Recently had the salmon ravioli which was sooooo good. Tender homemade ravioli pockets stuffed with lots of salmon and topped with an intense and creamy white sauce. Husband had homemade tagliatelle with Italian sausage, mushrooms and truffle oil. Wine is always perfect and served at proper temp. Moreover, our entire meal including wine and tip cost less than $30. It is Mexico after all. This is a divine place to indulge in real Italian food made by real Italians. Love the homey atmosphere. Service was first class ,food was the best italian that we have ever had,including several trips to Italy. The chef/ owner is from Milan and lovingly creates each dish to perfection. It was average but definitely not Pizza Hut! That's important because you are getting a real pizza. Cheese was about the right amount for a true margarita. However, when compared to the local competitors like Cenacolo,3 or 3.5 is a truer rating. We've been 3 times now . This time was our best meals yet! It's small but quaint. Great pasta. I had seafood pasta with a whole lobster, clams, and shrimp. Garlic, and olive oil plus the parm. Cheese on our table. Awesome. Even better the next day! Hubby had mushroom and spinach ravioli with the most amazing creme sauce ever! I want that recipe! Nice salad too. I stare at the pizza our neighbors got . It looks great. Service wasn't great, but we saw our waiter, who we hadn't seen in a while walk in carrying a case of something. So let me start by saying Playa del Carmen is a very awesome place to travel. However, if you can't stomach extreme touristy, over priced and corporate-like restaurants like me; you tend to venture out and find something better than the touristy garbage that 5th ave has to offer here in Playa. I recently was in Playa for 8 days and stumbled across Romeo's on day 1 after being disgusted by 5th ave. after our first meal here, we returned two more times. This tiny quaint little spot is amazing! The food is out of this world and better than most Italian I've had ever. The owner is straight from Italy and prepares every dish in an authentic Italian way. Every plate is finely decorated and the flavor will knock your socks off! Over our 3 different meals we had pizza, salad, appetizers, sea food, meat, pasta and dessert. Everything is of high quality and won't let you down. The prices are extremely reasonable. A beer will cost you 2$ and a nice house wine will cost you 3-4$. Each plate will run from 8-12$. This place won't break your bank like others will do for less than quality food. The service is great but some people complain that it is too slow! I'll take slow service and wait if the food is great; which this is! People need to realize: We are not in the USA where most restaurants are of fast pace with the "serve them and get them out of here" mentality. Waiting is something most Americans can't do anymore. But put your ego aside and five this place a shot and you will not be dissatisfied. I was impressed with the staff to be honest. There is one waiter, two drink girls / bussers / food runners. These people are running a muck to make your dinner a good one. Watching these people work so hard for their customers is great and they deserve the top tip requirement of 15% which I found low and tipped more because they deserved it. This place is absurd. It's un-f*cking-believably good. I was shocked, I mean the place is located in Playa Del Carmen, a total tourist trap not known for its gastronomy, but here you have one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever eaten at. I don't say this lightly... Italian food is my favourite cuisine and I have eaten in Italy, so my stomach has a long history with it. ALL the pasta is home made, and I had the meat tortellini which was exquisite. The pasta was perfect in texture, the meat delicious and from what I could tell had been ground at the restaurant and not bought ready-minced. We also had the octopus salad which was delicious. I desperately wanted to go back everyday but didn't have time. I did manage to get a take away pizza which was also perfect... One of the main things I miss in Latin America generally, having been to Bolivia, Peru, Argentina and now Mexico, is good Pizza! It's always undercooked and the base too thick or with no enough tomatoe, so it was amazing to eat an authentic Italian pizza there. The service is exceptional, so do ignore the other review as they have definitely sorted this out. They have a really on it Spanish head waiter (I'm half Spanish and believe that no other country excels in waitering skills as Spain does!) Who knows the menu inside out. The Chef is of course Italian and is just incredible. Do NOT miss this place if you're in Playa, shockingly good. This is a small open-air restaurant which is very popular with those staying in PDC long term and I know why. The food was so good, we ate there twice. The food, Italian/Mediterranean is first rate and fresh. We split the antipasti platter and it was the best I've ever tasted. The mozzarella ball is fresh from a local woman and when you cut into it, it is creamy inside. Words are not enough to express the quality of the meats and cheeses in this dish. We also spit a pizza from the wood fired oven. It was very reasonably priced and big enough for two. The only negative in both meals was that in the pasta, the langustino was a little overcooked. The rule in Mexico is AVOID salad, but they looked so good here I tried them. I was not disappointed. I went back for a second salad. In my month long stay it was the only salad I tried and they were both delicious. I had no stomach issues, but if I did, I may have considered the problem worth the price .
