***4.5 STARS***…read more Recently a colleague reached out to me as his designated driver was unable to pick him up due to an unforeseen situation. He texted me needing a lift from Pali Momi Medical Center (PMMC) to his home just off Kinau Street. PMMC opened its doors in July 1989 and has been servicing Central and West Oahu. It was originally opened as Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi until rebranded as PMMC in 2010. They are conveniently located in Aiea just down the road from Pearlridge Shopping Center. It was my first time here and was impressed with the upkeep of the grounds. Because my friend just had a procedure to the day prior, a hospital staff wheeled him via wheelchair to the pickup/drop off area. I was amazed by the hotel's attention to patient's condition, consideration and service extended. Although the pickup was a fairly quick process, the setback I encountered was leaving. There were 2 parked cars in front of me and it didn't seem the cars would be leaving soon. Furthermore, the right hand lane was too narrow where I couldn't pass them. My only option was to back up and exit via the far left lane. Thank goodness there was no car behind me otherwise I would have been in a standstill. Overall, impressed with my first visit to PMMC, with the exception of their pickup and drop off area. 2026 #60

He was responsive and very caring. My son felt safe with him. The night nurse, Cliff, was also very good too! Case managers, Beth and Tainika, kept our family up-to-date with our son's status. My son still has a slight yellow tinge to his skin, but he is stable and getting stronger thanks to the great care provided by the wonderful Pali Momi staff of doctors and nurses! Mahalo!

However, I am rating my "experienceʻ which includes him, his staff, and the customer service I received. He did a thorough exam and asked me a LOT of questions about my condition. He ordered appropriate imaging. His office staff are pleasant, but not efficient. The phones go to VM from about noon on and you cannot leave a message - you have to keep calling and calling. He has a patient portal, but one of his staff said they donʻt look at it. There wasnʻt anything definitive shown on the imaging and Dr. S didnʻt offer much advice except donʻt bend backward and donʻt pick up anything heavy; I already knew this. I had to request physical therapy - he seemed reluctant and said most patients donʻt do the PT at home. Well, I always do. So, he told the staff to send a prescription for PT to my PT clinic. Later, the PT staff requested an additional Rx from Dr. S so they could help me with balance issues. After 3 faxed requests from the PT clinic, and numerous phone calls from me, we both gave up after 2 weeks and I asked my PCP for the additional Rx...which she did that day. At one point during the 3 attempts to get that additional Rx, the staff told me the PT request was "on his desk." That was 8 days after the PT clinic had sent it, and the second request. I had a post-PT appt. with Dr. S. I mentioned the difficulty in contacting his office and the problem with the PT prescription. His answer was that he is short-staffed. Maybe he should spend some time rectifying that - his business would be so much better. A competent, caring doctor stuck in an incompetent, non-caring environment. Usually itʻs the other way around.

Dr. Shimamoto has very good bedside manner and is as local as doctors can get. Very soft spoken and listens to your every concern. If you have issues he'll explain to you what may be causing the issue in layman's terms. Location is a bit clunky and the parking is a bit hefty ($1.50 every 30 minutes with validation) but he's worth visiting. He's part of a group called Neurology Associates but my PCP recommended him in particular. Now I see why. Just a heads up - they charge 5% extra for credit card payment, so if you're on a flex plan and you want to use your flex plan card you will have to wait to be billed, but that's just a minor inconvenience. If you're looking for someone who will treat you with care and attention, go to this doctor for your neurology needs.

This was after 2 1/2 years of multiple types of therapies that didn't give me long term relief. The 1st injection worked well and seven weeks later I had a 2nd injection, as previously discussed, as part of my treatment plan. After the second procedure I have had great results. I highly recommend Dr Carlson and his wonderful support team at Hawaii Pain & Spine. I will gladly return for help with any other pain issues and I've already recommended this location to others.

Dr. Carlson truly listens. He takes the time to understand the whole picture and then creates a treatment plan that is thoughtful, solution-oriented, and tailored to the individual. Over the course of my care, I received steroid injections and PRP, and after a 10-month ordeal, I finally feel like I got my life back. Appointments can sometimes run a little long -- but that's because Dr. Carlson takes his time with his patients. I never feel rushed, dismissed, or talked over. It is absolutely worth the wait. If you are dealing with chronic pain and want a physician who is skilled, compassionate, and genuinely invested in outcomes, I highly recommend Dr. Carlson and this practice.

I've been seeing Dr. Ridge for quite a few years now for migraines--she is very attentive, caring,…read moreand thorough with my exams, and has helped me decrease migraine frequency. My complaints are with the reception staff! I endured the constant rescheduling of my appointments in the past (they would ask if I could reschedule even for things like someone needed to pick up their kid). At first I was ok, but when 80% of my appointments get pushed back or rescheduled, there IS a problem! Then this current incident--back in November or December, I got a call notifying me that Dr. Ridge was reducing her days, so I would have to reschedule my next appointment. I said no problem...then he said they didn't have anything available, so they'd put me on a waiting list. So now it's end of January--I called a week ago (apparently they forgot about me), and was told the next available was in APRIL. Well I was out of prescription refills, so that girl told me they'd call it in. I called again today, and this girl told me that since Dr. hadn't seen me in over a year, they couldn't refill. The previous girl was new, so she shouldn't have told me they could refill. I told her well it was THEIR mistake that they hadn't called me--I had been waiting for an appointment!! I had to call THEM and now they only have APRIL, which is three months away?? Did she have a sooner appointment? She said wait, I'll explain it to you. NO--there is no explaining--YOU guys made the mistake, if it wasn't for that, I could have seen doctor sooner! UGH!! I don't appreciate her trying to turn it around and blame it on me. No apologies, just making it like I didn't understand. I still think the doctor is amazing, just wish her front staff was more efficient and caring.

They did call and don't state the name of their DR office name so you're on the phone questioning and then they say Your DR___ referred you to us. The bad is the receptionist: When they call to remind you the appt, they don't leave voicemails. They call and don't confirm who they are calling from just say we are confirming your appt for whatever day... My opinion that's the worst customer call I have ever received. So I was already iffy before coming in. Had to ask them on the phone where are you located and she just gave me an address and that was it. I googled it When I came in here, it's a tiny clinic and they have many rules. I did realize it was only the front desk who seemed as if they were always annoyed with people. Dr Ridge is very sweet and funny. She sent me to an MRI and my results were normal but she told me "That's rare, it's normal" and I gave her this look umm what? It's rare to be normal? Apparently many patients who get MRI on their brains and neck actually have issues shown. So in result I have a large medical bill but I'm ok... We're back to why do I get migraines hmmm.... She's prescribed me multiple meds to trial and error with. Also has told me to take many other vitamins to assist with the migraines from showing. With blood work, I'm not surprised that my PALE skin is lacking on vitamin D (lack of sun) haha but Dr Ridge explained that you could be in the sun all day as a farmer and still be deficient. It's all in your genetics.
