My husband and I were here for two nights for the United NYC Half Marathon and we had a wonderful experience. The lobby area is very clean, the door people were wonderful and the accommodations were perfect. Our room was the King Bed and it suited our needs perfectly. Very modern and the bathroom was a perfect size. There is no microwave or no fridge, but not a big deal. They had water bottles for us in the rooms and there is also water downstairs in the lobby. The housekeeping staff were great about cleaning our rooms and the bed was comfortable. Our room was quiet at night, i couldn't hear anything! The location is pretty close to all subways and walkable to Times Square and Broadway shows. What I appreciated was their attention to detail, they had a post-half marathon snack bar for us (oranges, apples, bananas, cereals, bars and water). Thank you for that! I would highly recommend this hotel for people coming to NYC and i would stay here again! Thank you! read more

3.5 stars rounded up to a 4. After a recent stay of one week at the Ameritania, I can say we would stay here again. That is, as long as we could get a room just like the one we had on this stay. The room had been remodeled within the past few years and was appealing, though there were some signs of wear and tear. Space was spacious, especially in the closet and bathroom. On our first night we did have an issue with the A/C not kicking in, but when we reported the problem at the front desk, it was fixed within a half hour. The A/C worked fine for the rest of the stay. Speaking of the front desk, the people there were always cordial and accommodating. Housekeeping was fairly good, though the housekeepers were a bit sloppy about replenishing the room with cups and vacuuming. Also, to operate the elevator you have to insert your hotel key card into a slot next to the floor buttons in the elevator. My card which always worked in the room never worked in the elevator. At least there was never a long wait for an elevator. There's no coffee in the room, but they always had fresh coffee available in the lobby every morning. I would have to say the design and colors of the lobby are quirky, but that didn't matter to us at all. But probably the best selling point of the Ameritania is its awesome location at the corner of W. 54th and Broadway. So close to everyplace you want to go to, and near key subway stops. read more

If you want a hotel that has bed bugs come here. This hotel is bed bug infested and they don't care. They will say they'll refund you a night and move you to another infested room. Manager is no where to be found and they can't contact him since he's "out for the day." No thank you. Additionally, don't fall for the google reviews. I like the convenience of the property. It's close to the subway and other forms of transportation. If you arrive early before check in they do have a bag service to hold onto your bags and also at check out if you want to explore the city. The gym is located in the basement, and it is well maintained. They do have water bottles for the guests and some towels. You can only access the gym using the third elevator on your right closest to the bar. The room I had was RM 404 and surprisingly it was quiet. You can hear some sirens in the distance but not enough to disturb your sleep. The thing about the room I have however, can be a bit dim and also the door which you access with a card key, was loose. I had to stand there to make sure I hear a "click" to know that my room was locked. Overall, I did have a great experience at this hotel being my first time in the city. read more

We usually stay on the Upper West Side, but recently had a great two-night stay at the Ameritania. The staff was wonderful--they answered questions and gave great advice about the neighborhood. The only positives about this hotel are the location, which is very close to Times Square, and the one staff member who helped us move rooms in the middle of the night due to a maintenance emergency. He was professional and helpful during a very stressful situation. Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was disappointing. Our key cards stopped working four times over the course of our 7-day stay, requiring multiple trips to the front desk. On the day they were changing the door locks, we left our room at 8am and returned at 4pm to find our hotel room door wide open with our belongings inside and the lock still not changed. This was very concerning from a safety standpoint. After returning, we were unable to rest because maintenance then began changing the lock while we were in the room, drilling with the door open while we were trying to relax. The worst issue occurred at 2:30am when the AC unit began leaking heavily. This was not a minor leak--water was actively running out, soaking the carpet and some of our belongings, and causing a strong smell in the room. We had to pack everything and move rooms in the middle of the night. The first replacement room did not have working AC, so we had to move again and were not settled into a proper room until around 4am. Aside from the one helpful staff member, management and concierge never followed up. The only compensation offered was waiving the resort fee. The rooms are also very outdated, and even the bathroom doors do not lock. When visiting NYC, you spend long days out and expect your hotel to be a comfortable place to return to. Unfortunately, this hotel added unnecessary stress to our trip. I would not stay here again. read more

This was my first stay here, and I would definitely come back, again! I was 3 hours early but was given a queen room within minutes, easily. The staff is all very friendly and attentive. The red, black, white modern color scheme is attractive. My room was spacious, by NYC standards. A nice big shower area and comfortable bed. "Affordable hotel really close to south end of Central Park" Got a good deal on this place using Hotels.COM for a quick trip-- just over $200 for a Monday night with all taxes/ fees. I was going to a show a bit further north but was advised to stay in this area instead, and found this hotel a good balance between positive reviews and moderate (for Manhattan) price. Check-in was fast, easy, and friendly. I had a little trouble with my room key because apparently they had coded them upside-down relative to the arrows, but once I learned, all got sorted. The room was small-- queen size bed with end tables but really almost no other space in the room, and a tiny bathroom. But I wasn't in New York to spend hours (awake) in my room, so this was just fine. Four big pillows on the bed, and all amenities needed in the restroom (soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.) The room and halls were clean-- not new but clearly well maintained. My room was also right by the elevator, but the noise wasn't bothersome. Big window with good light-blocking shade was a plus, though the view to the interior area was unimpressive. Again, didn't care. Again, don't expect luxury, but it's a fine place to be able to spend the night at an affordable (for Manhattan) price, and the area has so many things to do/ eat/ see nearby. I will start out by saying that i was surprised how nice this spot was. Never heard of it before and was taking a shot in the dark. Upon entering , you're greeted by a modern, cool, chic decor. They have a bar & a fire place. The staff were ALL amazing & helpful. The room was a bit small but for NYC, it was great. The cleanliness of the hotel and the room was great. The Ameritania Hotel is a below average hotel for NYC. And a below average hotel for its price range. I stayed 4 nights and will not stay again. So many things wrong. On the night of day 1, the room heater did not work. The next morning, I informed the front desk. Engineering concluded that the valve was shut off preventing the heater from operating as it should. For 2 days, shower water was lukewarm only. On day three, there was hot water. No explanation. TV reception/connection was so poor that the screen constantly flickered. It was difficult to watch Sunday football. The worst was the attitude of the front desk manager at 230P on Sun Nov 23. I was watching football in my room, when the cleaning woman knocked on my door. I opened the door and told her to come in and clean up while I watch football. She said she could NOT enter the room when a customer was in the room at the same time. I said the cleaning woman yesterday spent all of 15 min cleaning my room while I was on the phone. She told me to call the Manager. On calling the Manager. He told me that no personnel can be in the room at the same time as the customer. Even with the permission of the customer. I told the Manager what happened the day before. He told me that it could not be true. "Because in NYC, it is a city ordinance that cleaning persons CANNOT be in the room when the customer is in the room. Even with the permission of the customer." Per the Manager, the ordinance applies to EVERY hotel in NYC. He proceeded to give me two options. Leave the room for an hour so that the cleaning person can do her job with me absent for an hour. Or forgo my room cleaning that day. I couldn't believe my ears. Because I wanted to continue watching the football game. My room did not get cleaned that day! Unbelievable customer service. ZERO stars! Ameritania is a dump!! The photos are deceiving!! 1) Staff gave me a key to someone else's room! The guest inside yelled at me for trying to open his door! 2) My room's toilet water was red with muddy stains! 3) The room is very old, run-down, and dirty. 4) My room door was jammed. I couldn't shut it or lock it without using all my force. 5.) Carpets are stained and smelly. 5) Overall old, dumpy, and unkept. I wouldn't stay here even if someone offered it to me for free. The hotel location is amazing but what stood out even more was the front desk staff. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful! Majid checked us in and also checked us out. He was so friendly, accommodating, and anticipated our needs before we voiced them. There was usually someone at the front door holding it open for us. The hotel was not loud and the walls are well insulated. The bathroom was updated, shower was great, the toiletries were lovely and if we needed anything we just asked and it was delivered! The bed was comfy and the room had a bunch of outlets for charging! There was a small mini fridge so we could store our drinks and other items. So nice! When we got there, we had a welcome bag with a candy bar, waters, and lovely note. Thank you!! What service! What a great hotel, location, and staff! FYI: We stayed here for 4 nights in November 2023. $1484 total for 4 nights (including all taxes and fees). Not sure how good of a deal, but here it is for your reference. read more

Upon arriving, I looked for a way in the building with a ramp because we had lots of luggage. There was no such entrance, so not very wheelchair accessible, if that matters. Arrived very early in the morning off a redeye from Honolulu, so of course our room was not ready yet. Bell took our bags and stored them while we left for breakfast. Came back around noon and checked if our room was available. Being that it was pretty chilly with a storm coming in, we decided to sit in the lounge to wait. The lady at the front desk knew we were waiting, yet when she left around 2pm, I went up and the man that was there told me my room was ready. I thought that was a bit rude considering I saw her pass by us a few times. I was placed on the 2nd floor overlooking Broadway. It was convenient to walk down one flight of stairs for a quick exit. From photos, it looked like a recent renovation was done, but after visiting, it actually must've been some time ago. Still pretty clean, but no counter space in the bathroom and I didn't like that there was no curtain in the shower. It was challenging to keep the floor of the bathroom dry because water from the shower would splatter out since there was such a large opening for the shower water to splatter out. I would stay here again for the price I paid, which was lower than what I saw elsewhere, but I was hoping to experience better. read more

We stayed a night in this hotel upon first arriving to NY. It's a great location within very short walking distance to Gershwin Theater (where we saw Wicked) and Times Square, and not a far walk to Central Park either. We arrived prior to check in, but the hotel was able to hold our bags for us and let us pre check in so it was quick and easy when we returned later in the day. The room itself was a good size, clean, nice bathroom and shower, and comfy bed and pillows. The price was reasonable enough considering the great location and being in the city. Overall, this was a great spot to stay in NYC and I'd definitely stay here again. read more

What can I say about this Hotel? The staff was more than just welcoming, they were like family after 4 days stay. Anything we needed, from extra towels to buckets of ice, it was brought fairly hastily. I dropped my wallet somewhere on 56th and the doorman went out of his way to ensure I got it back when it was surprisingly returned. Bless him. The staff wasn't bothered by me going in and out fairly late. This is the city that never sleeps after all! Definitely get your monies worth when you stay here. Renting a car? I spent a week here recently and I can't say enough positive things about Ameritania. The staff was awesome despite us not getting in until like 1:30am! The location could not have been better. I rented two rooms as I was with my daughter and her girlfriend, and we always felt very safe in the neighborhood and walked everywhere. So close to the subway, Times Square, Theaters and Central Park it was ridiculous. Now to keep it real, It is an older hotel and yes, the rooms are Manhattan small but know where you are going and know the market for the price, this about as good a deal as you will get in NYC. Seeing the specials available only on the hotel website, I booked- and was directed to a confirmation page for a booking I did not make AND FOR THAT DAY! Assuming it was a simple glitch, I contacted the hotel and after nearly half an hour on the phone with an aggressively unhelpful representative named Saurabh was told to call the hotel (as I had done). When I asked for clarification, he said to try a different extension then reservations- so bonkers- then CHARGED $181 FOR THE BOGUS ROOM TO MY CARD. The website also said you can email the hotel if you have any issues with a reservation, so I did, and providing detailed information and screenshots of my reservation versus the incorrect charges. That was six days ago, but they never responded. Really disappointed given the positive trend of reviews here, which is so different than my experience. read more

We are in room 715, and there is literally a comedy club below us raging at 10:20pm on a Monday night. My wife has a work meeting in the morning, and sleeping is impossible. They gave us some earplugs. Better idea: How about the hotel management negotiates a freaking comedy club doesn't go until after 10pm on a Monday night right below their guests' rooms? It's literally a window-shaking club on an adjoining roof, and no way the speaker setup is legal with NYC noise ordinance laws. read more

If Texas' motto is Everything is bigger in Texas, then New Yorks is everything's smaller and more expensive. These are tiny tiny rooms for their price points. That's not where it ends. There is next to no amenities. There is no 24/7 coffee. No pool. No complimentary breakfast. You will get stuck in the fitness room. The only way to the fitness room is by elevator and I was trapped for 15 minutes because the elevator was not coming down. The charge 75$ for a 4 mile ride back to the airport. There are no outlets near the bed or desk unless you crawl under the bed. You will also be charged 70$ for drinking the bottles of water the provide in your room. Terrible place to stay. read more

Location is perfect, front desk staff is great, the room is super comfortable (huge comfy beds), rain shower head... I booked a queen room but I swear the bed was king size! I've stayed at a 4star hotel in NYC previously and this room is absolutely comparable. I had to book this place last minute on Priceline, and although Priceline gave me a deal that wasn't available at this hotel the front desk was super sweet and helpful and found me a room anyways. I only planned to stay here one night but it was so comfortable that I stayed for two more nights (total of 3). Fresh towels everyday! The location is amazing, right next to Times Square, Late Night w Colbert, many coffee shops, etc. There's a fun bar right down the street called Faces and Names with delicious cheesecake. First thing you should know about NYC hotels is that the upkeep is not what it is in the rest of the country. I will say that this one needs new carpet, grout, and cosmetic facelifts. You can't tell from the photos but this is now why I am leaving 3 stars since this is always my experience in NY. The room while small, was still comfortable. Our room had a king bed that pretty much was the room. Our issue was that we had an air conditioner that never shut off but also didn't cool the room. This noise along with the fan in the bathroom that came on with the light were both very loud. Our room was in the corner which helped with outdoor noise but for $350 a night this just wasn't a step up from what you can get for $200 down the street. Overall the lobby was large and great and the staff was helpful but we won't do this one again. There are better options across the street. read more

Absolutely terrible. The cleaning lady tried to walk in my room when I had no clothes on. Her excuse was that she knocked and I didn't answer. Apparently the front desk/shift Manager, Janeth, expects me to be able to hear a very light knocking when I'm in the shower. No one asked her to do service and while the front desk is saying it was not OK for her to do that They're also not empathetic, not taking accountability or taking it as serious as I am. instead there was attitude and I felt like I was inconveniencing them by Complaining. I feel completely violated. She tried walking in my room without permission, and I had to stand in the doorway with no clothes on to not allow her to enter my room, again very violating, and they did not seem to care at all. So unless you like having the Cleaning lady violate you and the front desk manager not taking it serious then I recommend you choose ANY other of the hundreds of hotels in the city cause this one's not it!!! (I also asked who they report to that overseas that they're handling things correctly and she said they don't report anyone but the main hotel manager Manny - is there no state or city agency that regulates behaviors such as this? This hotel is FRAUDULENT and gross! The floors are carpeted and filthy. The room gave me the icky. I booked a room back in Feb 2023, and they purposely charged my card twice. When I contacted their customer service, I was sent to different departments, and then was told they only charged me once. I contacted my cc company and reported/disputed the issue extra charge of $1100. My cc company did an investigation and said the hotel denied the dispute and charged me. Not only are they FRAUDULENT, but the hotel itself is awful. You can literally hear conversations from the hall way, nextdoor and upstairs. The windows facing the streets are not sound proof, nor are the walls. I could barely get a good night's rest. They left such a sour taste in my mouth. read more

At the right price it's a four star stay, due to friendly staff and cleanliness, otherwise a three star due to lesser amenities although they do have a gym. If you're not from a big city, not a suburb of the city, stay above the ninth floor. It will be quieter and the bright signs will be less intrusive. If you want the whole touristy stay, stay fifth floor or lower. If you're a tourist and you have leftover money on your subway card, leave it in addition to your tip for housekeeping. They use the subway to get to work, they don't live "in the neighborhood" walking distance generally. read more

For a hotel right off Times Square the price was decent, considering we didn't have to take a taxi to get to the shows, restaurants and Central Park. It was very clean. We stayed on the 9th floor and it was pretty quiet. There's coffee and fruit in the lobby in the mornings. Free water bottles in room. Staff is very helpful.
