaving! Given the fact that I work about 5 minutes down the street - it was by far, the fastest appointment EVER. If I ever have a ear, nose, or throat issue for an otolaryngologist - I will come back here to Dr. Rom. read more

I can't really say that I've experienced a better septoplasty & rhinoplasty (deviated septum and bone shaving of the nose), because I've never had one, but I can tell anyone who is also interested in how you are treated during office visits, calling because you're scared and bleeding or want to speak to your doctor for aftercare questions...DON'T GO TO THE "LOS GATOS EYE, NOSE & EAR CLINIC". I was left waiting in the waiting room for an hour after an app't. because no one thought to contact me to tell me an emergency arrived and the dr. couldn't see me on time. You end up leaving msgs. w/ass'ts. who can't answer anything, and you never hear from the dr. Now they are trying to collect more money on services already paid saying that they never quoted the price that they quoted. It's just awful service. RUN! TO SOMEPLACE ELSE! read more

Dr. Karin was the only ENT Doctor to respond to my Moms ICU situation at Good Samaritan on a weekend. Doctor Karin came in confident, cerebral, and team oriented working with Emergency Room Personnel & ICU Teams. I was skeptical about ENT's after my Mom surgery with the original ENT that performed the initial surgery. The original ENT could care less of my Moms issues following the throat surgery. However, Doctor Karin came in well humored making me feel that things were gonna turn out ok after feeling defeated facing a dire situation. Doctor Karin identified the issues, and essentially has overseen my Moms recovery for a 1-2 year period. Her health and well being has been tied to Doctors & Nurses from Good Samaritan, and Dr. Karin being the main reason she's alive today. We couldn't have done the journey without him. Dr. Karin uses all the latest in technology, while his clinic feels like a warm home. All his staff is also just as caring & knowledgeable as well. There is no ENT more qualified than Doctor Karin, and I will always be grateful for the caring & resolve he has shown us. Doctor Karin is one of the best Doctors I have come across. Seeing his office adorned with all of his educational accomplishments in the ENT space doesn't hurt either. read more

Dr Karin fixed my deviated septum and did my Rhinoplasty surgery - He was wonderful, I am really happy with my results!! The staff were super friendly and helpful, the office is clean and I was always helped if I needed to reschedule my appointment (which was often). I felt like I was in good hands throughout the whole process. Dr Karin is a perfectionist, which is why he is so good. He takes the extra time with you and never rushes you out the door. I had an appointment with Dr. Karin at 9:30 and was told to come in an hour earlier to do paperwork and also get the hearing test done! I showed up at 8:30 and the filled out and showed my card when the rude receptionist yelled out "you didn't tell us your insurance is with Covered California"? I told her when I called to make the appointment last week the person on the phone took all my insurance information and if you don't accept it perhaps you should've told me! Anyhow after going back and forth for a bit they asked me for cash payment!!! I did reluctantly pay them $100 in cash! I had my hearing test done which took about 15 minutes and then sat in the waiting room to see Dr. Karin for a good hour before being called to see him! I sat in the room while Dr. Karin kept going on and on about my insurance to one of his staff! He kept me waiting for another 45 minutes! I was so furious at this point that if I hadn't paid the $100 I would've have walked out of his office! He came in at 11:15 and was so concerned about my insurance that I told him off the bat that I had paid $100 in cash and he seemed relieved!!! He saw me for 5 minutes and left promptly! I left the office about 11:25! Three hours for 15 minutes of test and 5 minutes with a greedy money hungry doctor that obviously had no regards for patients and their time but only his own! I am so disappointed to see people like this call themselves doctors when they took the oath to care for patients and not just what we could pay! I don't know where the bad reviews come from. My appointment was for 1:45 and I was told to be there early to fill out papers. They called me in at 1:43 and the doctor came in 1 or 2 minutes after the blood pressure, etc. was done and the tech left. He answered all my questions, ordered blood tests and I was out of there by 2:15. The office staff and nurses were great. This review is mostly for the staff, not for the doctor. My son was Dr. Karin's patient. My son's pediatrician recommended Dr Karin and I called to make an appointment. They asked us to arrive 25min before the appointment to fill out forms. We arrived 25 min before the appointment as asked, took 5 mins to fill out the form and waited.. and waited. After waiting 1 hour 15 mins with my 5 year old, finally we were able to see the Dr. Little apology or some explanation for the delay would have been nice. No, not in this office. Second visit was better in terms of waiting. My son got hearing test done. Person who does testing didn't talk a word during the whole testing, no explanation on what she's doing and no word on what the result was after it's done. After the testing, we met with Dr. Karin. He pretty much repeated what he told us in our first meeting. Later we found out that 10 min meeting cost us $300 for "consulting fee". He recommended tonsillectomy, and a nurse scheduled a surgery. She was nice and she explained that Dr will be on vacation and they have to schedule his surgery a month later and the surgery has to be done on 6 am because that's easier for him to fest that way. 3 days before the surgery, someone from surgery center, not from Dr. Karin, left a voice message saying that we need to show up 1 hour before the surgery, 8:45 am. That can't be right, surgery was scheduled for 6 am and we made all the arrangements for that. I called the center to correct the schedule but couldn't get a hold of anybody (silliconvalley surgery). I then called Dr Karin's office and the staff said, "Oh, we changed the schedule because there's a patient younger than your son". I asked her, "shouldn't someone call me to confirm that with me?". She said "Our nurse told you that surgery schedule can change anytime". First, no she didn't, but even if she did, that doesn't mean that you can change the schedule without asking me first. To give credit to Dr, my son's surgery was successful, but I won't go to this office again and I don't recommend to anybody. read more

My 17 year old daughter was referred to Dr. Rom Karin for chronic tonsillitis. After reviewing the remarks in other yelp reviews I was unsure if I should schedule an appointment with him. I am glad that I did. I found the office staff polite, courteous and efficient. I was advised that I would be scheduled into the office 30 min. prior to seeing the Doctor to complete new patient paperwork. I set my appointment for the first available after their lunch period. This was perfect timing as the office was uncrowned. My check-in was quick and friendly. While I completed the forms a staff member walked into the waiting room to give me back my insurance card. We had a very short wait in the Doctor's office before Dr. Karin greeted us. He is a very professional looking man with a kind attitude. I liked the fact that he spoke to my daughter directly during the exam and while he discussed different options to correct her chronic problem. He had very up to date computer programs that he used to illustrate his points on a flat screen. He had a pleasant attitude, seemed interested in my daughter's questions and made us both feel comfortable. I notice that when we left the office the reception area had filled. I was happy I scheduled my appointment as I did. We plan to follow the Doctor's recommendation and have surgery in mid-August. read more

I was referred to Dr. Karin by another surgeon to remove a lipoma on the left side of my neck. I was concerned about the procedure as well as what scarring I may have as a result of surgery. Once I met Dr. Karin my fears subsided. He answered all of my questions. I was in and out of surgery in less than 40 minutes. I just went for my one week follow up visit and other than the slight brusing from the surgery you can expect, the incision is seamless. I can hardly tell i had surgery. He exceeded my expectations with both the surgery experience as well as the results. I'm so grateful to have been referred to him. Great surgeon! His staff is friendly as well. I never had to wait for his services as some of the reviews expressed. Even if I did, he is well worth the wait! If you need to see an ENT, look no further than Dr. Karin. read more

Dr Karin's office is a joke! They have no consideration for anyone's time but their own. A week ago, on June 4th, I had a 2:30 appointment. At 3:30, I gave up and left. At 5, I received a phone call from the office asking what happened, so I explained that my time is valuable, just like the doctor's, and that if the doctor was running 1+ hours behind a courtesy call would have been nice or at a minimum let me know this when I checked in. After all of the apologies, they talked me into rescheduling for today, June 11th, at 2 PM. I told them that I could not be delayed due to another doctor's appointment at 3:30 in a different office. I arrive at 1:55 and check in. At 2:10 I explain to the people at the front desk that I waited over an hour the previous week and that I have another doctor's appointment at 3:30. Their reply? After talking to the doctor's secretary, your appointment is at 2:30 and the doctor is running a little late so I guess you should reschedule your 3:30!
