super lost. literally rn. me and my friend went on a 30 minute run. it has become a hour and 30 minute run because we are completely lost. they dont have a trail map, they dont have a map on apple maps or google maps, they dont have a number to call or a park ranger to contact. what if one of us got severely hurt while lost how would we get help? this is actually ridiculous. and when i did call the number they have listed its just to make appointments. i said F it and tried to talk to someone atleast. when i mentioned talking to a park ranger they gave me a attitude and said "we dont give out park rangers numbers" and the proceeds to give me the number to call, which was the same number i had just called. so thanks. i really appreciate the help. we have been lost for a hour, dehydrated and exhausted. its cool tho we men, we will figure it out thanks to no body. read more

New favorite park alert!! This place is awesome and educational. A bunch of different trail options with clear wide paths and good signage. Completely wooded area that's not too far from the city. Kids of all ages enjoying the nature center and rock playground. Relatively easy walk with minimal elevation. Dog friendly. Tons of parking. The place was very clean with no litter in sight. So many different play areas! I love the indoor nature center and the wonderful natural (and gated) "treehouse" area outside of that. There are two playgrounds that are completely different from each other. One is a "Panther's Training Center" theme and the other is a more traditional playground with a toddler and 5-12 play area. The trails are wonderful. I took my little dude out for a trail run in his stroller and trails were nicely kept but natural enough to feel "away from it all". read more

I've been meaning to check out this park/nature preserve for a while now and finally made it recently. We made a big loop connecting a bunch of the trails. We started at the nature center and linked together these trails: Umbrella Tree Trail, South Fork Trail, Robinson Rockhouse Trail, Sassafras Trail, and Dragonfly Pond Trail. None of the trails are very long and they're all pretty flat. We spent maybe a couple of hours there exploring. It's a pretty area with some wetlands, a stream, the rock house preserves, and a pond. This is a great place to spend some time outside in Charlotte. read more

A nice park w/a lot of trails that kind of intertwine into each other. Not crowded on a Sunday afternoon at all on any of the trails. The trails themselves vary from dense woods to going along two ponds: Dragonfly & Kingfisher, with Dragonfly being the bigger of the two. A lot of people fishing there. The wooded trails have some minimal elevation and are super easy, especially if you are getting into trail running, but nothing really spectacular. I had see pics of mushrooms, abundant wildlife, water features and even some old building ruins, but after going on 4 diff trails did not see any of that. There was a nature center that was supposed to be open, but doors were locked, so not sure what was up w/that. Trails seem to be well-maintained and it was a good walk (I did 3+mi in total), but nothing overly spectacular or unique. There is a cute "Turtle X-ing" sign, but the little pond had no turtles in sigh, sadly. read more

If you have a dog, this place has a nice dog park. All the dogs out there are well-behaved (amazingly, in 7 years I've never seen a fight) and you won't need more than 30 minutes or so to let them run around. read more

We explored this park last Saturday morning while practicing social distancing. We had never been here before. While driving through the park, we were amazed at everything that was offered here. From basketball courts, to playground equipment, to picnic sites, and even a disc golf course, there is something for everyone! We drove down and parked at the very end of the park, by the nature preserve. There were several trails we could choose from, and we were excited! We ended up walking two trails, and it was over 2 1/2 miles of green nature. We encountered a few people-some who were running the trails, while others were walking with their families. The trails were very well marked. We will definitely be back here again! read more

So I was actually selling some children video's on FB Marketplace and the lady asked me to meet her here. I was a bit hesitant but said sure and figured me and my son could make a trip out of it. And I am so glad we did. We went to the nature preserve and walked a couple of trails. We had fun, the kiddo was able to learn some things and the trail we went on was very easy to walk. I loved the outdoor natural playground that they have for the kids outside the nature center. It really allows the kids to just have fun but utilize their imagination at the same time. This park is huge too. There is a lot to do and discover. You could easily spend an entire day here. read more

We were looking for something fun to do together as a small group when we discovered that Reedy Creek Park in the University Area had Disc (Frisbee) Golf. We bought a couple of cheap frisbees from Target and made our way to the park one afternoon. The course is an 18-hole course where you try to toss your frisbee into a chain "hole" sticking up above the ground. It turned out to be much more challenging than we were expecting. For one, the course is not level. It's over the river and through the woods (with no Grandmother's house in sight). You're not only playing frisbee golf, you're hiking! The course was up and down hills and each hole was quite the distance. It turned out to be a lot of fun, but we definitely got a workout that we weren't expecting. Next time, though, we'll splurge a little more with the frisbees. Cheap ones don't work very well for disc golf; you need distance. read more

Visited for the first time this past weekend. A lot of people had the same idea & after going I can see why. They had fault new aground sets, spots for horseshoe, a dog park, volleyball net, great hiking trails and ponds to walk around. I also saw a lot of families fishing. The trail was not too long or difficult and it had great shade from all the trees. There was also so much open grass area a lot of people were just laying out or having a picnic. This is a spot I will be visiting again! read more

I love coming to Reedy Creek park because it's a place to get away and enjoy nature, play basketball, kickball, or enjoy a picnic. My neighbor invited me out for a fun-filled Saturday of kickball. It was the youngins vs the old heads. Yep, the parents played the kids. We had a ball and yes you guessed it....the old heads won! It just so much diversity out at the park. Something for everyone to do. Make sure you take plenty of water....you're going to need it. read more

As for the dog park: I came in december and the park had zero grass, not surprised. But they also did not have poop bags, plenty of poop stations, doesnt seem like the poop bags are regularly replenished. I can also see that there are two sections to the dog park, 1 for 20lb and under another 20lb and over. The size comparison between the two sections are laughable. The one that is for the small dogs is soooo small. There are benches and picnic tables, there are buckets here for water and a water source. There are also trash cans. I can see when it rain it can get vey muddy here, it isnt raining now and it's already muddy. Overall this is an OK dog park, i wouldnt go out of my way to come here if you are contemplating if it's worth the drive. The trails: Very easy to get lost, not very scenic. Actually saw the creek, not that impressive. I recommend hiking with a friend. The trails have multiple splitting points and everything starts to blend in because there are a lot of different shelters. I found my way back to my car by asking directions. Definitely dont come after it gets dark, but i think it is closed after 6pm anyway. read more

A beautiful park not far from the university area. Miles of trails, a dog park, a nature center, several playgrounds and multiple ponds. There are also a bunch of grill and picnic areas if you want to have a family gathering or just a nice weekend out with some friends. The trails seem pretty well maintained, and there isn't a ton of elevation change, just know that if you're someone who likes listening to music while you jog the cell service is pretty bad (at least on T-Mobile). If you're looking to get a little fresh air in your life it might be worth a visit. read more

Huge outdoor space to do just about anything from riding your bike, walking your dog on a trail, brining the kids along to play at the huge playground to going fishing this place has it all. I love coming to this park with my Chihuahua. It really is super nice especially in the spring/summer and even in the fall. There's some great trails to walk around and get your exercise in and get some fresh air. There's a really nice lake to sit by & there's even a playground for a little kids so the whole family can go!! It's actually a lot bigger than I expected the first time that I visited but I love it because it's so close to the university area and where I live that it's not a long drive and I find myself looking forward to the next time I get to go. I'll probably be here a lot this summer. Another thing I want to add is that technically the park does close at 5:00 I believe but there is no gate code or security patrolling to make sure that people aren't going in past 5:00 and a lot of times that's when my schedule is freer so I end up just going when it's "closed". No ones ever stopped me before lol read more

This review is for the Reedy Creek Park and Nature Center which is located in Reddy Creek Park. Was here for their Edible Plant Hike. Fun program to bring the kids to as well as for adults to learn about what is edible and what is not when you are out there hiking, in the woods or anywhere there are trees and flora. There are 7 hiking trails ranging from 0.25 miles to 1 miles We were on the Umbella Tree Trail which was a 1 mile hike. Tips -Wear sneaker and comfortable shoes. Easy to step on a rock and slide -No texting there are uphill and down hill in these trails. One can really hurt themselves. -Bring water there is refilling station (fountain) at the Nature Center -Take a map just in case -Bring friends along and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings. Check out the Backyard Habitat Garden- Photo ops with butterflies, hummingbirds and honeysuckle. Parking area for the Nature Center is relatively small and gets packed with events. Will be back to hike through their other trails and see other parts of the park. read more

When I say I'm going to the park, this is the park to which I am going. It's a beautiful, amply forested piece of land, with a large dog park and some interesting and challenging trails. My usual routine involves taking my fuzzy four-legged companion around the long Sierra Loop trail. I enjoy the scenery and peace; he enjoys the smells and squirrels. We then end the afternoon at the dog park where he burns off the remainder of his energy and socializes with other canines. The dog area is equipped with a watering station and a hosing-down station. The lakes are good fishing, if you're into that sort of thing. The nature center is charming and has a classroom for kid-oriented educational activities. There's also a gift shop, so buy a tee shirt and support the facility! A final point of interest is the farmhouse ruins off the main trail... if you can manage to sneak out there with no one else around, it's quite tranquil. We only have used the dog park at Reedy Creek, and it's pretty good. It's huge, fenced in, and they have a separate little enclosed park for dogs under 20 lbs. Part of this park is wooded for shade, and part of it is open.They have plenty of picnic tables and benches around, and buckets of water for the dogs. Sometimes it does get annoying though, when people bring their small dogs in and then yell at big dogs when they try to play with the small dogs. I saw a woman whack the ears of a husky with the back of her leash because he was trying to play with her tiny 5 lb dog. If you don't like that, keep your dog in the small dog area. read more

Never realized this park and it's many amenities until the other day when the local Run For Your Life University location had a trail shoe demo here. Keep in mind I had already run on the greenway 5 miles so I was thinking we would try the shoes, jog a couple feet and then give the shoes back... nope... it was full on group run... for another 3 miles. Kinda brutal, but kinda fun... especially since I had never been to the park before and it was nice to see all the different trails, the playground for the kids, the basketball court, the awesome Frisbee golf course.... I'm sure I am missing something here- the park is HUGE! Definitely plan to have runs here more (especially in the summer since the trials are nice and shaded) and you don't have to stop for traffic, etc.... whoops take that back, I think the roads within the park cross some of the trails (so remember to look both ways!). read more

I'm so grateful to have so many parks and dedicated green spaces in the city of Charlotte and Reedy Creek Park does not disappoint! Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve happens to be pretty close to our house so it is very easy to get to you and once there is very well marked with signage. There seems to be a little something for everyone - there is a dog park on your right just as you enter the park, they have covered shelters for picnics and celebrations, ball parks for some good ol' fashion ball games and then there is the Reedy Creek Nature Preserve which has a ton of trails and some really interesting education exhibits and displays! We came here first to geocache but came back for the dog park which is where we meet up with our dog trainer! For Brandie's List of Bravos and Boos, you will find: Bravos: - Large size dog park with dedicated areas for both large and small dogs. - Multiple public geocaches placed throughout the park so you can spend a couple hours hiking and geocaching in the same place. - Areas and trails that are very well signed and labeled for easy access. Boos: - Dog Park can become extremely muddy after a major rain or snow. - Would love to have a body of water for water activities such as canoeing or paddle boating. read more

I enjoy this park, which is very convenient to the University/Harrisburg area. There's plenty of playground and recreational area at the beginning of the park, including a very large fenced in dog park that seems to get pretty decent use. The part of this park I most enjoy though are the trails back near the Nature Center. While I haven't gone to the Nature Center, it seems to have an interesting array of programs, mostly geared towards kids. There are two ponds in the middle of the trail areas. There's also a pretty large disc golf course back in this area. If you hop on the main loop, you'll find yourself on a wooded trail that's a couple of miles long. There are some very pretty sites, and depending on the time of year you may find yourself surrounded by beautiful flowers and butterflies. It's a mildly trafficked area, and I spot lots of dogs out for walks on this loop! All in all, a really enjoyable park with lots to do. read more

I like parks. And I love this park in Charlotte. There are city parks and then their are city parks that almost make you forget that you are in a city over a million. Granted, it's not the Yosemite, or the Algonquin. It doesn't have Lake Norman or the coastline. But it's got two fantastic ponds you can run around, sit and tan, even fish. It has disc golf course, several trekking routes that is grest for running to get you back into shape, and a couple of basketball courts, a baseball diamond, volleyball net, a little playgound for kids, a nature preserve, a small museum, and I haven't camped out there but I'm pretty sure they have a site for that. And hey, if you get too hot having fun, there's an ice cream shop right beside the big ooen area where I usually play one man baseball. It's a great park overall. If you expect a 10 mile trekking course it's not for you but I'd say you can combine all three and get a pretty good workout and enjoy the little ponds at the same time. So if you live inside the city limita of Charlotte, kind of tired of Freedom park and similar pretty parks, go over to Reedy Creek park! read more

There are so many dogs at this park, it felt like an entrance requirement. The trails are well kept and maps well placed to help you figure out where you are. If you are a biker, you won't be able to go everywhere since many trails are for hikers. Don't be disappointed, there is plenty of space to go around. read more

This park is such a wonderful place to just get away and enjoy nature. The park is so big that it is impossible for you to feel crowded or worry that people are paying you any attention. It is absolutely family friendly with a beautiful nature preserve center, Panthers theme playground and outdoor camp for kids. The park has several picnic shelters that can be reserved; some with water and electricity. There are several open fields with and sports fields for any team to use. Basketball courts for fun. There are also about 3-4 large ponds each with fish and plenty of turtles; fishing is allowed. The hiking trails are long and range in difficulty for any level. Lastly a dog park that and recycling center that is always kept up. The only downfall is that there are black snakes but they are harmless and you can't stop all of nature. read more

Equal parts trail running and disc golf for me. Though I don't make it up to this side of town often, it's a solid place for tons of activities. The disc golf course is challenging and tends to be pretty busy. Some of the baskets are pretty heavily wooded and make for careful and strategic approaches. Can't say I've played this course but maybe half a dozen times, so I don't know it super well. I tend to like the baskets that require longer drives and this course is more packed with par 3 and 4's. There are tons of other aspects I dig here too -- waterfront/boardwalk, open fields for frisbee, tons of gazeebos for picnics/cookouts, great for walking, etc. It's really pretty with plenty of parking. I loved Reedy Creek when I lived in Charlotte and would make frequent trips to take my four legged pal there. The dog park is a large space. it used to be membership only which made it awesome because the real dog lovers would pay the nominal fee for a pass. I believe it is now open to the public which makes it a lot more of a quesiton mark but still enjoyable. The hiking trails are great and there is terrain for everyone. The Dog Park is very nice, the larger dog portion and it includes a trail! Unfortunately the smaller section is too small and not as nice but my miniature poodle enjoyed the larger dog park! The Nature Trails that are offer are very scenic and beautiful, very family friendly park! I would recommend to anyone to go out and enjoy a beautiful Saturday or Sunday at this park!! read more

This city park has a lot to offer, but beware of getting lost on the trails. I took my brother out here for a hike one day while he was visiting. We planned to hike for about an hour, which turned into almost two hours on a day that was nearly 100 degrees. Some of the trails are not very well marked, making it a little confusing to navigate your way back. Enough about the bad stuff - here is the great stuff. First, it's FREE. Second, they have several miles of trails, which is amazing to me in a city park. Three, they have plenty of nice areas to picnic. Fourth, they do have a nature center, but I don't know what the hours are. While it's not my favorite city park to visit, it is close and convenient to me. Next time I think I'll print off and bring a map with me. read more
