This was our first stay at Romer. We stayed one night for a show at 54 Below and really enjoyed it. We had a King room on the 6th floor. The room was well-furnished, spacious, clean and comfortable, just like the photos on the website. There was a special offer and we took advantage of that discount on their website for our night. They offer a similar discount for returning guests. I removed a half star because there is no coffee maker in the room, but the cafe in the lobby is very good. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The "So And So" lounge/restaurant off the lobby looks great ( we'll try next time). Parking was so convenient adjacent to the front door and reasonable ($65 over night). Loved the vibe of this hotel. Loved the colors, the design and the furnishings throughout the building. The public areas and lobby were very cool and calm. Very convenient to the theater district, but out of the commotion of Times Square. We'll be back soon. read more

I would be careful listening to reviews telling you the hotel is clean and comfortable. The hotel was clean. However, the hotel did not provide enough hot water to take a shower longer than two minutes, so baths for two young children was not something that could happen. Housekeeping kept the room at 65 degrees. Any effort to increase the temp to 70 degrees was met with housekeeping adjustments. That's relevant: The hotel accused me of smoking, twice. Letters claimed there were detected particulates in the air and a room temperature of 80 degrees. Management refused to come up to the room to understand the impossiblity of a room at 80 degrees at 7:01am but 65 degrees by 7:30am. A 15 degree drop would take at least an hour and perhaps as long as three hours. That refusal cost our family a day and a half of our trip. Hotel reception explained we would have to meet with management downstairs as the smoking fees for each event had already charged to our room. Management would be available in thirty mintutes. We went down at the scheduled time but the manager was still off site - on the way. He rescheduled for an hour later. Management did not show for that meeting either and rescheduled for early afternoon. Again, not there. Towards the end of the day we received a telephone call from the manager who offered only that telephone meeting and a referral to corporate (which made us wonder why anyone had insisted on and scheduled meetings downstairs). Corporate emails doubled down - their equipment was checked and found sufficient. If that is the case, I don't see how it's possible that the device was located in my hotel room. While we were waiting for the meetings management missed, I read Reddit reviews that warn of this as a scam in this hotel. Because of the way we were treated by hotel management and corporate staff, I understand why folks complaining on Reddit's see this behavior as intentional participation in a scam. The hotel insisted on being paid 100% after removing the smoking fee, even though their actions ruined the last two days of our trip. Romer "evidence" , "twice", of smoking and their "gift" to remove meant the full invoice was due. American Express explained any cost recovery would be between our family and Romer, robbing us of all leverage. No response from Romer to our telephone call. No suprises there. Part of me wants to battle the injustice, but I've learned we have systemic issues here in the states that render a normal consumer powerless. The only reasonable recourse we have are these reviews. And they don't hold that much power. The reviews can protect others. However, a colleague explained that corporations like Romer purchase a service that removes bad reviews from their sets of reviews. Dear Romer, I don't normally write bad reviews. I normally follow the logic of Thumper's mom, if one does not have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. However, the way your hotel treated my family is out of line and you not only did nothing, you doubled down. How ridiculous is it that a hotel would tolerate a manager who scheduled a meeting in the morning and fail to show for the entire day trapping a young family visiting from Sweden waiting not knowing. Romer succeeded in confirming my son's low opinion of business here in the states. Perhaps I should explain that my son laughed when he saw the letter on my bed accusing me of smoking and so did my spouse when we telephoned him. I was the only occupant of the room and freezing. I have been allergic to tar and the chemicals in all smoking products my entire life - vaping is worse. When my family was young, I was able to detect smoke on breath long after the experimenting event - because of that allergy - catching them without exception. My sons didn't end up with a smoking habit thanks to those allergies. The hotel staff below this management corporate behavior fiaso was wonderful. The staff was never loud or cross allowing us to all behave civily and kind. Very professional. If you can avoid the rooms where the hot water doesn't work and be prepared with an extra blanket, the location is great, you'll have a blast. I had a fly in my room the entire time. Housekeeping also does the bare minimum and I still see my hair in the shower from a day ago. The bag that carries the hair dryer was dusty. The tissue box had a clump of tissues sitting within instead of nicely pulled out. - Lack of amenities on site. Had the most lovely stay at the Romer hotel back in December. Everything from the concierge, to the decor, to the coffee shop, to the bathrooms, to the room itself, it was the most perfect boutique hotel for the holidays. They had a record player in the lobby with a menorah and huge beautiful Christmas tree. There was a fire place with comfy chairs that I could have spent the entire day reading in. The smell of the lobby was incredible, I could go on and on about how truly perfect this place was. We had a room with a King bed and it was very spacious for a New York City hotel. The bed was so comfortable, sheets were clean, the bathroom wasn't huge, but it was good enough. There was plenty of vanity space for getting ready. The coffee shop inside the hotel had delicious coffee, not the friendliest barista I will say that, he kept filling everyone's coffees up half way and I started the trend of speaking up and saying, Hey there could you fill it up some more? For $5 and change for a drip coffee, I'm going to need some more in there. Everyone behind me in line was having the same issue and asked for more too. Small hiccup. The check in and out process was seamless. The concierge desk held our bags for us even after check out while we explored the city for hours. Everyone was so incredibly kind and genuine, the entire experience here was truly one of a kind and I cannot wait to come back here again. We were seeing a show and this was a great location for that, only a few blocks away. We had dinner reservations by Bryant Park and it was a teeny bit of a walk but more than doable. Very good vibes for its value. Improvements: Need better set up for usb connections beside the beds. If you have 3 people or are staying longer, there is limited drawer space.y daughter and I had to keep all our clothes in our luggage. If you want to work in the room, the plugs maybe an issue, their desk really isn't made for working on if you need that. I really enjoyed my stay here! We booked a room with 2 queen beds and were on the top floor (11th) and it was a great view!! The location was awesome. Right around the corner from the subway. Good dining options nearby (the pizza spot, Roma's, across the street was awesome!). And it was basically a 1-2 minute walk to several broadway theaters including the August Wilson Theater. Everything from the lobby to the decor and furniture felt very classy and nice. It was sooo aesthetically pleasing everywhere. The staff was so nice too! The room was very clean. The beds and pillows were insanely comfy. All the light fixtures were perfect and the tv was great quality. Also loved that the bedside tables had outlets! Elevators were efficient. Literally the only thing I wasn't super fond of was the scent of the toiletries in the bathroom but that's such a minor thing. I will definitely keep this on my list as a hotel I'd like to return to! read more

I have to say that prior to this incident I really did enjoy this hotel. However, this put a complete damper on my last day. We are here currently and are being charged a smoking fee of $500 when in fact there was NO SMOKING or VAPING or use of any drugs used. During the time of the incident my cousin was blow drying her hair, and we believe that is what caused this. As soon as I got the email I rushed back to the hotel to speak with Steven in person. He repeated the same thing over "It's AI and it's been tested for accuracy" etc. etc. I started doing research, and found at least 50 other incidents of this having had occurred just a Romer Hells Kitchen, and tons more at other hotels across the country. The company that owns the device is called REST. There are tons of complaints against them. I am really upset that this happened not just to me, but is happening across the country as a revenue generator for hotels. Also Steven stated they would do a third party testing. Guess who will be doing the testing? The company that owns the machines...REST. If not for this I'd recommend this hotel. I did also have an issue where the AC was leaking and made the carpet wet. Engineering came in and had to make repairs to the vents and use a large machine to pickup the water from the carpet. I have stayed at Romer NYC many times and brought many friends with me, but never again. I had a medical procedure done 4 days before I was to arrive at Romers. The procedure didn't go well and I had to cancel the trip, per Dr I was unable to fly. I was traveling from the west coast to the east coast. I canceled the hotel the day of the procedure. Brandon Kaya, manager, said he needed a drs note. It was a holiday weekend and the Dr. didn't send it to me till after my check in date. I immediately sent it to Brandon and called. He said it's too late and no refund will be issued. I even said to give me a credit for my next stay. He said no, too bad. They have no compassion, I will not give them my business anymore! read more

We loved the lobby, which was warm and welcoming and always bustling with energy. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were really quite large for the city, and very clean. A warning as the AC wasn't working while we were there over memorial day weekend. And another note, there is a resort fee that is added to the stay - this is super common for hotels in big cities but it wasn't included in my overall hotels.com payment. I decided to stay here again as NYC hotels can be such hit or miss and it's a great location for the broadway shows -- sadly too close to Time Square but if that's your thing this is perfect. The beds and rooms were still comfortable (the thermostat never dims which is annoying) and the rooms are so big which is nice. The front desk was really accommodating and let us check in two hours early and was able to find us a room that wasn't an adjoining one. read more

Recently spent a few nights here with my wife. Great location, good sized room, friendly front desk. Those were the positives. We had an awkward experience with one of the bellmen that held our luggage for a few hours. When he brought us our luggage, he stood directly in between us without saying a word, and just stared. I assume he wanted a tip and I would've gave him one if he wasn't literally in our face. I usually tip hotel staff towards the end of my stay/when I check out. Not when I arrive. The second negative, even though the room was a good size, it was very outdated. Especially the bathroom. The shower tiles were cracked, caulking looked a bit rough, and the water pressure wasn't great. Overall decent stay, but I'd rather stay elsewhere when I'm back in the city. read more

My husband and I were here for the New York City Marathon weekend and we truly enjoyed our experience and time at Romer Hell's Kitchen. We booked for check-in on Friday Nov 1st and checked out on Monday, Nov 4th. The location was PERFECT for us as it was close to subway lines C and 1 train. It was about an hour away from JFK via Train / Subway so it was ideal place to be. The Run Center is a 10-15 min walk north, central park is close by as well. Lots of grocery stores, bodegas, coffee shops, bagel spots as well. The price was reasonable when we booked almost a year out (not sure how much it cost closer to the date of the event). On Friday, Nov 1st we arrived very early (9 AM) - however we could not check in early due to the rooms not being cleaned. They have a large front area with lots of seating, tables, chairs, a restaurant, coffee shop and restrooms. We left our bags at the front desk and made the most of the day. We went back to the hotel around 2 PM and the room was ready for us! The only thing was we asked for a double queen bed unit but they only had a King size bed, so they comped us the rollaway free of charge. The room itself was spacious for NYC sizes, good bathrooms, modern and there was an ice machine and water station on each floor. The housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable as well. There was a fridge in the room, no microwave. Overall, a great experience and I would come back again. In fact, we already pre-booked our hotel stay for our family trip in June 2025! I hope to come back here again and again! Thanks Romer! read more

This hotel ruined my honeymoon with their smoking SCAM. Shame on them for charging two people who don't smoke 500.00 (840) Canadian for something they didn't do. The location was amazing, however the room shouldn't have been rented due to faulty systems and a deep cleaning is seriously needed. If you google Romer Hotel Hells Kitchen, you will be quickly made aware of over 20 people complaining about the scam their running. Steven Lantigua and Chloe Finney (management) clearly do not care about the hotel's reputation and should be ashamed of themselves. They are not only rude and dismissive but also cowardly in their lack of responding to emails. They will hide in the side room next to the check in counter. I will gladly share my photos of the room including: mould in the shower, filthy windows offering a "city view" you can't even enjoy, garbage stashed behind night tables and general poor maintenance. All which is hidden by mid century modern decor to distract you. Please don't be fooled by this hotel, Hell's Kitchen is an amazing neighborhood, and shouldn't be represented by this hotel. read more

cute lil hotel off of 8th and 51. for our first trip to new york, this was the perfect location for everything we wanted to do! the rooms were nice and big. they gave us fresh towels every day and even set one out on the counter to catch the fallout powder from my makeup i appreciate the bag holding that they do for check in and check out. it allowed us to get extra stops off my itinerary. overall experience i would give it a 4.5/5 the doormen can feel a lil pushy in my opinion so it's the only thing keeping it from being a 5 star stay read more

A friend and I stayed at Romer a few weeks ago during a visit to NYC. The building is nice (attractive, modern lobby), and the service was great (we called down for some extra towels and pillows and they were very responsible and friendly and the front desk staff were lovely as well). Our room was very large (not one of those NYC hotel rooms where you can't even find a space for your bags) and nice. The location was great for us (the hotel is walking distance to all of the Broadway theaters and we had tickets for a few shows) - so close to so many subway options (B/D/E at 7 Av, 1/2 at 50 St, N/Q/R/W at 49 St, C/E at 50 St)! My only real complaints are that the elevator situation was (typical for NYC) not great - long waits for elevators (one elevator out of two was out of service when we stayed, so they were letting guests use the service elevator, too). Also, we were there in April, and it seemed like large groups of school students (maybe from abroad) were staying at the hotel on school trips. There were always tons of people in the lobby (waiting for their group to be gathered). They weren't a problem for us, but it was strange - teenagers everywhere! Overall, a good place to stay if you want to be near the Broadway theaters for evening shows so you can walk home after! read more

Was excited to stay here; it's a prime location & the photos of the rooms looked nice. Spoiler alert - the room I stayed in was quite different looking. The Pros: staff in the lobby who checked me in were very friendly & helpful. Spacious room. Bed was comfy, plenty of pillows. TV is huge. You get 2 complimentary water bottles. Sadly that's all the pros I have. The Cons: The website states valet is available; that's not accurate. There a $200 fee on top of nightly rates. No "do not disturb" sign to hang on my door. No Keurig or coffee pot in the room. Bathroom is dated, had unsightly stains on ceiling. Room had fully carpeted floors, which in 2024 is kind of shocking to see. Was on wifi but still got "SOS" on my phone & calls dropped. Could easily hear guests' tv next door. But the worst part of my stay was the man (I'm assuming was maintenance staff) who knocked on my door at 8:30pm last night, asking for a walkie radio he thought was left in my room (it wasn't) then AGAIN he knocked on my door at 9:30 the next morning, asking about something missing from the toilet in the bathroom. What?!? I couldn't fully understand what he was saying, but said housekeeping sent him to check on something missing from the bathroom; I was so confused. I told him I checked in last night, I didn't call for anything, and nothing was missing. I wasn't letting him into my room. After he left I called the front desk & they apologized (again, they were very nice) but I was still freaked out. In all my years traveling & staying at hotels, that has never happened to me. Where a strange man with no identifiable uniform knocked on my door TWICE in 13 hrs making odd requests. Super sketchy. Guests want to be left alone when they're at a hotel. This ruined my stay. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel and would not stay here again, not for $1,000 for 2 nights. read more

Stayed here for a staff retreat and overall had a good experience. Lyft from JFK there was approximately $85 and 45 minutes and great location close to Times Square. Check in was quick and easy. Room was decorated nicely and clean, with decent views. Felt safe, staff wee pleasant, and would recommend and stay here again and in other areas. read more

Girls trip 2024. Perfect hotel. Walking distance to so many iconic places. Close to the subway nearby restaurants if you get hangry. From the moment you walk into the hotel you are greeted and pampered. Our rooms were exceptionally clean. The bedding was perfect with multiple choices of pillows. The shower pressure was great. We had a nice view of the street below, but never heard a car horn or ambulance. Shout out to Eugene for holding our bags while we grab lunch at Carnegie deli and having Transfer to LaGuardia ready when we got back. Girls trip 2025 might be at the Romer again. read more

This used to be the old Hampton Inn in Hells Kitchen! The location is priceless, the new decor is impeccable, classy modern and chic. Has an Art Deco vibe to it! I would have given a perfect 5 stars, except the rooms don't have any desk to do business work! They no longer have even a small gym. They give you a pass to Crunch 2 blocks away which isn't ideal. Have you tried walking couple of blocks in cold sweat? Please bring back the small gym! Also the breakfast before had such amazing options. The cafe now has limited options and it's a la cart. We really need a desk in the rooms to do our work. And at least bring back a small gym. read more

Recently stayed in the City for a couple nights and made the mistake of choosing this hotel. From the moment we checked in, there were problems. We arrived and check-in wasn't available because their system was down. We were told we could leave our bags and check-in later in the day manually. When we returned, we were checked in and my friend and I--who booked together--were on separate floors. Not terrible, but not convenient either. When the doorman (I presume, though I'm not certain since he was wearing a dirty tshirt and jeans) went to collect our bags (in the next room over), it was late and he was nasty when we didn't immediately tip him for carrying a laptop bag and a suitcase on wheels. The bags were literally kept in an unsecured hallway behind a door. He sarcastically went on thanking us for our generosity. He literally did the bare minimum and my friend and I typically tip at the end of our stay. It was rude and unprofessional to say the least. There are two guest elevators and when we arrived one was working. By the time we left, none of the guest elevators were working and we were told to use the stairs or if needed we could use the staff lift. I asked for a do not disturb sign, and was told someone would bring it up to my room. It never was delivered so the next morning I asked the maid if she had one and she took it from the room next to me. She was the nicest person I encountered at the hotel. When we checked out, I was told my card on file wouldn't be charged since my friend and I had prepaid and the card was only for incidentals during the stay, if any. I asked for the checkout documents sent to me by email and never received them, but I did find an unexpected $98 charge on my account the next day. I had to call multiple times to even discover what the charge was for--and was eventually told it was an "urban tax" whatever that is. When I asked what the urban tax covered, it was apparently a charge for wifi (!), and use of the gym down the road and/or bike rental. I didn't use any of these "amenities" and question whether it wasn't just a charge they were hoping people wouldn't notice. I 100% would not recommend staying here, even if it is convenient for theatre plans. read more

Great neighborhood hotel! We stayed here for a few nights to celebrate our anniversary. First of all, the hotel is CLEAN. And there's an apartment/neighborhood feeling to it. It's walking distance to the subway, to the shows and to great restaurants such as Carnegie Deli and Pick a Bagel. The staff was friendly and the beds were soooo comfortable! The hotel is beautifully decorated. Our deluxe king room was huge and had a couch! The bed was super comfy. The bathroom was beautiful black and white tile with a big walk in shower. Everything was very, very clean. One block from a subway station. Tons of shops and restaurants nearby. The one small thing...I love my coffee or tea in my pjs in the room. No in room coffee/tea. :-( Had to go down to their cafe off the lobby to get coffee or tea. Other than that would highly, highly recommend. read more
